* HH and Claudia are chatting together out on Morgan's lawn in the half light * Morgan mutters at them, carrying his coffee * HH holds out his hand for the coffee (Morgan) Get your own (HH) Woke up on th' wrong side of th' bed? * Morgan scowls at him * HH crosses his eyes in response * Morgan looks away sipping his coffee (HH) C: Nightmares? *she tucks her cold hands into her armpits* (Morgan) Not exactly * HH and Claudia exchange a look (HH) Wanna talk about it? Heinzharold will stop being an ass for a bit. (HH) C:* (Morgan) Molly's been getting memories, very slight, of her sister who died when they were young. I know what happened (HH) Y' dreamt it? (Morgan) Sort of (HH) C: that's why you're grumpier than normal? * Morgan nods (HH) C: sure it's real though? * Morgan nods (HH) HH: Molly doesn' know? ** You are now disconnected (Connection timed out) ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Thursday, 29 July 2021 19:34:12 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** You have joined #7thsea (Molly) [18:47] (HH) HH: Molly doesn' know? * Morgan shakes his head (Morgan) she doesn't remember (Molly) C: Is it bad? * Morgan nods (Molly) C: Gonna tell her? (Morgan) I'll have to at some point * Molly shrugs ** You're now known as HH (HH) Depends if she'll remember on 'er own (Morgan) I don't know. Seems some of it is coming back (HH) C: Why haven't her parents told her? (Morgan) Whenever she mentions her sister, David looks like a rabbit about to get run over by a cart (HH) C: Family secret? * Morgan nods (Morgan) I'm not sure she could bear the truth (HH) Tough one. Y' wanna be honest, but y' wanna protect her too * Morgan nods (HH) C: She deserves the truth * HH shakes his head "Not if it's unbearable" (HH) C: **she appeals to Morgan* She's not a child, she's a grown woman * HH frowns "You'd let her suffer for somthin' I presume nothing could be done about?" (Morgan) and when it finally comes out? (HH) Then you tell her you didn' want her upset? (HH) C: Then she hates you for treating her like a child (Morgan) and I justify not telling her because it would upset her? I keep something from her that she wants to know... how do you think she'll feel about that? (HH) I spose (HH) C: Can you tell _us_? (Morgan) Molly and Cecily were playing near a pond, squabbling over a doll... the doll went in the pond, they tried to reach it, Cecily fell in * HH and Claudia both look grim (HH) How old? (Morgan) very young... six maybe (HH) C: She'll blame herself (Morgan) undoubtedly (HH) Where did it 'appen? (Morgan) Tawstock, out the back of their house (HH) She musta seen the pond since? * Morgan shrugs (HH) Possible seeing it would bring it back, bit like some people get about mem'ries from the war * Morgan nods (Morgan) maybe * HH and Claudia both stay somewhat quiet as the sun rises (HH) Wha'ever you decide, we have your back (HH) C: Obviously. * Morgan nods (HH) HH: _I_ dreamt I was a massive rabbit, runnin' through the fields an' chasing carrots on legs (HH) C: *she rolls her eyes* I dreamt Heinzharold stopped talking (Morgan) never gonna happen (HH) C: Sadly * HH shrugs (HH) Someone's gotta be the talker with Captain One Word Answers over 'ere (Morgan) I'm not entirely sure which of us you're referring to (HH) Either... both (Morgan) accurate (HH) **There's the sound of the piano being played in the manor** (Morgan) Someones awake... (HH) Nothing weird to report about the farm'ouse over night, by th' way (Morgan) No massive amounts of creaking, moaning, nothing like that? * HH waves his hand vaguely (HH) Well.. (HH) C: *she looks at Morgan* Farmhouse might be haunted? * Morgan starts to giggle * HH starts laughing too. Claudia gives them a disapproving look (HH) C: Bloody children. (Morgan) Couldn't get us out of there fast enough last night * HH grins (HH) I was on a promise. (HH) C: What? (HH) **she looks genuinely confused* (Morgan) sex... (HH) C: *makes a disgusted face* Do you pair tell each other everything? (Morgan) it was fairly obvious to be honest (HH) Don' need to, we have wives tha' do it for us! * HH grins at Claudia "You should 'ear all the shocking things I get told about our glorious leader's antics!" (Morgan) No you don't (HH) Don't what? (Morgan) you don't hear anything (HH) Don't I? So 's just my imagination then? *he grins* (Morgan) quite (HH) C: How can you be sure? I've seen them whispering and giggling * Morgan shrugs * HH looks pleased to have Claudia on side "yeah, Morgan, how can you be _sure_?" * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) if my wife wants to brag about my prowess, thats not an issue (HH) C: *she laughs* * HH grins (HH) That'd only be fair, as that's what mine does about me! (HH) C: *she rolls her eyes* Pool your knowledge and you might just abouts figure out how to please a woman. * HH laughs * Morgan shrugs (HH) I had tha' figured out a long time ago! Morgan will catch up one day (Morgan) if that makes you feel better, sure... * HH shrugs (HH) I'm good * Morgan nods looking at the horizon (HH) C: *she looks at Morgan* I bet he was always off pestering the followers of the drum? * Morgan nods (Morgan) always (HH) **the sun is fully risen* (HH) Never knew when one of them would be up for an enjoyable e'ening on flirtin'. Better than sittin' with him whilst he was daydreamin' of Sudlachenburg (HH) C: I bet you can't even remember any of those girls * Morgan watches him * HH starts counting on his fingers (HH) Reckon about thirty o' them, by name and camp. Maybe another thirty I'd know them if I saw them. (Morgan) Not many women walk around without their tops covered though... * HH shrugs (HH) Their faces is what I remember, usually jus' before I kissed them. (HH) C: *she looks at Morgan* At least sixty one women have found Heinzharold attractive?! (Morgan) Naivity goes a long way... and he plays the bumpkin really _really_ well * HH and Claudia both laugh (HH) Only got slapped about three times, too (Morgan) They don't like to hit the village idiot (HH) **Claudia is frowning slightly* Why did they slap you? * HH grins (HH) Cos I'd just told them I was saving myself for marriage * HH looks at Morgan (HH) Never did figure out why that drove 'em so crazy (Morgan) There's no hope for you (HH) Don' need hope, I got all the woman I can handle now (HH) C: Where is Inga this morning? Is she helping Molly dress? * HH grins (HH) Nope (HH) C: *she rolls her eyes, then looks at Morgan* Dont you have a solicitor's appointment to get to? * Morgan nods, nudging HeinzHarold (Morgan) go get yourself sorted, need you and Inga to watch Varick while we shout at a solicitor...*he looks at Claudia* You, take a day to relax (HH) HH: *he grins* We'll be ready in... fifteen minutes? * HH goes off, whistling that song about the weary soldier and the maid that Morgan heard Molly sing in his dream ** You're now known as Claudia * Claudia watches him (Claudia) He's soppy, and its disgusting. *she's smiling though* (Morgan) Nice to see him happy aint it (Claudia) Spose so. You get to shout at people, and I have to "relax"? (Morgan) Thought you might like a day to yourself * Claudia shrugs (Claudia) I'll find something to do * Morgan nods (Claudia) **The music stops (Claudia) I'll let Sorgi know you'll be down when Heinzharold has done his marital duty * Morgan nods (Morgan) thanks. I'll see you soon * Claudia jogs off towards the cliff path * Morgan heads towards the house (Claudia) **he finds Molly in the hall, knelt on the floor to tie Varick's boot laces. The lad looks over her head at Morgan ** You're now known as Molly (Molly) V: Morgan! We're going to meet my sort-of-cousins today! (Morgan) yes we are (Molly) V: **he runs to Morgan the moment his boots are finished, hugging his legs* (Molly) V: I found something to show you, I'll bring it down just stay here. (Morgan) alright * Molly watches the boy dash up the stairs from her kneeling position (Molly) He's so excited * Molly looks to Morgan * Morgan nods (Molly) Are you well? You weren't there when I awoke, but it was still dark... * Morgan nods (Morgan) well enough * Molly fidgets her skirts before standing up (Molly) I am glad... though... *she blushes*... I rather missed you (Morgan) oh? * Molly nods (Molly) Mmhmm (Morgan) I'm sorry about that (Molly) It doesn't matter, liebling * Morgan nods (Molly) Did you sleep at all? (Morgan) some, aye (Molly) Did you have nightmares again? (Morgan) No * Molly smiles (Molly) Nor I. *she whispers* we were back in His Grace's stable... * Morgan nods (Morgan) that was rather memorable * Molly smiles (Molly) I hope you will remember it for the rest of your life * Morgan nods (Morgan) I would imagine so * Molly smiles (Molly) Did you dream of something nice like that too? (Morgan) similar (Molly) Oh really? *she smiles. There's a thudding above of approaching footsteps* I would certainly like to hear about that! (Morgan) later perhaps * Molly smiles (Molly) Yes please. (Molly) **Varick runs down the stairs with cupped hands* * Morgan watches him carefully (Molly) **He comes to Morgan, holding his hands out but still closed** (Morgan) what've we got here? (Molly) **he opens his hands, and contained within is a mouse that has been put into a dress from a doll in the dolls house* * Morgan blinks slowly (Morgan) why... why is it in a dress? * Molly looks at it then at Morgan (Molly) V: Because she let me * Morgan nods (Morgan) of course (Molly) V: she can live in my dolls house, and I will feed her cheese (Morgan) and what about the rest of them? (Molly) V: There's other clothes (Morgan) of course (Molly) **The main door opens, and HH holds it open for Inga. Neither looks very disheveled. The mouse is soon freed from her outfit and put in the kitchen, and the manor is left empty as they go to quickly eat and collect papers for the appointment. A smooth sail finds them back in Tawstock where the gossip is at least quieter, and Molly and Morgan go to the solicitors office. ** Morgan has quit (Quit: Leaving) ** You are now disconnected (HH) She won't oppose the sale? (Morgan) Wee've got enough on our plates, and its his property * HH nods (HH) Gonna be hard on her though. You told her about her sister yet? (Morgan) No (HH) Bit much, wi' all this? * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye. I want to bring _that_ up with David as well * HH nods, wiping his hands on his trousers (HH) Sounds like something y' should been told (Morgan) aye. They're probably hiding it so she doesn't blame herself... (HH) She's going to though? * Morgan nods (Morgan) I've no doubt * HH nods grimly (HH) **They arrive to the others where Inga and Varick are playing I Spy. Molly is distracted and just silently watching the boats in the dock. ** Morgan has quit (Quit: Leaving) ** You are now disconnected ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Saturday, 31 July 2021 17:05:58 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** You have joined #7thsea (Molly) **Molly rides in the coach, but Varick rides with Morgan and Inga rides with Heinzharold at Molly's insistence that she is fine alone as she needs to make some lists anyway. The journey is about twenty minutes, and Varick is very excited ** You're now known as Varick (Varick) We are going to meet the children now (Morgan) yes we are (Varick) What if they dont want to play with me? (Morgan) all we can do is wait and see * Varick nods (Varick) How long before we go home? (Morgan) home? (Varick) To the island * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) don't know, we've got a fair bit to do (Varick) But someone will be at the house with me? * Morgan nods (Morgan) of course (Varick) What do you have to do there? (Morgan) some things for David and Martha (Varick) Okay, but I just have to play? (Morgan) If thats what you want to do * Varick nods. The ride is a familiar route to Morgan, and is a road he's taken many times ever since that first day he'd road from Avebury to Tawstock to take up the post of Master-at-arms, the job where he had hoped to finally meet his fate and be able to die. Instead, he met his fate and been able to live. Varick feels solid and content against him. (Varick) **They turn up the driveway and pass by the cows and sheep before reaching the house. It's not much different than in last night's dream of Cecily's drowning sixteen years ago. He can hear children laughing, and