* Molly looks at the clock on the mantle as the shorter hand pushes towards one o'clock. She puts down the dress and stands
[7:58pm] <14Molly> [19:41] (Molly) [00:54] (Molly) I'll need to see to my hair. What happened to the men? [00:55] (@Morgan) they were dealt with 00:56] * Molly crosses the room and sits at the dressing table. She looks a moment at the mirror on it, less fine than the one he bought her. She picks up a brush.
[7:58pm] <14Molly> [19:41] (Molly) [00:57] (Molly) With all due respect, liebling, I would prefer to not be shielded
[7:58pm] <14Molly> [19:43] * Molly watches him in the reflection. He sees that beneath her firm, matter-of-fact attitude, she's hurting.
[7:59pm] <04@Morgan> I killed them
[8:01pm] * Molly nods, still watching him. The brush remains in her hand unused.
[8:01pm] <14Molly> Do you regret it?
[8:02pm] <04@Morgan> No. Their punishment would've ended in the same result, regardless of who they'd attacked
[8:03pm] * Molly nods. In the mirror, he sees her gaze move from his to the wounds she has. She looks solemn.
[8:04pm] <14Molly> Good.
[8:06pm] * Molly turns her face slightly, studying the slight bruising on her cheek bone. He can't pick up any of her thoughts or feelings.
[8:08pm] <14Molly> Who else knows?
[8:09pm] <04@Morgan> Heinrich...
[8:10pm] * Molly nods slightly. With a flicker of a frown, she begins to brush her hair.
[8:10pm] <14Molly> Who were they?
[8:11pm] <04@Morgan> Debt collectors, looking for the comte... apparently my cousin has been paying off his debts for him
[8:12pm] * Molly pauses. She looks surprised.
[8:12pm] <14Molly> Debt collectors. Nothing to do with the girl?
[8:13pm] <04@Morgan> I don't think so, no... they were all too keen to give details
[8:15pm] * Molly nods. She shivers a little before returning to brushing her hair. It is already smooth and tidy looking, but she continues regardless
[8:15pm] <14Molly> What happens now?
[8:16pm] <04@Morgan> Now I'll be informing their paymaster what their conduct was, and how it was dealt with.
[8:17pm] <14Molly> That makes sense
[8:19pm] * Molly meets his eyes in the reflection
[8:19pm] <14Molly> And the Comte?
[8:20pm] * @Morgan approaches her slowly
[8:20pm] <04@Morgan> what about him?
[8:21pm] * Molly 's jaw tightens slightly, and there is a hint of animosity there
[8:22pm] <14Molly> What are you planning to do with him if he reappears?
[8:22pm] <04@Morgan> encourage him to repay the debts that the village paid for him
[8:23pm] * Molly frowns a little, still brushing
[8:24pm] <14Molly> If he has debt collectors chasing Alarice for payment, I doubt he will be forthcoming for restitution to Innesbruck.
[8:25pm] * @Morgan sets his jaw
[8:25pm] <04@Morgan> I'll see to it he pays his debt, in one manner or another
[8:26pm] * Molly watches him a moment
[8:27pm] <14Molly> Good. He should bear a good deal of responsiblity for both our injuries.
[8:27pm] * @Morgan nods slowly, placing his hands on her shoulders gently
[8:27pm] * Molly lowers her gaze
[8:28pm] <14Molly> I'm sorry, that was unnecessarily harsh of me
[8:28pm] <04@Morgan> I don't think so
[8:31pm] * Molly nods a little as if not knowing what to say. She runs the silver-backed brush over the ends of her hair, taming the curls there
[8:33pm] <14Molly> I just... I feel as if he is a thorn in our side that needs to be removed. Even banishing him has not prevented his influence from causing harm.
[8:34pm] * @Morgan gently takes the brush and begins brushing
[8:34pm] <04@Morgan> aye, he's crossed our path too often now
[8:35pm] * Molly blushes briefly. She keeps her eyes downcast. He notices almost immediately a reduction in the tension of her shoulders. She speaks softly
[8:36pm] <14Molly> Thank you
[8:36pm] * @Morgan looks confused
[8:38pm] * Molly bites her lower lip. He notices in the mirror the two tears that run slowly down each cheek
[8:39pm] <04@Morgan> talk to me blossom
[8:40pm] * Molly meets his gaze. The pain in her eyes is brutally clear.
[8:41pm] <14Molly> What is there to say?
[8:44pm] * Molly tries to suppress them but the tears continue
[8:44pm] * @Morgan nods sadly
[8:47pm] <14Molly> I could have been killed...
[8:48pm] <04@Morgan> possibly, though I think you'd have done enough to avoid that
[8:49pm] <14Molly> I just don't know... If Sorgi hadn't arrived...
[8:49pm] <04@Morgan> Any doubts I had about that man have been erased
[8:49pm] * Molly keeps her head bowed, and the tears fall into her lap
[8:49pm] <14Molly> Aye
[8:51pm] <14Molly> Please, do not feel that you must stay. I'll feel stronger in a while.
[8:51pm] <04@Morgan> I'll stay as long as you need me
[8:52pm] * Molly nods
[8:52pm] <14Molly> I won't send you away for the sake of my own pride
[8:53pm] * @Morgan nods
[8:53pm] <04@Morgan> good... would you like some tea?
[8:53pm] * Molly shakes her head
[8:54pm] <14Molly> Nein, liebes herz...
[8:55pm] * Molly moves around on the stool to face him. She places her cheek on his stomach, arms wrapping round his waist
[8:57pm] <14Molly> Tea won't help right now
[8:58pm] * @Morgan holds her close
[9:00pm] * Molly clings to him, crying as the overwhelming emotions of the situation are released. He starts to feel the jumble of her feelings, the fear and shock, but also her gratitude to him for the support
[9:07pm] * @Morgan rocks her gently, stroking the top of her head
[9:09pm] <14Molly> **After a minute or so of crying, she takes a deep breath, moving away a little, leaving a damp shirt in her wake
[9:09pm] * Molly looks up at him
[9:10pm] <14Molly> Sorry
[9:10pm] <04@Morgan> don't be daft blossom
[9:11pm] * Molly smiles a little
[9:11pm] <14Molly> I feel much better now
[9:12pm] <04@Morgan> good
[9:12pm] <14Molly> I'll heal the scars
[9:12pm] * Molly smiles
[9:13pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:13pm] <04@Morgan> good
[9:16pm] * Molly turns back to the mirror. She carefully smoothes over the knife marks with her fingertip. She winces slightly with each.
[9:17pm] <14Molly> I prefer it when it doesn't hurt
[9:18pm] * @Morgan nods
[3:44pm] * Molly moves on to her breast, and then her cheek and wrists. Soon no trace remains except the redness and hint of solemnity in her eyes
[3:48pm] * @Morgan watches her silently
[3:49pm] * Molly watches him closely
[3:49pm] <14Molly> Do you think I am taking this too much to heart?
[3:50pm] <04@Morgan> No blossom
[3:50pm] * Molly slowly begins to pin up her hair
[3:51pm] <14Molly> I did not know debt collectors would employ such... Methods.
[3:52pm] <04@Morgan> No... I don't know its an encouraged practice
[3:54pm] * Molly frowns a little as she struggles to pin a curl
[3:54pm] <14Molly> If I hadn't had the dagger...
[3:56pm] <04@Morgan> You're a resourceful lass, you'd have thought of something
[3:56pm] * Molly looks at him, studying his expression
[3:57pm] <14Molly> Perhaps. *she sighs* thank you for coming back
[3:57pm] * @Morgan shakes his head
[3:57pm] <04@Morgan> I'm sorry it took so long
[3:59pm] * Molly finishes the hairstyle. Slowly the signs of her tears are subsiding
[3:59pm] <14Molly> You were far away, you did what you could
[4:06pm] * @Morgan nods
[4:06pm] * Molly turns to him
[4:07pm] <14Molly> Your comforting and support are irreplaceable. I could not have borne this without you
[4:10pm] <04@Morgan> I wish I could have done more
[4:11pm] * Molly shakes her head, watching him intently
[4:13pm] <14Molly> Any man could have knocked him out. Any could have killed them. You and you only could allow me to overcome my feelings.
[4:16pm] * @Morgan nods slowly
[4:17pm] <14Molly> None could do more. I needed that. I needed you.
[4:17pm] <04@Morgan> I'm glad I helped
[4:18pm] * Molly takes his hands as she rises
[4:18pm] <14Molly> You always help me. You are so good to me
[4:18pm] * Molly smiles gently
[4:21pm] <14Molly> I hope you do not feel guilty for not being here
[4:21pm] <04@Morgan> Somewhat
[4:21pm] * Molly squeezes his hands
[4:22pm] <14Molly> You musnt, liebling.
[4:22pm] * @Morgan nods
[4:24pm] * Molly studies his expression
[4:25pm] * @Morgan watches her calmly, tension obvious in his features
[4:26pm] * Molly loosens his hands, wrapping her arms around his neck, not asking comfort but supplying it.
[4:28pm] <14Molly> **he can feel her emotions, full of concern for him
[4:31pm] <04@Morgan> I'll have retribution for this
[4:32pm] * Molly pulls him closer
[4:32pm] <14Molly> If you wish it, my love
[4:33pm] <04@Morgan> for you and Innesbruck
[4:34pm] * Molly nods a little
[4:34pm] <14Molly> It is a matter of honour?
[4:35pm] <04@Morgan> its a matter of _right_
[4:35pm] * Molly moves back a little, watching him
[4:36pm] <14Molly> I am a little confused
[4:36pm] <04@Morgan> why?
[4:36pm] <14Molly> How can you achieve retribution when they're already dead?
[4:37pm] <04@Morgan> I was talking about the Comte... and Alarice
[4:38pm] * Molly looks surprised
[4:38pm] <14Molly> Alarice?
[4:38pm] <04@Morgan> she's been paying his debts from the coffers of the village
[4:38pm] * Molly nods
[4:39pm] <14Molly> I meant more as in how retribution could be sought
[4:39pm] <04@Morgan> I think she'll be putting the money back
[4:40pm] * Molly looks thoughtful
[4:40pm] <14Molly> If you wish, I could draw her up an invoice as Kai did to me?
[4:40pm] * @Morgan nods slowly
[4:41pm] <04@Morgan> Yes... I think thats an idea
[4:41pm] * Molly smiles warmly, looking more buoyant
[4:41pm] <14Molly> But not until I have my rings on
[4:42pm] * @Morgan nods
[4:42pm] * Molly kisses him cheek gently before loosening her embrace
[4:43pm] <14Molly> I think we must simply live and learn
[4:44pm] * @Morgan nods
[4:44pm] <04@Morgan> at least we have that option
[4:44pm] * Molly nods
[4:44pm] <14Molly> It could have been far worse
[4:45pm] <04@Morgan> aye
[4:46pm] * Molly exhales deeply. He can sense that she's feeling much better
[4:47pm] <14Molly> I must return to work, I'm afraid
[4:47pm] * @Morgan nods
[4:47pm] <04@Morgan> as you wish blossom
[4:47pm] * Molly smiles
[4:48pm] <14Molly> If you wish to eat today, it's somewhat unavoidable
[4:48pm] * @Morgan nods
[4:48pm] <04@Morgan> probably worth doing then
[4:49pm] * Molly nods. She goes to the window, pulling it closed
[4:49pm] <14Molly> Also worth doing, lest we freeze at bedtime
[4:51pm] * @Morgan nods
[4:51pm] <04@Morgan> definitely something I'd like to avoid
[4:52pm] <14Molly> Bedtime? *she smirks*
[4:52pm] <04@Morgan> freezing...
