** You have joined #7thseaic
(@A) You drew this?
(@A) * Morgan tucks it back in his pocket
(@A) Yes, I did
(@A) * Faulk looks impressed
(@A) It's good
(@A) its adequate
(@A) **There's a knock at the door, jarring Faulk out of his momentary contemplation
** A is now known as Morgan
(Molly) **A butler announces Colonel Fuchs, and Faulk nods for him to be let in. The man in question is as tall as Morgan, with somewhat wild ginger hair escaping the ponytail he keeps it in, and a big beard. There's something almost Vestennavmanjaar in his features, though his bearing is more one of Eisen military. MTF
(Molly) *His clothes are not dissimilar to what Morgan used to wear at Catherine's. He has a large sack as well as a loaded sword belt. He looks strong, intelligent, and in his late thirties. He enters the room as one who has been there many times
(Molly) *Faulk rises, offering him a slight bow, and Fuchs does likewise. Both men then look to Morgan* Faulk: Veisgraf Koertig, may I present my head of security, Colonel Fuchs? Colonel Fuchs, Lieutenant the Veisgraf Morgan Koertig von Sudlachenburg.
* @Morgan inclines his head
(@Morgan) Colonel
(Molly) *The Colonel performs the appropriate bow. He studies Morgan a moment, both his clothing and mannerisms, followed by his demeanour within the Eisenfursts office* Veisgraf Koertig.
* @Morgan stands fairly still, looking to the Eisenfurst
(Molly) **Faulk takes a few minutes to get them to the table and to see to everyone's
(Molly) Faulk: Lets have some lunch whilst we talk, gentlemen. *He takes a few minutes to ensure everyone is adequately set up before taking his own seat*
(Molly) Fuchs: *he behaves politely, giving due deterrence to both his superiors, though Morgan can see some curiosity in his expression. He waits until the Eisenfurst has started before eating*
(Molly) Faulk: Colonel, I have asked the Veisgraf to work with and alongside you in current matters.
(Molly) C: *He inclines his head* As you wish, your Grace. *He takes a moment whilst sipping his coffee to study Morgan's reaction to this*
* @Morgan 's face stays neutral
(Molly) F: He is the baroness' cousin, and has security experience. *The Colonel nods, none of this a surprise*
(Molly) C: I will provide what information I can, your Grace.
* @Morgan watches Fuchs, sipping his coffee before wincing slightly
(Molly) F: Firstly, we need to bring you up to speed with Grafin Seeufer's actions since you came this morning. Veisgraf, could you please explain what happened when you visited her this morning?
* @Morgan sighs slightly
(Molly) C: *He watches Morgan in that familiar, patient, neutral way of all decent investigators.
(@Morgan) After she'd goaded me for a while, I threw her in the Sudlache as I had promised her last time I warned her about speaking ill of my late wife. Thats about the time she started shrieking about destroying me through those I love. All of which is after, of course, she attempted to poison my wife.
(Molly) C: *He simply nods as if filing it away* Do you think her threats are credible?
* @Morgan raises an eyebrow
(@Morgan) No, I'm sitting here for the fun of it
(Molly) C: *He watches Morgan neutrally a moment, then nods* Anything else
(Molly) ?*
(Molly) F: *He watches the two men whilst eating* She managed to get a visit late last night from a solicitor and his assistant... *He looks at Morgan a moment* Do you have the letter?
(@Morgan) I've moved one of the guards off of the guardhouse, he stands to be influenced by my cousin. Your staff need some work, but I suspect you know that
(Molly) C: *He watches Morgan closely* I suspect you have ideas of how you'd like to fix that
(@Morgan) One or two. I'd be interested to hear yours, though.
* @Morgan fishes the letter out of a pocket
** You're now known as Fuchs
* Fuchs watches. Fischler looks far more interested in his lunch, but nods
* @Morgan hands it over before sipping his coffee again
(Fuchs) Faulk: Good, I thought I might have misplaced it
* Fuchs inspects it, the paper, the seal, before slowly reading it. He looks at Morgan.
(Fuchs) Convenient.
(@Morgan) What is?