Varick fidgets in front of him (Varick) They are having fun already (Morgan) They might be a bit shy... (Varick) I am shy too (Morgan) I know, so it may get a bit quieter while you get used to eachother * Varick nods (Varick) **Molly gets out of the carriage, putting some papers into her bag. She looks more composed now, and helps Varick down. He stays close to her, a hand holding onto her skirts. She holds Morgan's horse stable ** You're now known as Molly (Molly) It sounds like they're here already * Morgan nods climbing down (Morgan) aye (Molly) *James comes out of the main door, his pleasant features breaking into a smile. He comes to hug Molly* "We wondered when you'd get here, little Moll! Pete's gone to the village for food but Caro and Beth are in the kitchen" * Molly hugs him, and he holds out his hand to Morgan "My Lord" * Morgan shakes it (Morgan) You're looking well James (Molly) J: Run off my feet mostly, my Lord. How are you? (Morgan) about the same, actually (Molly) James, this is Varick, our adopted son. He's learnt some Avalonian, but we will translate when we need to. *he crouches down to Varick* Good morning, Varick. My name is James. *Varick still clings to her skirt and looks a little shy but makes a little bow and speaks accented Avalonian* Good morning sir. I am pleased to meet you. *James nods, smiling* Me too. (Molly) **James stands, looking at Molly* You sound a bit Eisen now. * Molly nods a little, glancing at Morgan like she'd like to cling to his trousers as Varick is clinging to her skirts (Molly) I know (Morgan) Par for the course when you spend time in any one place (Molly) *James nods, looking at Morgan* I'll take your horses, Caro will get you all something to drink and the children will come and find you once they hear there's milk for them. * Molly hands him the reins (Molly) **James waits patiently for Morgan to introduce Heinzharold and Inga** (Morgan) James... HeinzHarold and Inga... (Molly) J: *he bows a little* Pleased to meet you (Molly) **HH and Inga return the sentiment and their horse is taken too. James takes them over to the carriage driver * Molly looks at the house a long moment before smiling. "Let's go to the kitchen" * Morgan nods ** You are now disconnected (Ping timeout) ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Sunday, 1 August 2021 17:31:57 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** You have joined #7thsea ** You are now disconnected (Ping timeout) ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Sunday, 1 August 2021 18:46:49 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** You have joined #7thsea (Molly) **Molly leads them round the side of the house and in through the kitchen door that last night he saw the young Martha stood at, a woman less than an hour from being bereaved of the final of ten children she would lose in their childhoods. * Morgan looks round at the garden before heading into the kitchen (Molly) **The kitchen is a large working space with the stove and surfaces to one side, a large dining table to the other crammed around with chairs, and a smaller area by the large fireplace with even chairs. It's a large room and obviously the heart of the home. Morgan has only ever been in the much fancier formal parlour. (Molly) **The two women here are both cooking. The blonde is kneading bread, the brunette who is noticeably pregnant is chopping vegetables. In a wooden playpen, a baby sleeps sprawled out. There's a pause in the work and lots of excitement as Molly is greeted by the two women. (Molly) **HH looks around, smiling. He speaks quietly to Morgan** Reminds me of 'ome. * Morgan nods (Morgan) I thought it might (Molly) HH: A farmer's 'ouse is a farmer's 'ouse wherever you go * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye * Molly comes back to Morgan. She makes introductions with the strict instructions that no titles are needed, first names are fine. (Molly) **Caro, short for Caroline, James' wife, has a pretty face and the prominent blue veining on her upper chest implies that the baby is likely hers. He knows her husband is slightly older than Morgan, but she looks not much older than Molly. (Molly) Beth, short for Elizabeth, the darker one, has the sort of deep tan of a woman who likes to work outdoors and is quite a bit older, likely approaching forty, and older than her husband. She rubs her lower back whilst they're talking. (Molly) B: Pleased to meet you at last. James told us all he knew from meeting you before (Morgan) He's a good man, brave I think (Molly) C: *she smiles at the praise of her husband* He's a _very_ good man (Morgan) did he tell you he threatened me? (Molly) **Caro shakes her head* * Morgan nods (Morgan) with my reputation, at that... told me if I mistreated Molly, he'd be forced to call me out... very impressive. That man would face demons for those he loves (Molly) **Caro blushes, nodding* He would, yes. Tea? (Morgan) please (Molly) **Both women seem charmed by HH when he speaks halting Avalon to praise them, despite the fact he's clearly toned it down quite a bit as well as being limited by the language. Inga seems a little shy, but Molly is immediately pitching in to help with tea and coffee* (Molly) **Beth speaks to Varick, being careful to ask him only very basic questions in Avalonian, and she assures him the children will be in in a minute** (Molly) **Seats are taken up around the big table, and drinks are given. There's biscuits too, but Molly is a little distracted by looking around the room thoughtfully.* (Molly) **HH gestures $she alright?$ (Morgan) $Not sure. We'll see$ (Molly) **Beth sticks her head out of the door and calls to the children to come in for milk whilst Caro picks up the now-awake baby and puts him on her hip. There's a near stampede of small feet and bodies, a cacophony of chatter and demands. (Molly) *the women share the children out among them for introductions. It's a picture of the fertility the Forrester line has yielded, the two women in a sea of small people; seven children and a bump. For the briefest moment, he feels a hint of Molly's broodiness, but her face reveals nothing.* (Molly) **The children are watchful, and bow or curtsey to the unfamiliar grown ups politely* * Morgan bows his head to all of them (Molly) C: This is baby Joseph, he's about half a year old, and then the twins Charlotte and Emily, who are three. (Molly) **The little girls are identical, and have Martha's gingery red hair* (Morgan) ladies... whats your favourite colour? (Molly) **They chorus Blue** * Morgan looks surprised (Morgan) really? Me too (Molly) **The little girls looks pleased about this* (Molly) B: And then there's William who is seven, his Father was my late husband, then Petey who is almost six, Lila is four and a half, Mary is eighteen months, and this one *she pats her stomach* will be along before Prophet's Mass. (Molly) **The children are a real variety of colourings, but all look well-nourished and cared for. Little Mary, who is the same age as Jana was, is as dark as her mother, nothing at all like his own daughter, though the way she moves in precarious wobbly steps is familiar. * Molly smiles at the children, then watches Morgan * Morgan watches Mary a moment before looking away (Molly) I have met tsome of you before, a long time ago. I am Molly, your Fathers' tsister, this is Morgan, my husband, and Varick, our tson. He has been learning tsome Avalonian, but tsometimes he will need you to explain tslowly or find an adult. (Molly) W: We'll help him and keep an eye on 'im (Molly) **William is quite a typical young Avalonian boy, brunette, robust, and has a confidence to him. * Morgan nods (Molly) B: Line up please, children. They line up by age to be given a glass of milk and take a biscuit, but William makes sure Varick gets some first, and takes him over to sit by the fireplace on the floor, all of them in a circle. Lila carries the extra milk for Mary, and Petey holds Mary's hand to keep her steady on the way. Morgan can hear them all wanting to ask Varick things and stumbling their way through the language barriers. * Molly watches them all with a smile, sipping her tea (Molly) **HH reaches past Morgan to get a couple of biscuits** * Morgan blinks before sipping his tea (Molly) [Are you alright, liebling?] (Morgan) [Yes. Just a little... difficult] (Molly) [I'm sorry] (Morgan) [it is what it is] (Molly) **Avoiding the big issue of the sale, Molly gets the wives talking about the children, and then the local neighbourhood. The names and places flow over him. Molly sounds at ease, and that's a relief. HH and Inga are happily keeping an eye to the children and drinking their coffees. The name Daggett catches his attention. * Morgan pays attention (Molly) M: How was the harvest at Goodleigh? (Molly) B: Good he said. After this summer they deserve it up there. * Molly frowns "What's happened?" (Molly) **A tense glance passes between Caro and Beth** C: You haven't heard… Eliza and one of the babies didn't survive the birth. * Molly blinks rapidly, obviously shocked. She shakes her head, frowning deeply (Molly) "But I only saw her back in May… I was going to call on her…" (Molly) B: **she looks over at the children** William, take the children out to play please. Just in the back garden, no farther. (Molly) **A little line forms again, with William holding his youngest sister's hand to support her wobbly steps. Varick looks to Morgan, speaking Avalonian slowly"May I go too please?" * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye... HeinzHarold, would you and Inga go with them? (Molly) **HH nods, offering Inga his arm and they follow the children out. Caro gives Molly a very small glass of brandy** * Molly looks despondent "What happened?!" (Molly) C: Midwife said one was in position, and she came first. The other was a pike breech. He might have stood a chance as a footling, but not a pike. They tried everything to change his position, but he couldn't be moved. Eventually Eliza lost too much blood and she just slipped away. * Morgan nods * Molly subtly wraps one arm around her own waist, a little gesture of self-comfort, eyes sad as she fiddles with the glass * Morgan reaches out and takes her hand * Molly squeezes it with a grateful smile (Molly) B: John was there at the end, with the baby that made it. Eliza chose the name Kathleen. * Molly takes a big shuddery inhale then sighs, nodding "Have you seen John? How is he?" (Molly) B: Pete saw him at the funeral at the end of July, but he doesn't go to town or leave his Father's land now. * Molly nods "I should do something. Send a note, or visit… or something. Is she-... *she swallows hard* … is she buried at the church in Goodleigh? *Caroline nods* * Molly looks to Morgan "I need to go up there, but it would take me an hour even if I don't go to see John." (Morgan) You want to go now? * Molly stands up "Later or another day. If you'll all excuse me, I need to just get some air. I will be back in about ten minutes" (Morgan) [I will wait here until you want my company my love] (Molly) [Thank you] * Molly goes through the other door to avoid the garden, passing through the house itself to go out of the main door ** You're now known as Beth * Morgan sighs (Beth) How long will you be in Tawstock for Morgan? (Morgan) We'll be back and forth for the rest of the week at least (Beth) That will be nice. Will you want to stay here at the house? (Morgan) Possibly, but that depends on Molly. I'm comfortable staying on the island (Beth) It'll be a little squeeze, but we can manage * Morgan nods (Beth) **The six month old starts to grizzle in Caro's arms, and she stands to rock him** Not out at Lundy? * Morgan nods (Beth) C: Noone lives out there, do they? (Morgan) No, not anymore... (Beth) C: Doesn't that make it difficult? **the baby is getting louder** (Morgan) Not really... *he looks at the baby* may I? (Beth) C: *she looks puzzled, like this is very uncommon* If you want to (Morgan) Only if you don't mind... (Beth) B: Maybe men are more involved in childrearing in Eisen? (Morgan) No, not really... (Beth) **Caro hands over the baby. He's quite solid* * Morgan gets him into a comfortable position before offering a finger to the boys hand, speaking quietly (Morgan) Now then little man, what seems to be the problem? You cant be wanting some of my tea? (Beth) **The