Once they're cleaned up she sings Following The Drum to him, and he's quickly asleep.** (Molly) **He dreams he is at Die Dauerhaftigkeit, and he is waiting for Molly to return from her summer sailing in memory of Sebastian. He is sat on the steps, Ehren and Madchen being kept inside. A letter sent from port and brought by a courier riding day and night anticipated her arrival this afternoon. (Molly) He needs to speak to her alone, because this is too much for him to continue bearing. It's not right for her to leave them all, and it's not fair for him to go months alone because of her love for bloody Sebastian. He knew she'd been married, he just didn't know that he was always only going to be an afterthought, the father of her children, yes, but still only the second husband, a necessity more than a desire. (Molly) These last few weeks he has come to see that he deserves more than that, and that no matter how loving or how lenient he is, he is never going to be the man she truly wants. He is never going to be Sebastian, and he is never going to have her love as Sebastian did. He cannot live up to a man who never ages or falters or disappoints her. A man who will always remain perfect and unflawed in her memories. (Molly) He also has to confess something. He met Dietlinde, a pretty, gentle woman tending her ailing parents, and without any other man in her heart. It was his parents' idea at first, but he had enjoyed her company and attention, so sought her out time and time again. She valued and admired him, and was always eager to see him. This summer has been one of laughter and emotional openness, and he had ended up kissing her. (Molly) He had not bedded her. But he did want to, and he intended to tell Molly that, to give her a final chance to put this right and actually move on from her first husband and set him aside properly. It's against his nature to be unfaithful so he will give her the choice and let her know the consequences. (Molly) But if Molly cannot get over Sebastian, then why should he not also be in love with someone else? Why shouldn't Molly be made to feel the abandonment and sense of being less valued by her spouse in comparison? Perhaps she would at least have some damned empathy for him then. (Molly) From his pocket, he takes out a leather thong and then threads it through his removed wedding ring. If Molly was going to continue to wear her old wedding ring to remember a man she had lost, perhaps he would wear his the same way, a mark of how Molly is and realistically always has been a love that he has lost. (Molly) It slips from his grip, making a tinkling noise as it bounces down the steps and then rolls down the lawn and into the Sudlache. The sound of carriage wheels is what triggers him to awaken into the dark room. * Morgan mutters a moment, before trying to get an idea of the time (Molly) **its around five thirty. Molly is asleep quite far from him** * Morgan sighs, climbing out of bed to get dressed (Molly) **Everything is peaceful. She doesn't stir* ** You're now known as HH * Morgan goes to get coffee * HH is sat at Morgan's kitchen table, map and paper in front of him, coffee already made (HH) Mornin' * Morgan grunts, sipping his coffee * HH shrugs (HH) Alright? (Morgan) Aye, you? * HH noda (HH) Jus' wanna get going, get it done and be back home again (Morgan) home... (HH) To Inga * Morgan nods * HH slides the plan to him (HH) I think I 'ave this as optimised as I can get it * Morgan nods, looking it over (HH) **3 days sailing to Londinium, 1 to Greenwich, 2 to Farnham, 3 to Londinium, 1 to sail up the coast, 2 to ride to Ilchester and back to the port, 1 sail, 2 to Thirlow and back to port, 6 days back. (HH) All assumin' we have to go everywhere (HH) **This would have them back on October 31st, 21 days after leaving** * Morgan sighs (Morgan) Comprehensive (HH) Might have to deviate from it, depending on the information we get from the places we visit, but if we have a plan in place we can recalculate if we need to as we go * Morgan nods (Morgan) indeed (HH) Maybe we'll get lucky (Morgan) We can hope I suppose * HH nods (HH) Be back for your birthday * Morgan nods (Morgan) that'd be nice (HH) Might have mine when we get back, instead of Tuesday (Morgan) Want me to throw you a party? * HH grins (HH) Maybe we'll have some drinks somewhere * Morgan nods (Morgan) alright (HH) Should be in Londinium or Greenwich, bound t' be somewhere to drink * Morgan nods (Morgan) Mostly Avalon ale, mind... (HH) Load up on blokners 'fore we go out, it'll be fine * Morgan nods (HH) Told Inga it'd be somewhere between two and four weeks we'd be gone, she won't be surprised (Morgan) Longer than I'd like * HH nods (HH) Not ideal, but we'll be alright without them a few weeks * Morgan nods (Morgan) I hope so (HH) Well, I'll be alright *he grins* * Morgan nods (HH) An' Claudia will be alright. Jus' you really * Morgan nods (Morgan) as usual * HH nods (HH) She writing you some letters incase you have a bad spell, like when you were in Zweibrucke? * Morgan nods (Morgan) I hope it doesn't, but best to be prepared * HH nods (HH) Need you at yer best * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye (HH) Got her appointment to get the citizenship sorted in a bit haven't you? * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye. I expect that to be difficult for her * HH nods (HH) Rest of us stayin' here for watching Varick and guard training? * Morgan nods * HH nods (HH) Expect you might be gone all day? (Morgan) I wouldn't be surprised * HH nods (HH) Think she'll be upset then? * Morgan nods (Morgan) I sus[ect so, aye * HH nods (HH) Going out for dawn? * Morgan nods (HH) I'm going to make sure Inga's awake and ready for the day **he grins** * Morgan nods (Morgan) alright then * HH folds up the map, putting the plan on top of it (HH) See you in a bit then * Morgan nods, topping up his coffee ** You are now disconnected (Software caused connection abort) ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Thursday, 9 September 2021 15:24:53 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** Reconnecting to 192.168.1.82:6667… ** You have joined #7thsea (HH) **HH goes, leaving Morgan free to take his coffee outside. (Claudia) Just a nightmare. I'm alright (Morgan) Wanna talk about it? * Claudia shakes her head (Claudia) Nope. Not pleasant, but it's in the past and it doesn't matter now * Morgan nods (Morgan) alright. I'll listen if you change your mind * Claudia nods (Claudia) I know. How about you? * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) Wasn't a nice dream, but I wouldn't call it a nightmare exactly (Claudia) Better than mine. What happened? (Morgan) All very strange. I was Molly's second husband, she disappeared off every year to sail the routes her dead husband took... * Claudia shrugs (Claudia) You didn't like that? (Morgan) I was definitely second best, lets put it that way (Claudia) Sounds like something you'd hate (Morgan) I did (Claudia) Having issues over her and John Dagget? (Morgan) I don't think so... though I have told her she needs to be careful with him (Claudia) Why? (Morgan) He's extremely vulnerable and I suspect likely to find comfort in her caring and take it a step too far... he'll feel awful about it, so I'd rather just avoid it entirely (Claudia) You think he might hurt her? (Morgan) No, not at all (Claudia) Just that he's going to get attached? * Morgan nods (Claudia) That worse because he loved her before? (Morgan) That'd make sense (Claudia) Best keep them apart then? (Morgan) I've advised her such (Claudia) Think she'll stick to it if Dagget starts asking for her or visiting? * Morgan nods (Morgan) or she'll take a chaperone (Claudia) Gotta say, that seems a but insulting. You trust her, right? (Morgan) of course (Claudia) You dont trust him not to...? (Morgan) I suspect he'll try to kiss her if she's around to help him too much (Claudia) That what happened with you? * Morgan shakes his head (Morgan) No (Claudia) What has you so worried about it? (Morgan) I just don't want her upset, and I'd rather avoid him feeling like he's betrayed his wife, and Molly's trust. * Claudia nods (Claudia) She can defend herself if she needs to (Morgan) I'm not worried about her safety * Claudia nods (Claudia) Just that they'll be upset * Morgan nods (Claudia) Reckon that's what your weird dream was about? * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) its conceivable (Claudia) Unless you're worried there's someone else? * Morgan shakes his head * Claudia nods, watching the sun come up (Claudia) Looking a bit red this morning. You brooding about it, or not? (Morgan) _it_? (Claudia) The dream (Morgan) oh... no, I don't think so (Claudia) Something else then? (Morgan) Not looking forward to being away... fed up of waiting to get on the move * Claudia nods (Claudia) Can't just pack up and go today? (Morgan) No, I suspect Molly is going to need support today. (Claudia) Oh the citizenship thing. She has Inga and family nearby (Morgan) She needs me here today. * Claudia shrugs (Claudia) What about tonight? If we start the journey before dark, we're not breaking any superstitions, and could get in two extra days sailing in (Morgan) I'll speak to her about it * Claudia nods (Claudia) It would get us underway sooner (Morgan) aye (Morgan) I think perhaps we are being relied upon for dancing... (Claudia) Dancing. *she looks at him seriously* Dancing rather than bringing a rapist to painful justice. (Morgan) Giving a girl who likely will die in childbirth one of her dreams... (Claudia) Must be other men who can join them instead? (Morgan) I'll see * Claudia nods (Claudia) Three more days of waiting isnt going to be good for anyone (Morgan) we're looking at three weeks * Claudia nods (Claudia) Alright * Claudia gives another few slides of the stone over the metal. The sun is risen but the grey clouds are heavy (Claudia) Best get back * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye, come on * Claudia gets off the wall, heading to the big cottage * Morgan walks along beside her ** You're now known as Molly * Molly is putting on her cloak when he gets there. Everyone else is having breakfast. She gives him a brief smile. (Molly) What thinks you, my love? Inga suggested taking a carriage to Tawstock, just incase the weather is very bad. (Morgan) probably a good idea (Molly) Shall I see to that