(Fuchs) That she is allegedly increasing.
* @Morgan nods
(@Morgan) quite. I'd be interested to know how she suddenly acquired a new solicitor at such short notice... in the middle of the night....
* Fuchs nods
(Fuchs) One potential thread will start there. Who allowed it, why they allowed it, how she knew which solicitor to call for, how she intends to pay them. She isn't in a position where I'd work for her on credit.
* @Morgan nods
(Fuchs) Another is working out what resources she has for another attack. That will involve searching her room, speaking to the staff she had, making enquires to the Graf. This is also how we will get to the bottom of her alleged pregnancy.
(@Morgan) I'm confused about something
* Fuchs and Fischler look enquiringly at him
* @Morgan looks at Fuchs
(@Morgan) you're clearly a very clever man... why aren't your staff better at their jobs? What is it that stops you instilling that level of dedication to the job into them?
* Fuchs frowns incredibly briefly, so quick anyone without Morgan's level of observational skills would miss it
(Fuchs) That is something I intend to rectify as soon as lunch is finished. The first priority needs to be defence of your wife and your son ((Varick hasn't been mentioned to Fuchs in front of Morgan)), followed by defence of his Grace and the house. Once things are in order here, I can begin further investigations.
(@Morgan) hows?
(Fuchs) How will I investigate, or how will I right the guards?
(@Morgan) the latter
(Fuchs) F: *He frowns* What is wrong with my guards?
(@Morgan) You tell me.
* Fuchs blinks slightly longer than he had been, the faintest hint of frustration there before he sips his coffee
(Fuchs) Your Grace, as we have discussed previously, your guards are... *He pauses, tailoring his response for an Eisenfurst, and not a fellow military man* are in need of motivation, so that when situations like this arise, I am not starting from scratch. They are too comfortable.
(Fuchs) Faulk: *He frowns* They are good and loyal. I've known many of them since childhood
(@Morgan) and now we're guarding some random Veisgrafin instead of doing our jobs...
* @Morgan sips his coffee
* Fuchs looks to Morgan
(Fuchs) You know which one said that?
(@Morgan) I could point them out. I shouldn't imagine I need to, I expressed my displeasure... and told them I'd be seeing them again
(Fuchs) *Faulk looks embarrassed as well as annoyed*
* Fuchs looks appraisingly at Morgan, before looking back to Faulk
(Fuchs) I am sure, your Grace, that that can not be allowed to stand. If we are to protect Veisgrafin Koertig, we need the best guards. Not those with the longest service, but those with the skills needed. *Faulk nods slowly, watching Morgan*
(@Morgan) On the plus side, skills can be taught... loyalty cant
* Fuchs picks up his bag from the floor, and drops it on the table. He nods to Morgan
(Fuchs) Unfortunately, my four best guards are dead.
* @Morgan nods
(@Morgan) you have my condolences
* Fuchs opens the bag, drawing out six throwing knives, all clean, and lays them out
(Fuchs) Thank you. They were men who were under my command in the Navy.
* @Morgan looks at the kives
** Morgan has said your nick on Morgan
(Fuchs) **Fuchs looks slightly uncomfortable. The knives look expensive, well made and a decent size. There's no obvious distinct marking
(Fuchs) Faulk: They were good men. The Konigsreich will see them buried with honour. Fuchs inclines his head, but there's a rigidity in the rest of his stance that makes him seem less than pleased
(@Morgan) Had they any wishes for their passing? Location of service, attendance, that sort of thing?
(Fuchs) Yes, your Grace..
* Fuchs sighs
(Fuchs) I'll need to speak to their wives and families later and ask. The only plans I know of are those we made the night before our last battle. But those plans aren't appropriate to the situation.
(Fuchs) Faulk: *He watches his head of security * surely the plans will be much the same, whether dying at home or in war?
* Fuchs looks briefly at Morgan, watching for his reaction very closely before speaking
* @Morgan watches him solemnly
* Fuchs inclines his head a fraction before looking back to the Eisenfurst
(Fuchs) Unlikely, your Grace. I'll speak to the families today and have an answer by the morning.