baby looks a bit surprised, but quietens * Morgan bounces him gently * Beth and Caro smile at each other (Beth) Do you like children, Morgan? * Morgan nods (Morgan) Bit chewy once they're older though (Beth) **They both laugh** (Beth) C: Are you and Molly hoping for some soon? (Morgan) Not soon exactly... we've got a lot to get done before we settle down... safe to say a lot has happened since we left (Beth) All that travelling... far too much for me! (Beth) **Little Joseph pulls Morgan's finger into his mouth (Morgan) thats the easy part, if I'm honest (Beth) **James comes in through the house. He kisses his wife's cheek** Tea, please, love. *he sits down in a chair, then looks to Morgan* watch out, that one bites (Morgan) I may have noticed that (Beth) **There's the faintest feel of a tooth beneath the gum line** (Morgan) Not going to be long before you can peel carrots on that one, is it young man? (Beth) J: Who's upset Moll? She's gone up the hayloft already. (Morgan) She's just been told about John Dagget (Beth) **Caro puts his tea in front of him before sitting back down* (Beth) J: Ah bugger, I was hoping to break that one myself * Morgan nods (Morgan) she wanted a few minutes to herself (Beth) Caro looks to her husband solemnly: Sorry, it came up and I'd forgotten you'd said they were close. (Beth) J: Close as siblings for a long time. Eliza was either here or Molly was down the road at hers most of the time. ** Morgan has quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer) ** Morgan has joined #7thsea (Beth) [20:34] (Beth) J: Close as siblings for a long time. Eliza was either here or Molly was down the road at hers most of the time. (Morgan) I suspect its a bit close to home for her, too (Beth) **Joseph starts nod off* (Beth) Why is that? (Morgan) She was poisoned and haemorrhaged. She nearly died. (Beth) J: **he looks as murderous as one would expect from an older brother** What?! Who?! (Morgan) Its been dealt with (Beth) That's so awful, poor Molly * Morgan nods (Beth) C: How is she now? (Morgan) recovered (Beth) C: Were you there like John was? * Morgan sighs (Morgan) not for as much as I wanted to be. Generally men are shuffled out, but when things looked really dire, I was allowed in, to say goodbye really... but we managed to get through it * Beth looks at Morgan (Beth) I am sorry. I was there when my first husband died, I know it's hard being there when you have to prepare for that ** Morgan has quit (Ping Timeout) ** Morgan has joined #7thsea (Beth) [20:57] (Beth) I am sorry. I was there when my first husband died, I know it's hard being there when you have to prepare for that * Morgan nods (Morgan) yes, it is. Thankfully it did not go down that road * Beth nods (Beth) Very lucky * Morgan nods (Beth) **the baby starts to wake up** * Morgan starts bouncing again gently (Beth) J: I will take her over to Goodleigh if she wants * Morgan nods (Morgan) she wants to, but we'll see how she wants to proceed (Beth) **the baby cries** (Morgan) Oh now little man, do you want your mama? (Beth) J: **he drinks some tea** He's hungry, Caro (Beth) C: *she comes to take him from Morgan, fiddling with the lacing on one shoulder of her bodice* He's hungry most of the time * Morgan hands him over (Beth) *She takes him to a seat, continuing to undo her bodice. Neither Beth nor James seem at all bothered by this* * Morgan picks up his tea (Morgan) You ever been over to Lundy, James? (Beth) **He shakes his head** No. My grandma and grandad did though, before Papa was born. * Morgan nods (Beth) **Caro starts to feed the baby. The back door opens, and Inga is carrying Mary on her hip. The blonde hair, the child's size and little shoes and the simple kitchen catches him off guard a moment * Morgan takes a deep breath, looking at his cup (Beth) **Inga slowly manages the Avalonian to say Mary was asking for her Mama, and hands her over to Beth before going outside again. Beth has to stand to rock the toddler, somewhat awkward around her bump. Mary babbles at her mother, barely understandable. (Beth) J: Why? (Morgan) just wondering. Its where we're staying (Beth) J: *he nods. Beth is quietly talking to Mary, who starts to fall asleep. From outside, there are happy shouts of "Papa!" (Beth) J: *he looks a bit relieved* Here comes Peter, finally gets to do the job of the big brother warning (Morgan) Trust me, you did a grand job (Beth) **Peter comes in, pulled by Lila and Petey, though he also has some string bags of food. He's taller than both James and David, though he is a fairer version of his Father unmistakably* (Beth) P: Go on, back outside and play. **the kids do so. He puts the bags down, then comes and holds out his hand to Morgan** Pleased to meet you, Morgan * Morgan stands, shaking his hand (Beth) P: **He takes the sleeping Mary from Beth, and puts her down in the playpen. Beth then starts dealing with the bags* A moment of your time, please * Morgan nods (Morgan) of course ** You're now known as Peter * Peter leads out through the house and out the main door. He offers Morgan a cigar (Morgan) No, thank you * Peter lights up, surveying the field of cows opposite with a hand casually in a pocket. He's very much like David, as Molly had told him (Peter) It's tradition here for me to warn you to take care of my sister (Morgan) James has already done that (Peter) But that's James. It's on me to do it too (Morgan) If you feel the need, I will not stop you. * Peter nods (Peter) Don't take it personally, I would have told John or whatever that other ones name was the same. It's not because you're Eisen (Morgan) You need to do your duty as a brother... I understand. * Peter blows out smoke (Peter) It's quite simple. If you hurt her or let her get hurt, we will have an issue * Morgan smiles slightly (Morgan) You understand that having any sort of status comes with risks? (Peter) As does having none * Morgan nods (Morgan) I will protect her to the best of my ability * Peter nods (Peter) Where is she? (Morgan) in the hayloft * Peter looks serious (Peter) Already? * Morgan nods (Morgan) she heard about John Daggets wife * Peter grimaces (Peter) Damn. I wanted to tell her that myself, just incase (Morgan) so did James (Peter) How did she find out? (Morgan) Its affecting her more because she got poisoned and nearly died from haemorrhaged (Morgan) it came up in conversation * Peter nods, still serious (Peter) I'll go and check on her (Morgan) She wanted to be left alone * Peter looks at Morgan intently (Peter) Eliza was like a sister to her... (Morgan) I know * Peter folds his arms (Peter) Either you go and check on her, or I will (Morgan) You and I will both respect her wishes. * Peter looks at him, not looking away (Peter) She is my _sister_. (Morgan) which is why you will respect what she wants * Peter continues to watch him (Peter) What has my Father told you about Molly's early childhood? (Morgan) You refer to Cecily? * Peter nods (Morgan) i know what happened * Peter nods again, grimly (Peter) Then you understand why Molly needs to be checked on (Morgan) She has no idea, you realise that? (Peter) Yes. And that is how it needs to stay (Morgan) She's starting to get memories. She'll know eventually * Peter rubs his forehead (Peter) Damn. * Peter scuffs at the dirt with the toe of his boot (Peter) How much do you know? (Morgan) I know exactly what happened (Peter) About the insomnia and the delusions and the silence? (Morgan) No, I don't know about that (Peter) ((He knows of two periods in her life since where she's had quite bad insomnia. 3 weeks between the lodging house and Lady Torrington's after the consumption, and two weeks between him proposing and them leaving for Eisen. She also remembers being given sedatives to induce sleep as a child that didn't work)) * Morgan frowns (Morgan) no, thats not right... she had a bit of insomnia after I proposed, and I know she was given sedatives as a child * Peter motions him further away from the house, towards a haybale near the sheep. He sits up on it, and theres plenty of room for two * Morgan sits (Peter) After Cess died, Molly couldn't sleep more than about a quarter hour without having nightmares. After about a week of it, our parents started giving her sedatives, but they didn't work. Then she started having delusions. We had to take it in turns to stay up overnight and watch over her. (Morgan) lack of sleep will do that * Peter nods (Peter) After a month, they couldn't give her any more sedatives. She stopped talking to us, but she would still sometimes talk to her imaginary friends. Then she stopped talking to them as well, and would just sit with her eyes open, staring at nothing. Doctor Ford said it had broken her mind * Morgan nods * Peter blows out a ring of smoke away from Morgan (Peter) Then one night I was watching her. She'd been sleeping about ten minutes when she suddenly said "I understand. Goodbye". And that was it, she slept for about four or five days aside from being woken and made to drink. But she was never quite the same after Cess died than before. * Morgan nods (Morgan) She's been through a lot * Peter nods (Peter) She couldn't remember any of it. It was like Cess had never existed (Morgan) I see (Peter) Too much risk to tell her. So we all just went on as normal. Up in the hayloft there's a nook that Papa made for her afterwards. We released pretty quick that if she was upset, she'd bolt for the hills before you'd realise she was gone. He made that up there so she knew where to go to be alone (Peter) Realised * * Morgan nods (Morgan) that makes sense (Peter) What has she remembered? (Morgan) little bits... but not much, but its on her mind almost constantly (Peter) I just don't know what will happen if she remembers * Morgan nods (Morgan) I understand your concern (Peter) Does Papa know she's starting to remember? (Morgan) No, not yet (Peter) He should have warned you (Morgan) Yes, he should have, and I shall be discussing it with him (Peter) Look, just... don't turn your back on her. She will need you. (Morgan) I'd be dead if it weren't for her, I will never turn from her * Peter nods (Peter) Some people have bad opinions about people who have a mind break * Morgan scratches his nose (Morgan) some people can mind their own damn business (Peter) Good to know you won't divorce her over it (Morgan) There's a belief that I'm crazy, so at the very least it'd be hypocritical * Peter nods (Peter) Heard a lot of stories when gossip started to spread about you and her (Morgan) oh? such as? (Peter) Beating people, threatening to murder Lady Torrington's guests, beating a courier (Morgan) accurate. (Peter) Mama hinted in a letter about you being married before, she said maybe Molly would want to talk to me * Morgan nods (Morgan) I was (Peter) So was Beth (Morgan) I know, she told me * Peter draws on the cigar (Peter) Love match, it was. Then he died, she had a baby almost 12 months old and an inherited farm. She couldn't manage that by herself * Morgan nods (Peter) Father arranged it all with her Father, off I went. Took a few years for us to end up in love, but we did eventually (Morgan) I'm glad you got there * Peter nods (Peter) We did well enough together without it. Mama seemed to think Molly would benefit from my experience * Morgan smiles slightly (Morgan) I don't think its necessarily required (Peter) That's fine then (Peter) Got any questions about Molly? (Morgan) Not at the moment... I need to think on it (Peter) I'm going in for tea then * Morgan nods (Morgan) I'll check on Molly (Peter) Good idea (Morgan) where is it? * Peter gives him directions, its next to the stable where Morgan has been before * Morgan nods, wandering off towards the barn (Peter) **It's quiet, and smells of recently harvested hay. Theres a solid ladder into the loft part (Morgan) blossom... ** You're now known as Molly (Molly) Up here * Morgan climbs into the loft (Molly) **Theres lots of loose hay. At the far end there's what looks like a little doorway, illuminated by daylight * Morgan heads towards it (Molly) **he will have to crouch, the door is about half his height * Morgan does so * Molly is sat in the little space. The daylight comes from a window that seems to have been put there especially. The wood is all painted in swirls of greens, yellows, pinks and purples. (Morgan) how are you doing? * Molly takes a deep breath (Molly) I