whilst you eat? (Morgan) please * Molly kisses his cheek "I won't be gone long, then I will come back for you" * Morgan nods, settling down to eat * Molly goes. She's back again not long after breakfast, and he has to set Varick off his lap to get up. They all assure him that they will be fine without him and Molly, so the two of them are soon in the carriage and under way, the sky even greyer ** You are now disconnected ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Friday, 10 September 2021 21:41:56 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** You have joined #7thsea (Molly) **Molly watches as the rain comes down not long after they leave, sitting opposite him** (Molly) Inga was correct about the coach * Morgan nods (Morgan) I'm not bothered by the rain, but... even I think this is a bit much * Molly nods, still watching (Molly) Maybe if it weren't such an important journey, I wouldn't mind * Morgan nods (Morgan) indeed (Morgan) how're you feeling? * Molly shrugs (Molly) So much has been going on it has been at the back of my mind til now * Morgan nods (Molly) Still, it will be over soon (Morgan) aye, it will, then we can get back to getting on with things * Molly looks back to him "how are you today?" * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) had another sebastien nightmare... Claudia is pushing me to sail tonight... * Molly nods slowly (Molly) I see (Morgan) She'll just have to wait... and the dream, I'll write that down later * Molly watches him solemnly (Molly) We have an hour before we get there, if you wished to talk about it (Morgan) which part? * Molly smiles (Molly) Either... both (Morgan) her argument to go today makes a practical sense * Molly chews her lower lip (Molly) You want to go (Morgan) I dislike the waiting, but I will not leave you when you need me * Molly tilts up her chin (Molly) I would not keep you here when you want to be elsewhere, just as I never have before (Morgan) I don't want to be elsewhere (Molly) But you do not want to wait another three days... (Morgan) It chafes on me, I'll admit * Molly nods (Molly) If that is your wish, I will not try to stop you (Morgan) blossom, don't push me away (Molly) I do not want you to be unhappy. If you would be happier leaving today, then leave today (Morgan) I'd be happier catching him, but I don't want to leave you bearing this burden alone (Molly) I will endure, as always. (Morgan) I know, but I don't want you to have to (Molly) I know. It is your decision (Morgan) I'm aware of that. What do you _want_ me to do? (Molly) Whatever will make you happy * Morgan frowns at her (Morgan) stop it (Molly) Liebes herz, have I ever _not_ prioritised your well-being over my own? (Morgan) Thats not what you're doing right now... you're avoiding telling me what you _want_ (Molly) Because all I want, all I _ever_ want, is to make you happy. * Morgan sighs (Morgan) right * Molly nods (Molly) If you are to go today, we need to take Varick to the Rose so he can speak to Captain Ulysses. I won't have time to write more, but I am sure you will manage fine. We should send the coach to Sorgi when we get to the courthouse to give him time to provision, and to collect a few more of our belongings (Morgan) I'm not going * Molly nods (Molly) If that is what you wish (Morgan) I want to be here and help you through this * Molly nods (Molly) I know you do * Molly sighs, looking back to the rain again (Molly) I can manage. I have Varick, Inga, and Elsie. I have Peter and Beth and the children. (Morgan) I don't want to suddenly change the plans for Varick, either. * Molly nods (Molly) I can understand that (Morgan) I'd quite like to see how Elsie gets on at this ball, too * Molly smiles (Molly) I must find time to teach her some basic steps (Morgan) that would be useful * Molly nods (Molly) I will fit it in somehow (Morgan) I'm sure * Molly takes a deep breath (Molly) Alright. You are staying. * Morgan nods (Molly) Do you wish me to sit next to you whilst you tell me your nightmare? (Morgan) If you wish to * Molly watches him (Molly) Do _you_ wish me to? (Morgan) I wouldn't say no to the closeness * Molly moves over, sitting next to him and taking his hand (Molly) What happened in the nightmare? (Morgan) You'd been off sailing the routes that Seb did before he died... I'd grown weary of always being an afterthought while you sailed around every summer * Molly squeezes his hand gently (Molly) This was like the one you had before? * Morgan nods (Morgan) but this time I'd met Dietlinde and was going to give you an ultimatum * Molly blinks rapidly a moment (Molly) What was the ultimatum? (Morgan) That either you stop putting me first or I move on I think (Molly) Hmm. What happened then? (Morgan) then I woke up * Molly nods (Molly) That is deeply unple (Molly) Unpleasant * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye (Molly) I... am not sure what to say about it. * Morgan nods (Molly) I am sorry you were hurting again. How are you feeling about it now? * Morgan shrugs (Molly) Last time you were concerned it was an insight into my feelings. Can I alleviate any concerns for you? (Morgan) just not sure what it means... is it just an alternate path? * Molly shrugs, watching from the window (Molly) I suppose it must be (Morgan) or my mind is trying to show me something thats bothering me but I haven't figured it out yet (Molly) Maybe. Perhaps you are more jealous about the prospect of me having potentially belonged to another than you realise? * Morgan nods (Morgan) maybe (Molly) I do not see what else it could be. (Morgan) no... (Molly) I cannot say I like it (Morgan) no? * Molly shrugs (Molly) It is unpleasant to think of my having hurt you or pushed you that far. * Morgan nods * Molly frowns (Molly) It's silly, it didn't even happen... (Morgan) yet it bothers you * Molly nods (Molly) It does * Molly glances at him (Molly) I know it shouldn't, but... *she shrugs* (Morgan) you needn't, you've done neither of those things (Molly) No... I know. It's just not nice to think that is potentially where we might have ended up, and that the achieving the convergence could come with no guarantee of us being happy (Morgan) no, its not (Molly) Does it make you feel jealous, despite the fact that it's only something that might have happened but hasn't? * Morgan nods * Molly kisses his knuckles (Molly) I'm sorry (Morgan) No need blossom * Molly nods. She rests her cheek to his arm, and a few minutes pass before she says "liebes herz?" (Morgan) yes? (Molly) **she says quietly** Did you sleep with her in the nightmare? (Morgan) No * Molly nods a little "alright" * Molly doesn't bring it up for the rest of the long rainy journey to the courthouse in the town ** You are now disconnected ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Sunday, 12 September 2021 18:35:15 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** You have joined #7thsea (Molly) **The office of the Justice Of The Peace is in a building that must be one of the oldest in Tawstock, its stylings more Medieval than modern. Molly looks up at the building a moment before squaring her shoulders. (Molly) Let's get this over with. * Morgan nods (Molly) **Inside it's very formal, and the staff are wealthily but soberly dressed in greys and blacks. They are not made to wait, on account of her status. She enters into the room that is generally used for magistrates' rulings over petty crimes and more serious procedures, the dark wooden bench complete with gavel at the front. (Molly) **Near but facing the bench is the dock, a small space complete with anchor points to manacle criminals to. Behind the dock is a wiry, sour faced man, wearing a long powdered wig as Avalon Judges tend to * Molly squares her shoulders a little again before she approaches, and her identity is confirmed. The justice of the peace is surprisingly gently spoken, and sounds like a man of good breeding. There are two clerks there also. Bows are given politely. (Molly) **Paperwork is organised quietly. Meanwhile Molly stands quietly, her hands clasped together at her waist. Her gaze is upon the blue and white Avalonian flag on the wall above the bench. Her expression is neutral. (Molly) JOP: Your Grace, if you would place your hand upon the holy book. **she does so** (Molly) JOP: Repeat after me 'I, Molly Isabella Koertig, nee Forrester, being of sound mind and free from coercion, make a solemn vow before Almighty God … (Molly) **she repeats this** (Molly) JOP: … that from this day forth I relinquish my citizenship of Avalon and all the rights and privileges granted by it. **she repeats this too, watching her own hand on the book. She sounds a little sad, but not undecided* (Molly) JOP: I understand that I am neither protected by or bound to Queen Elaine of Avalon, nor obligated to attend the Church Of Avalon or be of that faith. **she repeats again solemnly** (Molly) JOP: I understand that my children will not gain Avalonian citizenship by being brought forth from me, but may do do through their paternal line. **she smiles slightly as she recites this** (Molly) JOP: I understand I can inherit or gain no titled Avalonian position as a non-citizen, except through marriage to an Avalonian citizen. **Molly repeats it** (Molly) JOP: I relinquish my Avalonian citizenship * Molly takes a deep breath "I relinquish my Avalonian citizenship" (Molly) **The JOP nods** Very well. Now I need you to sign all three copies of this, and you can go about your day. **he lets her sign them first before he signs all three and his assistant signs them too** * Molly sets down the quill, inclining her head. They all stand to bow to her, and she walks out into the rain that hits the streets that belong to a country she no longer does. * Morgan places his hand around hers * Molly squeezes it gently (Molly) I have some packing to do on the Rose * Morgan nods (Morgan) alright * Molly gets back into the carriage after giving the driver instructions * Morgan sits beside her * Molly watches the rain for the short drive to the docks. There's several ships but barely anyone on the dock or up on the decks. Everyone seems to be hunkering down from the rain. * Morgan turns to watch her carefully (Molly) Maybe it'll be drier after lunch (Morgan) I doubt it * Molly pulls up the hood of her cloak before exiting the carriage, and makes quick work of going up the gang plank and touching the