[4:53pm] * Molly smiles, bundling up the ruined dress and heading to the door
[4:54pm] <14Molly> I'll do my best to ensure you're perfectly warm enough
[4:54pm] * @Morgan smiles

[8:39pm] <14Molly> **its about half an hour later, Molly happily reunited with her rings and preparing the evening meal in advance though it is only mid-afternoon. Heinrich and Ghalen seem to have vanished somewhere. Morgan has been left to his own devices
[8:41pm] * @Morgan stands in the yard, practicing with a sword
[8:43pm] <14Molly> **there's a cough from behind him
[8:43pm] [8:43pm] Molly (~forrester@90.211.gs.opx) is now known as Sorgi
[8:44pm] * @Morgan turns
[8:44pm] <04@Morgan> yes?
[8:45pm] * Sorgi holds the dagger in his hand. It dawns on Morgan that he has lost most of the signs that marked him as a heavy drinker.
[8:46pm] <14Sorgi> Begging your pardon M'Lord, I wanted to bring you Lady Koertig's knife
[8:46pm] <04@Morgan> Thank you Sorgi
[8:47pm] * Sorgi hands it over. It looks pristine.
[8:47pm] <04@Morgan> You've cleaned it
[8:48pm] * Sorgi nods
[8:48pm] <14Sorgi> I had to really. I had to cut it out.
[8:49pm] * @Morgan nods
[8:51pm] * Sorgi shakes his head
[8:51pm] <14Sorgi> It looked like it'd been in him for weeks!
[8:52pm] * Sorgi looks briefly around the courtyard before looking back to the Veisgraf
[8:52pm] * @Morgan watches him
[8:52pm] <14Sorgi> How is she, m'Lord?
[8:53pm] <04@Morgan> better
[8:53pm] * Sorgi smiles slightly
[8:55pm] <14Sorgi> Good. My sister was attacked when I was just a lad, not long before I joined the navy. That treatment of women makes my blood boil
[8:55pm] * @Morgan nods
[8:55pm] <04@Morgan> quite, yet they seemed to believe it was acceptable
[8:57pm] <14Sorgi> Disgusting. I could have killed the *there is the briefest of pauses in the rhythm of his speech* soldiers who did it.
[8:57pm] <04@Morgan> objectionists, I assume?
[8:57pm] * Sorgi nods slightly
[8:58pm] <14Sorgi> Sorry, M'Lord.
[8:58pm] <04@Morgan> not exactly in line with the teachings of either denomination
[8:58pm] * Sorgi shakes his head
[8:59pm] <14Sorgi> I saw men from both sides raping and murdering women during the war
[8:59pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:00pm] <04@Morgan> I know of a man who saw it happening, and he drove a dagger into the mans skull... objectionist killing objectionist
[9:01pm] <14Sorgi> As it should be, in my opinion. Nothing better than wild animals, men like that.
[9:02pm] <04@Morgan> at least the animals don't claim to be civilised
[9:02pm] <14Sorgi> Very true M'Lord.
[9:02pm] * Sorgi nods
[9:03pm] <14Sorgi> My sister was alright after a few weeks, and she was nothing like as brave as your wife, if you don't mind me saying
[9:05pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:05pm] <04@Morgan> She's a remarkable woman
[9:05pm] * Sorgi nods
[9:06pm] <14Sorgi> I'm just glad I got there in time M'Lord
[9:06pm] <04@Morgan> so am I, Sorgi... so am I
[9:07pm] * Sorgi looks quite serious
[9:08pm] <14Sorgi> Where I'm from, we have a code of honour that if someone saves your life, you stick with them regardless of circumstance, til you can return the favour.
[9:09pm] * @Morgan watches him
[9:09pm] <04@Morgan> sounds like you're wanting to leave
[9:10pm] <14Sorgi> No. Much as I believe I've fulfilled that duty today, there are four reasons I want to stay
[9:13pm] * @Morgan rasies an eyebrow
[9:13pm] <14Sorgi> First, I have nowhere else to go. Second, I like the idea of getting back on deck again. Third, I quite you and your Veisgrafin...
[9:16pm] <14Sorgi> Lastly, I know I've mentioned this rule to Lady Koertig before, and if I was leaving she'd know I think that they would definitely have killed her if it weren't for me. And I wouldn't want to scare or upset her like that.
[9:17pm] <04@Morgan> that's very considerate of you
[9:17pm] * Sorgi shrugs a little
[9:19pm] <14Sorgi> I feel quite protective of her. Like she's kin. **he looks a bit uneasy* not that she'd have lowly kin like me, of course. It's hard to explain.
[9:20pm] <04@Morgan> Sorgi, you need to stop tiptoeing around me... I'm not what you'd call your usual noble person
[9:21pm] <14Sorgi> It's how I was raised M'Lord. If you didn't show respect to your betters, you got whipped
[9:22pm] <04@Morgan> betters is a relative term
[9:22pm] <14Sorgi> Well, noble people in general
[9:23pm] <04@Morgan> in my experience, title isn't necessarily a reliable measure of a person
[9:23pm] * Sorgi nods
[9:24pm] <14Sorgi> Not much noble about those montaigne bastards expect their name, clothes, wealth and heritage...
[9:25pm] <04@Morgan> I wouldn't know about their wealth and heritage
[9:26pm] <14Sorgi> They had a hundred guilders between em M'Lord, and one had a letter addressed to Lord Marc Guillerme
[9:27pm] <04@Morgan> You still have them?
[9:28pm] * Sorgi hands them over
[9:28pm] * @Morgan opens the letter
[9:31pm] <14Sorgi> **its already open** Marc, best go to the mistress. Once the wife is dead Leon will seize Armiens and Athos will no longer be a Comte. Get what you can from the Eisen bitch while you can. Philippe.
[9:33pm] <04@Morgan> Philippe.... oh we're going to have words
[9:34pm] * Sorgi looks confused
[9:34pm] <14Sorgi> M'Lord?
[9:34pm] <04@Morgan> a bitch she may be, but no montaigne egotist insults my family
[9:36pm] <14Sorgi> I haven't read it, M'Lord, so I couldn't say
[9:36pm] * @Morgan reads it aloud
[9:36pm] <14Sorgi> That's hardly fair.
[9:37pm] <04@Morgan> it seems that my cousin has been paying this man's debts for some time
[9:38pm] * Sorgi nods
[9:38pm] <14Sorgi> It sounds that way
[9:40pm] <14Sorgi> Do you still want the bodies sent back to montaigne, M'Lord?
[9:41pm] * @Morgan shakes his head
[9:41pm] <04@Morgan> No. They don't deserve to rest at home.
[9:43pm] * Sorgi nods
[9:43pm] <14Sorgi> I agree.
[9:45pm] <14Sorgi> Shall I ask Karl and Ulath to dig some graves?
[9:45pm] <04@Morgan> preferably vertical
[9:45pm] <14Sorgi> Vertical, M'Lord?
[9:45pm] <04@Morgan> bury them head down
[9:46pm] * Sorgi nods
[9:46pm] <14Sorgi> As you wish, M'Lord
[9:51pm] <14Sorgi> So they can see the way as they head to hell, M'Lord?
[9:51pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:51pm] <04@Morgan> exactly
[9:53pm] * Sorgi smiles.
[9:54pm] <14Sorgi> Shall I remove anything that may be of use to people here? Boots, jewelry?
[9:54pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:54pm] <04@Morgan> aye, best had
[9:54pm] * Sorgi nods. He's quiet briefly before speaking
[9:55pm] <14Sorgi> There's just one thing I can't understand
[9:55pm] <04@Morgan> oh?
[9:56pm] <14Sorgi> Glad as I am that I did, why did I suddenly get the urge to go in the house and upstairs? I was nowhere near at the time, and had no reason to be there
[9:59pm] <04@Morgan> I spent a lot of time in Avalon... an awful lot of things happen there for no apparent reason... eventually it made sense to just accept that it happens
[10:01pm] <14Sorgi> /Me nods
[10:02pm] <14Sorgi> Maybe your wife has a guardian angel who sent me her way
[10:03pm] <04@Morgan> it wouldn't be the most unusual thing I've encountered, that's for sure
[10:04pm] * Sorgi nods
[10:04pm] <14Sorgi> Is there anything else I can do for you?
[10:05pm] <04@Morgan> keep it to yourself... I don't want it common knowledge that someone attacked her
[10:06pm] * Sorgi nods as if this was obvious
[10:08pm] <14Sorgi> Of course. Ghalen and Heinrich went off to check all the boundaries and outbuildings for any signs of disturbance, but they only know two men got in and were dealt with.
[10:09pm] * @Morgan nods
[10:09pm] <04@Morgan> good
[10:09pm] * Sorgi nods
[10:10pm] <14Sorgi> I'll be out in the eastern most field with Karl and Ulath if I'm needed, M'Lord
[10:11pm] * @Morgan nods
[10:11pm] <04@Morgan> thank you Sorgi
[10:11pm] <14Sorgi> You're welcome M'Lord
[10:13pm] * Sorgi smiles
[10:14pm] <14Sorgi> After all, she saved my life first. Besides, no man with honour could leave a woman in distress.
[10:14pm] * @Morgan nods
[10:15pm] * Sorgi bows, heading off to start digging

[8:46pm] <14crys> A few hours have passed since the attack and his conversation with Sorgi who went to bury the bodies with Karl and Ulath. He still hasn't seen Heinrich or Ghalen again. Last time he passed that part of the house, he could see Molly in the drawing room through the window, busily working. The afternoon has remained warm and sunny.
[8:48pm] * @Morgan wanders the grounds
[8:48pm] [8:48pm] crys (~forrester@94.3.xpi.zsn) is now known as Walder
[8:50pm] * Walder walks along whistling to himself. He leads a pair of fine sleek black horses in bright yellow livery. He doesn't spot Morgan at first
[8:50pm] * @Morgan watches him for a moment, staying quiet
[8:51pm] * Walder looks up, and the whistling stops. He heads towards Morgan with the stallions in tow.
[8:54pm] <14Walder> Milord **he inclines his head*
[8:54pm] * @Morgan nods to him
[8:54pm] <04@Morgan> Walder...
[8:54pm] * Walder stops, and the horses stop too. They are impressive, well bred horses
[8:55pm] <14Walder> Heinrich said you'd probably be wanting these brought to the stable
[8:55pm] * @Morgan looks them over
[8:56pm] <04@Morgan> ah, yes...