want to say I am fine, that my spirit that you love for it's strength and resiliency is unbroken... (Morgan) but it would be a lie * Molly nods (Molly) I am upset * Morgan nods (Morgan) I'm sure (Molly) I just keep thinking of the last time I saw her, and how I didn't even realise it would be the last time (Morgan) Thats generally how it happens I'm afraid * Molly nods (Molly) She wanted to meet you again, remember? She wanted to be able to curtsey to you properly, when she wasn't pregnant any more but... * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye (Molly) I never told her we were getting married, or that I finally had found the true love I had always dreamt of * Morgan nods, taking her hands * Molly squeezes them (Molly) She was too young for this. Its not fair (Morgan) Very little is (Molly) And I am trying so hard not to be angry. But I lost so much time with her. * Morgan nods (Morgan) I know * Molly sighs (Molly) My childhood home, and my childhood best friend, both in a day (Morgan) You know it needn't be both * Molly shifts, lying with her head on his lap (Molly) What are you thinking? (Morgan) I've already said we could buy it... (Molly) But we would not be here to run it (Morgan) They would be (Molly) My brothers? * Morgan nods * Molly nods a little (Molly) We could speak to them * Molly goes quiet before saying (Molly) She knew what was going to happen, didn't she? (Morgan) who? (Molly) Eliza, when she wasn't able to deliver the second baby (Morgan) I expect so (Molly) She knew the first baby will be raised by another woman when John remarries (Morgan) I don't know she'd have thought about it (Molly) Perhaps not... perhaps I think that because I thought that about Varick? * Morgan nods (Morgan) could be * Molly nods (Molly) My heart hurts for John. Despite what he put me through, he doesn't deserve this. * Morgan nods (Morgan) I know (Molly) What can I do to help him, liebling? (Morgan) I don't know. He'll be inconsolable right now (Molly) Will he want to talk? (Morgan) I don't know really. Would you like me to try? (Molly) I... hadn't thought of that. I thought I would go myself. (Morgan) I know, its only just come to mind (Molly) Would it not be too painful for you? (Morgan) If I can help him get through it, it'd be worth it (Molly) I think I would prefer to go myself first * Morgan nods (Morgan) if thats what you need to do (Molly) Will that trouble you? (Morgan) A little, but only out of concern for you (Molly) You wouldn't be jealous? (Morgan) why would I be? (Molly) Because I was betrothed to him * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) you love me * Molly nods (Molly) Utterly and endlessly. I did not and would never love him (Morgan) Then there is nothing for me to be jealous of * Molly nods (Molly) Where is Varick? (Morgan) Playing with the others... * Molly nods (Molly) That's nice, isn't it? * Morgan nods (Morgan) yes it is (Molly) There are lots of children (Morgan) yes there are (Molly) I haven't seen Joseph or Mary before, only the older ones * Morgan nods (Morgan) Joseph is getting his teeth... * Molly smiles (Molly) Is that normal for his age? * Morgan nods (Molly) How are you managing...? * Morgan smiles slightly (Morgan) Inga brought Mary back into the house... it caused me a moment of disquiet * Molly nods against his leg (Molly) I worried her age would make it difficult for you * Morgan nods (Morgan) it is * Molly nods (Molly) Can I help you in any way? Would you prefer to not come here? (Morgan) No, I'll be alright * Molly goes quiet (Molly) We ought to go back to the others * Morgan nods (Morgan) if you're ready * Molly nods (Molly) I am all cried out for now I think * Morgan nods (Morgan) alright my love * Molly leans up, kissing his cheek (Molly) Thank you * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) I did nothing (Molly) You did _everything_... you _are_ everything (Morgan) No, that, my darling, is you * Molly shifts suddenly, kissing him firmly, almost knocking him over with it * Morgan holds on to her * Molly draws away slightly (Molly) We need to go. Now. * Morgan nods (Morgan) very well * Molly swallows hard, forcing herself to move away (Morgan) Come along, I'm sure Peter wants to see you * Molly nods, crawling through the little doorway * Morgan follows her through * Molly takes his hand once they're back down, holding it between both of hers ** Morgan has quit (Quit: Leaving) ** You are now disconnected ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Monday, 2 August 2021 14:30:27 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** You have joined #7thsea (Molly) **Only James and Peter are in the kitchen when they get back. Peter looks her over, then comes to hug her. "Hello, Fireball. You look very smart" * Molly blushes "Thank you. You tshould tsee tsome of the things I am expected to wear for the court occasions!" (Molly) **He lets her go, looking at Morgan** Must cost you a pretty penny! * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) part of being a duchess really (Molly) P: Papa said you were nobility but he didn't say you were a Duke? (Morgan) I wasn't at the time... and actually, I'm only a duke because she was made a duchess (Molly) P: Lady Torrington's only just become a Duchess, and she's a _real_ noble * Morgan glances at Peter (Morgan) mind your manners * Molly winces, looking at the floor (Molly) P: Sorry, just a bit of a shock to find out your sister is a Duchess * Morgan nods (Morgan) I'm sure it is, but by birth or otherwise, she is a real noble now (Molly) P: *he nods* How did it happen? (Morgan) cant really be an ambassador to another country if you've not got a title (Molly) P: *he looks a bit disbelieving* How is _Molly_ an ambassador?! (Molly) *James looks confused too. Meanwhile Molly is edging closer to Morgan subconsciously* * Morgan rolls his shoulders (Morgan) She's an ambassador because the Eisenfurst recognises brilliance when he sees it... * Molly blushes, smiling at him (Molly) That is nice, liebling (Molly) P: What's an Eisenferst? (Morgan) The country is ruled by seven of them, each with a different part of Eisen. They are the highest power in Eisen (Molly) P: *he looks at Molly again* You've ended up a long way from all this * Molly shrugs (Molly) I've ended up happy. That's what matters (Molly) P: You even sound a bit Eisen now * Molly smiles, looking at Morgan (Molly) I do (Morgan) hard not to when its all she hears now (Molly) *James looks at Molly* Let's have some more tea, Moll * Molly nods "That would be nice, thank you" (Molly) **The two men look a bit confused. Molly makes no move from Morgan's side** (Morgan) She said that'd be nice... (Molly) **James looks a little put out: I meant you making it for everyone, Moll. I suppose you have people who make it for you now! * Morgan shrugs * Molly tilts her head "Tsometimes, yes. But I assumed you have handts enough between you two to manage tsuch a tsimple task." (Morgan) usually me * Molly takes his hand with a fond smile (Molly) **They both look shocked by this** P: Beth or Caro always make the tea. * Morgan goes to start making tea (Morgan) times move on gentlemen * Molly rolls her eyes "You would findt your wives much happier if you made the effort to tserve them vonce in while." (Molly) **Their shock intensifies. James starts making the tea grudgingly. Peter looks to Morgan* Does she speak to you like that? (Morgan) You'll get over it when you realise she's right... (Morgan) make the ladies some tea, tell them you thought they'd like some and see how they react... (Molly) **James huffs but gets more cups. Molly takes a seat at the table** (Molly) **Peter sighs, then goes to help his brother. Morgan just hear the whispering** P: She's getting like Mama (Morgan) Thats not a bad thing, gentlemen... but you'll see * Molly looks at Morgan enquiringly * Morgan smiles slightly, winking at her * Molly blushes, smiling (Molly) **The brothers take four cups outside (Morgan) They're said you're getting like mama * Molly smiles (Molly) What thinks you? (Morgan) They're not particularly wrong, it must be said (Molly) Does that trouble you? (Morgan) Not so far * Molly nods (Molly) **The men come back in, both smiling a little. They bring over tea to Molly and Morgan before taking seats at the table too * Morgan watches them (Molly) J: They liked it *he admits grudgingly* * Morgan nods, sipping his tea (Molly) **Peter is the first to ask an important question amid the general exchange of pleasantries* (Molly) P: How are Mama and Papa? * Molly glances at Morgan (Molly) Well, when I last saw them (Molly) P: **he adds more milk to his tea* When are they coming home? * Molly bites her lip, trying to draw the right words together. She glances at Morgan for help (Morgan) [you wish me to tell them and his plans?] (Molly) [Please] (Morgan) They're not... they're staying in Eisen. Davids taken up a position as my fathers estate manager (Molly) **Peter and James look at each other before looking back at him* P: why would they want to do that?! (Morgan) Because they're happy there I suppose (Molly) J: In _Eisen_. Papa hates Eisen. * Molly sighs (Molly) He doesn't. He loves the people there. He has friends there, and a home, and a job that makes him happy. Mama has friends too, and they are very close to Morgan's parents. (Molly) P: How much land does he own there? *he looks at Morgan. There's no cheerfulness there now, he's obviously unhappy about this* (Morgan) None (Molly) P: None?! Not even the land he lives on? * Molly tilts her head thoughtfully but says nothing (Morgan) No, he lives on my fathers land (Molly) P: *he frowns* It makes no sense. Papa is ambitious, why would he settle for so little? * Molly straightens a little (Morgan) I don't know, why would he settle for a secure future, with people who care for him, where he can spend time with his daughter that he spent so long ignoring... (Molly) P: I didn't mean offense. (Molly) It's not "so little". He is the right hand of his Lord. When he goes into the towns under his Graf, the people listen to him. They _respect_ his authority. And my Father-in-law respects him too. (Molly) J: Papa was always ambitious * Molly squares her shoulders (Molly) It is not ambition. They are staying in Sudlachenburg. They want to because they like it there. If you are displeased by that, do feel at liberty to write and ring a tirade over Papa's head, for all it will do you. (Molly) **Both Peter and James look taken aback by this. Molly just looks utterly resolute** (Molly) P: You have become a hard sort of woman, Molly. (Morgan) She's become a confident one (Molly) **James nods at this, but Peter, much as his obstinate father would be, is watching Molly * Molly 's eyes narrow. "How would you even know what sort of woman I am, you haven't seen me since I was barely sixteen. And if I am hard, it is because life made me so when Father cast me out. If you had wanted a gentle, sweet little sister, perhaps you should have done something to help me rather than force me to go begging on the charity of strangers!" (Molly) **There's silence a moment. It allows the laughter of the children outside and the odd theatrical bear-like growls of Heinzharold to be heard. Both men's micro-expressions contain guilt* (Morgan) I see you both feel guilty about that... this is your chance to start over, don't miss it by being rude and obstinate. (Molly) **James nods: Sorry Moll, I should have done something (Molly) P: Me too. But I couldn't have gone against Papa. It could have damaged my reputation too. (Morgan) Thats an awful reason to not do the right thing. (Molly) P: Maybe things are different in Eisen, but here reputation is everything. Perhaps you'd have to be common to understand that. (Morgan) No, things aren't different in Eisen at all... I'd rather have the reputation of doing the right thing no matter what than covering my own backside * Molly shrugs, but Morgan can see she's cross "Don't bother. I don't care to discuss it any further. You both did what you did. I did what I had to. In the end I found the one person who has _always_ put my well-being above anything else. Let's not focus on the past. (Molly) **Not knowing her as well as Morgan, they see this as the matter being peacefully resolved, and move on* (Morgan) Where do you both live? (Molly) **Both tell him, the places are