horse shoe. A few crewmen are mopping the deck * Morgan follows her up * Molly heads down to their study. Sorgi comes out of his at just the moment to intercept Morgan ** You're now known as Sorgi (Sorgi) Good morning, m'lord, I wasn't expecting you (Morgan) Captain. Molly needed to pack some things for when we head off... she's just been to the magistrates... * Sorgi nods (Sorgi) When you are free, I'd like a word, m'lord (Morgan) Let me just check on her and I'll be back * Sorgi nods. Molly is in their room, her wet cloak has been hung up. She's taking things from the wardrobe * Morgan watches her (Morgan) do you need to talk? (Sorgi) **she shakes her head** Not right now, liebling (Morgan) Do you need anything? (Sorgi) M: I don't think so * Morgan nods slightly (Morgan) alright, Sorgi wants to see me (Sorgi) M: Alright, my love. I'll be here. * Morgan nods, heading back to find Sorgi * Sorgi is in his study sat at the desk * Morgan taps on the door (Sorgi) Come in and take a seat * Morgan does so (Sorgi) Nothing much, m'lord, but last time I saw you you were confiding about your nightmare. I wanted to see how you are doing (Morgan) Oh... I thought perhaps there was some problem... last time you wanted a word was quite tense. I'm alright, I think. * Sorgi nods (Sorgi) I've been wondering if I should have come to find you. Claudia has been on edge about it, saying both you and Heinzharold were having problems * Morgan nods (Morgan) As much as I've hated how it makes her feel, I couldn't burden Claudia with that (Sorgi) She's a strong woman, but not as over all the rapes as she makes out (Sorgi) ((He hasnt told Sorgi the extent of the attack, as far as I can make out from the logs, just that Elsie was raped, pregnant and will die in childbirth)) (Morgan) No, I don't think so... but the brutality involved here... *he shudders* (Sorgi) Worse than normal? * Morgan nods * Sorgi looks grim (Sorgi) Keep it from Claudia if you can. She won't like it, but you won't like the things she will have to tell you if the flashbacks start again (Morgan) We've already agreed she's not going to know, given the impact its had on HeinzHarold and me... we need one of us to remain clear headed * Sorgi nods (Sorgi) How is he doing? (Morgan) better now. * Sorgi nods (Sorgi) Sailing with us, m'lord? * Morgan nods (Morgan) HeinzHarold has a plan for a route... we're going to track Dau down and bring him back here * Sorgi nods (Sorgi) Claudia mentioned it. I have some maps and charts for that side of the country * Morgan nods (Morgan) good (Sorgi) Everything is ready for Saturday departure * Morgan nods (Morgan) have you heard that I've given up on killing him myself? (Sorgi) I had not, m'lord * Morgan frowns (Morgan) drop that would you (Sorgi) Just force of habit * Morgan nods (Sorgi) What made you decide that? (Morgan) Lady Torrington was unaware of what had happened. Its been quite a shock to her and the best way to start healing the division in her lands is to bring the man responsible for what happened to justice in front of them all (Sorgi) I see the sense in that. But it isnt what we would do in Eisen. (Morgan) No... we would butcher him... but a man like him will feel it more keenly, being shamed in front of so many he believes are beneath him... and he's not getting a quick death (Sorgi) What is being done? (Morgan) He's being hung, drawn and quartered * Sorgi nods (Sorgi) We just need to find him then * Morgan nods (Morgan) indeed (Sorgi) It will be several weeks I'd imagine (Morgan) HeinzHarold reckons three * Sorgi nods (Sorgi) Are you expecting trouble? (Morgan) You don't mean in terms of combat, do you? (Sorgi) No * Morgan nods slightly (Morgan) I don't know. I'm having distinctly less nightmares at the moment, so I'm hoping thats a step in the right direction * Sorgi nods (Sorgi) Prepare for the worst, hope for the best * Morgan nods (Morgan) indeed * Sorgi nods (Sorgi) Anything else? (Morgan) how're _you_? (Sorgi) Fine, nothing to report * Morgan nods (Morgan) no doubt we'll have time to talk over the next few weeks * Sorgi nods (Sorgi) I expect so * Morgan nods, getting up * Sorgi does too, putting on a waxed coat and hat before letting him out * Morgan goes back to his study ** You're now known as Molly * Molly is still in the bedroom folding her clothes into the fyodor trunk * Morgan sits on the bed * Molly takes out the silver and blue dress she wore at the Winter Ball in Freiburg (Molly) I thought perhaps this for Friday evening, what thinks you? * Morgan nods (Morgan) I like that one * Molly nods, folding it carefully (Molly) Is Sorgi well? * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye, he's fine * Molly nods, going back to the wardrobe (Molly) Good. I do not think I need more than one ballgown * Morgan nods (Morgan) probably not * Molly nods, shutting the door. She comes to sit beside him (Molly) I have packed everything I need then, but perhaps we could just be here a little while (Morgan) If you wish blossom * Molly nods (Molly) If there are things you wish to get done, you needn't stay * Morgan shakes his head (Morgan) No, nothing * Molly nods (Molly) Alright, liebling * Molly is quiet for quite a while (Molly) I knew it was coming, I've known for more than a month, but... *she sighs* * Morgan nods * Molly looks to him with a frown (Molly) It's almost like I've lost part of myself (Morgan) I was always part of your identity, I think... it is for everyone * Molly nods (Molly) I will adjust, I will adapt, as always. * Morgan nods (Morgan) its never defined you (Molly) You do not think so? * Morgan shakes his head (Molly) If not that, then what? I was the Avalonian woman you fell in love with, your Avalonian mistress, your Avalonian wife... (Morgan) a descriptor... You were my trusted friend, the beautiful, kind woman I fell in love with, my devoted wife... * Molly smiles (Molly) That is how you think of me? (Morgan) how else would I think of you? * Molly looks perplexed (Molly) I am not sure really. I suppose I think of myself as being part of the Avalon part of your life, that I appealed to the half of you that is Avalonian. It is hard to explain * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) You have Avalonian traits, certainly, but that is not an identity, more influence of your upbringing. Find me a practical Avalonian noble... (Molly) Your mother * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) find me another... my family don't count when talking stereotypes * Molly smiles slightly (Molly) I was hoping you would not ask that, my love * Molly bites her lip (Molly) Perhaps that is just a problem with nobility, not nationality? (Morgan) So... Eisen people are practical? * Molly looks torn (Molly) Ummm... some are. (Morgan) Its a necessity of location... Eiseners are fantastic at fighting, because we had to be. Avalonians are practical, generally speaking, because its useful. Vendel... well, if I ever find a use for one, I'll let you know, but you see my point (Morgan) your practical nature is a result of your upbringing and surroundings, not inherent due to your birth * Molly looks to think of something "I suppose so. I think it was something we had in common, where we had little else that was. It was a way in which I fit you" (Morgan) No, your gentle nature, your loving support, your kind heart, thats what fit... If we were to look at what would suit based on our national stereotypes, Claudia and I should make a great pairing... * Molly giggles (Molly) You would be a truly awful couple * Morgan nods (Morgan) indeed * Molly 's nose wrinkles (Molly) And having had that nightmare of you kissing her, I'd rather not ponder it too much! (Morgan) if I tried that she'd break every bone in my body anyway (Molly) And many softer places! * Morgan nods (Morgan) quite (Molly) I suppose by that logic John and I should have been a great pairing, but I have changed too much * Morgan shrugs (Molly) It just feels... strange. I knew I would be giving up my life in Avalon when we discussed how it did not feel safe here when we had so much more to lose, but I did not imagine giving up my citizenship and my rights here * Morgan nods (Molly) If you were to leave me, I would not really be able to come back here (Morgan) Not a consideration you need entertain * Molly nods (Molly) Our children will still have citizenship. That's strange, isnt it? (Morgan) I was thinking about that during the meeting (Molly) I am fully Avalonian blood but wont, yet you are half and they will be three quarters and do. * Morgan nods * Molly leans her cheek to his arm (Molly) It is done now. It was necessary to further our goals. Sometimes that means hard sacrifices for future good. * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye (Molly) We ought to have lunch before we brave the rain again (Molly) **There's a tap at the outer door* * Molly sighs "shall I get that?" (Morgan) I'll get it * Morgan gets up, heading out into the other room to open the door (Molly) **The crewman gives him a parcel addressed to him. It feels very soft** * Morgan thanks him, taking it through to the bedroom to open * Molly looks at it, then looks innocentish (Molly) What do you have there, my love? (Morgan) Its a parcel (Molly) Mmhmm. What is in it? (Molly) **It appears to be new cream colour flannels** (Molly) ((Peaked too early lol)) * Morgan opens it (Molly) **It appears to be new cream colour flannels** * Molly bites her lip, trying not to giggle (Molly) Mmhmm * Morgan looks them over (Molly) **they're soft but quite non-descript** (Morgan) Why... do I have these? (Molly) Oh, they're a practical sort of thing to have about the place, especially when travelling away from home (Morgan) flannels... (Molly) Mmhmm. Practical for a man, I think? More practical than handkerchiefs * Morgan raises an eyebrow * Molly simply smiles at him, raising both of hers (Molly) Yes, mon petit chou, is there a problem? (Morgan) Not seeing why I'd need them... * Molly starts to blush now (Molly) Well... just... with being away from me for so long... (Morgan) yes... * Molly blushes more, fidgeting a little (Molly) I just thought that perhaps there may be sometimes you miss me and have... frustrations to resolve... * Molly watches his expression (Morgan) I'm not sure I understand... * Molly blushes even harder (Molly) Liebes herz, are you teasing me? (Morgan) ruthlessly * Molly laughs (Molly) That