(Fuchs) *Faulk nods, looking at the knives on the table*
(Fuchs) [21:35] (Fuchs) *He looks at the knives* Their bodies were found in a clearing in the East Forest. From what we can make out, they appear to have been led there, and then the knives were thrown by an assailant from up in the trees. However, there are lots of footprints down there messing up the scene.
* Fuchs looks briefly at Morgan
(Fuchs) I assume you want to be involved in this investigation as well ?
(@Morgan) It might be an idea, until your staff are up to your required standard
* Fuchs nods slowly
(Fuchs) Has his Grace told you about the woman we suspect to be responsible?
(@Morgan) Montaigne woman?
* Fuchs nods
(@Morgan) I've met her. She's remarkably dangerous
* Fuchs nods
(Fuchs) Unfortunately I didn't know that until this morning
* Fuchs picks up one of the knives, lifting it flat on his palm
(Fuchs) She's for some strength to her, and an incredible aim.
(Fuchs) Got *
* Fuchs offers it to Morgan
* @Morgan takes it
(@Morgan) She's very good... managed to hit me square between the shoulders
(Fuchs) **It's heavier than he might have anticipated, given her build. The weight feels solid, as balanced as he'd like, and it's very sharp. It looks like it was made in the last year or so, no obvious dents or flaws, well cared for
* Fuchs looks at the other 5
(Fuchs) Similar weapon?
(@Morgan) No, long, pointy... hard as hell to throw well
* Fuchs nods thoughtfully
(Fuchs) So she may be even better than these *He waves his hand* imply?
(@Morgan) She'd give me a run for my money, I expect
(Fuchs) You're good with throwing knives?
(@Morgan) knives, axes, swords, zweihanders, rocks, arrows... I could probably throw a short man with fair accuracy
* Fuchs looks very impressed
(Fuchs) Most people can barely lift a zweihander.
(@Morgan) I'll admit its a tough one to throw... last time I nearly sliced my chin open
* Fuchs laughs
(Fuchs) A couple of the lads thought it'd be funny to have a drunken duel with them.one night as we were sailing up the great river, nearly took a mast down.
(Fuchs) *Fischler refills the coffee*
(@Morgan) I'm not surprised.
(Fuchs) I told them if they pulled a stunt like that again, they'd be back in Tannen scrubbing the academy's privvies til the war was a distant memory
(@Morgan) I'm surprised they could wield them at all if they'd not been trained
(Fuchs) They were trained. They were just foolish. They'd have lived longer that way.
* Fuchs looks over to the Eisenfurst in response to his cough of interruption
(Fuchs) Faulk: You have not captured this montaigne woman?
* Fuchs shakes his head
(Fuchs) No, your Grace. I need to get down there again and take a closer look at the tracks
(Fuchs) Faulk: Maybe that is something you can do once you've spruced up my guards, hmm?
(@Morgan) I'd be interested to know how she knew they were coming.
* Fuchs nods slowly
(Fuchs) It suggests possible accomplises, alongside the multitude of footprints down there
* Fuchs puts the five knives back in the empty bag, then hands it to Morgan
* @Morgan takes it, confused
(Fuchs) She's dangerous. We haven't found her yet. We dont know if she's connected to Grafin Seeufer's case. You can throw. You may as well have them.
* @Morgan nods
(@Morgan) I wouldn't be surprised either way to my cousin or not
* Fuchs nods
(Fuchs) Another job for today, work out how to keep her well away from anyone she could manipulate or pass messages through. Solitary confinement ideally.
* @Morgan nods
(@Morgan) I'd offer my friend to help guard, but she's guarding my wife
* Fuchs nods
(Fuchs) You need to keep it that way. We need to make sure only those we can trust get as close as that.
* @Morgan nods
(Fuchs) *Fischler stands* If you gentleman will excuse me, I need a quick word with my son before visiting hours start.
* Fuchs 's jaw becomes tight, though he rises as is customary
* @Morgan nods, standing
(Fuchs) Your Grace, a list of planned visitors would be helpful, we need to ensure we know exactly who is entering and leaving the building and grounds.