[8:56pm] * Walder nods
[8:57pm] <14Walder> Ghalen says they're Oardinian Palaminos, he seemed very impressed
[8:58pm] * @Morgan nods
[8:58pm] <04@Morgan> That means not a lot to me... they're good looking, mind
[8:59pm] * Walder nods
[8:59pm] <14Walder> Expensive I'd reckon
[9:00pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:00pm] <04@Morgan> What I do know is they're supposed to be fast
[9:04pm] <14Walder> Took a while to catch them, until I tried speaking montaigne in case they were connected to the girl
[9:04pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:05pm] <04@Morgan> Good idea
[9:05pm] * Walder turns serious
[9:05pm] <14Walder> Heinrich told me what happened
[9:05pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:06pm] <04@Morgan> keep it to yourself
[9:06pm] * Walder nods
[9:06pm] <14Walder> Of course Milord. How is she?
[9:06pm] <04@Morgan> Better, thankfully...
[9:07pm] * Walder nods. He watches Morgan hesitantly, looking briefly around
[9:08pm] <14Walder> I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds, Milord, but I...I wondered how _you_ are?
[9:10pm] <04@Morgan> angry mostly
[9:11pm] * Walder nods
[9:12pm] <14Walder> Understandable, Milord. I think I have been terrified
[9:12pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:13pm] <04@Morgan> Now I've got to work out how to salvage the political mess
[9:13pm] <14Walder> It's a mess?
[9:14pm] * @Morgan nods slowly
[9:15pm] <04@Morgan> I think so... I'm the steward, in place at the Eisenfursts discretion... and I've punished two men of the crown who claim to know the emporer... I'd say thats a fair sized mess
[9:16pm] * Walder nods
[9:16pm] <14Walder> I suppose so, when you look at it like that
[9:16pm] <04@Morgan> I suppose the measure of any decision is, knowing the consequences, whether you'd make the same choice
[9:17pm] <14Walder> And would you, Milord?
[9:17pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:18pm] <04@Morgan> in a heartbeat
[9:18pm] <14Walder> What's the worst that could happen?
[9:19pm] * @Morgan thinks for a moment
[9:19pm] <04@Morgan> Montaigne goes to war with Eisen...
[9:20pm] <04@Morgan> the emporer could demand my head...
[9:20pm] * Walder pales
[9:21pm] <14Walder> I hadn't thought of those, Milord
[9:21pm] * @Morgan shrugs
[9:22pm] <04@Morgan> I don't expect it'll come to that, but I've no doubt I'll be expected to do some fast talking... or apologising
[9:22pm] * Walder looks thoughtful
[9:22pm] <14Walder> Depends how honest you want to be, really
[9:23pm] <04@Morgan> I don't lie... I might not tell the truth, but I wont lie... besides, given that I had everyone from the Eisenfurst down to every day folk doing manual labour, I'm sure I can limit the damage
[9:24pm] * Walder nods
[9:24pm] <14Walder> I reckon so, Milord
[9:26pm] <14Walder> Them montaigne, they like the guillotines...
[9:26pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:26pm] <04@Morgan> aye
[9:28pm] <14Walder> Thats what they did to my wife's grandfather, chopped his head off in the royal square in the capital city, in front of thousands of people. Shocking business.
[9:30pm] * @Morgan looks at Walder
[9:30pm] <04@Morgan> he was aristocracy?
[9:31pm] * Walder nods
[9:33pm] <14Walder> I think so. Rochelle didn't talk much about the past, it made her too sad. "don't look back, just look at the future we have ahead" she used to say...
[9:33pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:33pm] <04@Morgan> I can understand that
[9:34pm] * Walder smiles somewhat half-heartedly
[9:35pm] <14Walder> If there really is a heaven, we'll have our future there.
[9:36pm] <04@Morgan> If?
[9:36pm] <14Walder> Who knows these things for certain, Milord?
[9:37pm] * @Morgan shrugs
[9:38pm] <04@Morgan> I could quote something suitably religious, but knowing skepticism as I have, I know well it'll do nowt...
[9:38pm] * Walder smiles
[9:38pm] <14Walder> I'd rather be pleasantly surprised than bitterly disappointed
[9:39pm] <14Walder> **the horses start to get restless
[9:39pm] <04@Morgan> best get them settled away
[9:39pm] * Walder nods
[9:39pm] <14Walder> Were you going back that way, Milord?
[9:40pm] <04@Morgan> I can do, I was being purposefully aimless
[9:41pm] <14Walder> Why, Milord? **he looks embarrassed** not that it's my place to ask
[9:41pm] * Walder starts walking back
[9:42pm] <04@Morgan> You've never wandered just for the sake of wandering?
[9:43pm] <14Walder> Not since before Jacques was born, Milord
[9:44pm] <04@Morgan> make some time to... I thought I'd best do it now since I suspect the next few weeks are going to be full of work
[9:45pm] <14Walder> I'll try, Milord. The boy and I will help as much as we can
[9:46pm] <04@Morgan> I know you will... at least now we'll have an overseer who isn't bone idle
[9:46pm] <14Walder> Is Heinrich to be the new overseer?
[9:47pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:48pm] <14Walder> Good, he seems smart but honest, Milord
[9:49pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:49pm] <04@Morgan> he's a good man
[9:49pm] <14Walder> And Ghalen will be the sheriff?
[9:50pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:51pm] <14Walder> He's a good lad. A little shy around...nobility, but good with the villagers
[9:52pm] <04@Morgan> Thats the main thing, I think... while we're travelling he'll be doing more of the latter than the former anyway
[9:52pm] * Walder nods
[9:52pm] <14Walder> Innesbruck was a nice place once
[9:53pm] <04@Morgan> It will be again...
[9:54pm] <14Walder> Once we've managed a decent harvest, things will improve
[9:54pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:54pm] <04@Morgan> there's going to be a lot of hard work in the meantime
[9:56pm] * Walder nods
[9:56pm] <14Walder> Most people here don't mind that
[9:56pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:57pm] <04@Morgan> Good
[9:58pm] <14Walder> The baroness definitely won't take the stewardship back?
[9:59pm] <04@Morgan> No.
[10:00pm] <14Walder> So it'll be you until young baron eldreich is of age?
[10:00pm] <04@Morgan> Thats the plan
[10:01pm] * Walder nods
[10:01pm] <04@Morgan> Though, if all goes to plan, he'll be here with us
[10:01pm] <14Walder> To help him get ready, Milord?
[10:02pm] * @Morgan shakes his head
[10:02pm] <04@Morgan> No, because we're trying to adopt him
[10:03pm] * Walder looks shocked, then covers it
[10:04pm] <14Walder> That'd probably be better for him, Milord
[10:04pm] * @Morgan nods
[10:04pm] <04@Morgan> Given my cousins treatment of him... aye.
[10:05pm] <14Walder> Jacques said he often heard her scolding and belittling the poor lad
[10:07pm] * @Morgan nods
[10:08pm] <04@Morgan> I don't think she really knew what to do
[10:08pm] * Walder shrugs slightly
[10:09pm] <14Walder> I shouldn't really voice an opinion on your cousins conduct, Milord
[10:09pm] * @Morgan looks at him
[10:09pm] <04@Morgan> Say what you think, Walder
[10:10pm] * Walder looks at him a moment, trying to decide
[10:10pm] <14Walder> Alright
[10:10pm] * Walder takes a deep breath
[10:12pm] <14Walder> I think she was a horrendous employer and a useless mother. She used her husband's death as an excuse to behave as badly as she pleased. She used her 'grief' to justify shunning her son. And I say this as a man who has loved and raised a child whose birth took away a beloved wife.
[10:14pm] * @Morgan nods
[10:14pm] <04@Morgan> then we're of the same opinion...
[10:14pm] * Walder smiles a little
[10:16pm] <14Walder> It always irked me that she constantly reminded everyone how she was mourning. I wanted to shake her and remind her that some of us had no choice but to get up each day and survive, even when our hearts were breaking.
[10:17pm] <04@Morgan> I suspect that would've ended badly
[10:17pm] * Walder nods
[10:17pm] <14Walder> If I hadn't had the boy to think of, I would have done it though.
[10:18pm] * @Morgan nods
[10:21pm] <14Walder> Some people say I don't suffer fools gladly because I don't like the competition
[10:21pm] * @Morgan laughs
[10:21pm] <04@Morgan> I don't peg you for a fool Walder...
[10:23pm] <14Walder> Thank you, Milord, but I accepted a long time ago that I'm not very clever. I believe it's more important to be a loyal person than a smart one
[10:24pm] <04@Morgan> I once heard someone referred to as simple... in the same way as a sword is simple... perhaps you're the same
[10:26pm] * Walder looks thoughtful
[10:26pm] <14Walder> Perhaps I am
[10:28pm] * @Morgan nods slowly
[10:29pm] <14Walder> **they get back to the courtyard
[10:32pm] <14Walder> Is there anything you need me to do, Milord?
[10:32pm] * @Morgan shrugs
[10:32pm] <04@Morgan> you know what you're doing with these things
[10:34pm] * Walder nods
[10:35pm] <14Walder> I'll get the horses rubbed down. **he bows*
[10:35pm] <04@Morgan> good man
[10:35pm] * @Morgan nods to him and heads into the house

[8:36pm] * Molly is sat in the drawing room working, an amused smile on her face. The door is open
[8:36pm] * @Morgan taps on it slightly as he enters the room
[8:38pm] * Molly looks up, pleased to see him. She pours a second cup of coffee for him
[8:39pm] <14Molly> You are able to stay a while?
[8:39pm] * @Morgan nods
[8:39pm] <04@Morgan> Then I'll need to have a think where best to sell some horses
[8:45pm] * Molly looks surprised
[8:45pm] <14Molly> Sell the horses?!
[8:45pm] <04@Morgan> not ours....
[8:48pm] * Molly looks relieved
[8:48pm] <14Molly> Fischler perhaps?
[8:49pm] <04@Morgan> I don't know he'd want to pay what they're worth
[8:51pm] <14Molly> I meant the city... *she tilts her head* how much they're worth?
[8:51pm] * @Morgan nods, picking up the coffee
[8:54pm] * Molly does likewise
[8:54pm] <14Molly> What are they?
[8:54pm] <04@Morgan> expensive
[8:54pm] * Molly laughs
[8:55pm] <14Molly> Freiburg, or even Carleon?
[8:55pm] * @Morgan nods
[8:55pm] <04@Morgan> possibly
[8:55pm] <04@Morgan> I'd like to move them quickly, the money would be awfully useful here
[8:55pm] * Molly looks intrigued
[8:56pm] <14Molly> I'd like to see them before you do... We're due in Freiburg in about two weeks, is that fast enough?
[8:57pm] * @Morgan nods
[8:57pm] <04@Morgan> it'll have to be
[8:57pm] * Molly nods
[8:57pm] <14Molly> If they're valuable, it's best to take them personally
[8:58pm] * @Morgan nods
[8:58pm] <04@Morgan> probably best

[9:02pm] <14Molly> Are they from Koln? Karsten used to breed horses, did he not?
[9:03pm] <04@Morgan> No, they're not... they're from montaigne
[9:03pm] <14Molly> Ah.
[9:04pm] * Molly sips her coffee
[9:04pm] <14Molly> Montaigne horses aren't really worth much usually
[9:05pm] <04@Morgan> they're Oardinian Palaminos
[9:06pm] * Molly looks impressed
[9:06pm] <14Molly> I've heard of those
[9:07pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:07pm] <04@Morgan> Ghalen is rather impressed apparently
[9:08pm] * Molly nods
[9:08pm] <14Molly> Do you have two?