is most cruel of you, mein sehnsucht! * Morgan nods (Morgan) its a character flaw of mine (Molly) Being a tease? Oh yes, I know. * Molly watches him (Molly) You would have continued feigning naivety until I would have needed to say something I would have struggled to say without either embarrassing or arousing myself? * Morgan nods (Morgan) most likely (Molly) Most dreadful, my love. And when I was simply trying to help you! *she giggles* * Morgan nods (Morgan) I know, I'm horrendous at times (Molly) I thought it rather practical as with a towel or shirt it would have to go to the crew for laundry. With a flannel that is not necessary * Morgan nods (Morgan) makes sense (Molly) I dread to think how you all managed during the War! (Morgan) the others frequented brothels as often as leave allowed, and there were the camp followers, I suppose (Molly) That would not help on ship though (Morgan) no * Molly shakes her head, smiling (Molly) We need to go to lunch. Otherwise I shall either lose my appetite for food considering that prospect about a ship full of men, or gain an entirely different appetite considering that prospect about you! * Morgan laughs (Morgan) come along blossom, lets get something to eat * Molly smiles, standing up (Molly) It's rather a novel way to cheer me up, but it has done so nonetheless * Morgan nods (Morgan) good * Molly kisses his cheek (Molly) Thank you (Morgan) I've not done anything blossom (Molly) You have listened, supported me, and made me laugh. That is everything * Morgan nods (Morgan) very well * Molly nods and takes his hand, leading him out into the study and into the hall (Molly) ((Call it there)) ** You are now disconnected (Ping timeout) ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Monday, 13 September 2021 11:29:39 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** You have joined #7thsea (Molly) **They have lunch, the crew seeming cheerful. They briefly sight Captain Ulysses who is on a mouse hunting mission. With farewells to Sorgi they're soon back in the carriage. She sits next to him, holding one of his hands between both of hers. She seems quiet but relaxed** (Molly) Will you be busy looking over the estate manager applications with Her Grace this afternoon? * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye. I'm reluctant to put Dagget in place given his attitude unless her Grace can control him * Molly nods (Molly) People do not like him. It would be a bad choice, and also unfair to expect John to step up at Goodleigh yet * Morgan nods (Morgan) I agree (Molly) But he is well known, and has some status, and in that respect it will be hard to deny him * Morgan smiles slightly (Morgan) Thats never stopped me in the past (Molly) No, but it may stop Lady Torrington (Morgan) We'll see... (Molly) Maybe there will be someone who is better suited? (Morgan) I hope so * Molly nods (Molly) She needs someone good. Someone like Bauer. Koln is flourishing because of him * Morgan nods (Morgan) She needs someone who will work with her vision rather than their own * Molly nods (Molly) It might not be very easy to find a man so willing to take progressive commands from a woman (Morgan) No... its going to be hard work finding someone * Molly squeezes his hand (Molly) She will need you * Morgan nods (Molly) She is lucky to have you here * Morgan shrusg (Morgan) She told me I was abandoning her to her fate when I told her we weren't coming back * Molly frowns (Molly) That was rather unnecessary. You are entitled to make a life for yourself, and you have duties of your own. * Morgan nods (Molly) If she cannot cope alone, she should wed a man who can manage for her. (Morgan) She can do it * Molly nods a little (Molly) It is rare, but I think many women could, given the chance * Morgan nods (Molly) I can try to help her, if you wish, whilst you are gone? * Morgan nods (Morgan) I was thinking the might be an idea * Molly smiles (Molly) It will fill some of the days, wont it? * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye it will (Molly) It will be hard for you to find things to do, except for learning to play your new tin whistle? (Morgan) probably, aye (Molly) It doesnt sound very enjoyable, my love * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) I'm tracking a target, its meant to be work * Molly smiles (Molly) This will bring out the Eisen in you all? (Morgan) Its going to be difficult, not dealing with it in the way we would in Eisen... * Molly nods (Molly) Even with the best of intentions, the provocation of his face and personality will render that a challenge (Morgan) There are places the bruises wont show... * Molly nods (Molly) Lots of places * Morgan nods * Molly places a kiss in his palm (Molly) He deserves it * Morgan nods (Morgan) undoubtedly * Molly holds his hand to her cheek (Molly) Will you be captaining her whilst you are away? (Morgan) I doubt it (Molly) That is a pity * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) she's got a captain (Molly) But it is your childhood dream, my love (Morgan) I'm aware of that (Molly) I know Sorgi would be very happy to yield her to you a while (Morgan) I doubt it (Molly) What makes you think so? (Morgan) Because he's the captain (Molly) She is your ship (Morgan) true, but I would not wish to displease him by taking over * Molly shakes her head (Molly) I am certain he understands * Morgan shrugs (Molly) I have mentioned in passing to him about it (Morgan) oh? (Molly) He has no trouble with yielding command to either of us, knowing that we would ask for any help or guidance without hesitation (Morgan) I'll speak to him about it then * Molly nods (Molly) It would please me to think the trip was somehow positive * Morgan nods (Molly) Perhaps you'll write your adventures for me? Or make some sketches? (Morgan) if you wish (Molly) I would like that very much. I like that you would be thinking of me each day (Morgan) constantly, I should imagine * Molly smiles (Molly) Really? But you will be so busy! * Morgan shrugs * Molly kisses his palm again (Molly) I will be thinking of you all day every day, as always (Morgan) I'm sure lady Torrington and Varick will keep you occupied (Molly) Not from my thoughts of you, liebling. Nothing distracts me from that (Morgan) I'm rather pleased to hear that (Molly) You are surprised, my love? (Morgan) perhaps (Molly) I'm not sure there has been a day in more than a year when I have not thought of you relentlessly * Morgan nods (Molly) I hope that does not displease you? (Morgan) of course not * Molly shrugs (Molly) It might have troubled you that I was so fond of you so long ago (Morgan) it may have then * Molly nods (Molly) You would have been unhappy about it, I suspect (Morgan) probably * Molly nods (Molly) You did not start thinking of me on a daily basis til much more recently? (Morgan) more recently than you did I, certainly * Molly nods (Molly) It was lucky that I did, I think. If it had not been so early, I might have been married before you felt anything * Morgan nods (Morgan) a distinct possibility (Molly) And once I had made vows, that would have rendered it completely impossible that you would care for me. You would not have allowed yourself to feel anything for another man's wife. * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) I suppose so * Molly nods slowly (Molly) I'd probably have moved away if you had had feelings for me whilst I was married. I would not have made you go through that. * Morgan nods * Molly smiles a little (Molly) I'd have given up everything I'd ever known just to protect you from further pain (Morgan) I know blossom * Molly nods, squeezing his hand (Molly) Would you have left, do you think, if you'd known how I felt? (Morgan) back then? Maybe. Or tried harder to get myself killed * Molly nods ** You are now disconnected (Connection reset) ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Monday, 13 September 2021 16:28:35 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** Reconnecting to 192.168.1.82:6667… ** You have joined #7thsea (Molly) [16:28] * Molly nods (Molly) It's been so complicated for us * Morgan nods (Morgan) it has rather (Molly) Certainly more complicated than for Heinzharold and Inga, who really were just love at first sight * Morgan nods (Molly) And your parents * Molly frowns (Molly) And my parents * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) I suppose * Molly shrugs too (Molly) I suppose there was likely some influencing there to ensure we were born. (Morgan) It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest * Molly nods, watching the continuing rain from the window quietly (Molly) I suppose there's a value to having a start that had to be fought for more though... (Morgan) I suppose so * Molly squeezes his hand, speaking softly (Molly) Does it sadden you that we did not have that? * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) that simply wasn't available to us * Molly nods (Molly) It wasn't * Molly leans her cheek to his arm * Morgan nods (Molly) Some of the dreams have that, dont they? Like the Allemande ones, or the ones where we meet in Catterick * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye * Molly nods (Molly) I wonder if we should speak to Peter and Beth about the adoption tomorrow? * Morgan nods (Morgan) good idea * Molly nods (Molly) And take Varick to the ship. I am sure the time will fly until you can go (Morgan) perhaps * Molly nods (Molly) And you will leave early on Saturday? Do you want us to see you off at the dock? (Morgan) No, I think you should stay at the cottage (Molly) Why, liebling? (Morgan) I don't want to disrupt Varick by having him watch us leave (Molly) I could come without him? (Morgan) No, he'll need you with him * Molly nods (Molly) As you wish (Molly) **the rest of the journey is quite straightforward, and they are soon out of the coach in the coach yard. The rain is lessened but still there. She pulls her cloak tighter** I have some things to do, are you going to see Lady Torrington? (Morgan) I suppose i should (Molly) There is something you would rather do? * Morgan shrugs (Molly) If you are worrying about me, you needn't. (Morgan) no? (Molly) I'll be with Inga and Varick, I'll be fine * Morgan nods (Morgan) alright blossom * Molly nods, smiling a little (Molly) I am going to go, before I am drenched. I'll see you in a while * Morgan nods, moving