(Molly) **Faulk's house is quiet as he exits the study. It is just after one oclock* ** mads_ is now known as Morgan (Molly) *He sees a couple of patrols, and one servant* * @Morgan stops the servant (Molly) **It is a young man he saw in the meeting, but there's nothing of significance about him* Yes, my Lord? (@Morgan) Would you get me some tea and bring it to the courtyard please? (Molly) **He nods and goes* * @Morgan heads into the courtyard (Molly) **He gets there without seeing anyone else. * @Morgan draws his straight sword and starts practicing (Molly) **a few minutes later the servant arrives with tea. He puts the tray on the bench* Anything else, my Lord? (@Morgan) No, thank you (Molly) **He goes, leaving Morgan alone* * @Morgan practices for ten minutes before leaning against the wall to drink the tea (Molly) **it's peaceful in the courtyard. A pair of guards stick their heads out whilst he's drinking the tea to check all is well* (Molly) *a few minutes later, it starts to drizzle. Uncommon for Eisen, which tends towards dry or sudden heavy rain, this light persistent rain is far more like Avalon weathrr * @Morgan stands in the drizzle, running his eyes over the house before looking way to the horizon away from the building (Molly) **for a brief moment, he feels that sense of being watched, but it ends almost as soon as it started * @Morgan frowns, looking around again but slower (Molly) **there's nothing to see. The sensation doesn't return * @Morgan picks up the tray and takes it back inside the house, heading to the kitchen (Molly) **there are a few servants milking around, including the maid who served Alarice who he knows it called Mia* (Molly) Milling * * @Morgan places the tray down before beckoning Mia over ** You're now known as Mia * Mia brushes her hands off, getting flour on the floor (Mia) Yes, my Lord? (@Morgan) I need to know which jeweller the brooch was taken to... I forgot to ask (Mia) Tabners down by the docks, my Lord (@Morgan) excellent. Do you know where he lives at all? I'd rather not wait until tomorrow (Mia) Above his shop, my Lord. It was a jewelled cross. She thought it was proper rubies, but he said they were dyed glass. (@Morgan) And then she claimed it had been stolen... (Mia) *Claudia enters the kitchen, looking around* * Mia shrugs slightly (Mia) She accused me of stealing it (@Morgan) thats what I said * Mia nods (Mia) But I think she thought I was trying to keep her money. She never told anyone else, my Lord. And obviously I didn't. (Mia) *Claudia watches Morgan quietly, serious as ever* (@Morgan) I'll go see the jeweller, see what he remembers * Mia nods (Mia) Yes my Lord * Mia curtsies and gets back to work ** You're now known as Claudia * Claudia inclines her head (Claudia) Good afternoon (@Morgan) Claudia (Claudia) I just came for coffee *G: Molly has sent Marta to town to speak to midwives and herbalists* * @Morgan nods (@Morgan) I recommend the one in the jar with the ribbon (Claudia) **She starts organising it* I'll try that one then *G: Dreschler is visiting later, is he to be trusted?* (@Morgan) since you're making one... *G: I think so* * Claudia gets an extra cup (Claudia) Are you coming up to the nursery? *She watches him closely * (@Morgan) I was going to go and speak to a jeweller... is there an issue? (Claudia) *G: Can he see her alone?* No issue, I was just wondering whether to make you a cup or add more to the jug (@Morgan) just a cup *G: What time is he due?* * Claudia pours a cup (Claudia) *G: between 2 and 3* (@Morgan) *G: I'll be back, I'd rather not leave her alone* * Claudia hands him the cup (Claudia) *G: alright. Any orders or messages?* (@Morgan) Thank you. How're you finding the guards now? *G:Just the usual* * Claudia rolls her eyes (Claudia) Talkative. I bet there isn't a piece of gossip they don't know between them. (@Morgan) Good. That'll help (Claudia) Tedious though (@Morgan) only until we learn something we need (Claudia) If you can sort the wheat from the chaff, perhaps (@Morgan) I think the two you've currently got are among the wheat... the colonel holds them in high regard * Claudia nods slowly (Claudia) *G: You want to know something specific about him?* (@Morgan) *G: I'd be interested to know what the cause of his restraint with his wife is* (Claudia) *G: restraint?