both far enough to mean it would be difficult to get there and back in a day (Morgan) So none of you live here? (Molly) J: We have been going back and forth all summer for Father * Morgan nods (Morgan) what would you be doing if you weren't doing this? (Molly) J: Running our own farms without getting help from our neighbours. It's been a big upheaval to help out so much * Morgan nods slowly (Morgan) Your father wants to sell (Molly) **Neither of them look happy** J: He can't do that! (Morgan) And you can no longer grow potatoes on your farms (Molly) P: Potatoes are fine (Morgan) No, you're not allowed to anymore (Molly) P: why not? (Morgan) oh I'm sorry, I thought since you can dictate what David does with his own property, I could do the same for yours... (Molly) P: But it's always been the Forrester's farm (Morgan) For a long time, certainly (Molly) P: But it's our future (Morgan) why? You have your own farms (Molly) **James mutters* _Your_ future. (Molly) P: That's not the same, we married into them. It's not Sunnyme. (Molly) Sunnymeade* * Morgan looks at James (Morgan) perhaps an idea of what he intends would help? (Molly) **he nods* (Morgan) Some of the equipment to be given to other farmers, but primarily, the funds from this place to be split between David and his children... (Molly) *James nods* That would be better for me at least, rather than getting nothing (Molly) P: But it's where we grew up. It's where our ancestors come from. (Morgan) seven... (Molly) P: Seven what? (Morgan) generations. (Molly) P: That's right (Morgan) About a hundred and fifty years? (Molly) P: More like two hundred * Morgan nods (Morgan) I understand your feelings that it should stay in the family (Molly) J: what about you, how long has your land been in your family? (Morgan) about five hundred years (Molly) P: That's what could happen for my descendants if Papa doesn't sell (Morgan) That is not what he has decided (Molly) P: Everyone just has to put up with his selfish choice then? (Molly) **Both Molly and James look surprised by this** * Morgan smiles slightly (Morgan) You wish to defy his wishes? (Molly) P: I think he should have come home to talk about it himself (Molly) *James frowns* It would be fairer if we all got something. * Molly shrugs (Molly) I would rather it stays in the family, and I don't care about the money (Molly) J: Well you wouldn't, would you? * Molly looks a little hurt by this (Morgan) Let me make you aware that while I am very permissive about most things, rudeness and disrespect to Molly is something I will not tolerate. Am I understood? (Molly) **James and Peter both nod* (Morgan) I'll also point out that you were sniping at eachother when none of you really want the place to be sold, am I correct? * Molly frowns slightly at this (Molly) J: I don't want it sold, but the money would be useful for dowries for the girls when it's time. * Molly sips her tea thoughtfully * Morgan nods, looking at Peter (Molly) P: I want to keep it. I still remember the first day Papa told me that one day Sunnymeade would be mine and my son's * Morgan nods, looking to Molly * Molly is clearly thinking something over, and doesn't look away from her teacup * Morgan looks back to the men (Morgan) she's already said she doesn't want it to leave the family, so sniping at eachother is counterproductive at best, isn't it? (Molly) **They nod** (Morgan) so pack it in (Molly) **They nod again* (Molly) P: Why hasn't he come himself? (Morgan) I don't know. Fair to say we're not best pleased about it, being sent to say his goodbyes without actually knowing it (Molly) P: When does he expect it sold by? * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) instruction was made to the solicitor today * Molly gets up, bringing over the teapot to top up everyone's cups (Molly) J: what if we refuse to do anything unless he comes back himself? (Morgan) Then the solicitor sells it regardless and you get trouble from the new owners (Molly) P: *he shrugs* In that case, my family and I are going home. Let the solicitor deal with finding someone to run the place until its sold (Morgan) Sit down man (Molly) *he does so* * Molly looks to Morgan (Molly) I dare say there must be a way around it? (Morgan) I imagine so, aye (Molly) P: I can't buy everyone out. * Morgan nods, sipping his coffee (Morgan) *tea (Molly) J: I can't afford not to accept the money I'd get * Molly sips her tea (Molly) And I wish to see Sunnymeade stay in the family but I do not have the time to be here to take it on myself * Morgan sips his tea quietly (Molly) **All three of them look to him* (Morgan) What, you expect me to come up with an answer? (Molly) **the men nod* (Morgan) why? You've run this place since your fathers been away, you aren't stupid... (Molly) P: What we need is money. I need enough to buy out James, Molly, and Father's quarters. * Molly looks at Morgan (Molly) How much do you think it will be worth? (Morgan) including the land, 500 guilders, there or thereabouts (Molly) **Peter and James look hopeless** * Molly sips her tea (Molly) So one hundred and twenty five each... * Morgan nods (Molly) P: Even just buying out the three others it's a lot (Molly) J: *he nods* Hell of a lot. 'Scuse my language. (Molly) What would you actually do with the farm, Peter? (Molly) P: We'd move in. The other farm in Bradstock we'd lease out. That was always the plan when Papa passed on anyhow * Molly nods (Molly) So one twenty five for Papa, one twenty five for James. I can do that. (Molly) **They look at Morgan, shocked that she's so casually offering his money** * Morgan sits unmoved, sipping his tea (Molly) P: What would you get in return though? *he addresses Morgan* (Morgan) I don't know, best ask your sister (Molly) P: *he looks uncomfortable* I find it's better to only talk money with men. (Morgan) You find it more comfortable to, not better (Molly) J: It's because women don't have anything but their pin money here ((this would be whatever her husband had given her or she'd managed to save with frugality. It would be a pittance even for gentlemen farmer's wives like Beth and Caro)) (Morgan) Often the case at home, but this is not the usual circumstance (Molly) I can assure you that the money that will fund this is entirely mine. Therefore asking my husband will not help you. (Molly) **They look at her** J: _You_ have two hundred and fifty guilders?! * Molly sips the tea, using the cup to conceal a smile (Molly) I wouldn't have mentioned it if I didn't (Molly) P: I don't know how long it would take to pay you back, and I don't like borrowing money * Molly shakes her head "Not a loan, a gift. You would have Sunnymeade, James would have the money for Charlotte and Emily's doweries... and Father will get what he is owed also. (Molly) P: *he looks at Morgan again* Will you permit your Wife to do this? * Molly 's micro-expression flashes with annoyance, but the rest of her expression is neutral (Morgan) If you don't want it... (Molly) J: It's a good idea, but Moll, it's a lot of money (Molly) I know that. I know what I am doing. I am _good_ at bookkeeping. The things I've been doing this summer you probably would not believe. I have the money, and this is what I want to do. Sunnymeade stays in the family, you get what you need, Papa will get what he wants. Everyone will be happy. (Molly) **Peter and James look to Morgan's approval** (Molly) [I think I will actually scream if they keep doing that!] (Morgan) You are waiting for me to object, or to see if I'll approve of my wife's actions? (Molly) **They both nod* J: Caro wouldn't dream of doing something like this without my permission. P: It would be disrespectful. * Molly sips her tea very slowly * Morgan watches them for a moment before standing up and going to the door, looking outside (Molly) **Heinzharold is under a pile of children clambering all over him (Molly) **the wives are sat on the grass watching. Inga is holding baby Joseph** * Morgan looks back over his shoulder (Morgan) You need to sort it out between you, I'm not going to act as a go between (Molly) **All three nod* * Morgan gets comfy leaning against the jamb, watching those outside (Molly) **The children are having a good time. Mary is a bit left out, too big to want to just be held, too small for the rough and tumble of besting Heinzharold the bear * Molly and her brothers quietly discuss the situation (Molly) **Caro looks in Morgan's direction, then nudges Beth** C: Time to make lunch * Morgan frowns slightly (Molly) **Beth stands, and Caro does likewise. Caro looks at Morgan* Can you ask Inga if she minds holding Joseph whilst we make lunch please? * Morgan nods, doing so (Molly) **Inga nods, looking quite pleased with this arrangement. The other women thank her and go indoors. Mary watches the big children from a safe distance before plopping down on the grass, pulling at her little leather shoes (Molly) **Inga looks at Morgan** How are you? * Morgan smiles slightly (Morgan) managing (Morgan) you are enjoying yourself? * Molly nods, waiting to see if Morgan sits on the grass ** You're now known as Inga (Inga) Heinzharold is good with children (Morgan) thats because he basically is one * Inga smiles (Inga) He has their optimism and cheerfulness. He's not afraid to look foolish too * Morgan nods (Morgan) I've always admired that * Inga nods (Inga) Is Molly alright, she said she was nervous about coming back (Morgan) I think so. They've annoyed her just enough to get her to dig her heels in and not let them push her around. I need to talk to you later about her. * Inga frowns (Inga) Are you two having problems? (Morgan) No no, not at all... something has come up that is going to be potentially challenging for her. I'm going to need your help I think (Inga) Of course (Inga) Is it about whatever upset her in the kitchen? (Morgan) That may be part of it. A childhood friend has died in childbirth, they were like sisters (Inga) Eliza? * Morgan nods (Inga) Oh, poor Molly. That's awful. * Morgan nods (Morgan) there's more to it but this isn't the place to discuss it * Inga nods. Mary stumbles towards Inga, then looks down at Joseph before saying "Bay-bee" * Inga nods, smiling at the toddler "Ja, baby." (Inga) **Mary leans back to stick out her stomach then puts her hand on it, looking to Morgan** Mama, baby. * Inga is smiling, watching them * Morgan nods (Morgan) thats right, mama's having a baby (Inga) **it occurs to him that if Dietlinde had been pregnant, Jana wouldn't have been much older than Mary is now when it became obvious to her that her mother was going to have a baby too (Inga) **Mary goes back to looking at Joseph, stroking his hair with clumsy but gentle hands * Morgan watches her solemnly (Inga) Mary: Shush baby shush (Inga) **Joseph is looking at her but not making any noise. Inga looks quite smitten with them both** * Morgan watches her for a moment (Morgan) you're very good with them (Inga) I: I like children. Can you ask her if she is excited about her new baby? (Morgan) Mary... are you excited about the new baby? (Inga) **She looks at him, smiling* Love the baby * Morgan nods, translating * Inga smiles warmly "Isn't that so sweet?" * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye, it is (Inga) **Heinzharold has escaped the older ones who are playing tag now, and crawls over towards them making bear noises. Mary squeals when she sees him, bouncing on the spot, not quite able to jump but getting close. It's the exact stage Jana was at too, but Mary will one day be able to...* * Inga laughs "he's so funny" * Morgan nods shortly, looking away (Inga) **This has obviously caught HH's attention as even in bear mode he makes a slight whistle then gestures $alright?$ (Morgan) $its difficult$ (Inga) $Jana?