out of her way * Molly holds her skirts a little from the ground to keeps the hems dry and she goes past him towards the cottages * Morgan heads inside the main house, going via the kitchen to arrange for coffee before going to find Catherine ** You're now known as Catherine * Catherine is in the library, there's no sign of Kurt (Morgan) Your Grace... * Catherine smiles (Catherine) Come in Morgan * Morgan does so (Catherine) How is everyone? (Morgan) well enough... yourself? (Catherine) I am well. I have ten applications for the position of Estates Manager * Morgan nods (Morgan) Better than I expected. Any of them stand out to you? (Catherine) There's four that I think are worthy of consideration (Morgan) What makes you discard the others? (Catherine) Five have no experience at all, and one worked for Piram until a few weeks ago * Morgan smiles slightly (Morgan) alright (Catherine) The others are better suited. One is a well-known local, another moved here earlier this year, and two from neighbouring areas. (Morgan) Dagget's the local I assume... (Catherine) He is * Morgan sits at the table (Morgan) alright, talk me through each one * Catherine starts with Sir Dagget, how much land he owns, how he has run his land for thirty years. Though he hasn't run an estate, nor worked for anyone else, his local knowledge is exemplary, as are his social connections (Catherine) **coffee makes the break before the next man. The name Richard Roberts is immediately familiar to Morgan, the man who sold Molly and Morgan the couch, who had lost a woman he loved to a drowning accident. Though he knows this man is from somewhere in the north, it is the name of a place this man was an assistant estates manager, Coleraine, that surprises him, an estate he knows is on the Catterick border between his mother's land and Durham (Catherine) **the third man is called Amos Armstrong, currently an assistant estates manager for a family Catherine knows nearby. He has been an assistant for ten years but the actual estates manager is quite young still, so unlikely to retire for a long time. The fourth is a man called Humble Sawyer, a man who has been an estates manager of a smaller estate that is not very profitable * Morgan nods slowly (Morgan) alright... your initial leanings? * Catherine shrugs (Catherine) Sir Dagget seems like the one who would slot in here easiest (Morgan) Do we want easiest? (Catherine) I don't know really (Morgan) What do you think you _need_? (Catherine) Someone competent (Morgan) and... (Catherine) Someone who does what I want? (Morgan) Did I always do what you wanted? (Catherine) Rarely * Catherine drinks some coffee (Catherine) You always did what you thought was best for me * Morgan smiles slightly (Morgan) You've started yourself and Tawstock on a path to improve things now... you want someone who will work to your vision, but not be afraid to disagree with you, advise you. * Catherine nods (Catherine) Who stands out to you? (Morgan) I don't want to tell you yet. I want you to form an idea of who would be best suited to what you want to achieve, then we'll compare * Catherine nods (Catherine) We dont really know anything about any of them. Would it be better to meet them? (Morgan) I think it would be an idea, yes... an interview, of sorts. Dagget is known to you, Armstrong assists on an estate of someone you know, so you can reach out and get their view. Sayer, if I'm being honest, bothers me. The profitability of his estate is troubling, but thats something he needs to answer to... perhaps there are issues we are unaware of. Roberts... I am aware of Coleraine, and the estate... it borders my mothers land * Catherine nods (Catherine) Should I send a messenger to Riverstone to learn about Armstrong? * Morgan nods (Morgan) it sounds like he wants to get out from under the estates manager, but if he has the skills and drive.... thats no issue (Catherine) Would it be possible to get information from your mother's land about their neighbour? (Morgan) I don't see why not... though I do have experience with Roberts himself (Catherine) What experience? (Morgan) well I didn't hit him. He lost a love to drowning and was... well, in a similar place to me when I came to Avalon. * Catherine nods (Catherine) Will he be... functional enough? (Morgan) The fact he has applied shows he is moving forward, so I would imagine so... despite my being hellbent on getting myself killed, I was functional enough to keep your lands running * Catherine nods (Catherine) How did you manage that? (Morgan) Something between a desire not to fail you and sheer bloody mindedness * Catherine nods (Catherine) You seem better now * Morgan nods (Morgan) definitely getting there * Catherine mods (Catherine) So this shouldn't be something that counts against him? (Morgan) I don't believe so, not unless it affects his abilities (Catherine) He lives in town, should I ask him to come today? * Morgan nods (Morgan) he and Daggett I would say (Morgan) have a talk with some of the staff, find out what the general feeling towards each of them is in the town... they'll know something * Catherine nods (Catherine) When are you sailing? (Morgan) Saturday morning (Catherine) That's quite soon. Should I ask the others to come on friday? * Morgan nods (Morgan) yes, absolutely. (Catherine) Thank you, it'll be good to have you here for it (Morgan) I'm only leaving when I am to find Dau * Catherine nods (Catherine) Do you think you can? (Morgan) one way or another, we'll find him and bring him back * Catherine checks the time (Catherine) I think I will need to send coaches in the hopes Sir Dagget and Mr Roberts can come today (Morgan) Shows serious intent, its a good idea * Catherine rings the bell, and sets the staff on this (Catherine) It will be several hours at least. Would you like me to call you when they get here? (Morgan) please... I'm going to see how your guards are getting along then spend some time with my son in the meantime * Catherine nods (Catherine) You really love him, dont you? (Morgan) Completely. * Catherine nods (Catherine) That's nice. It must be nice to have a child in your life * Morgan frowns briefly (Morgan) not the first time... (Catherine) Ah yes, sorry * Catherine drinks some coffee (Catherine) He seems like a nice boy (Morgan) He is... he's had a challenging life so far (Catherine) I think he's in good hands now * Morgan inclines his head (Morgan) He's a wonderful boy... he just needed love and safety * Catherine smiles (Catherine) I'll call you when it is time * Morgan nods, finishing his coffee before getting up (Morgan) if her Grace will excuse me... (Catherine) **She excuses him. He discovers that the guards have gone for the day. He finds Varick drawing in the kitchen of the big cottage whilst Inga and HH are busy making eyes at each other over her knitting of baby clothes * Morgan goes and sits next to Varick ** You're now known as Varick * Varick hugs Morgan (Varick) I'm drawing you a picture (Morgan) oh? * Varick shows him. It has Molly, Inga, Varick, Elsie, and a baby at the cottages. They're all smiling (Morgan) very nice (Varick) It's so you can see us everyday * Morgan nods (Morgan) good, I'm glad (Varick) I will miss you (Morgan) I'll miss you, so very much * Varick nods (Varick) Captain Ulysses will look after you * Morgan nods (Morgan) I know he will (Varick) HH: I'll look after 'im too. * Varick looks at HH a moment (Varick) Captain Ulysses will cuddle him at night (Varick) HH: *he laughs* I'm not gonna be doin' that, bad enough sharing a room with him! (Morgan) I've got a whistle... (Varick) HH: What sorta whistle? (Morgan) tin... (Varick) HH: *he groans* oh no * Morgan nods slowly (Varick) Why do you have a whistle? (Morgan) I always wanted one... my father thought it wasn't the sort of thing a veisgraf should play (Varick) Can you play it? (Morgan) not yet (Varick) **HH groans louder** Its gonna be like the guitar all over again (Morgan) and I'm good with that now... at least I wont have you in a hammock nearby moaning like an old woman (Varick) HH: I'll put cotton wool in my ears (Morgan) feel free (Varick) HH: I will * Varick goes back to drawing, HH and Inga go back to staring at each other * Morgan just sits beside Varick, watching him draw * Varick soon finishes and wants to play. They spend quite a while all playing cards. Molly joins them a little while later, making hot drinks and then eventually Varick's tea not long before Claudia joins them. He is about to take Varick to be when there's a maid knocking at the door for Morgan * Morgan goes and opens it (Varick) M: Master Hockridge, Mr Roberts is here * Morgan nods, going to kiss Varicks crown (Morgan) I need to go and see someone... Molly will put you to bed (Varick) But I want you to put me to bed (Morgan) I've got to help Lady Torrington find someone to replace me so I can come home with you * Varick sighs (Varick) Okay * Morgan nods (Morgan) I'll see you in the morning * Varick nods, going to Molly * Morgan looks to Molly (Morgan) I'll try to not be long (Varick) Molly: Take as long as you need, my love * Morgan nods, picking up a coat and heading for the door (Varick) **Molly takes Varick upstairs. Outside is drizzly, and the maid leads the way to the library before going back to send the man through ** You're now known as Roberts * Roberts is polite and smartly dressed. He bows appropriately before taking a seat and tea as instructed. Catherine looks to Morgan, waiting for him to take the lead (Morgan) Mr Roberts, its good to see you again. How are you? (Roberts) I am well, thank you. And good yourself, sir? * Morgan nods (Morgan) surprisingly so... things have progressed for you since we spoke last? (Roberts) They have. I am settled into the community now. * Morgan nods (Morgan) I'm glad to hear that. To business, I suppose... * Roberts nods (Morgan) Were you at the town meeting? (Roberts) I was, near the back (Morgan) your thoughts? (Roberts) I thought Her Grace spoke very eloquently and set out her vision for the future well * Morgan nods (Morgan) Her Grace believes it best started by immediate cessation of tithes from larger landowners, and increasing taxes on traders... what would your opinion on that be? (Roberts) At a personal level, or a professional one? (Morgan) Lets assume right now its your view as her estates manager... (Roberts) I would suggest that it would be met with