* * @Morgan sips his coffee (@Morgan) *G: They're distant with each other. I'd like to know why* * Claudia arranges the things on the tray (Claudia) Alright *She nods* You'll be back before two? * @Morgan nods * Claudia inclines her head and leaves the kitchen (Claudia) **the stables seem quiet when he gets there. * @Morgan sets about saddling a horse (Claudia) *His Palomino is there still ** You are now disconnected ------------------------------ Logging started for Blitzed:#7thseaic on Thursday, 13 June 2019 11:21:27 British Summer Time ------------------------------ ** You have joined #7thseaic (Molly) (Claudia) Alright *She nods* You'll be back before two? (Molly) * @Morgan nods (Molly) * Claudia inclines her head and leaves the kitchen (Molly) (Claudia) **the stables seem quiet when he gets there. (Molly) * @Morgan sets about saddling a horse (Molly) (Claudia) *His Palomino is there still * @Morgan saddles the horse (Molly) **He notices a noise from the next stall, but no equine head is visible over the wooden divider * @Morgan goes for a look (Molly) **He discovers a white and brown piebald pony, which he had not seen on any other visit to the stable (@Morgan) Now where have you come (@Morgan) from (Molly) **There's footsteps from further in the stable** Groom: Me, my Lord? (@Morgan) No, this pony ** You're now known as Groom (Groom) Grafin Seeufer bought him for the young Freiarrs birthday tomorrow, my Lord (@Morgan) When? (Groom) He was delivered last night, but she arranged it weeks ago (@Morgan) pricey (Groom) Best part of seventy guilders I believe, my Lord * @Morgan nods, going back to saddling the palomino (Groom) **His horse complies. Though neither Palomino has the personality or spirit of Xantha or Crusader, they are still good horses * @Morgan leads the horse outside before climbing into the saddle (Groom) **the drizzle continues * @Morgan rides towards the town (Groom) **the town is quiet. He sees a few people who appear to be leaving the dock at a slow pace, and the ferry heading back towards seeufer (Groom) **He easily spots the jewellers shop, with Tabners over the door, and hundreds of shiny pieces displayed in the window behind thick glass * @Morgan rides over, tying the horse before looking in the window (Groom) **He sees lots of pretty and not as pretty things, but none resembles a ruby-jewelled cross as Mia described * @Morgan tries the door (Groom) **it is obviously locked * @Morgan bangs on the door (Groom) **He can hear grumbling** (Groom) **An old man comes to the door. He has spectacles on his head, and a handful of what looks to be small joined pieces of metalwork. He opens it, then looks at Morgan * Yes? (@Morgan) I was hoping to talk to you about a piece that was sold to you ** You're now known as Tabner * Tabner looks at his attire, and decides he's a merchant (Tabner) Quickly then, I'm working (@Morgan) so I see, on a sunday... might I come in? * Tabner motions him to come in, and leads him through to a work room (Tabner) I always work on Sundays. I don't have time to make things when the shop is open (@Morgan) that makes sense * Tabner puts the pieces back on the table, and takes up a small pair of pliers. The little bits are joined by many links, and a mix of green metal strands and pearls (Tabner) How can I help? (@Morgan) I want to ask you about a piece that was sold to you by one of the maids in the employ of the Eisenfurst (Tabner) Which one? (@Morgan) A jewelled cross brooch * Tabner takes out a small wooden box, and uses the pliers to add a small blue glass flower to the necklace that looks like flower stems. It's beautiful and intricate. (Tabner) Ah yes, I recall * Tabner seals the link, then looks up (Tabner) What did you want to know? (@Morgan) if you still have it, if there was anything.... unusual about it (Tabner) I do, and it's marked with U.E., which I believe was the initials of Grafin Seeufer's former mother in law * Tabner gestures to a cabinet whilst he selects another flower. "Top drawer, third box on the left" * @Morgan goes and fetches it (Tabner) Pretty enough, isn't it? * @Morgan nods (@Morgan) the maid says the jewels aren't real * Tabner nods, continuing the delicate work (Tabner) Not even slightly * @Morgan looks it over closely (@Morgan) I was hoping there'd be something unusual about it, aside from being fake (Tabner) **it is indeed marked with Karsten' s mother's initials, Ursula Eldreich, whose house in Freiburg had been part of Alarice's morgengabe that she ran off to before the wedding, and where Jarvie is staying (Tabner) Oh? Why is that? * @Morgan shrugs (@Morgan) it would've been... apt. I suppose. (Tabner) I could only give her five for it, but if those had been real stones it would have been worth a hundred easily * Tabner repeats the process with the flowers, and the necklace is beginning to take shape (@Morgan) I'm surprised that it was given in the first place (Tabner) To me to buy? (@Morgan) No... that someone in the position of the Grafins mother in law would have a fake jewelled brooch * Tabner shrugs (Tabner) The war being what it was, I suppose. Its only the last few years that the demand for real jewels has returned. Before that, I mostly traded in good fakes * @Morgan nods (@Morgan) makes sense (Tabner) It was the only fake amongst her pieces, though I suspected the ring might have been (@Morgan) the ring? * Tabner pauses a moment, hand that was formerly stable and skilled wavering. He looks to Morgan (Tabner) Has