The girl is rather docile, clearly intending to go with them1:11] * @Morgan sighs01:11] (@Morgan) the villagers need to be told... disappearing without a reason would be a bad idea1:14] (Walder) M :& no-one here knows me. I come and go as I please. I will not be missed&01:14] (@Morgan) I was referring to my disappearing01:15] (Walder) M nods briefly as Walder puts the bodies in the cart [21:02] * @Morgan finds a rag ti wipe away the blood [21:02] (@Morgan) take her to the house, make sure she's secure. I'll be along shortly. [21:05] (crys) *walder nods. The girl climbs up compliently. He manages to get the blood from his hands but his shirt is bloody in places, particularly down his back, flowing slowly from the painful stiletto wound [21:05] * @Morgan throws his coat around his shoulders and walks back to the hall [21:12] (crys) **as he does so, the knife clatters to the floor, a small yet expensive blade [21:12] ** New query from Morgan (Available on submenu 'Windows') [21:12] * @Morgan picks it up [21:13] (crys) Beneath the blood he can see hints of a black, thick liquid [21:15] (crys) **the hall is still full, people chatting excitedly and nervously [21:15] (@Morgan) oh thats just fabulous... *he pockets the knife, looking at the people* [21:17] (crys) **they all turn in his direction, some watching the door as if expecting the other men to return* [21:18] (@Morgan) Ladies and gentlemen, I had truly hoped we could avoid the unpleasantness... sadly, there are now two dead and one in custody, while I fourth ran away, though he didn't get involved. Sadly, from here on, this is what happens when there is violence done upon another. Is that understood? [21:20] (crys) ** people look utterly shocked, and amidst many gasps of surprise, a few murmurs of appreciation [21:21] * @Morgan looks at the remaining ne'er do goods [21:21] (@Morgan) Imagine, if you will... If I can accomplish this much on my own, what can be achieved with my sherrif and overseer. [21:22] (crys) **they all nod, looking chastised [21:23] (@Morgan) Now if you'd all excuse me, I have a knife wound to deal it. You're welcome to call upon me with any issues you wish to raise... but not tonight [21:24] (crys) ** everyone nods [21:24] * @Morgan nods, turns and leaves [21:27] (crys) **he makes it back to the house in one rather agonised piece. As soon as he can see the house he begins to feel dizzy, a rushing noise quietly in his ears [21:29] * @Morgan shakes his head and soldiers on [21:30] (crys) **it gets louder as he enters the house [21:31] * @Morgan stands still, closing his eyes for a moment before moving off to find Molly [21:35] (crys) **he can hear her voice quietly in his mind within the rushing as he heads towards the drawing room she showed him. Then he hears his own. [21:36] (crys) I do not marry you because I should, or because you deserve so. I do not marry you because a friend bullied me into it . Indeed, all she did was make me see what was obvious. I do not marry you for any of this. I marry you because... *his voice lowers* because I love you. [21:40] (crys) ((done)) [21:41] (crys) **he arrives at the closed door [21:43] * @Morgan tries to open it [21:43] (crys) **it isn't locked [21:43] * @Morgan pushes it open [21:43] ** You're now known as Molly [21:43] -NickServ- This nickname is registered. Please choose a different nickname, or identify via /msg NickServ identify . [21:44] -NickServ- You are now identified for Molly. [21:45] * Molly is sat at the desk surrounded by ledgers and handwritten notes. Though she looks a little like she's been caught wool-gathering, she rises, smiling warmly at him [21:46] (Molly) Welcome back, liebling [21:46] * @Morgan speaks quietly [21:46] (@Morgan) I have something of a problem [21:47] * Molly looks deeply concerned, her tone lowering to match his. He notices he hears all her words in his mind a fraction before they're said [21:48] (Molly) What is the matter, liebes herz? Can I be of any aid? [21:48] (@Morgan) I fear I've been poisoned [21:48] * @Morgan pulls out the dagger, placing on the nearest surface [21:50] * Molly looks shocked, blinks slowly, then calmly pulls a chair to him. Though her expression is measured, he feels a deep anger in her as well as hearing a wealth of questions [21:50] (Molly) Sit down. [21:50] * @Morgan does so [21:50] (@Morgan) has Walder returned? [21:51] * Molly waves a hand as if it's inconsequential [21:52] (Molly) Briefly. He said he'd put the baggage in the cellar. What are the poisons effects and where are you wounded? **her emotions are a turmoil of fear, sadness and fury** [21:53] * @Morgan smiles faintly [21:53] (@Morgan) well, I took a headbutt to the nose, but primarily, I was stabbed with that dagger... between my shoulder blades [21:53] (@Morgan) if you look at it, there's some black... stuff on it [21:54] (@Morgan) I feel dizzy and... well, my hearing is affected [21:54] * Molly takes a deep breath [21:55] (Molly) Let's deal with you first, the evidence can wait... [21:55] (Molly) Can you stand? [21:56] (@Morgan) No, you misunderstand... it was _that_ knife, whatever is on