great displeasure by the people who would see it as unfair, but if that was her wish after considering the consequences I would implement her plan and keep a watchful eye upon the impact (Morgan) I see... and your personal view? (Roberts) That it is a bad idea and there will likely be trouble from in it. There would be better ways to achieve the same end. * Morgan nods slightly (Morgan) alright. You have experience in estates management in your past... why do you want to return to that? (Roberts) I enjoyed it. Carpentry has always been a hobby, which is why I started in furniture here. (Morgan) and your views of a young woman breaking from the norm and taking an active hand in her lands, rather than accepting the status quo? (Roberts) They are her lands, and anyone who has responsibility over others should be actively engaged (Morgan) Surely her actions should be dictated by a man while she takes part in suitably womanly activities (Roberts) No. They are her lands. * Morgan nods slightly before looking at Catherine (Morgan) anything you wish to ask? (Roberts) C: I would want an estates manager living on the estate. Is that a possibility for you? * Roberts nods (Roberts) It is, your Grace. (Roberts) C: *she looks to Morgan* That is all * Morgan looks at Roberts (Morgan) anything you wish to add? (Roberts) Just that I am grateful to have been given consideration, sir. * Morgan nods (Morgan) One of the staff will see you out. You'll have an answer by the end of the week (Roberts) Thank you *he stands and bows* Good evening, sir, your Grace * Roberts is shown out. Catherine looks at Morgan ** You're now known as Catherine (Catherine) What do you think? (Morgan) what do _you_ think? (Catherine) He seems calm and rational (Morgan) certainly more than I was (Catherine) He wasn't afraid to say that the idea about the tithes was bad * Morgan nods (Morgan) personally I'd like you to foster the sort of relationship where his second statement was more forthcoming... (Catherine) Not everyone is as forthright as you (Morgan) No, but they could be... You need the truth, not a carefully couched statement. * Catherine nods (Catherine) I think he has potential * Morgan nods (Morgan) I want you to put the same scenario to Dagget. He doesn't like me, but I think if you say it he'll accept thats what you're thinking * Catherine nods. They are soon interrupted by the man in question. He fawns over Catherine, praising her and her home. Compared to the way he is around Molly, its grating. Catherine does a good job of presenting the scenario, and Dagget assures he he thinks it is wise and he would do as she bids. (Morgan) What of the resulting bad feeling in town? (Catherine) D: She is their Duchess, they would want to follow her wishes (Morgan) What thinks you of her Grace getting more involved in town affairs, rather than committing herself to more seemly activities (Catherine) D: **he takes the time to sip his tea** I think Her Grace is a very bright young woman who would be very capable of running her land as she sees fit. (Morgan) but she shouldn't _have_ to... (Catherine) D: She should oversee it all, but the day to day work should be done by those she appoints (Morgan) Why do you want to be her estates manager? (Catherine) D: Because I would like to see Tawstock flourish and grow * Morgan nods, looking to Catherine (Morgan) anything from you? (Catherine) I would want a live in estates manager, Sir Dagget. Could you do that? (Catherine) D: I should think so. My son needs something to be getting on with, and he could manage Goodleigh. (Morgan) Very well... anything you wish to add? (Catherine) D: No, thank you. * Morgan nods (Morgan) the staff will see you out, you'll have your answer by the end of the week (Catherine) **He bows to them** Good evening, Master Hockridge, Good Evening Your Grace * Catherine waits til he is gone, looking at Morgan (Catherine) Well? * Morgan sips his coffee, remaining carefully neutral (Morgan) You know what I'm going to ask... (Catherine) I think he would tell me it was midday at midnight if he thought it would get him the job * Morgan watches her (Morgan) and his view of those adversely affected by the plans? (Catherine) He's only thinking that _he_ wouldn't have to pay, isnt he? (Morgan) Thats how I took it, yes (Catherine) I dont think he's the best choice of the two we have seen so far (Morgan) He seemed quite willing to leave a man who has recently lost a wife and daughter, leaving him a single parent to a daughter, to take on the responsibility of his property... * Catherine nods (Catherine) That's not good, is it? (Morgan) I think its barbaric, but its your opinion I'm interested in (Catherine) I think it's horrible * Morgan nods (Catherine) I don't want him to be my estates manager (Morgan) Then don't hire him * Catherine nods (Morgan) Have you asked the staff about the feelings towards those two men? (Catherine) Yes. Roberts keeps to himself and although people like his work noone really knows him (Morgan) Hard to let people in when you've had so much taken from you. * Catherine nods (Catherine) He seems chatty with you (Morgan) Shared experience... I know how he feels * Catherine nods (Catherine) Will he remarry? ((He was never married to the girl, Lucinda. They'd arranged to meet, he was going to tell how he felt but lost his nerve and left, she went into the lake and drowned)) (Morgan) They weren't married... its very sad, actually (Catherine) Why is that? (Morgan) HE'd gone to tell her how he felt but was overcome by nerves and left... she went into the lake and drowned (Catherine) That is sad, poor man * Morgan nods (Morgan) indeed (Catherine) But he will settle down with a woman here in time? * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) its entirely possible * Catherine nods (Catherine) I think we've cut it from ten to three (Morgan) a fair statement I'd say * Catherine nods (Catherine) I'll let you get back to your family, you'll want to be with them as much as possible before you go * Morgan nods (Morgan) indeed. Enjoy the rest of your evening (Catherine) Thank you. Goodnight * Morgan inclines his head, heading back to the cottage ** You are now disconnected (Ping timeout) ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Tuesday, 14 September 2021 11:35:21 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** You have joined #7thsea (Molly) **He arrives just as dinner is being served, and the six adults eat together. Afterwards everyone goes their separate ways, leaving he and Molly in the parlour. She's sat in a chair near the fire, still working on the Eisen-style baby nightgown. (Molly) How was your afternoon, my love? (Morgan) Not bad... Dagget's out of the running for estates manager * Molly smiles, putting pins into the thigh of her modified trousers as she pulls them from the fabric (Molly) That is good * Molly watches what he is doing * Morgan is fiddling with a small piece of rope (Morgan) how was your afternoon? (Molly) I managed to find time to write more letters to you, and to start helping Elsie with dancing (Morgan) how's she getting on? (Molly) She is picking it up. Certainly enough that she will be able to enjoy the evening, which is the only thing that matters * Morgan nods (Morgan) indeed... and how are you? * Molly smiles a little, putting another pin into the fabric (Molly) Quite good, according to Edward and his rakish friends, but I have been dancing for a while now (Morgan) That is entirely not what I meant * Molly giggles (Molly) No, I know. I am... I am alright. I have many blessings in my life, and the loss of my citizenship is nothing compared to losing one of those blessings. * Morgan nods * Molly rethreads her needle (Molly) Were there any other applications? (Morgan) Ten in total... You remember Mr Roberts, we bought a couch from him... * Molly nods, frowning slightly (Molly) I do (Morgan) he's applied. He used to be an assistant to the estates manager near my mothers land (Molly) That's... that's an odd coincidence... * Morgan nods (Morgan) isn't it. He seems... I'm loathe to say better, but he doesn't seem as hopeless as he was before * Molly nods (Molly) That is good... I hope he will no longer find my presence unpleasant (Morgan) I shouldn't imagine so * Molly nods (Molly) Good. Do you think she may choose him? (Morgan) Maybe. Depends how the other two come across I suppose * Molly nods (Molly) What thinks you? * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) He was given an idea of her Grace's plans and objected to them as I hoped (Molly) There are plans you do not agree with? (Morgan) No, not at all... I told him her plans were to start with immediate increase in taxes on businesses and cessation of tithes from larger landowners. To her credit, she managed to not react (Molly) I would hope she would not consider such. The only results would be non-payment and rebellion. (Morgan) No, she knows it'd be a terrible idea * Molly nods, making more stitches (Molly) It is good that he could see that (Morgan) Mr Roberts pointed out that he thought it was ill advised and but would abide with her wishes once she had considered the consequences... then I asked what his personal view was, rather than a professional one... that was distinctly more to the point * Molly nods (Molly) And what thinks you of that? (Morgan) Realistically I want someone there who will tell her if her idea is bad... which I've told her. She pointed out not everyone is as forthright as I am, so that sort of thing would need to be fostered * Molly nods (Molly) I wonder if some of that is from your background (Morgan) how so? (Molly) Both growing up in the nobility and being in the War gave you a forthrightness many do not have (Morgan) so did Edward, though... * Molly tilts her head (Molly) That is true. But Edward likes the established way of doing things. He had no real drive for change (Morgan) I suppose so (Molly) Or you are just special and set apart from other men... *she giggles* (Morgan) like a sheepdog (Molly) Mmhmm. When will the new estates manager be appointed? (Morgan) There's two more to interview on friday (Molly) Before you sail then? * Morgan nods (Morgan) It'll give whoever is chosen a little while to settle in before I get back (Molly) What would you have me do? (Morgan) Help her build relationships with her staff and the community * Molly nods (Molly) You wish me to take an