[9:08pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:12pm] <14Molly> And you don't wish to keep them?
[9:13pm] <04@Morgan> No... I have a horse, so do you, I dont want the reminder of what their owners tried to do... and the money would be useful here
[9:14pm] * Molly blushes, looking a little ashamed
[9:14pm] <14Molly> I understand
[9:15pm] <14Molly> We will get to ride them though? *she looks excited*
[9:16pm] <04@Morgan> I don't see why not....
[9:16pm] <14Molly> Now? *she grins*
[9:16pm] <04@Morgan> I thought you were busy?
[9:17pm] * Molly looks at the paperwork
[9:18pm] <14Molly> I was mostly trying to compile a projection of the running costs and income of Innesbruck in varying scenarios
[9:18pm] <04@Morgan> ah... in that case, now is fine
[9:18pm] * Molly smiles
[9:18pm] <14Molly> I do have two potential plans worked out
[9:21pm] * Molly finishes her coffee, tidying the paperwork into a locked drawer
[9:23pm] <14Molly> Shall we?
[9:23pm] * @Morgan nods, heading out the door
[9:24pm] <14Molly> **he starts to hear a faint rumbling as they head towards the door
[9:24pm] * @Morgan sighs
[9:24pm] <04@Morgan> surely not a storm
[9:27pm] <14Molly> **it increases, more consistent than thunder. In the sound he hears hooves and wheels
[9:27pm] * @Morgan opens the door, peering outside

[9:49pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:49pm] <04@Morgan> apparently
[9:50pm] * Molly grins
[9:50pm] <14Molly> Do you know where everyone is?
[9:50pm] <04@Morgan> Not off the top of my head, but I would imagine they're findable
[9:51pm] * Molly nods
[9:51pm] <14Molly> I need to find some papers and then direct the carts to the village hall
[9:51pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:52pm] <04@Morgan> I'll see who I can round up
[9:52pm] <14Molly> As many as possible, please. It's going to be heavy work.
[9:53pm] * @Morgan nods, heading off to the stables to look for Walder
[9:53pm] <14Molly> **he hears voices before he sees anyone
[9:56pm] * @Morgan looks around to see where the voices come from
[9:57pm] <14Molly> K: That was pretty brutal. I guess that's what he'd do to us if we tried to run. U: Or worse. Besides, it's not that bad here. K: drink and wenches would improve it. U: well, hell's your only other option... They might have drink and wenches there. **they both laugh, backs to Morgan*
[9:58pm] * @Morgan speaks quietly
[9:58pm] <04@Morgan> I think you'll find I told you I'd shoot you...
[9:59pm] <14Molly> **they both jump* K: sorry, my lord, I didn't mean any offense
[10:00pm] <04@Morgan> My body count since our arrival is currently four... I'd rather not add to that, so don't give me reason to.
[10:03pm] <14Molly> **they both nod, looking genuinely sorry. Ulath hands him a bag of guilders.* found this on one of them, my lord
[10:04pm] * @Morgan nods, taking the bag
[10:05pm] <04@Morgan> the provisions we asked for have arrived... The carts will be sent to the village hall where, I'm assured, much heavy work is to be done. I'd appeciate your being there to help, along with any of the others you might find along the way
[10:05pm] <14Molly> *they both bow* yes my lord
[10:09pm] <14Molly> **a short while later, he arrives at the hall. Having only found Jacques who had been told to stay and prepare dinner, he gave up looking for sorgi walder ghalen or heinrich
[10:11pm] <14Molly> **it seems quiet in the village, a few people watch him with curiosity
[10:12pm] * @Morgan wanders into the hall, seemingly nonchalent
[10:16pm] * Molly stands in the doorway of the large room off the hall, taking an inventory of food stuffs against family names. He can't see into the room, her back to him
[10:17pm] <04@Morgan> hows it coming along?
[10:17pm] * Molly turns, smiling
[10:18pm] <14Molly> Well, I think
[10:19pm] * Molly hands the note to Walder who has approached her
[10:20pm] <14Molly> Could you and Sorgi continue a moment?
[10:21pm] <14Molly> **he nods, looking a bit flustered** ummm yes, I think so
[10:21pm] * Molly looks a little confused
[10:22pm] <14Molly> W: I'll sort the piles, Sorgi can do the checking
[10:23pm] <04@Morgan> Pass it on to Sorgi, Walder, I'd like him to get a bit of practice organising before he sets foot on my ship
[10:24pm] <14Molly> W*he nods gratefully and goes back to work. Molly frowns a little, stepping away from the threshold
[10:26pm] <14Molly> That was careless of me
[10:26pm] * @Morgan shrugs slightly
[10:26pm] * Molly chews at the corner of her lower lip
[10:27pm] <04@Morgan> I've seen him writing...
[10:28pm] <14Molly> Competently?
[10:28pm] * @Morgan shrugs again
[10:28pm] <04@Morgan> couldn't say
[10:29pm] * Molly nods
[10:30pm] <14Molly> I've come so far from being.... *she looks around a moment, seeing no-one* in the last eighteen months, sometimes I forget the simple things
[10:30pm] <04@Morgan> its easily done
[10:30pm] * Molly looks saddened
[10:31pm] <14Molly> I'm not sure I'm entirely comfortable with that
[10:31pm] * @Morgan watches her for a moment
[10:31pm] <04@Morgan> good
[10:32pm] * Molly tilts her head
[10:32pm] <14Molly> Good?
[10:34pm] <04@Morgan> half the fight in helping people is to understand where they are and come from...
[10:34pm] * Molly smiles gently
[10:34pm] <14Molly> That is true
[10:37pm] <14Molly> There are moments when I forget where I came from, as if I am who and where I belong now
[10:38pm] * @Morgan nods
[10:39pm] * Molly blushes a little
[10:40pm] <14Molly> Now if I can just get this right this evening, hopefully I can prove that I am capable as a veisgrafin
[10:41pm] <04@Morgan> I dont think you need to prove that to anyone but yourself
[10:42pm] * Molly nods, eyes downcast
[10:43pm] <14Molly> I am my own worst enemy?
[10:44pm] <04@Morgan> you're your own harshest critic...
[10:46pm] <14Molly> I'm not so sure. I rather the Rebecca and Kai were worse
[10:46pm] <14Molly> The=think
[10:47pm] <04@Morgan> thats an act so they don't get looked at too closely
[10:47pm] * Molly looks up with a smile and a brief shrug
[10:48pm] <14Molly> With luck, we'll never see them again
[10:48pm] * @Morgan nods
[10:48pm] <04@Morgan> I don't think they'd appreciate... well, me.
[10:48pm] * Molly looks intrigued
[10:49pm] <14Molly> They've already met you though
[10:49pm] <04@Morgan> They'd met an arrogant, complicated servant who claimed to be a lord... the reality isn't necessarily what was expected
[10:50pm] <14Molly> And now?
[10:50pm] <04@Morgan> Now I'm someone that actually has the authority to throw around, and the willingness to do it
[10:50pm] * Molly smiles playfully
[10:51pm] <14Molly> And would you?
[10:51pm] <04@Morgan> throw some authority around? absolutely
[10:51pm] * Molly raises an eyebrow
[10:51pm] <14Molly> Because they annoyed you?
[10:52pm] <04@Morgan> Because they deserve it
[10:52pm] <14Molly> For their arrogance?
[10:52pm] * @Morgan nods
[10:53pm] <04@Morgan> amongst other things, aye
[10:53pm] * Molly smiles, giggling
[10:53pm] <14Molly> For my honour?
[10:54pm] <04@Morgan> and that... and the fact they just annoy me
[10:54pm] * Molly nods
[10:55pm] <14Molly> I've asked Heinrich and Ghalen to ask the villagers to come
[10:55pm] * @Morgan nods
[10:55pm] <04@Morgan> there were a few odd looks directed my way as I came through the village
[10:56pm] <14Molly> You are rather striking, liebling
[10:56pm] <04@Morgan> I said odd, not admiring...
[10:57pm] * Molly smiles
[10:58pm] <14Molly> Do you think they'll attend at my request?
[10:58pm] <04@Morgan> We'll see, wont we
[10:59pm] * Molly casts a quick glance towards the other room, then looks at him
[10:59pm] <14Molly> They won't be offended, will they? The people here?
[10:59pm] <04@Morgan> I don't think so, no
[11:00pm] * Molly nods solemnly
[11:01pm] <14Molly> Good. I know how awfully proud and rigid you eiseners can be
[11:02pm] * Molly smiles, blushing
[11:02pm] * @Morgan nods slightly
[11:03pm] <14Molly> I didn't mean it to sound quite so...*she searches for the word*
[11:03pm] <04@Morgan> rude?
[11:03pm] * Molly nods
[11:04pm] <14Molly> I'd best return to work. Fifty families worth of provisions takes much sorting
[11:05pm] * @Morgan nods
[11:05pm] <04@Morgan> alright blossom
[11:05pm] * Molly kisses his cheek briefly
[11:08pm] <14Molly> **she returns to working in the other room. Over the next half an hour, people arrive slowly, the final few ushered in by Ghalen and Heinrich. Heinrich goes in to see Molly, and Ghalen comes to Morgan
[11:08pm] [11:08pm] Molly (~forrester@176.25.vz.qz) is now known as Ghalen
[11:09pm] * Ghalen 's voice is soft though the chat of around 70 people is loud
[11:10pm] <14Ghalen> My lord, someone from each household is here now, as Lady Koertig requested
[11:10pm] * @Morgan nods
[11:10pm] <04@Morgan> good
[11:10pm] <14Ghalen> **he blushes a little upon saying her name*
[11:11pm] <14Ghalen> Ulath and Karl have carts ready to help, and we're all ready to lift and carry, my lord
[11:13pm] <04@Morgan> Excellent, thats what I like to hear... lets go see what we can do to help, shall we?
[11:13pm] <14Ghalen> H: **he approaches through the crowd. People stop him to say hello, and he appears well liked*
[11:14pm] <14Ghalen> H: Lady Molly asked me to come and find you, my lord
[11:14pm] <04@Morgan> and so you have....
[11:17pm] <14Ghalen> **soon the six of them are stood in the second room. Arranged in a grid, sets of food are each marked with a family name alphabetically. To each house is a sack of grain, several loaves, cheese, meat, wine, vegetables. It is a shocking amount of food, enough to see careful families through the next few weeks
[11:19pm] <14Ghalen> ** against the far wall, a sizeable pile remains, different to the others in terms of the variety of goods
[11:20pm] * Ghalen smiles at Morgan
[11:20pm] <14Ghalen> **molly
[11:20pm] [11:20pm] Ghalen (~forrester@176.25.vz.qz) is now known as Molly
[11:20pm] <14Molly> Is everyone here, liebes herz?
[11:21pm] <04@Morgan> Ghalen tells me so, aye
[11:24pm] <14Molly> **the lad flushes as she gives him a brief smile before turning back to her husband* I had thought that we might allow each family to take their goods in turn, and everyone will help the people home who need it *she looks at the assembled group* it could take some time *she looks to Morgan*
[11:24pm] * @Morgan nods slowly
[11:24pm] <04@Morgan> definitely in turn, we don't want a mob trying to get in here
[11:25pm] * Molly nods
[11:26pm] <14Molly> Maybe we should bring each family's out in turn? We do not want to mix them up as I was quite careful to work out the requirements of each family
[11:27pm] * @Morgan nods
[11:27pm] <04@Morgan> sounds like a good idea
[11:28pm] * Molly smiles. Though she appears in control, he can see the hints of nervousness and self-doubt in the familiar blue eyes
[11:29pm] <14Molly> Perhaps you would explain what is to happen?