(Fuchs) Faulk *He sighs* Yes, very well. Mikkleson ((the butler)) will know. *He inclines his head before leaving the room*
* Fuchs stares into the middle distance, waiting for the door to shut and a few seconds to pass.
(Fuchs) I don't, as a rule, really like having people seconded to my team.
* @Morgan smiles slightly
(@Morgan) I would imagine not.
* Fuchs turns to face him
(Fuchs) Don't take that as a slight. I don't know any former CO who likes suddenly gaining any personnel he knows almost nothing about.
(@Morgan) You're about the only person who doesn't know a lot about me then
* @Morgan motions for Fuchs to sit down
(Fuchs) I know the usual. But I know very little about who you _are_, as a man, not as a rumour.
* Fuchs sits
* @Morgan sits down
(@Morgan) Alright. Lets get acquainted then shall we? Ask away
(Fuchs) Did you ever live down the night you turned that rifle on Kaufmann?
* @Morgan shrugs
(@Morgan) A point needed to be made, and he was being too bullheaded to listen
(Fuchs) He's a jackass. He still doesn't listen.
(@Morgan) He was going to get us all killed. I couldn't stand by and let it happen
* Fuchs nods
(Fuchs) He should never have been given command.
* @Morgan nods
(Fuchs) What do you want to ask me, as we're getting acquainted?
(@Morgan) Why haven't you gotten this place running properly?
(Fuchs) Because I work under a general who sees his troops as his friends, not an army he's the head of.
* Fuchs watches Morgan appraisingly
(Fuchs) Why have you kept your wife in the one place her enemy can be fairly sure she'll be in?
(@Morgan) Defensible location... harder to do when you're on the move, especially with that girl out there
* Fuchs nods slowly
(@Morgan) Besides, your general wants me here for the time being... and my father is on his way and I intend to make sure he doesn't get duped by my cousin
(Fuchs) Alright. That is what we'll work with then. You have a guard already with her?
* @Morgan nods
(Fuchs) How good is your guard?
* @Morgan smiles
(@Morgan) I daresay those who can best her can be counted on one hand
(@Morgan) but then I understand the Regenstag's were all rather... talented
* Fuchs looks shocked and impressed
(Fuchs) That'll do it alright.
(@Morgan) I think you should understand my remit...
* Fuchs inclines his head, waiting
(@Morgan) Essentially, fix this place. Make any changes I think need making, throw the Eisenfursts name about a bit. What I'd like to do is let you use it as an excuse to get the staff trained as you want them, since it'll be me taking any heat for it.
* Fuchs nods
(Fuchs) That would be very gracious of you
* @Morgan shrugs
(@Morgan) Faulks my friend... if I can guarantee his safety simply by withstanding some ire from him, thats what I shall do. I know what its like to protect someone who can't or won't see how dangerous this world can be to them
* Fuchs nods solemnly
(Fuchs) Sometimes I feel like throwing my hands in the air and saying to hell with it. But if I do that, he could end up in an even worse predicament under the next head of security
* @Morgan nods
(@Morgan) so lets get it fixed while he's amenable to it.
* Fuchs nods
(Fuchs) An awkward question, but one that needs to be asked I'm afraid; is your wife likely to be difficult to keep safe?
(@Morgan) You mean is she entitled, flighty and wilful?
* Fuchs grimaces
(Fuchs) Yes
* @Morgan smiles
(@Morgan) unlike my former employer, no... she'll listen to what I ask of her
(Fuchs) Thank Theus for that! Generally I find guarding women is much harder than guarding men, especially once the sobbing or the puppy dog eyes begin!
(@Morgan) To protect Varick, she'd slay any man who stood in her way. She can defend herself, but I'd rather it doesn't come to that
* Fuchs looks impressed
(Fuchs) That's useful
* @Morgan nods
(Fuchs) **there's a brief knock at the door
(@Morgan) Come in
(Fuchs) *A servant appears with an unsealed note, handing it to Morgan
* @Morgan takes it, opening it
(Fuchs) **it's coded, but the familiar code from Karstens diary
** You are now disconnected