active role, not a passive one? (Morgan) if needs be. She has a lot to learn in a short time (Molly) You are not concerned that I am not experienced or capable enough? (Morgan) Not at all * Molly nods, finishing then snipping the thread (Molly) I am glad. Did you need to speak to my Father this evening? (Morgan) No, I don't think so (Morgan) oh... actually... yes * Molly nods. She holds up the little gown to the light, giving it a little shake out (Molly) It looks so tiny * Morgan nods (Molly) I am hoping the baby will not come before you return, but it's very possible, isnt it? * Molly carefully folds the nightgown before packing her things into her old broken sewing box. (Morgan) I would imagine so, yes * Molly sighs (Molly) What will be will be. We can only pray that it goes well. I just do not like to think of it all happening without you here (Morgan) Nor do I, not at all (Molly) We will manage though. Whatever comes, Inga and I will manage through it. * Morgan nods (Morgan) I know * Molly stands up (Molly) Please, do not spend your time away worrying for us (Morgan) I'll try blossom * Molly nods (Molly) Think instead about how nice it will be to come back to everyone happy and glad to see you * Morgan nods * Molly leads the way upstairs, getting the mirror set up. As usual there's small talk and assurances of things going well. They discover Yensid has been sent to Tawstock but it will be another week before he arrives. David is there too. Molly doesnt mention the citizenship. Once there's a lull Morgan has time to raise whatever he wishes (Morgan) David, I need you to do something for me, but I also need you to not ask why ** You're now known as David (David) What is it? (Morgan) I need you to go to HeinzHarolds home and collect some items and dispose of them (David) What sort of items? * Morgan lists them * David nods (David) Burn them? * Morgan nods * David makes a note (David) Alright I can see to that (Morgan) Thank you (David) And I cannot ask why? (Morgan) I'd rather you didn't... * David nods (David) And keep it quiet? * Morgan nods * David nods (David) I can do that. I'll have it done by the end of tomorrow and confirm it when I speak to you on Saturday (Morgan) You'll have to tell Molly, I won't be here (David) Why is that? (Morgan) One of my countrymen needs to be found * David nods (David) Peter will be close by if Moll needs him * Morgan nods (David) **The conversation winds down, and soon everyone has said goodbye and things are packed away. Molly hands him some blokners** ** You're now known as Molly (Molly) You will be going to walk around soon? * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye (Molly) Those things... they are from the arsonist? * Molly drinks some of her own drink * Morgan nods (Morgan) HeinzHarold kept them so we could try to find the person who sent him * Molly nods (Molly) Best that that does not happen. (Morgan) indeed (Molly) Do you ever wonder what leads someone to take up such an evil profession? (Morgan) Lack of other skills, lack of morals * Molly nods (Molly) Is it more common now since the War, do you think? (Morgan) probably... its not a skill set thats particularly useful in normal life * Molly nods (Molly) I am sure my father will do as you wish * Morgan nods (Morgan) I hope so * Molly nods (Molly) I am going to get ready for bed, my love. I may have time to write more letters whilst you walk around * Morgan nods (Morgan) alright blossom, I shan't be too long * Molly nods, starting to undress (Molly) Take as long as you need * Morgan nods, finishing his blokners before getting a coat and heading to patrol (Molly) **The rain has stopped, and the moon is big and low on the horizon** * Morgan stares at it for a moment before starting his walk (Molly) **Everything is peaceful as usual. Only their bedroom remains lit when he returns back. Molly is sat up writing in the letters book and fiddling with her lower lip when he gets upstairs** * Morgan stretches before sitting on the bed * Molly shuts the book with a blush (Molly) Was everything well? * Morgan nods (Morgan) the moon is rather impressive this evening * Molly smiles (Molly) Sadly I am most poorly attired to go and look now! * Morgan nods (Morgan) indeed you are (Molly) Another moon on another night then, like when we laid beneath the stars in Atemlos? * Morgan nods * Molly rolls over, putting aside the book and pencil to the nightstand (Molly) Are you forgoing all the things again? You have been doing well so far * Morgan nods (Morgan) I think so * Molly nods, rolling back. She watches him get ready for bed (Molly) Shall I sing tonight? (Morgan) please (Molly) What would you wish to hear? *she smiles* * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) whatever you wish to sing * Molly waits patiently until he is in bed, then curls up to him, singing Kosk Yn Ta to him ** You are now disconnected (Network connection lost) ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Tuesday, 14 September 2021 15:28:42 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** Reconnecting to 192.168.1.82:6667… ** Reconnecting to 192.168.1.82:6667… ** Reconnecting to 192.168.1.82:6667… ** Reconnecting to 192.168.1.82:6667… ** Reconnecting to 192.168.1.82:6667… ** You have joined #7thsea ** You are now disconnected ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Tuesday, 14 September 2021 15:33:45 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** You have joined #7thsea (Molly) **He drifts off, starting to dream his dream. Molly had kissed him goodbye. They hadn't kissed since they had gone back to Lady Torrington's from Carleon weeks ago when she had declared it the last time she would ever be able to. Today's kiss was quick, limited by the fact they were stood on the lawn of a Castilian monestary, but she had given him her blue ribbon favour, and she had kissed him. It had left him reeling a little, so he'd taken a walk. When he comes back into the refractory, Molly is stood with her hand in Kai's. (Molly) **He deeply dislikes this man even on short acquaintance, but this is even worse than it had been in reality, his dislike and jealousy doubled. Their touch is not clandestine, nor even scandalous until held a little longer. Other people including Evie and the irritatingly familiar Kurt are there. Molly and Kai look surprised, but their hands are unbroken** ((done)) ** You are now disconnected (Ping timeout) ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Tuesday, 14 September 2021 17:00:59 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** Reconnecting to 192.168.1.82:6667… ** You are now disconnected (Network connection lost) ** Reconnecting to 192.168.1.82:6667… ** You have joined #7thsea * Morgan stares at their hands (Molly) **Kai watches Morgan, his usual confident stance. Molly follows Morgan's gaze, looking at their joined hands also, her head tilting. The various people around them continue to chatter, not noticing** * Morgan glances at Kai before looking to Molly * Molly is still looking at their hands a moment longer, still looking a bit puzzled. Kai puts his other hand over hers, patting it (Molly) K: I vould be delighted to visit you zere at your home, Molly * Morgan tilts his head, watching them * Molly looks up at Kai a moment, and seems to not know what to say. They just watch each other before Kai releases her hand, offering to get her more wine. * Morgan keeps his eyes on Kai, backing towards the doors again * Molly watches Morgan with a little frown. She completely misses Kai holding her a glass of wine, despite him saying her name twice (Molly) **Evie seems to have taken notice of Morgan's presence now, but does nothing but watch him* * Morgan looks to Molly, continuing to move backwards * Molly looks torn, glancing around the room. Then she looks back at Morgan again, waiting to see his next move. Again Kai says her name ** You are now disconnected (Ping timeout) ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Tuesday, 14 September 2021 19:02:39 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** Reconnecting to 192.168.1.82:6667… ** You have joined #7thsea ** You are now disconnected (Ping timeout) ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Tuesday, 14 September 2021 19:11:26 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** Reconnecting to 192.168.1.82:6667… ** You have joined #7thsea (Molly) [18:46] * Molly looks torn, glancing around the room. Again Kai says her name * Morgan looks at Kai (Morgan) shut up will you, she's clearly not interested in hearing you (Molly) **He looks at Morgan** Tut tut, von vould expect better manners from a servant * Molly looks at Kai, then at Morgan, but seems out of her depth (Morgan) Feel free to come and chastise me for it, since you're such a gentleman... unless you're afraid, of course (Molly) K: I vould not injure a man undertaking a long journey (Molly) **People have started paying attention. Kurt comes to Kai, trying to de-escalate it, and Catherine has just joined the room. * Molly takes a different glass of wine from a servant, but despite the drama she seems distracted. * Morgan watches Kai and Kurt, standing very still (Molly) **Kurt is talking quietly to Kai, who seems to be positioning himself to look like he is being reasonable** * Molly moves, walking right past Morgan * Morgan stares at Kai a moment longer before following her out * Molly is just stood outside on the grass, watching the sunset. The evening is already chilly, but she doesn't seem to notice, despite only having on her Montaigne style blue and white dress (Morgan) You should stay out of the cold (Molly) I need to be outside right now * Molly looks at him, then drains the glass of wine * Morgan watches her (Molly) I can't marry him. I just can't! * Morgan blinks (Morgan) who? (Molly) Curtis! (Morgan) why? (Molly) Because in there, I did not think of how it would displease my fiance to see me hold another man's hand (Morgan) no? * Molly watches him, she looks on edge, nervous (Molly) No, I thought only what _you_ might think. * Morgan frowns (Morgan) why? (Molly) **she looks deeply unhappy now* It's obvious, isn't it? The thing I most feared when we returned from Carleon... * Morgan shakes his head (Morgan) clearly not * Molly wraps her arms around her waist, the right still clutching the empty glass. She watches the reddening sky, putting her face in