it is whats causing me the issues [21:56] * Molly frowns [21:58] (Molly) I understand, liebling, but I no longer appear to need to know how a condition was caused to fix it. [21:58] * @Morgan nods, standing up [21:59] (@Morgan) I hate to admit this, but the last fair fight I had was with a montaigne man [21:59] * Molly removes his coat and shirt slowly, gently [22:00] (Molly) Yes... [22:00] (Molly) "can I counteract poison? Will it already be too late? Oh god..." [22:01] (@Morgan) calm yourself Molly... it seems its effects on me are somewhat slower than expected [22:02] * Molly 's hand freezes, eyes narrowing slightly [22:02] (Molly) That should not be possible [22:03] (@Morgan) she said, and I quote, I expected you to be unconscious by now... that was prior to my walking back [22:04] * Molly moves around behind him, face not betraying her turmoil. There's a sharp inhalation. [22:04] (@Morgan) I probably didn't help matters with my method of removal [22:05] (Molly) That was not what I meant. You shouldn't be aable to read my thoughts so easily when I'm trying so hard to guard them. And yes, the wound is quite deep. [22:06] (@Morgan) I know... I was there when it happened [22:07] * Molly gently touches the entry point, and through the usual warm, tingling sensation he feels excruciating pain right through his chest [22:07] * @Morgan grits his teeth, grunting [22:08] * Molly winces [22:08] (Molly) I'm so sorry liebling. I wouldn't pain you if I could avoid it. [22:08] * @Morgan nods [22:09] (@Morgan) its not your fault blossom [22:09] (Molly) **he feels her misery and pain [22:09] (Molly) It is going to get worse, but I'll be as quick as I can [22:10] * @Morgan nods [22:10] (@Morgan) understood [22:11] * Molly inserts her middle and index finger into the hole. It is by far the worst physical pain he's ever felt. [22:11] * @Morgan grinds his teeth, bowing his head [22:14] (Molly) ** he knows from her thoughts that she is scared for him and hurt deeply by hurting him. She says a word he doesn't understand but the inflection makes it obvious that it is extremely bad language [22:16] (Molly) **suddenly the pain disappears, replaced by that familiar heat and vitality that comes from her healing. He feels refreshed, invigorated. The dizziness, noise and her thoughts disappear. [22:17] * Molly runs the other hand over where the wound was before taking a step back [22:21] * @Morgan rolls his shoulders [22:21] (@Morgan) How long have we been here? [22:23] * Molly goes to the desk, placing something there beside the blade. She doesn't make eye contact but he can see the tear tracks down her cheeks. Her voice is slightly rough. [22:23] (Molly) Not long. Five minutes? [22:23] (@Morgan) I mean since we arrived earlier [22:23] * @Morgan walks to her [22:24] (Molly) Oh. About four hours [22:24] (@Morgan) outside of service, I think thats the fastest I've ever had to kill someone from arriving [22:24] * Molly nods [22:25] * @Morgan places a hand on her shoulder [22:25] * Molly looks up to him. Her blue eyes seem almost grayer, sadder. [22:28] (Molly) I'm sorry. [22:28] (@Morgan) for what blossom? [22:30] (Molly) Hurting you. *she watches him* I know, it was necessary, but it still doesn't feel good [22:30] (@Morgan) it wasn't that bad... I've had worse [22:31] * Molly smiles a little [22:32] (@Morgan) and, realistically, it was my own fault [22:33] (Molly) *she becomes more serious* the blade left some sort of bur in your body. It wouldn't have healed for a long time like that. How was it your fault? [22:34] (@Morgan) I wasn't paying enough attention [22:34] (Molly) How do you feel now? [22:35] (@Morgan) better [22:35] * Molly smiles [22:36] (Molly) Good. Maybe the summerhouse was a good thing after all. I can't lose you, liebes herz. [22:36] (@Morgan) I dont intend to let that happen [22:36] * Molly nods [22:37] (@Morgan) I think... perhaps its time to talk to the baggage [22:37] * Molly looks confused [22:37] (Molly) Even Fyodor's didnt make conversation [22:37] * @Morgan smiles slightly [22:38] (@Morgan) I sent Walder back with the person that managed to actually wound me... Its time for some answers [22:39] * Molly 's eyes develop a flinty glint before she shakes her head with a sheepish smile [22:39] (Molly) I really have been spending too much time with Eisen influences... [22:40] * @Morgan chuckles [22:40] (@Morgan) aye, I think so [22:41] (Molly) Is he well-restrained in the cellar do you think? *she picks up the knife with care* [22:41] (@Morgan) I would imagine Walder made sure she was [22:44] (Molly) She?! [22:44] * @Morgan nods [22:44] (Molly) Alarice? [22:44] (@Morgan) Not unless she's turned into a montaigne girl, no [22:45] * Molly leads the way [22:45] (Molly) Interesting... [22:46] (@Morgan) a little, aye. [22:49] * Molly remains quiet til she knocks on a rather formidable door, which Walder opens. The room inside is rather comfortable, almost like a small bedchamber and study. The girls hands are tied but she sits placidly watching them. Walder asks if he should stay. [22:50] (@Morgan) No, you can go Walder. Give crusader a little