she sent you? (@Morgan) No-one sent me (Tabner) Then how do you know about the brooch? (@Morgan) I'm... investigating events (Tabner) What events? * Tabner returns to his labours whilst listening (@Morgan) I'm trying to find out why she was so desperate to raise money... now... the ring? * Tabner frowns (Tabner) She told me she'd have my shop raised to the ground if I told anyone (@Morgan) She's in no position to follow through on that threat * Tabner sighs (Tabner) Nearly two months ago she came to me late at night. I didn't know it was her to start with as she was wearing a wig and a maid's dress. She had a ring, two sapphires and a diamond. It was so big I assumed it was a fake... * Tabner pulls another link closed (Tabner) But it wasn't (@Morgan) what did she bring it for? valuation? (Tabner) To sell (@Morgan) go on (Tabner) She wanted it sold on far away from the Konigsreich, ideally in Vendel or Avalon (@Morgan) did she say why (Tabner) It apparently held some sentimental value, and she didn't want to accidentally see it again, but she desperately needed the money (@Morgan) I don't suppose she said what she needed the money for * Tabner shakes his head, and finishes the flower he's attaching before speaking (Tabner) No, she didn't. But she seemed very determined. She wouldn't take anything less than two hundred and seventy five guilders * @Morgan nods (@Morgan) how did the threat come about? (Tabner) She said she would want three hundred if I didn't swear to keep it secret, and she'd destroy my life if I didn't * @Morgan nods (@Morgan) I see * Tabner continues his work, almost completed (Tabner) I assume you won't tell her I told you? (@Morgan) You have my word * Tabner nods (@Morgan) I take it you sold the ring on? (Tabner) An associate of mine took it to Londinium and got four hundred for it * @Morgan nods * Tabner concentrates a moment on the clasp (@Morgan) Thats a nice necklace. Made to order? (Tabner) Not yet. It was an idea I had, and I wanted to see if it would work (@Morgan) forget me nots aren't they * Tabner smiles (Tabner) They are. They were my sister's favourite flowers * @Morgan nods (@Morgan) how much once its finished? * Tabner looks thoughtful (Tabner) Once I've practised it more, and can make them quicker, twenty guilders or so. Glass is cheap, pearls aren't very expensive, as jewellery goes. Tough to say whether the design will take off though. Not fancy enough for the nobles, a little too fancy for the commoners (@Morgan) I rather think my wife would like it * Tabner nods (Tabner) It'd be about right for a merchant's wife, no doubt (@Morgan) I rather think the Veisgrafin would like it (Tabner) Which Veisgrafin? (@Morgan) Sudlachenburg (Tabner) Ahh yes, I heard they were visiting his Grace. A handsome couple, I hear (@Morgan) Thank you * Tabner looks surprised, and embarassed (Tabner) So sorry, my Lord, I didn't realise! (@Morgan) Don't worry about it. I tend not to announce who I am, people get flustered * Tabner nods, clearly also flustered (Tabner) I could have one of these done for you by Tuesday, my Lord (@Morgan) Thank you. As I said, my wife would love it, she's rather fond of forget-me-nots * Tabner smiles (Tabner) I would be honoured then (Tabner) I'll send it up to his Grace's when it is ready? Unless you'd prefer to collect it and surprise her, my Lord? (@Morgan) I think that'd be the better option, collecting it. * Tabner nods (Tabner) Very good, my Lord. Anything else I can help with? (@Morgan) No, thank you. Thank you for your time * Tabner gets up, leading the way to the door (Tabner) You're welcome, my Lord * @Morgan heads outside * Tabner shuts the door carefully. The Palomino waits in the drizzle without fuss * @Morgan unties the horse before mounting up (Tabner) **the first church clock he passes reads twenty before two * @Morgan rides back to the house (Tabner) **He sees the groom again who takes the horse, and then Katherine, the other young servant arranging some flowers in the entrance hall * @Morgan heads to the nursery ** You're now known as Claudia (Claudia) **He can already hear Oren chattering as he gets to the top of the stairs "Of course, that's my second cousin twice... no, three times removed, and he has a butcher's shop in..." Morgan gets to the corridor, and the talking stops. Claudia is frowning deeply. * Claudia looks at the guard (Claudia) Go get some more coffee, Oren. *He nods, going. He inclines his head to Morgan as he passes. Claudia shakes her head, watching him disappear down the stairs* (Claudia) He hasn't stopped talking since you left. (@Morgan) I think he likes you * Claudia 's nose wrinkles (Claudia) I hope not. (@Morgan) Anything occurred? (Claudia) No, absolutely nothing * @Morgan nods (@Morgan) good (Claudia) You want coffee bringing in? (@Morgan) please * Claudia nods, unlocking the door (Claudia) I'll bring it in * @Morgan nods, going inside