$ * Morgan nods slightly (Morgan) $Would've been Mary's age$ (Inga) **HH gets up, briefly ruffles Mary's hair and then says to Inga "Back in a minute, Pidge" ** You're now known as HH (HH) I want to have a look at the 'orses David has in his barn, show me the way? * Morgan nods, getting up * HH starts whistling casually, letting Morgan lead the way * Morgan heads towards the barn * HH waits til they're in there and out of sight before pulling him into a brief bear hug (HH) I shouda realised (Morgan) Had a bit of a hit to the chest when Inga carried Mary inside earlier * HH nods (HH) Inga's a bit more _golden_ blonde than Dietlinde was, but I see what y' mean * Morgan nods (HH) Anything we can do t' make it easier? (Morgan) I don't think so, no * HH nods (HH) Bad timing * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye (HH) How's e'erything else? (Morgan) Few issues. Got a bit more background knowledge about Molly's sister, but thats for a later conversation, away from her * HH nods (HH) Been doing some recon of the brothers? (Morgan) been watchin' em (HH) What do y' make of them? (Morgan) James is a good man... Peter... not entirely sure yet (HH) Wives are nice * Morgan nods (Morgan) not sure what to make of me, mind (HH) Jus' like the rest o' us then * Morgan nods, smiling slightly (HH) Obviously they think I'm goooooorgeous (Morgan) naturally * HH nods (HH) They're Avalonian but they're not blind (Morgan) the children adore you * HH nods (HH) I'm adorable * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) if you say so (HH) You're likeable, in yer own way (Morgan) I suppose so (HH) Who is this Dagger guy? (Morgan) Dagget... he was the one she was betrothed to before she got sick * HH nods (HH) He causin' trouble about it? (Morgan) No, his wife died during childbirth... she and Molly were extremely close growing up (HH) *he looks concerned* Molly alright? (Morgan) no... brings up some worrying throwbacks to the past, but I don't have time to go into it now (HH) Claudia would slap me if I didn' ask wha' the hell you're doing out here rather than being with her right now (Morgan) They're working something out... its important for them to do it themselves * HH nods (HH) Still taking the Ketch back to Morgan's Rock this evening? (Morgan) I don't know. Molly might want to spend some time going to see Dagget (HH) Her ex-fiance? * Morgan nods (HH) He gonna be pleased to see her? (Morgan) He won't be pleased to see anyone right now (HH) You'll let her go anyway? (Morgan) If thats what she needs to do... (HH) Ever met 'im? (Morgan) held a sword to his throat once (HH) This sounds entertaining **he leans against the wall* what did he do? (Morgan) he wanted to talk to Molly, I didn't like the idea and when he upset her I made it known I would not tolerate it (HH) Left it in a bad note then? * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) he abandoned her when the rumours started when she got sick * HH nods (HH) Inga mentioned about tha'. Said Molly nearly died. * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye (HH) Ended up in a lodging 'ouse near the dock (Morgan) thats right (HH) Lucky she didn't end up in a worse place than tha' like so many girls do * Morgan nods (Morgan) indeed (HH) Ever meet his wife? * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye, once (HH) Nice? (Morgan) sweet girl, clearly adored Molly... had no idea that she and Dagget were together in the past * HH nods (HH) Prob'ly better that way (Morgan) whether or not he told her, I don't know (HH) Aye. Can't help but feel bad for 'im though. What happened to the baby? (Morgan) one survived, the second didn't (HH) That gonna make it easier or harder, y' reckon? (Morgan) I really don't know (HH) Think Molly will just show up on 'is doorstep? **This reminds him of a dream he had weeks ago where he was wearing Madchen in a carrying cloth, having lost Molly to a difficult birth where she bled out, and him turning up on Dietlinde's doorstep asking about a christening gown* * Morgan frowns (Morgan) possibly. I just don't know (HH) Want me t' go with her? * Morgan nods (Morgan) I'll go see him at some point (HH) Think you can 'elp? * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) I don't know (HH) It's enough to put y' off having children forever. * HH shudders (Morgan) having seen Inga today, I don't think thats likely (HH) She'd smuggle that little one 'ome if she could * Morgan nods (Morgan) she seems rather taken with Mary as well (HH) Inga wants a big family. Like enough to give you an' Molly some competition * Morgan nods (HH) Best be gettin' back before she sticks them all in the coach to take back to Koertig kingdom wi' us * Morgan nods (Morgan) best had, aye * HH claps him on the shoulder (HH) You gonna be alright? (Morgan) I'll manage * HH nods. He starts whistling the song about the peaches and cream then starts grinning ** Morgan has quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer) ** You are now disconnected (Ping timeout) ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Tuesday, 3 August 2021 13:42:19 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** You have joined #7thsea (Molly) **Everyone is already eating when Morgan and HH get there. The atmosphere is fairly relaxed, and once the meal is finished the children go back out to play, including Varick. The two littlest ones are put into the playpen asleep. (Molly) As the afternoon goes on, the siblings reminisce indoors whilst the wives and the Eisen-born visitors sit in the uncommon September sunshine and watch the children. (Molly) Varick seems to be forgoing his regular nap, and comes to ask Morgan how to say things, and soon the other children come to ask him how to say things to Varick in Eisen too. They all seem to be getting on very well. (Molly) Beth and Caro are both working through a pile of sewing, and with Morgan translating this too, Inga gets involved in fixing and darning children's clothes. This gives Morgan chance to get to know his sisters-in-law ((I'm assuming he would have some curiosity and questions?)) (Molly) **They both seem like devoted wives, though nothing like as adoring as Molly is of him. Neither appears to have been a love match. About half an hour later, from inside the house there's the crying of Mary, which for a split second is so familiar a sound** * Morgan takes the opportunity to look around at the horizon (Molly) **in the distance almost due north is a wooden fence and behind it a glittering of sunlight on water (Molly) **He hears Molly talking soothingly to her in Eisen, and the crying settles a little. Her mother is busy playing with her older three children. * Morgan heads inside to help (Molly) *Peter and James come out together, looking, presumably, for more women to do things for them. They aren't far past the doorway when Molly starts singing Kosk Yn Ta to Mary. Morgan can see how they both pale. (Molly) P: **he looks to Morgan, speaking in not much more than a whisper** Mama used to sing that one with Cess to her. Then Moll told her one day she never wanted to hear it again. Mama never sung it again to any of us, or the grandchildren. * Morgan nods (Morgan) she started singing it recently (Molly) **James looks sad* She will remember, won't she? (Morgan) I think so (Molly) **behind them, the crying resumes (Morgan) One of you pick her up, would you (Molly) P: She's fine with Moll (Molly) **More singing, in Eisen this time, a lullaby Morgan has sung to Molly himself, and the toddler quietens once more * Morgan nods (Morgan) alright (Molly) **They come past him out into the garden and the sudden swarm of children crying out "Papa!" excitedly * Morgan heads inside * Molly is holding the little girl to her, the dark red hair obscuring the little face. Molly doesn't notice him, only singing this lullaby and swaying with the toddler. * Morgan leans against the door, watching her * Molly continues to sing and soothe, and despite the movement there's almost a stillness to her and what he can see of her expression * Morgan speaks quietly (Morgan) how are you doing blossom? * Molly nods (Molly) I am holding up (Morgan) good (Molly) And you? *she glances back at him, holding the familiar size of the toddlers form firmly to her (Morgan) managing (Molly) We must leave before long, there are things I must attend to before we sail (Molly) **The lack of singing makes Mary start to cry again** (Morgan) such as? (Molly) I must make an appointment to see Mr Jeffries and the solicitor (Morgan) You came to an agreement then? * Molly nods (Molly) We did *she gently hushes the child** (Morgan) good * Molly nods (Molly) I am happy with it (Morgan) good. You sure thats what you want to do? * Molly nods (Molly) I am (Morgan) HeinzHarold has offered to go with you to see John Dagget (Molly) I would rather go alone (Morgan) I don't think thats a good idea (Molly) Why not? **she moves the child to the other side resting her cheek on Mary's crown (Morgan) Because its going to be distressing for you. Even if he only accompanies you there and leaves you to speak with him alone, it'd be preferable to you going alone * Molly glances at him (Molly) It is a command? (Morgan) If needs be (Molly) That I will accept it * Morgan nods * Molly starts singing again to the increased fussing of the child (Molly) Tomorrow then, to see John (Morgan) alright (Molly) It's about four miles from here * Molly strokes Mary's back gently (Molly) Will that be alright with you? ** You are now disconnected (Connection timed out) ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Tuesday, 3 August 2021 19:26:49 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** You have joined #7thsea * Molly gently strokes Mary's back (Molly) [18:26] (Molly) Will that be alright with you? * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye * Molly nods, returning to singing once more (Molly) **Varick is quite put out when it is time to leave, and he looks like he might even become wilful about it. The promise of being allowed to return tomorrow wins him over, and he hugs all of the children goodbye before getting into the coach. Molly and Inga get in with him, so Morgan has just Heinzharold for company on the twenty minute ride. ** You're now known as HH * HH rides one handed, eating an apple with the other. The sun has gone behind the clouds, but it doesn't look like it will rain (HH) Reckon Varick had a good time (Morgan) certainly seemed that way (HH) He'll pick up Avalonian quick around them * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye, I've no doubt * HH tosses him a second apple (HH) Not as good as from 'ome, but they'll do * Morgan bites into it, nodding (HH) This a good time to talk? * Morgan drops back a bit further from the coach * HH does likewise (HH) Serious then * Morgan nods (Morgan) very (HH) Go on then (Morgan) When she lost her sister, she stopped sleeping and started having delusions. The doctor at the time said it broke her mind * HH frowns (HH) But she seems really normal (Morgan) apparently after that she changed. But she completely blocked all of it out eventually, after much talking to imaginary friends that I suspect was her sister (HH) Think she could see ghosts like Varick? (Morgan) Maybe (HH) You had no idea about any o' this when you married her? * Morgan shakes his head (HH) She doesn't know any of it? (Morgan) No, not consciously (HH) Think it will happen again if she remembers? (Morgan) I don't know. They're convinced it will (HH) Sounds like they're scared * Morgan nods (Morgan) I'd say so (HH) You? (Morgan) I'm concerned * HH nods (HH) What do y' want Inga and me to do to help? (Morgan) I think she's going to remember whether I tell her or not... She's going to need support and watching * HH nods (HH) Inga and I will do whatever you ask * Morgan nods (Morgan) thank you (Morgan) She's going to see Dagget tomorrow * HH nods (HH) That risky for her memories? (Morgan) potentially. I've told her you'll be going, even if you don't go inside * HH nods (HH) Understood (HH) You don't want to go y'self? (Morgan) Given that the last time I saw him I scared him a lot, I think that'd be a bit... cruel * HH nods (HH) Eisen conflict resolution, it's not for everyone. (Morgan) It was appropriate at the time... I understand the pain he's going through, though, and my turning up could either help him or have him fly at me... I wanted to die, there's a good chance he does too, and I'd rather not be the cause of that (HH) Don't take it on yerself either way. If Claudia an' I couldn't stop you feeling that, there's no chance _you_ can stop him (Morgan) No, I know. I'm _hoping_ I can help him in some way, even if its just understanding * HH nods (HH) You could get Molly to put it some feelers with 'im tomorrow * Morgan nods (Morgan) we'll see (HH) You gonna keep her away from the farm incase it brings back the memories? (Morgan) I don't see that I can, realistically * HH nods (HH) Keep her busy