[11:30pm] * @Morgan watches her for a few moments
[11:31pm] * @Morgan turns and moves into the main hall, dragging a table to a spot against the wall before sitting on it
[11:32pm] <04@Morgan> Ladies and gentlemen, I'm informed we have a member of each household here... first, allow me to apologise for interrupting your afternoon by bringing you here yet again
[11:33pm] <14Molly> **they mostly look curious rather than annoyed
[11:37pm] * Molly and the others watch him too
[11:38pm] <04@Morgan> We've had a delivery of some supplies that, if you're careful with them, should last you a little while... My wife has done a lot of work in making sure you have the right things for your particular famillies, depending on your circumstances... each family will receive some, so there's no need to be getting jealous. Am I understood?
[11:39pm] <14Molly> **they nod, a mix of surprise and eagerness
[11:40pm] <04@Morgan> This'll take some time, so you'll need to be patient. We've got a list that we're going to work with, so when your name is called, come up here and we'll sort things out from there
[11:41pm] <14Molly> **they all talk excitedly
[11:43pm] * Molly watches him with an affectionate smile
[11:43pm] <14Molly> **someone in the crowd speaks* excuse me, Milord?
[11:43pm] * @Morgan looks to them
[11:44pm] <04@Morgan> yes?
[11:45pm] <14Molly> *hes about Morgans age* well, will the rents and taxes go up to pay for this? *there's a murmur of disappointed frustration from the room
[11:46pm] * @Morgan shakes his head
[11:46pm] <04@Morgan> As I said before, the taxes and whatnot are being looked into to try to bring them to a fair level, rather than the extortion they've been so far... you all received your jewellery back I trust?
[11:47pm] <14Molly> ** there is cheering and clapping to confirm this
[11:50pm] <14Molly> **ghalen and, heinrich move a table near the entrance to the second room. The faint noise catches the attention of a few, and quickly whispered words pass between people as they see the veisgrafin and her notorious red hair
[11:51pm] * Molly is too busy with sorgi to notice
[11:51pm] <04@Morgan> So then, talk amongst yourselves and we'll be underway shortly
[11:53pm] <14Molly> **they do so, and Heinrich approaches Morgan
[11:54pm] <14Molly> She's done a good job in there, my lord
[11:54pm] * @Morgan nods
[11:54pm] <04@Morgan> She's a bright lass
[11:55pm] <14Molly> **he lowers his voice* how is she?
[11:56pm] <04@Morgan> Soldiering on
[11:56pm] <14Molly> **he nods
[11:57pm] <14Molly> Good. Hopefully this will take her mind of it
[11:58pm] <04@Morgan> we can hope so
Session Time: Mon Feb 10 00:00:01 2014
[12:00am] <14Molly> ** at the table, Molly opens a silvery wrapped box, about large enough for a pair of shoes. She smiles, looking at her papers

[8:32pm] * Molly slowly unwraps a box sheathed in silver paper, smiling. She nods to Walder, who calls the first family. Briefly she talks with them before removing something small from the box and wrapping it in a scrap of paper, handing it over as the couple carry the provisions out
[8:36pm] * @Morgan watches her interact with the villagers, and their reaction to he
[8:43pm] * Molly is entirely focused on each person she speaks to, smiling and conversing easily. The villagers react in various ways, shy respect or friendly camaraderie. Some are so obviously grateful that he sees she is on the verge of tears as she happily hands over the food. Everyone is given a little wrapped package from the box
[8:46pm] * @Morgan walks to her slowly
[8:47pm] * Molly is talking to an older man, frowning ever-so-slightly
[8:47pm] * @Morgan stops just behind Molly, off to one side slightly
[8:49pm] <14Molly> It really isn't charity, sir. I think of it as a symbol of our intent to work with you all to make Innesbruck prosperous once more, our gratitude in advance for the hard work you'll all put in to making that happen, and as a restitution for what has happened previously
[8:50pm] <14Molly> **he nods, but still looks a little unsure* It hurts the pride of a man to take handouts to feed his family though
[8:51pm] <04@Morgan> It takes a strong man to accept the help he needs...
[8:51pm] * Molly jumps a little, not expecting him. She nods
[8:52pm] <14Molly> That it does
[8:52pm] <04@Morgan> and regardless... you've paid well over the odds until now, so consider it part of the repayment you're owed
[8:52pm] <14Molly> Man: **he nods a little** I suppose so
[8:53pm] * Molly smiles briefly at Morgan, then speaks to the man
[8:55pm] <14Molly> If it makes you feel any better, we at the manor were also in need of this to arrive today as the six remaining potatoes were not going to feed nine of us!
[8:56pm] <14Molly> Man: **he smiles** it does a little, yes, thank you Milady
[8:57pm] * Molly hands him a little package and Sorgi takes out his food to the cart. She smiles as he leaves, crossing through another entry on her list
[9:00pm] <14Molly> **Walder accidentally bumps into her from behind as he's lifting a sack. Immediately there is an instinctive flash of fear and a flinch which, although brief, is noticeable to Morgan
[9:00pm] * @Morgan places a hand on her arm gently
[9:04pm] * Molly smiles briefly. Walder apologises profusely, which she reassures him is unnecessary
[9:07pm] * Molly returns to the task at hand, and soon Morgan finds himself off discussing the falcons with Henning.
[9:08pm] <14Molly> H: I hope you will come and fly them again
[9:09pm] <04@Morgan> absolutely, I've always enjoyed flying them
[9:11pm] <14Molly> H: Perhaps before harvesting starts? Unfortunately I'll be quite busy then. Though you could take them alone, milord?
[9:11pm] <04@Morgan> we'll see how they take to me before that I think...
[9:16pm] <14Molly> **he nods. Movement at the table catches his attention, and for a fraction of a second he can't breathe and his mind plays tricks on him. The straight flaxen hair of the woman his new wife speaks to once again arrests him in its similarity, moreso when contrasted with the deep red curls. It is somewhat of a shock, even though his logical brain knows it couldn't ever be Dietlinde.
[9:18pm] <14Molly> H: Milord? You look a bit pale?
[9:18pm] * @Morgan shakes his head
[9:19pm] <04@Morgan> sorry... thought I saw someone
[9:20pm] <14Molly> H: **he nods* if you'll excuse me, I think I'll be called next, milord
[9:20pm] <04@Morgan> of course
[9:20pm] * @Morgan smiles
[9:23pm] <14Molly> *he wanders off. Molly has finished speaking to Hildegarde, now talking to someone he doesn't know
[9:23pm] * @Morgan wanders slowly towards her, looking the crowd over
[9:25pm] <14Molly> **there aren't many people left now, around fifteen
[9:30pm] <14Molly> **they all seem quite cheerful
[9:30pm] * @Morgan walks to Molly, speaking quietly
[9:30pm] <04@Morgan> all well?
[9:31pm] * Molly nods, moving to one side as she asks Heinrich to take over. She stands beside Morgan
[9:31pm] <14Molly> Yes, and with you?
[9:32pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:32pm] <04@Morgan> you met Hildegarde...
[9:34pm] * Molly looks thoughtful
[9:34pm] <14Molly> Did I?
[9:34pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:36pm] <14Molly> Not everyone is listed in the taxes books by their first name
[9:36pm] * Molly smiles softly
[9:36pm] <04@Morgan> no, I suppose not...
[9:38pm] <14Molly> She didnt introduce herself...
[9:39pm] <04@Morgan> she's probably concerned it'll make you uncomfortable
[9:40pm] * Molly nods sadly
[9:40pm] <14Molly> Probably
[9:41pm] <04@Morgan> we'll sort that out when they come for dinner
[9:42pm] * Molly smiles
[9:43pm] <14Molly> We could invite them tomorrow?
[9:43pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:43pm] <04@Morgan> I think that'd be good
[9:47pm] * Molly smiles, watching contentedly as Heinrich helps the last few families and the others haul the goods to their houses. She sighs happily once their task is completed and they are alone in the hall
[9:48pm] <14Molly> I think that went well
[9:48pm] * @Morgan nods
[9:48pm] <04@Morgan> absolutely
[9:51pm] * Molly smiles at him
[9:51pm] <14Molly> And I didn't make any awful blunders
[9:51pm] <04@Morgan> like?
[9:53pm] * Molly laughs softly
[9:53pm] <14Molly> Talking about blackening grates, or any other form of embarrassing you or Sudlachenburg
[9:53pm] * @Morgan shrugs
[9:54pm] <04@Morgan> if nothing else, it'd show we know what proper work is
[9:54pm] * Molly takes his hand, squeezing it
[9:55pm] <14Molly> You've done a great thing for the people here
[9:56pm] <04@Morgan> I've done what was right and nothing more
[10:00pm] <14Molly> What is right and what is normal are not the same though. Many others could have taken the stewardship who would have continued the atrocious taxation. You are a good man, liebling.
[10:00pm] * @Morgan shrugs
[10:00pm] <04@Morgan> I cant abide unfairness
[10:04pm] * Molly nods
[10:05pm] <14Molly> Though in that case, you might not wish to keep the extra things Frau Kinner sent for us
[10:05pm] <04@Morgan> extra things?
[10:08pm] * Molly smiles
[10:08pm] <14Molly> Well, the Vodacce chocolates I have already given away to the village children as a treat...
[10:13pm] * Molly raises a playful eyebrow
[10:13pm] * @Morgan nods
[10:13pm] <04@Morgan> I'll bet they liked that
[10:14pm] <14Molly> Though if you feel you've been deprived of something sweet, I'm sure I can find a substitute
[10:16pm] * @Morgan nods
[10:16pm] <04@Morgan> no doubt
[10:17pm] <14Molly> She also sent us smoked salmon, schwarzenwald gateau and two bottles of champagne
[10:19pm] <04@Morgan> perhaps the smoked salmon could be served tomorrow... the gateau, though, I'm not particularly keen on it
[10:20pm] * Molly giggles
[10:20pm] <14Molly> Even though it's from your homeland?
[10:21pm] * @Morgan shrugs
[10:21pm] <04@Morgan> I'm not terribly fond of chocolate in general
[10:22pm] <14Molly> We can share that with Hildegarde and Rickon also? I'll make you something else?