profile. She speaks quietly (Molly) I am in love with you, and I am the stupidest girl in the world because of it. (Morgan) I don't.. I don't see how (Molly) It does not matter how. It just _is_. * Molly still doesn't look at him * Morgan nods slightly (Morgan) what are you going to do? (Molly) I dont know. Most likely I will accept the offer of help with my new ship and leave Tawstock. * Morgan frowns (Molly) I cannot marry him. And I cannot stay. (Morgan) Come with me * Molly looks at him (Molly) That is not going to help me at all! (Morgan) why? (Molly) Because I will not be able to fall out of love with you unless I get away from you (Morgan) that is what you want? (Molly) Of course it is. I do not want to hurt you, and we cannot continue as we have been. There is nothing good that comes from this. (Morgan) I... I dont want you to (Molly) Leave? * Morgan shakes his head (Morgan) come with me... we can work this out (Molly) To Sudlachenburg with all your happy memories? I do not see that will help you at all * Morgan sighs with frustration * Molly sighs too (Molly) I am sorry. If I could have stopped this from happening I would have (Morgan) just... come with me * Molly looks to him (Molly) Why? Why, when you pushed Evie away so hard because she developed feelings for you? (Morgan) because I had no feelings for her * Molly pauses a moment (Molly) If I come with you and call off the engagement my reputation will be ruined. If I go alone I can salvage some of it at least. (Morgan) You... would meet me along the way? (Molly) I don't know * Morgan sighs (Morgan) I do not want to lose you (Molly) The Ship is in Carleon, and I will need to find a crew, and cargo, and learn how to sail. I will have a life to build. Once I have reduced my feelings, we could still remain friends? (Morgan) I... I don't _want_ to be your friend. I want moret than that * Molly watches him, looking a little sad (Molly) You are married. You cannot. You have implied as much in the past. (Morgan) and I could never envisage feeling anything for anyone else... yet I do * Molly frowns slightly (Molly) What is is you _want_, Morgan? (Morgan) I want you. (Molly) In what way? * Morgan frowns (Molly) **overhead the light is rapidly fading from orangey red to a purple* (Morgan) this is difficult. I care for you, have feelings for you... (Molly) Then you want my friendship and proximity (Morgan) yes... and more. * Molly looks mildly frustrated (Molly) What more? I do not know what you wish (Morgan) I... *he almost growls in frustration* I care deeply for you... I want to be with you, for us to be together. (Molly) **from inside the building there is the sound of laughter, but she pays it no heed** (Molly) Until the winter comes, until next year, until you settle in your homeland? You will excuse me, I hope, but this discovery of my failure to prevent my feelings is very fresh and painful to me. (Morgan) _If_ I settle in my homeland, I want you with me. I don't want to be anywhere without you * Molly frowns a little (Molly) You must not feel pressured by my feelings or guilty that I am going to be ending an engagement for it. I will make my way, I do not need your guilt. (Morgan) You don't have it (Molly) I... *she sighs* (Molly) I need to think about it. (Morgan) If thats what you need.... I won't leave until you've decided (Molly) Please, do not think me insensible to the generosity of the offer, but becoming your companion indefinitely will require other doors to become closed to me, and I must be sure I can do that * Morgan frowns (Morgan) as you wish (Molly) Do not take offense, please, I do not wish to hurt you * Molly watches him, nervously chewing her lower lip (Morgan) Then come with me (Molly) You will be offended if I do not? (Morgan) No... I will be upset, but that is not something you should consider as a reason to come with me (Molly) **she watches him** I would be giving up on ever being loved, getting married, or having children... I am sure you can appreciate why it is a decision that must be given thought. * Morgan shakes his head slightly (Morgan) no... you're not. (Molly) Unless you were planning to let me go in a few years, I am. I am young, yes, but eventually I would need to go if I wanted those things. I could not stay forever unless I will sacrifice them (Morgan) You're not understanding me... (Molly) **There's a noise like distant footsteps on gravel** (Molly) Then be plain, please (Morgan) I don't know how... (Molly) You are confusing me, liebes herz. You wish me to understand but you do not wish to explain? (Morgan) because... my feelings for you go beyond just caring for you, about you... (Molly) It is more than Like, but not Love. (Molly) **the footsteps are still distant, but closer* * Molly is too busy watching him to notice the faint sound (Morgan) much more than like... I... think it is love * Molly looks surprised (Molly) I... wasn't expecting that (Morgan) Nor was I... it is... difficult * Molly nods (Molly) I would imagine so (Molly) I am sorry to have put us both in this position (Morgan) You haven't (Molly) **he can hear the faint murmur of conversation from the direction of the footsteps but not enough to make it out yet** (Molly) I should have put a stop to it long before either of us had feelings engaged (Morgan) I think... thats partly what has helped me so much * Morgan looks in the direction of the noise (Molly) That I did not (Molly) ? * Morgan nods (Morgan) How could I start to grow again if I remained shut off from any sort of caring... (Molly) **he can just make out Rebecca walking on Lenton's arm** * Molly nods a little * Morgan motions with his head, talking quietly (Morgan) lets get out of sight, I'm in no mood to be dealing with her * Molly looks around, spotting a little gazebo shielded by bushes, and tips her head in that direction (Molly) There? * Morgan nods, moving towards it * Molly talks quietly "I would not wish to undo that growth by making selfish choices. " (Morgan) What more do you want me to say? (Molly) I don't think I want you to say anything * Morgan sighs, nodding * Molly climbs the steps onto the gazebo, and kneels on the bench to watch through the bushes (Molly) What would you have me say? (Morgan) That you will come with me.. but only if it is what you want, what you decide (Molly) It will be awfully complicated, won't it? * Molly seems to have spotted Rebecca and Lenton, because she stays quite still (Morgan) I would imagine so (Molly) I think I-... *she tilts her head, whispering* what are they doing?! * Morgan looks (Molly) **Rebecca and Lenton are kissing. It isn't much more than light contact, but that close to the monestary is very risky** (Morgan) That surprises me * Molly nods, trying not to giggle (Molly) I dont think I should be seeing this! (Morgan) I dont think anyone should * Molly smiles, watching him instead (Molly) It isnt what you expect to see whilst outside a monestary after sunset * Morgan nods, looking like he's tasted something unpleasant (Molly) They should have found somewhere secluded and private... are you alright? (Morgan) as I said... not something anyone needs to see * Molly nods (Molly) You looked like you had an odd taste in your mouth... * Morgan nods * Molly gets off the bench, coming to stand next to him (Molly) I can do without marriage and carrying children * Morgan nods (Molly) **With his sharp hearing, he can hear Rebecca say "My house in Greenwich which I inherited from my Godfather is near your estate, Lord Lenton" (Molly) I will come with you to Sudlachenburg * Morgan nods (Morgan) you are sure? * Molly nods (Molly) I can do without those things, but I cannot do without you (Molly) **Lenton says "Are you there often?"** (Morgan) likewise (Molly) **Rebecca replies "Always at the beginning of Autumn to visit my Godfather's grave"** * Molly smiles, watching him (Molly) What do we do now, liebes herz? (Molly) **Lenton's reply is too faint to make out, their footsteps growing fainter too** (Morgan) You need to pack. Do you wish to meet me along the way, save reputation? * Molly nods (Molly) Where should I meet you? * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) Name a place. I'll be there * Molly smiles shyly, bringing her fingers to her lips before saying "here?" * Morgan looks slightly confused * Molly blushes (Molly) I was naming a place I wished you to be (Morgan) oh... oh I see (Molly) **She stretches up to kiss him. In reality, he wakes up as Molly climbs back into bed** * Morgan takes a deep breath before speaking quietly (Morgan) Are you alright? * Molly settles back beneath the covers, her bare legs cold where they meet his. She whispers (Molly) I couldn't sleep. I am alright. Are you? * Morgan shuffles until he's sat up (Morgan) Whats on your mind? (Molly) Nothing but frustration from writing you letters. I am fine liebling (Morgan) I see... (Molly) You needn't worry (Morgan) oh? (Molly) I will manage to sleep now, I've had a little cherry brandy (Morgan) what time is it? (Molly) Not long past two * Morgan nods (Morgan) I think I know where we need to search first (Molly) Oh? * Morgan nods slowly (Morgan) Greenwich * Molly pulls the covers tighter around her shoulders (Molly) Why? (Morgan) A dream, naturally (Molly) You went there? (Morgan) No... it was back at the monastery, we overheard her telling Lenton she goes to Greenwich every autumn * Molly nods (Molly) That does sound helpful (Morgan) aye... I hope it was an insight rather than just my mind trying to fill in gaps on its own (Molly) What gaps? (Morgan) gaps in my knowledge... where they'd be, et cetera * Molly nods (Molly) We will just have to see, I suppose. I am just pleased you were not having a nightmare (Morgan) mmmm, it wasn't exactly a wonderful dream * Molly watches him (Molly) Why not, my love? (Morgan) It was... difficult * Molly takes and kisses his hand (Molly) Would to rather write it down instead? (Morgan) I think so... I'm just not in the mood to go through it tonight * Molly nods (Molly) Is there anything I can do to help? * Morgan shakes his head (Morgan) No, not really blossom * Molly nods (Molly) I shall go to sleep and hope to dream of you then, my love * Morgan nods (Morgan) alright blossom * Molly lets go of his hand (Molly) Sleep well, liebling (Morgan) and you my love * Molly closes her eyes, smiling slightly. She's asleep in less than a minute ** You are now disconnected