at Morgan's Rock? * Morgan nods (Morgan) have to see what I can get her doing (Morgan) she's going to have to know (HH) That you're keeping her away on purpose? (Morgan) what happened (HH) Big risk though (Morgan) She's remembering anyway (HH) You're gonna tell her then? (Morgan) I'm going to have to I think * HH shrugs (HH) Up to you * Morgan nods (Morgan) I know (HH) Difficult. You dont wanna hurt them, but you dont wanna keep secrets either * Morgan nods (Morgan) especially when those secrets are starting to surface on their own * HH nods (HH) If it was me, I'd wait an' see what happens with this Dagget guy, give her time to deal with that a bit first (Morgan) oh I plan to. I want to drag some information out of David before I do anything else (HH) With her magic mirror trick? * Morgan nods (HH) Bad though. After she's been through all that they kick her out o' home for no good reason * Morgan nods (Morgan) too concerned with looking bad (HH) His own daughter... its disgustin' * Morgan nods (HH) You'll tell her but not yet then? * Morgan nods (Morgan) I think so aye * HH nods (HH) How is she doin' about the sale? (Morgan) She seems happy enough now they've come up with a way to keep it in the family (HH) That's good. Nice lookin' place * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye it is (HH) You buyin' it? (Morgan) No... she is * HH nods (HH) The brothers happy with that? (Morgan) She's giving it to one of them, so yes (HH) Unusual. Most would keep it if they're payin' (Morgan) We're too busy to run it, James could do with the money from the sale, Molly wants it to stay in the family, Peter wants it * HH nods (HH) If she can afford it, why not, he? (HH) Eh? (Morgan) indeed (HH) One less thing to deal with at least * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye, you're not wrong there (HH) How are you? (Morgan) I've been better (HH) Fancy a poker tournament tonight, try to take your mind of it all? * Morgan nods (Morgan) sure (HH) Blokners too * Morgan nods (Morgan) definitely (HH) Not so much that I start singin' at Inga though (Morgan) No, I don't think we'd want to do that to her (HH) I'd just blame you though (Morgan) nowt new there * HH nods, finding another apple in his pocket (HH) Molly be alright alone for the evenin'? * Morgan shrugs (Morgan) maybe ask Inga to be with her? * HH nods (HH) Alright. Claudia will want to join us, Cap'n too I reckon * Morgan nods * HH nods too. Between bites of the apple, he sings the song about the Trooper and the Maid that Morgan dreamt Molly was singing in the camp at Johstadt last night ** Morgan has quit (Quit: Leaving) ** You are now disconnected ------------------------------ Logging started for 192.168.1.82:#7thsea on Wednesday, 4 August 2021 17:54:44 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** You have joined #7thsea (Molly) **The ride goes smoothly. They set up appointments for tomorrow morning with both Jeffries and the Solicitor. On the docks, they find the Ketch where they left it, the crew looking cheerful and having found some good food at the stalls. The sea is calm, which gives Molly time just to stand and stare at the horizon silently whilst Varick talks Morgan's ear off about the children and wants to know even more Avalonian. (Molly) **They arrive back to the Island easily. Once they've all been fed on the Rose, they decide it's easier to all spend the night there as it's closer for setting sail early. Molly puts Varick to bed, saying she's probably going to turn in herself, leaving Morgan and HH to the card game with Sorgi and Claudia. * Molly smiles at him, coming out of Varick's room "I hope you have a good (Molly) m "I hope you have a good evening, my love" (Morgan) not bad... (Morgan) You will be alright? * Molly nods (Molly) I will * Molly starts removing her boots (Molly) Is there anything you need from me before you go? (Morgan) No, I don't think so * Molly nods (Molly) And you are alright? * Morgan nods (Morgan) I'll manage * Molly offers her hand to him * Morgan takes it (Molly) I dont want you to manage, my love. I want you to turn to me if you wish for support (Morgan) Its been a difficult day, thats all, but I'll be alright * Molly kisses his knuckles (Molly) Perhaps it would be easier if you were to stay here whilst I go to Sunnymeade? (Morgan) No, I'll be alright * Molly mods sadly (Molly) If you decide you wish to talk about it, I am here, as always * Morgan nods (Morgan) I know blossom * Molly squeezes his hand a moment before loosening her grip (Molly) Wake me if you wish * Morgan nods (Morgan) alright * Molly lets go, undoing her other boot (Molly) Have fun * Morgan nods, smiling, before heading out the door ** You're now known as Claudia * Claudia and the others already have drinks and cards ready in the dining room when he gets there (Claudia) Finally! (Morgan) Been lonesome without me today I see * Claudia snorts (Claudia) Just ready to play * Morgan nods, sitting down (Claudia) **Sorgi deals* It's been quiet without you, m'lord (Morgan) oh? (Claudia) S: Got some work done sprucing up the fisherman's cottages (Morgan) well done (Claudia) S: How was your trip, m'lord? (Claudia) **cards are swapped and dealt* (Morgan) illuminating. When I get my hands on David Forrester, I'm going to ring his neck * Claudia passes him a tankard of blokners (Claudia) What's he done? * Morgan takes a large mouthful (Morgan) He's selling the family farm... hasn't bothered to tell anyone, and is basically using Molly to say his goodbyes * Claudia nods, laying down her cards (Claudia) Wringing his neck sounds good * Morgan nods (Claudia) S: How is she taking it? (Morgan) Now she's gotten herself a plan for it, very well (Claudia) S: Good for her * Claudia wins the hand (Claudia) Got a lot more to do before we sail again? (Morgan) Got the surveyor coming here, got to see Lady Torrington, finalise the plans for the farm... (Claudia) Several more days then (Claudia) S: M'lord, have you thought about giving the men a day on shore? (Morgan) I've thought about it, aye (Claudia) HH: Not sure 'ow that would go down (Morgan) The townsfolk have issues with Eiseners, thanks to Dau and his crew (Claudia) S: Might be better in the other port town nearby, m'lord? * Morgan nods (Morgan) I'd hate for their relief and boisterous behaviour to be the spark that lights that fire, if you know what I mean (Claudia) S: *he nods* that is wise (Claudia) I don't mind going to keep them in line * Morgan nods (Claudia) **HH laughs* Can't imagine much more off-puttin' than having her hanging over you in certain places! * Claudia punches him in the arm (Morgan) saw that coming (Claudia) S: *he watches them, drinking some blokners* Let me know what day is best, m'lord (Morgan) I've no real preference, as long as we've got enough to sail the ketch to get us to the mainland or the surveyor here (Claudia) S: I'll have a think then, m'lord * Morgan nods (Claudia) S: Did Varick enjoy the farm? (Morgan) He loved playing with the other children (Claudia) S: These are Molly's sibling's children? * Claudia takes her turn to deal, playing quietly whilst they talk * Morgan nods (Morgan) aye (Claudia) S: How many of them? (Morgan) seven of varying ages with one on the way (Claudia) HH: Felt like seventy when they were climbin' all over me! (Morgan) They loved that (Claudia) That's because he's just a giant kid himself (Morgan) thats what I said (Claudia) HH: Kids don' like Claudia cos she's old and grumpy (Morgan) So why do they like me? * Morgan scratches his nose before laying down a flush (Claudia) HH: *he shrugs* Poor judge of character. * Claudia and Sorgi laugh at this * Morgan nods slightly (Claudia) **the others have poor hands and he easily wins** (Claudia) HH: They liked Inga too though * Morgan nods (Morgan) She was very taken with all the children (Claudia) She'll be wanting some soon, knowing women. Can you imagine some miniature Heinzharolds running around? (Claudia) **HH who would normally make a joke just drinks deeply from the tankard in his hand* (Morgan) Yes, every single child is like a miniature HeinzHarold * Claudia laughs, giving the cards to Morgan to deal * Morgan does so (Claudia) *HH shrugs* Stuff to do. Don't wanna raise kids on a ship any'ow * Claudia looks at Morgan as if to ask what HH's issue is * Morgan appears to think of something, digging in his pocket * Morgan takes the balm from his pocket, sliding it across the table to HeinzHarold (Morgan) smell that (Claudia) **He does** smells like apples and smelting metal (Claudia) **Claudia and Sorgi both look interested by this** * Morgan nods slightly (Morgan) alright (Claudia) **HH looks it over** What is it? * Morgan gestures to have it back (Morgan) its something I was given to help relax me... (Claudia) **He hands it back* does it work? * Morgan nods (Morgan) doesn't smell of apples though (Claudia) **He shakes his head** no, it does * Claudia and Sorgi exchange knowing looks * Morgan smiles slightly (Morgan) I'm sure our compatriots will agree with me (Claudia) Doesn't smell like apples (Claudia) S: No (Claudia) **HH frowns** How does tha' work? (Morgan) search me... I got it from some people of diminutive stature (Claudia) HH: Nieblungen? * Morgan nods (Claudia) **they start getting into the game. There's not much to tell between them all in skill, and the tankards get frequently topped up. By the time Eleven o'clock is approaching, HH is already a bit drunk. Claudia and Sorgi are relaxed ((how much will Morgan have drunk?)) (Morgan) ((not much)) (Claudia) **HH stands up** I'm goin' t' m' bed (Morgan) not a bad idea (Claudia) HH: M' wife says if I'm there 'fore 'leven, I can sing t' 'er * Claudia gives Morgan a look of disgust "We didn't need to know that, did we?" (Morgan) You know he does actually mean sing to her, right? (Claudia) **HH starts chuckling** No, she's right * Morgan rolls his eyes (Morgan) When she hits you, remember I tried to stop it (Claudia) HH: She won' 'it me * Morgan looks at Claudia * Claudia smiles (Claudia) Five guilders says she does * Morgan shrugs (Claudia) HH bows floridly, almost falling over himself: G'dni' all (Morgan) G'night * Claudia and Sorgi bid him goodnight and watch him go at speed out of the door. Claudia shakes her head (Claudia) I dont know how she puts up with him (Morgan) She's smitten (Claudia) Yuck * Claudia shuffles the cards (Claudia) You in again, or do you have a special curfew too? (Morgan) One more hand (Claudia) **They play it through, and Sorgi wins this time* (Morgan) Right then, if you'll both excuse me... * Claudia and Sorgi swap the deck over with an obvious intention to keep playing, and both say goodnight * Morgan heads to his rooms ** You're now known as Molly (Molly) **It's completely dark and quiet in the study, and in the bedroom there's only a hint of moonlight and Molly's sleep-breathing * Morgan quietly preps his tea and herbs and drinks it quietly before going into the bedroom * Molly has a shirt on when he slips under the covers, and he can tell from the rougher fabric that it is one of his * Morgan smiles before settling to sleep (Molly) **He falls asleep quickly. He's dreaming, and stood in a little church on the estate of Frau Posen, just four days after his proposal at the ball. With friends like this, a special license and a slight delay in his missions was easily achieved. (Molly) There's only him, Heinzharold, a priest, and the Duke of Anhalt present. His own Father will just have to understand that with orders coming soon, he must marry her now before he has to leave again. All the financial arrangements have been quietly completed without the couple's input, and he really doesn't care. All he cares for is her. (Molly) **HH is newly arrived from Sudlachenburg, still in travelling clothes, and is quietly talking away as they wait for Molly and David to arrive** Weird little people. Two of 'em just turned up one mornin' as I was walking from my house to hers. (Morgan) who? (Molly) The Nieblungen ** You're now known as HH (Morgan) dont be so daft (HH) Honestly! Ruined m' plans for the day. I was gonna take her to pick some apples at Greta's place. (Morgan) What did they want? (HH) Told me I 'ad to get here as quick as I could. Even gave me that 'orse outside. Shouldn' be possible to cover th' ground we did in only four days. (Morgan) thats just bizarre (HH) Didn' leave without sayin' g'dbye though, that'd be rude. *he grins* (Morgan) of course (HH) **he shows Morgan a necklace on a leather thong from under his shirt. It's two circles of glass sealed with melted metal, and a flaxen blonde swirl of hair within it.