[10:23pm] * @Morgan nods
[10:23pm] <04@Morgan> that'd be nice
[10:24pm] * Molly nods
[10:25pm] <14Molly> I think we'd best head home... Those six potatoes won't cook themselves
[10:25pm] * Molly grins
[10:25pm] * @Morgan nods
[10:25pm] <04@Morgan> aye, lets get back [22:18] (Molly) [22:15] (MollyK) With provisions for themselves loaded, the veisgraf and his friends returned peacefully to the manor house. Dinner was a cheerful affair, though he could tell that merriment was somewhat for his frequently distracted wife. Before long, good nights have been said, and he finds her alone in the kitchen washing the dishes [22:20] ** MollyK has quit (Ping timeout: 265 seconds) [22:20] (Morgan) that went well... [22:20] * Molly turns a little, nodding [22:21] (Molly) It did [22:21] (Morgan) how are you doing? [22:22] (Molly) I'm almost finished. We really could do with a maid [22:23] * Morgan nods [22:23] (Morgan) thats not quite what I meant [22:23] ** New query from Morgan (Available on submenu 'Windows') [22:24] * Molly appears to tense a little [22:24] (Molly) I have had better days [22:25] * Morgan nods [22:26] * Molly finishes up and turns [22:27] (Molly) I panicked in the hall when I was touched unexpectedly *her gaze drops and she looks a little ashamed* [22:29] * Molly takes two champagne flutes from the dresser, then the bottle itself [22:30] * Morgan nods [22:30] (Morgan) understandable blossom [22:30] * Molly shrugs a little [22:31] (Molly) Perhaps. I do not like it though [22:31] (Morgan) it'll pass I'm sure [22:31] * Molly offers a gentle smile [22:32] (Molly) I would think so. Where shall we take this? [22:32] (Morgan) your choice [22:34] * Molly watches him a long moment before hesitantly suggesting "bed?" [22:34] (Morgan) if you wish to [22:34] * Morgan smiles [22:35] * Molly smiles also, though there is the faintest hint of anxiety there [22:35] (Molly) I do [22:35] * Morgan nods [22:37] * Molly leads the way, extinguishing all of the superfluous candles as they go. He can feel a tension in her every time the darkness increases [22:39] * Molly enters their room, lightning candles from the one she carries. She looks to him with a little smile [22:39] (Molly) I suppose this is an unnecessary task now [22:40] (Morgan) I was thinking that, walking through the hallway [22:40] * Molly smiles [22:42] (Molly) You're even more indispensable now [22:44] * Molly busies herself opening the bottle and pouring two full, bubbling glasses. She watches him, though is trying not to show it [22:46] * Morgan watches a candle, making it flare and flicker [22:46] (Molly) Fascinating... [22:47] * Molly frowns briefly before sipping the champagne [22:48] (Molly) Why did my... Sparkliness not appear when I needed it? [22:48] (Morgan) I don't know [22:48] * Molly nods a little [22:50] (Molly) It would have made things much easier. I can't will it, nor suddenly acquire it when in danger [22:51] (Morgan) it might warrant some research, see if anything documented works in the same way... [22:51] (Molly) I'm afraid I don't understand [22:52] (Morgan) perhaps the way it comes and goes are along the same lines as some other... abilities... [22:52] * Molly looks between the bed and the chairs, utterly unsure of where to sit [22:52] (Molly) Can you think of any? [22:53] (Morgan) off the top of my head, no... [22:54] (Molly) /me nods, sipping from her glass. She hands the other to him. [22:54] * Morgan takes it [22:54] (Molly) It would seem like a mostly useless ability to have... [22:55] * Molly 's expression becomes thoughtful, a fond reminiscence. [22:57] (Morgan) I'm sure it'll become apparent what its good for [22:57] * Molly removes her shoes and sits on the bed, watching him with interest [22:58] * Morgan stretches, making popping noises as he does so, before sipping the champagne [22:58] * Molly frowns briefly [22:59] (Molly) You are well? [22:59] * Morgan nods [23:00] (Morgan) fine blossom [23:00] * Molly nods [23:01] (Molly) I haven't heard you pop like that for a while, I was concerned you'd hurt yourself today [23:02] * Molly 's expression turns a little solemn [23:03] (Molly) I'd hate for you to be hurt because of me [23:03] * Morgan shakes his head [23:03] (Morgan) don't fret, blossom, I'm quite capable of getting myself into mischief anyway [23:04] * Molly smiles warmly [23:04] (Molly) Very capable... [23:05] (Molly) Mischief and danger seem to find you everywhere, don't they? [23:06] (Morgan) generally I write to them beforehand to let them know where I'll be [23:06] * Molly nods [23:06] (Molly) That's very courteous of you [23:07] * Morgan shrugs slightly, sipping the champagne [23:07] (Morgan) I'm a fairly courteous person... unless I'm supposed to be [23:07] * Molly laughs [23:08] (Molly) You're always courteous to me... [23:08] * Morgan nods [23:08] (Morgan) as is proper [23:08] (Molly) And obliging when I am in need of you [23:09] * Morgan nods, sipping the drink [23:09] * Molly smiles, sipping her drink [23:10] (Molly) And your gentlemanly reserve is well remembered... [23:11] (Morgan) stubbourness you mean [23:11] * Molly giggles [23:11] (Molly) I believe I once heard you call it cowardice [23:12] (Morgan) that too [23:12] * Molly watches him over the rim of her glass [23:13] (Molly) All in all, you're rather a fine specimen of your gender [23:13] * Molly smirks a little [23:14] * Morgan shrugs [23:14] (Morgan) bound to be good at something [23:16] * Molly giggles, and although it appears carefree, he senses a watchfulness to her, as if she's a little unsure of him [23:17] (Molly) You are good at many things [23:18] (Morgan) unless it involves a bow... [23:18] * Molly grins [23:18] (Molly) There are many ways round a stubborn bow [23:19] (Morgan) oh? [23:20] (Molly) A knife, pressure on the busks from the side... *Again the shadow of uncertainty beneath her amusement* [23:21] * Morgan looks slightly confused [23:22] * Molly laughs softly [23:22] (Molly) A bow... Of the ribboned variety [23:22] (Morgan) ah, I see [23:23] (Molly) And you definitely had no issue with that kind [23:24] (Morgan) No, being the strong person I am, ribbon is no match for me... unless its wrapped a couple of times, then its a nightmare [23:24] * Molly laughs [23:25] (Molly) I'm certain that there is no binding you could not wrest me from [23:25] * Morgan blushes [23:27] * Molly smiles again, closely watching his expression [23:28] (Molly) Even rope would be no match for an experienced naval lieutenant like you [23:29] (Morgan) I should hope not [23:29] * Molly sips her drink, only the sparkle in her eyes belying the nonchalance [23:30] * Morgan sips his drink, obviously trying to work out what the hidden meaning is [23:32] * Molly continues to watch him quietly. After a minute, she sighs softly, looking ill at ease [23:33] (Molly) Are you joining me, or...? [23:33] * Morgan sits beside her [23:33] (Morgan) why don't you tell me whats troubling you, and we'll see if it cant be fixed [23:34] * Molly smiles gently [23:34] (Molly) I'm a little afraid [23:34] (Morgan) of? [23:35] * Molly keeps her eyes downcast [23:36] (Molly) Of you being wary of scaring me or hurting me...of things between us being changed because of what they did [23:37] * Morgan sighs [23:37] (Morgan) I'm a little uneasy that I might scare you, but I think it'd go back to normal at some point... [23:38] * Molly looks up at him with an intense look of anguish, her words impassioned [23:39] (Molly) But you _won't_ scare me. I could never be afraid of you. [23:43] (Morgan) its not _me_ I'm worried you'll be scared of... [23:46] * Molly looks confused [23:46] (Molly) Then what? [23:47] (Morgan) people die all the time... I've helped a share of them along, but to do so by burning them... its not the killing them that bothers me so much as the fire would... [23:48] * Molly looks even more confused [23:48] (Molly) You're worried I'll be upset by what you did to them? [23:49] * Morgan frowns [23:49] (Morgan) no... I'm worried that their intended actions will cause you to be uncomfortable being intimate with me... that it'll bring up upsetting thoughts [23:50] * Molly looks surprised [23:53] (Molly) The two are incomparable. What we have, it's more than just animalistic lust, more than a need to control and overpower. It is pure, unsullied, because it is underpinned by love and respect [23:53] * Morgan nods [23:53] * Molly blushes a little [23:54] (Molly) That is how it feels to me at least [23:54] * Morgan smiles [23:54] (Morgan) likewise [23:55] * Molly nods [23:56] (Molly) I promise, my mind would be so full of you, I wouldn't have space to think of them, or anyone else [00:01] * Morgan nods [00:01] (Morgan) good [00:01] * Molly watches him intently [00:02] (Molly) And you'll endeavour to do the same? [00:02] * Morgan smiles slightly [00:02] (Morgan) of course [00:03] * Molly takes his hand. Her gaze doesn't leave his face [00:04] (Molly) Were you scared, liebes herz? [00:04] * Morgan nods [00:05] (Molly) Not just of how it could affect us... But in how close we came to losing each other? *her voice is quiet, serious* [00:06] * Morgan nods [00:08] * Molly squeezes his hand [00:09] (Molly) I love you liebes herz. Even death could not change that. It is important to me that you know that. [00:10] * Morgan nods solemnly *he leant in to kiss her softly, as much to end the painfully morbid conversation as to comfort her. Their lovemaking was simple, and his cautiousness unnecessary as her eager responses were the same he was beginning to know well. Soon after, they slept peacefully. [20:42] (Molly) [20:33] (Molly) A busy day of making repairs to the manor house and its lands has flown past like the darting swallows above him as he worked. A request sent that morning led to the reply from his previous cousin in law that they would be delighted to dine. With mud and sweat as badges of honest labour, he swiftly made himself presentable in good time. [20:42] (Molly) [20:36] (Molly) His wife stood in the dinning room, critically scrutinising her hair. In the green and cream dress they bought in Seeufer, she looked flawless, an example of graceful nobility. Not noticing him, she tilts her head to examine the pale skin on her neck where the Montaigne dagger had bitten in [20:45] (Molly) ((Done)) [20:46] * @Morgan watches her quietly [20:47] * Molly frowns briefly, then turns. His presence clearly surprises her [20:47] (Molly) Oh! [20:48] * @Morgan nods slightly [20:48] (@Morgan) I do that a lot [20:51] * Molly nods [20:52] (Molly) You look very handsome, liebes herz [20:52] (@Morgan) its a risk I took when I was born... [20:52] * Molly smiles warmly [20:53] (Molly) That you might be so attractive? [20:53] * @Morgan shrugs [20:54] * Molly stands with her hands on the back of one of the chairs, looking at the elaborately laid table [20:55] (Molly) You have attractive parents, so it was somewhat likely [20:55] * @Morgan nods [20:55] (@Morgan) probably [20:56] * Molly casts a quick sidelong glance at him with a cheeky grin [20:57] (Molly) Our own children will be exquisite [20:57] (@Morgan) undoubtedly [20:58] * Molly moves things around on the table [20:59] (Molly) Have I overdone this? Will she think I am trying to parade our wealth? [20:59] (@Morgan) possibly... or she'll see it that you're trying hard to make an effort with her [21:00] * Molly nods [21:00] (Molly) I hope it is the latter [21:00] * @Morgan nods [21:01] (@Morgan) most likely [21:02] * Molly nods, biting her lip nervously. They're interrupted by a knock on the door [21:06] (Molly) **Heinrich looks around the door** My Lord, Henning wishes to see you, i said I'd check if you were available [21:06] * @Morgan nods [21:07] (@Morgan) I'm not about to start ignoring people who call at invonvenient times... [21:10] (Molly) *H nods, waiting for instruction* [21:10] (@Morgan) I'll be back in a moment blossom... [21:10] * @Morgan heads for the door [21:16] (Molly) *Henning is stood in the hallway admiring a painting of Hans and Mathilda [21:17] (@Morgan) Henning, what can I do for you? [21:21] (Molly) *he smiles* sorry to disturb you Milord. We've all put our heads together and made a list of everything that needs doing or fixing in Innesbruck [21:21] (@Morgan) am I going to need help carrying this list? [21:25] (Molly) *he shrugs a little* it's long but not heavy *he hands over a roll of parchment* [21:29] * @Morgan takes it, nodding [21:29] (@Morgan) alright... we'll get to work on how to proceed with it in the morning [21:31] (Molly) *he nods* thank you milord. Everyone is very positive now, we know we can trust you [21:32] (@Morgan) I'm glad to hear it... I hope noone thinks it'll be an easy fix, mind [21:32] (Molly) We're all so happy just to be able to eat [21:34] * @Morgan nods [21:35] (@Morgan) that certainly helps [21:36] (Molly) You've done more for this town in the last week than anyone has for years [21:38] * @Morgan shrugs [21:38] (@Morgan) I'm only doing what needs to be done [21:42] (Molly) *he smiles* you're well-liked milord, you both are. The women here are in awe of Veisgrafin Koertig. They're even experimenting with how to make their hair red and their dresses like hers [21:44] * @Morgan smiles [21:44] (@Morgan) she'll be flattered [21:47] (Molly) *he smiles* they've never met a Lady quite like her milord [21:47] (@Morgan) she is rather singular [21:49] (Molly) *he nods* I'll let you return to your evening Milord [21:49] (@Morgan) thank you Henning... [21:52] (Molly) *he bows, heading back out into the early evening sunshine [21:53] * @Morgan smiles before heading back to Molly [21:55] * Molly is reading a small leather bound book [21:58] * @Morgan looks at her for a moment, trying to see what the book is [22:01] (Molly) **it's hard to see. She looks up with a smile* all is well? [22:01] (@Morgan) the list of things that need fixing... [22:05] (Molly) Oh good, that will be useful. Is there much? [22:05] (@Morgan) I haven't looked yet [22:05] (@Morgan) what're you reading? [22:15] (Molly) Just a silly romance novel. It's more for nerves than enjoyment [22:15] * @Morgan nods [22:28] * Molly rises, depositing the closed book on the mantelpiece. She looks to him, voice quietly intense [22:28] (Molly) Are -you- nervous, liebes herz? [22:28] * @Morgan nods [22:28] (@Morgan) aye [22:29] * Molly bites her lower lip [22:29] (Molly) I'll do my best to make her like me [22:29] (@Morgan) just be yourself blossom [22:30] * Molly looks briefly unsure, but nods [22:30] (Molly) **Heinrich knocks again** [22:32] (@Morgan) Come... [22:33] (Molly) H: they're here, milord [22:34] (@Morgan) Thank you, Heinrich, show them in would you? [22:43] * Molly somewhat tense and anxious at his side, they wait in their dining room for Hildegarde and Rickon. As they enter, its obvious they're awed by the size and richness of the house, even though to Morgan and Molly, used to the splendour of die dauerhaftigkeit and the torrington estate, it is quite modest. Hands clasped at his sides by a maternal order not to touch things, Rickon's eyes are like saucers. [22:46] (@Morgan) Hildegarde, Rickon... welcome... this is Molly [22:51] * Molly curtsies as do the guests. The two women smile politely, though appear to be taking stock of each other. Rickon speaks to Morgan. [22:52] (Molly) R: I haven't touched anything milord [22:52] (@Morgan) told not to, were you? [22:56] (Molly) R: "Don't touch a thing Rickon" [22:57] * @Morgan pauses for a moment [22:57] (@Morgan) how are you going to eat anything? [23:01] (Molly) R: *he thinks hard* I could eat with just my mouth, but "mind your manners Rickon", so I dont know milord. [23:01] (@Morgan) tricky... very tricky [23:03] (Molly) *Hildegarde looks embarrassed. Heinrich, taking the role of butler, seats them all and serves wine and milk with an assurance that dinner will arrive shortly [23:04] * @Morgan sniffs the wine [23:05] (@Morgan) For a long time my father tried to convince me I should drink sherry... or brandy... I cant say I've ever really liked either of them, and I'm afraid wine isn't far behind them [23:06] * Molly looks a little concerned [23:07] (Molly) Shall I send for something else? [23:07] * @Morgan shakes his head [23:08] (@Morgan) No, I'll manage... though I might have to pilfer some of Rickons milk [23:09] (Molly) H: *she smiles* wine has been expensive in Innesbruck for a while now, I haven't had any in months [23:10] (Molly) R: *he smiles at Morgan* I'll sell it to you for a mark! [23:10] * @Morgan looks at Molly [23:10] (@Morgan) does he remind you of anyone? [23:10] (Molly) *Hildegarde pales, mortified* [23:10] * Molly nods [23:11] (Molly) He reminds me of HeinzHarold but sharper [23:12] * @Morgan nods [23:12] (Molly) H: I am so sorry *she then looks at Rickon* [23:12] * @Morgan looks at Hildegarde [23:13] (@Morgan) remember the other day I said we were family? [23:15] (Molly) H: *she nods, though subconsciously glances at Molly, then back* I remember [23:15] (@Morgan) this is how families are... [23:18] (Molly) H *she nods* [23:18] (Molly) R: *he smiles* because you're family, I'll let you run up a tab [23:19] * Molly tries very hard not to laugh [23:19] * @Morgan tries but fails [23:21] (Molly) H: *she smiles at him* where have you learnt that? *he shrugs* Joey's father said it to the new sheriff and the man who let us in [23:22] * Molly continues to smile. If this statement has concerned her, it doesn't show. Nor can he sense her emotions at all [23:23] (@Morgan) Joeys father? [23:24] (Molly) H: I don't want you playing in the tavern, its dangerous *he nods, less interested in her words than in whether Morgan takes the drink. She replies to Morgan* He's the landlord of the tavern [23:24] (@Morgan) ah, I see [23:29] (Molly) **there is a bustle as Heinrich, Walder and Jacques serve their food, a fairly elaborate roast from the additional provisions Kinner sent them [23:30] (Molly) R: Look! An actual roast chicken! *he looks both excited and ravenous* [23:33] (@Morgan) we wanted to serve it raw, but the little blighter wouldn't hold still [20:07] * Molly and Hildegarde still seem somewhat unsure of each other, though Rickon doesn't notice. Heinrich comes to carve and dish out the chicken [20:08] (Molly) R: we haven't had chickens for a long time, we had to eat them all [20:08] * @Morgan nods [20:08] (@Morgan) understandable [20:10] (Molly) R: we were going to eat our cows next [20:10] (@Morgan) hopefully you won't need to now [20:11] (Molly) R: *he shakes his head* people say we're all rich now [20:12] * @Morgan shakes his head [20:12] (@Morgan) No, not rich I'm afraid... just a bit better off [20:15] (Molly) **a few quiet minutes pass as they start eating. Then Rickon looks at Morgan* Are you rich? [20:16] (Molly) H: *she looks very embarrassed* Rickon! [20:16] (@Morgan) Some might say so [20:16] (Molly) H: I'm so sorry Milord. Rickon, apologise please [20:17] (Molly) *he looks a bit confused* I'm sorry Milord [20:18] * @Morgan waves his hand dismissively [20:18] (@Morgan) Don't worry about it [20:19] * Molly quietly watches Rickon, who looks ashamed. She speaks gently [20:22] (Molly) There are more ways to be rich than money or property, Rickon. Love is more valuable than gold. You are very rich with Love, because you have a mother who loves you. Many would trade all their wealth to be well-loved as you are. [20:23] (Molly) R: *he nods* I am very lucky *he smiles at his mother who smiles back* [20:24] * Molly smiles briefly at Morgan before continuing to eat [20:25] (Molly) R: *he looks to Morgan* Are you rich with Love? [20:25] (@Morgan) Absolutely [20:26] (Molly) R: *he nods* Do you have a mother? [20:27] * @Morgan nods [20:27] (@Morgan) I do [20:27] (Molly) R: is she as nice as my mother? [20:27] (@Morgan) I think so... [20:28] (Molly) R: do you have a father? [20:28] * @Morgan nods [20:29] (Molly) *Hildegarde wears the look of a parent constantly asked questions, slightly apologetic* [20:29] (Molly) R: He didn't die in the war? [20:29] (@Morgan) No, he didn't... he was very lucky [20:30] (Molly) R: my father died in the war but i was just a baby then [20:31] * @Morgan nods [20:31] (@Morgan) I know, your mother told me [20:32] (Molly) R *he turns his gaze to Molly* Did your father die in the war, Lady Koertig? [20:32] * Molly shakes her head [20:33] (Molly) No, there was no war where I came from, my father has never fought at all, and is still alive and well [20:35] (Molly) *Rickon begins asking all about Avalon, and then Hildegarde speaks quietly to Morgan while the two converse* H: I didn't know you'd wed out of Eisen [20:35] * @Morgan nods [20:36] (@Morgan) though we did marry _in_ Eisen [20:37] (Molly) *she nods* were your parents displeased like with Dietlinde? [20:38] * @Morgan shakes his head slightly [20:38] (@Morgan) My father can't really complain about me marrying an Avalonian, can he [20:44] (Molly) H: *she laughs, causing Molly and Rickon to look over. His new wife's expression is hard to read, and she's immediately drawn back into Rickon's questions* H: Of course. It is just a shame he couldn't be more tolerant with my cousin *she looks sad rather than angry* [20:45] (@Morgan) He got there in the end... [20:51] (Molly) H: *she nods* I wish I'd been part of her life. Maybe... *she sips her wine, deeply saddened* [20:53] (@Morgan) maybe...? [20:55] (Molly) H: maybe it wouldn't have happened [20:57] (@Morgan) I suspect there's very little could've been done to avoid it [21:02] (Molly) H: *she shrugs* perhaps [21:04] (Molly) R: can I go to Avalon when I'm older? * he looks to Hildegarde, who smiles a little* who knows, perhaps you might [21:10] (Molly) *the rest of dinner passes, and although polite small talk is made, there's still a slight wariness between the women [21:14] * @Morgan sighs slightly, sipping his wine [21:16] (Molly) **soon Rickon looks tired, and they prepare to leave* [21:20] (Molly) H: *she smiles* Thank you for inviting us [21:21] (@Morgan) it was our pleasure to have you [21:22] * Molly nods [21:23] (Molly) It was. Please do visit again, its nice to have *there's a fraction of a pause, but only he seems to notice* guests [21:26] (Molly) H: *she curtsies briefly, before leading Rickon out into the warm evening twilight, waving goodbye. The light in the cottages of the staff illuminates the driveway as they go [21:29] * Molly goes back inside. Heinrich catches Morgan's attention as she wanders off [21:29] * @Morgan wanders over to him [21:29] (Molly) H: My Lord, shall I follow to make sure they get home safely? [21:30] (@Morgan) please [21:31] (Molly) H: *he nods* any other tasks before I retire, my Lord? [21:31] (@Morgan) No, thank you [21:33] (Molly) H: *he nods, bowing as he leaves, the house now just theirs once more* [21:14] (Molly) ** The next few days pass in a blur. The list he is given is substantial, wall building, barn fixing, helping organise for harvest. He works hard, and for the most part the people work beside him. By the end of the day, he's exhausted. (Mtf) [21:16] (Molly) Everyone is settling in on the grounds of the manor house. Sorgi and his assailants are becoming friends, Ghalen is slowly becoming less shy as Heinrich's sidekick. He realises he's spent more quality time with them than Molly.* [21:17] (Molly) *it is late afternoon when he returns to the house, having given all the other men jobs to do* [21:19] * @Morgan wanders through the house, humming quietly to himself [21:19] ** New query from Morgan (Available on submenu 'Windows') [21:20] (Molly) **The door to the blue and gold drawing room is fractionally ajar* [21:21] * @Morgan taps on it quietly, nudging it further open [21:26] * Molly is sat at the desk amidst a flood of paperwork, tapping the tip of her nose with the end of a white quill. She looks graceful, refinement surrounding her like a halo. She looks up at the noise, but it is a moment before the pleasure at his presence warms her expression [21:29] (Molly) Liebes herz... [21:29] (@Morgan) blossom [21:31] * Molly rises, inadvertently knocking over some papers. She smiles as she picks them up [21:34] (Molly) Es ist nicht mal anderes [21:34] * @Morgan smiles slightly [21:34] (@Morgan) what've you got there? [21:37] (Molly) The Estate ledgers, and the Stewardship ledgers [21:37] * Molly smiles [21:37] (@Morgan) you've a strange idea of fun... [21:41] * Molly smiles [21:41] (Molly) I do not recall saying it was fun [21:41] * Molly grins [21:41] * @Morgan nods [21:41] (@Morgan) fair point [21:42] (Molly) It is necessary [21:42] * @Morgan nods [21:45] * Molly goes to speak, then changes direction [21:46] (Molly) I'm sorry, I haven't offered you a drink, or something to eat [21:46] * @Morgan watches her for a moment [21:46] (@Morgan) and if you were a hostess, I'd be disappointed, but you're not... what were you going to say? [21:47] * Molly smiles gently, leaning against the desk [21:48] (Molly) That I'm making progress with the accounts, though I am unsure if my plans will please you [21:49] * Molly watches him, having missed their time together [21:50] * @Morgan glances around for a drink [21:50] (@Morgan) what've you got in mind? [21:51] (Molly) **there's a tea pot, but only one cup* [21:52] * Molly sets to tidying the desk [21:52] (Molly) Which would you prefer to know first, the Estate or the Village? [21:53] * @Morgan pours the tea into the cup before placing it on the desk in front of Molly [21:53] (@Morgan) Village [21:55] * Molly smiles softly, pushing it back to him [21:55] (Molly) We want to be firm but fair, yes? [21:55] * @Morgan nods [21:57] (Molly) And we cannot afford to _not_ charge rent and taxes, because we have tithes to pay to Sudlachenburg and Fischler. I wish it were different, but it is what it is [21:57] * @Morgan nods [21:58] * Molly bites her lip a moment, looking a little tense [21:59] (Molly) You may feel it is too soft... We _can_ afford this method, though it would be important that everyone cooperated... [21:59] * @Morgan sips the tea, watching her [22:00] * Molly smiles a little [22:01] (Molly) The rents and taxes are paid quarterly, the next due a month or so hence. I propose that we ask only a quarter of the usual amount... [22:02] * Molly watches his reaction [22:03] (@Morgan) for how long? [22:04] (Molly) For the first payment. Half for the second, three-quarters for the third, rising to the full amount in the fourth quarter [22:04] * Molly waits nervously [22:05] (@Morgan) for what purpose? [22:05] * Molly nods a little as if anticipating that [22:08] (Molly) The people have run their savings through. They've sold everything the can spare, and they've gone without for months. If we free up their incomes from the harvesting, they'll be more likely to save, and they'll be able to return themselves to a reasonable quality of life. [22:08] (Molly) In other words, they'll be more resilient in the event of any crisis, financially and emotionally. [22:08] * @Morgan nods slowly [22:09] (@Morgan) Sounds reasonable [22:09] * Molly blushes [22:09] (Molly) You do not think it silly or overgenerous? [22:10] (@Morgan) if it went on indefinitely, I might have [22:10] * Molly shakes her head [22:11] (Molly) We could not afford it... And it would make people frivolous and take advantage [22:11] * @Morgan nods [22:12] * Molly sits back in her chair, resting her chin on her hand [22:13] (Molly) Besides, if we do not, we run the risk of poor harvest, rent arrears and discontent. [22:13] (@Morgan) which helps noone [22:13] * Molly shakes her head [22:14] (Molly) It is much easier to make an Eisenman help himself that to help him directly [22:14] * @Morgan nods [22:14] (@Morgan) its a national character flaw [22:15] * Molly smiles [22:15] (Molly) I believe you said that lack of humour was the Eisen flaw [22:15] (@Morgan) I never said we only had one [22:17] * Molly giggles [22:17] (Molly) I've missed ypu [22:17] (Molly) You* [22:18] (@Morgan) I'm sorry [22:18] * Molly shakes her head, embarassed [22:19] (Molly) I did not mean to inspire your guilt, liebling. You have no need to apologise [22:21] (@Morgan) nevertheless, I've neglected you [22:23] * Molly frowns, shaking her head. Her blue eyes meet his [22:24] (Molly) Not at all. I am not neglected. There is much to be done here, and it is our Duty to do it. [22:26] * @Morgan nods slowly [22:26] (@Morgan) what of the estate? [22:29] * Molly smiles [22:30] (Molly) Walter was already on the payroll... But I want to add the others. [22:33] * Molly picks up a sheet of paper [22:34] (Molly) We'll still supply accommodation and food, of course [22:34] * @Morgan nods slowly [22:41] * Molly goes through the list, from Heinrich as overseer and Ghalen as sherriff at 3G down through a Secretary of affairs 2G, a housekeeper/cook and Walter 1G, a butler/valet/cleaner and a maid at 1/2 G as well as Jacques. [22:42] * Molly watches his expression [22:43] * @Morgan mulls it over [22:44] * @Morgan nods [22:44] (@Morgan) sounds reasonable [22:46] (Molly) Sorgi... Well, his wages on the Rose will vary, but we could certainly make him a payment in the meantime... [22:46] * @Morgan nods [22:46] (@Morgan) I think that'd be a good idea [22:47] (Molly) As for Karl and Ulath, I do not think we should pay them... Yet. [22:48] * @Morgan nods [22:48] (@Morgan) They've impressed me [22:49] * Molly nods [22:50] (Molly) And I. But I'm not sure that it is wise to treat them as employees whilst they are still being punished [22:51] * @Morgan nods [22:51] (@Morgan) agreed [22:53] * Molly smiles [22:53] (Molly) You not taking any payment for yourself has helped a great deal [22:54] * @Morgan nods [22:54] (@Morgan) I think its the best way for now [22:57] * Molly smiles [22:57] (Molly) Though you have been working very hard... [22:58] (@Morgan) it needed to be done [22:59] (Molly) It seems a pity for you not to be rewarded.... [23:00] * Molly 's lips form a little amused, teasing smile [23:00] * @Morgan smiles [23:02] (Molly) *The bell rings. Molly sighs deeply, shaking her head with amusement* These interruptions get earlier and earlier! [21:20] (Molly) **at the door stands a weary looking dark hair man, mid-twenties, in travelling clothes, holding the reins of brown horse [21:22] * @Morgan looks the man over [21:22] (@Morgan) Can I help you? [21:24] (Molly) **he bows slightly** My Lord, I have some dispatches for you *his accent is completely Avalon* [21:25] (@Morgan) You've come a long way... [21:31] (Molly) **he nods** I have come from Carleon *he takes a large bundle from his saddle bag* and I met two more messengers at the inn who were coming this way, so I said I'd bring theirs too [21:31] * @Morgan takes the bundle [21:32] (@Morgan) your plans now? Lodge overnight and continue onwards? [21:34] (Molly) I'll lodge overnight then head back to Carleon, unless you have anything you'd like me to deliver? [21:35] * @Morgan glances at Molly [21:35] (@Morgan) anything? [21:36] * Molly thinks [21:36] (Molly) I suppose that will depend upon whether these necessitate a reply? [21:37] (@Morgan) tell you what, lodge at the inn, call by in the morning, we'll know then. [21:41] (Molly) **he bows** Yes, My Lord, My Lady... Good evening [21:42] (@Morgan) tell the inn keeper to send the bill for food and lodging to me [21:45] (Molly) *he smiles* thank you, My Lord *he mounts up* [21:50] * @Morgan closes the door as he leaves [21:50] (@Morgan) well... aren't we popular [21:54] * Molly nods with a smile [21:54] (Molly) Intriguing... Shall I get drinks? [21:55] (@Morgan) probably a good idea [22:01] * Molly meets him back in the drawing room, serving drinks before looking at the items on the desk. [22:02] (@Morgan) I burned the ones that looked boring [22:06] * Molly giggles [22:07] (Molly) Oh dear [22:11] (Molly) **there is one large package addressed to him, three letters for him and one for Molly [22:12] * @Morgan passes her letter over before beginning to open the package [22:15] (Molly) **inside it is wrapped further, but contains a letter bearing his name [22:16] * @Morgan opens the letter [22:21] (Molly) "Dear Morgan, I'm writing to you because I couldn't find Molly in Tawstock. If you can find her, please give her this. If not, please guard it carefully until I write again. Thank you, Xsarlac Elementay, sovereign prince of Caperlucia" [22:22] * @Morgan smirks for a moment, before passing the package over [22:26] * Molly looks up [22:26] (Molly) What is it? [22:26] (@Morgan) from Sigfried [22:29] * Molly looks confused, slowly opening it. She takes out a letter, reading it [22:31] * @Morgan sets about opening another letter [22:33] * Molly reads aloud "Dear Molly, As the only official Caperlucian citizen other than myself here, I ask that you take these navigational charts to the Queen of Avalon to have our country recognised. I am unable to as I'm following an urgent trail for Betuana. Yours, Siegfried. [22:39] * @Morgan chuckles slightly [22:39] * Molly opens a wealth of instructions and maps of the route and the land itself. She's quickly engrossed [22:43] (Molly) *his next letter is from adalbrecht to confirm harvest plans [22:56] (Molly) Alarice: Dear Cousin, I expect the painting returned to me immediately. No Gentleman would ask payment for what is clearly a Lady's possession. Alarice." [22:56] * @Morgan snorts briefly [22:57] * Molly looks up questioningly [22:59] * @Morgan reads it aloud [23:03] * Molly bites her lower lip in amusement [23:04] (Molly) So what are we to do? [23:04] (@Morgan) sell it [23:05] (@Morgan) though, I might send a letter back along the lines of... a lady would not allow such a painting to be created... then make mention of her squandering the funds here [23:08] * Molly nods [23:08] (Molly) I agree [23:12] * @Morgan opens the next letter [23:13] (@Morgan) Betuana's his wife... [23:14] * Molly nods [23:15] (Molly) I realised that [23:15] (Molly) **his letter is from the Eisenfurst** [23:15] (@Morgan) He's never told me her name [23:15] * @Morgan reads it [23:16] (Molly) No, me either.