* (Morgan) thats not bad (HH) Made it meself (HH) *this reminds him of the braid starting at his crown where a plait has been weaved of dark red hair into his brown, and how Molly has the reverse of it* (Morgan) Very good for your sausage fingers * HH goes to say something, but (HH) the music starts, an organ version of their Allemande á Dieu, which they chose for her to walk in on. * Morgan stands up straight (HH) You sure about this? Y' 'ave only known her eight months * Morgan nods (Morgan) I'm sure (HH) **She comes in on her Father's arm, her borrowed dress from the Eisenfurstin in ivory satin far fancier than a hurried ceremony with only five people really warrants, but it's beautiful nonetheless. She's carefully watching in front of her so she doesn't trip * HH looks impressed, whispering "I can see why yer sure" * Morgan nods (HH) *she smiles up at him when David brings her to him, the matching braid to his not obscured by any veil or decoration* (Morgan) Well now, dont you look beautiful (HH) **She blushes and smiles** You also. Handsome, that is. (Morgan) Not beautiful? I suppose I can live with that * HH watches them with amusement (HH) M: Oh! I wasnt sure if you could use beautiful for a man in Eisen, it's not what we say in Avalonian, but of course you know this, so I thought handsome more fitting, but if you so not like it I can try again **she rattles through this, obviously a bit nervous** (HH) Do* * Morgan smiles (Morgan) don't fret at it. This is HeinzHarold * HH bows deeply to her "My Lady" (HH) **She smiles at him** So you are the one I have heard so much about. I am very pleased to meet you at last (HH) **The priest clears his throat. Molly speaks quietly to Morgan as they move into position* Would it be awfully unseemly for a young lady to say that her future husband is the best thing that has ever happened to her? * Morgan shrugs ever so slightly (HH) **The ceremony starts in the usual fashion with David handing Molly over and moving out of the way. It is when the priest gets to "Repeat after me, 'I, Morgan Adalbrecht Koertig, take thee Molly Isabell-" that the chapel door slams open, and Sebastian storms in. (HH) S: Stop! Don't do this, Molly! * Morgan turns to glare at the interloper * HH whispers to Morgan (HH) Who is this guy? (HH) **A look passes between David and Duke Ascania* (Morgan) Someone who thinks he has a claim to Molly I suspect (HH) Does he? (Morgan) Not as far as I'm concerned (HH) M **she watches Sebastian a long moment** Seb, you are interrupting. (HH) **Sebastian moves closer** Molly, I love you. I could make you happy. * HH gestures $I could knock him out$ * Morgan shakes his head slightly (Morgan) Sebastien, give it up (HH) M: Maybe you could make me happy, but not _as_ happy. I love you, but like family. I'm not in love with you like I am with him. (HH) **Ascania lays a hand on Seb's shoulder* Come on, she's made up her mind and this works nicely all round (HH) S: *He angrily throws it off* Yes, convergence and destiny and all that nonsense. Did it never occur to you that you're playing with people's feelings and lives?! We aren't just pawns in a chess game! (HH) **Molly looks utterly confused* * HH gestures again $has his mind broken or summat? What's he rantin' about?$ (Morgan) $No idea$ (Morgan) what the hell are you babbling about? (HH) **Seb tries to answer, but both David and Ascania start strong-arming him out of the chapel, locking the door behind him * Morgan watches them (Morgan) oh there's something strange going on there (HH) Damn right (HH) Priest: *he looks to Morgan** Are you ready to continue? * Morgan looks at Molly (Morgan) ok? (HH) **Molly nods, taking a deep breath** Yes * Morgan nods before nodding at the prist (HH) P: Repeat after me, "I, Morgan Adalbrecht Koertig, take thee Molly Isabell-" **he abruptly wakes up in their bed on the Rose** * Morgan frowns, getting his bearings (HH) **He estimates he's been asleep less than an hour. Molly is murmuring very quietly in her sleep** * Morgan listens (HH) **Beside him, Molly slowly says in Avalonian free of Eisen lilt "Yes. And I _do_ trust you" ** You're now known as Molly * Morgan stays still * Molly fidgets a little, words still quiet sleep talking "Oh! Wow... that's... mmm" * Morgan tries to read her (Molly) **Molly is half-reclined on the couch in his room in Carleon where they first stayed. He is kissing her collarbone and has his hand beneath her dress, petticoats and soft, applying gentle pressure to the most intimate parts of her** * Morgan smiles to himself, drawing away from her thoughts * Molly continues to make little noises of pleasure, but unsurprisingly doesn't have any more words * Morgan tries to go back to sleep (Molly) **He almost drops the half-empty whiskey bottle that dangles in his hand off the side of the chaise. The room is warm, he always keeps the Veisgraf's wing warm, for Jana's sake. (Molly) His shirt is open most of the way down, his waistcoat discarded when he also gave up on using a glass to consume the amber liquid he hoped would bring oblivion yet again to swig directly from its container. (Molly) He's doing a good job of getting blind drunk tonight, having started outside during the loud festivities of Edward's polterabend. (Molly) He had to imbibe with secrecy there in a way he didn't in his own little refuge up here. In recent months, Adalbrecht had begun overtly making it clear his son's overconsumption was a source of disappointment. He still hadn't stopped, hadn't been able to. (Molly) As soon as the bridal plate was smashed into four, he stole away with two bottles and a brooding rage. Just as he'd stolen the liquor from the party, so had fate stolen his wife from him. (Molly) They'd never had a polterabend. He'd tortured himself with this whilst a vessel for his alcohol was still in use. What would they have seen if they had? No breakage? (Molly) Noone seemed to know. The Koertig polterabends always resulted at least in a split in two, like his parents' had. Always resulted in at least two healthy sons, thanks to that damn ring his mother should have given Dietlinde. (Molly) That unpleasant thought had been the point he'd given up drinking like a Veisgraf and started drinking like a Widower of two years. The ring, and all the other benefits and comforts his wife should have had as Veisgrafin. (Molly) He was irresponsible, head in the clouds with the idea of a simple life rather than that he had been born to. He should have brought her here, kept her and Jana safe. Her only place in Die Dauerhaftigkeit should not have been six feet beneath it. (Molly) He's in a sour mood with himself, but really he was almost always in a sour mood. He hated that that stopped him from being with his daughter as much as he should, as much as Dietlinde would expect him to. (Molly) But he's always here at bedtime to read to her and kiss her goodnight before handing him over to her young nanny who then sings her to sleep whilst he hopes to drink enough to prevent his nightmares before reaching the same state. (Molly) The nanny had been with them from just before Prophets Mass that first year, when Verity had decided Morgan was not coping with Jana alone. Had it been anyone but his mother, he would have beaten them for that. But instead he'd acquiesced, allowing her to hire a seventeen year old widow from Posen with dark red hair. (Molly) She had been good for Jana. Which did make him happy, except he could see that now she was approaching four, Jana had forgotten everything about her mother, aside from her grave they often visited. She was even developing a hint of Molly's northern accent. (Molly) He should have hated this with a passion, but instead he felt wearied by it. Everything changes with time, if you let it. And yet holding on to it was like holding the pale powdery sand from an hourglass in your fingers. One day he would have to change too. (Molly) Molly comes into the parlour looking for him. She never chastised him for his drinking, unlike everyone else with their disapproving looks and pointed remarks. She'd been widowed herself only a few months before him, having been married within a week of becoming a woman at fourteen. (Molly) Taking a position in Sudlachenburg allowed her to run away from her memories, just as intoxication offered him a similar road, though much less permanent. But he didn't have the luxury of running away, not with Jana. Maybe he'd be less of a mess if he could truly escape the past. (Molly) She doesn't even frown at him as she takes the bottle and puts it out of reach. He doesn't frown at her as she perches on the chaise at his hip. The stroking of his hair at his temple is born of compassion not pity, and is as innocent as the comfort she gives his child. (Molly) He would not tolerate this babying from anyone else. On his worst days this was all the contact with people he could bear. He'd let her into the darkest places within him because he knew she had them too. (Molly) Letting her take care of him gave him a peace that he thought he'd only find once he was in the ground. God knows what it gave her, but he was grateful for her calm, steadying generosity nonetheless. (Molly) She doesn't nag him to clean up and get some sleep, noone could share a wing of the house with him without knowing that sleep was a torture not a respite. (Molly) She just sits with him tonight as many a night. Sometimes she listens as he tells the story of the accidental fire his carelessness caused, over and over, as if each recitation brings him towards absolution. (Molly) Sometimes, rarely, she speaks of the man she loved and lost, and the child she'd been growing that the grief took from her too. Mainly, they just sit, together in their aloneness. (Molly) Tonight he keeps his head bowed. How many pieces would her plate have broken into, if their town had had the tradition? Would she have seen none as a warning of the hell she was destined for? Would he? (Molly) He sits up a little, pulling her to him. It was hard watching Edward and Mina's joy, and his parents' too. They're all moving on also, the dark clouds that have been hanging over his family home starting to part. Soon they would forget her too. Would he? (Molly) Molly strokes the back of his head as he rests his forehead on her breastbone, just breathing her in. It wasn't logical that this was helpful to him, but it was, and she was kind enough to provide the comfort and aid of supporting him. This was the only place he felt safe enough to cry so many years on whilst everyone expected him to be done with tears. (Molly) She just holds him each time, without comment or judgement, without embarrassment at the immodesty, or complaints about the wetness on her skin. She allows him to put his arms around her waist, just providing herself as a safe place to land. He avails himself of it like a drowning man does of air. She is a necessity, not just to his beloved daughter, but to himself. (Molly) "I miss her, Molly." She simply nods. There's no answer she can give, they both know it. There are no words from her that break the quiet sound of his heartbreak, just a single chiming noise that wakes him* * Morgan sighs (Morgan) fuck * Molly awakes at the sigh, turning over (Molly) What's wrong? (Morgan) bad dreams * Molly gently strokes his arm (Molly) I'm here (Morgan) I'm alright blossom, was just unpleasant (Molly) You do not wish to talk about it? (Morgan) No, not really (Molly) Alright, liebling * Molly glances at the window with a slight sigh (Molly) You'll be leaving now? * Morgan nods (Morgan) its time I got up * Molly moves away (Molly) The dawn is getting later. I think it is time for me to start my day when you fo now (Molly) Do* (Morgan) oh? (Molly) It must be half past six or so, and we need to be in Tawstock quite early * Morgan nods * Molly gets out of the bed still in his shirt (Molly) I won't follow you, I have things to do here (Morgan) very well blossom * Molly pulls the shirt off before putting on a shift * Morgan rolls out of bed, getting dressed * Molly briefly kisses his cheek before he goes ** You are now disconnected