treat or something would you? I doubt he normally has the burden of pulling carts [22:51] (Molly) **he leaves. Molly looks as if she has no intention of going anywhere, jaw tight as she watches the girl [22:52] * @Morgan finds a chair and sits down [22:52] (@Morgan) I'm Morgan... you are? [22:52] * Molly sits also [22:53] (Molly) M: I am not permitted to say [22:53] * @Morgan sighs [22:53] (@Morgan) first its 'I wont say out in the street' now you're not permitted to say... [22:56] * Molly looks at her and speaks rapidly, clipped words. He knows it's montaigne, though it is either a dilect or code because every word is unknown. The girl looks shocked, looking Molly over head to toe before replying in this same way. [22:57] * Molly looks to Morgan [22:57] (Molly) That rules out one potential montaigne person with a grudge. [22:58] * @Morgan looks vaguely confused [22:58] (Molly) Not connected to Captain Tsaylur [22:59] (@Morgan) I cant say that really occured to me... what was the, lets say, dialect? [23:00] * Molly tries hard not to smirk, looking amused yet nonplussed [23:02] (Molly) The secret code of the whores of Charouse ((montaigne capital)). Not used often by freelancers, but I remember it well [23:02] (@Morgan) I'm thinking you spent too long on that ship [23:02] * @Morgan looks at the girl [23:03] (@Morgan) why 'cant' you tell me your name? [23:03] (Molly) M: my identity and presence here is supposed to be secret [23:04] * @Morgan sighs again [23:04] (@Morgan) alright. Why did you throw a knife at me? [23:05] * Molly takes the opportunity to study the blade. Though not being in the slightest bit threatening, the girl flicks anxious glances at Molly [23:06] (Molly) M: my presence and identity here are so secret I must do what is necessary to protect myself *she's lapsed back into montaigne* [23:07] (@Morgan) that doesn't exactly answer my question... I dont see how it was necessary [23:11] (Molly) M: an investigation and stricter laws here would attract unwanted attention upon me. [23:12] (@Morgan) Didn't really work out then, did it? [23:13] (Molly) M: non, I do not know why. [23:13] (@Morgan) what was the poison supposed to do? [23:14] (Molly) M: *she looks thoughtful* until we discuss our terms, I couldn't think to disclose that [23:15] * Molly pauses in her fiddling with the knife [23:15] (@Morgan) terms... the last time I discussed terms with someone, they abandoned any honour and included their friends in the altercation... I'm not entirely sure I'm particularly interested in talking terms with anyone right now [23:18] (Molly) M: either you intend to let me free or execute me. I am interested in making the first the case. [23:19] (@Morgan) Then your persuasive powers had best not let you down [23:19] * Molly looks pointedly at the girl, then the blade. She looks at Morgan with a smile. He knows her well enough to know she has something devious in mind [23:22] (Molly) M: *she looks between him and the still-poisoned knife* I do not intend to persuade you, I have terms on which I will be released [23:22] * Molly continues to smile at Morgan [23:23] (@Morgan) well, spit it out, lets not be shy... [23:25] (Molly) M: I can only leave if I will be utterly forgotten and ignored so that I may continue my work [23:25] (@Morgan) and whats your work? [23:25] (Molly) M: I cannot say [23:26] (@Morgan) so, let me make sure I have this straight... you'll only leave if you'll be forgotten and allowed to continue god only knows what... [23:26] * @Morgan looks at Molly and shrugs [23:26] (@Morgan) excuse me, I know I tried to kill you, but could you release me and let me carry on doing, ummm... something? [23:27] (Molly) M: If I become known, I will be executed regardless [23:28] (@Morgan) Lets say, for example, that knowledge of your identity, task, whatever, becomes known to the persons in this room but goes no further... [23:29] (Molly) M: *she looks skeptical* until you're tortured by them until you'd confess anything to escape. [23:30] * @Morgan raises an eyebrow [23:30] (@Morgan) a 'them'... I've dealt with 'them's before. [23:31] * Molly laughs softly [23:32] (Molly) I can only presume, Mon petit chou, that your reputation has not spread to this girl or her... Handlers. [23:32] (Molly) M: *she nods* I have no idea who you are [23:33] (@Morgan) it would appear not... interesting my reputation spread through Eisen and a lot of Avalon, and even some Castille, but not Montaigne... particularly odd, given my friendship with the good captain [23:34] (Molly) M: I do not know of this Captain. And I rarely work in Eisen, particularly this far south [23:34] * @Morgan looks to Molly [23:34] (@Morgan) you'll note she didn't mention Castille or Avalon, though... [23:35] * Molly leans back in her chair, looking utterly relaxed and amused. [23:36] (Molly) Fascinating, non? How does an ex-whore become involved with something so illegal that she can no longer give a name? [23:37] (Molly) M: *she looks outraged* I was never a whore! [23:38] * Molly smiles lazily at Morgan, raising an eyebrow [23:38] (Molly) You were never a whore, were you, Mon petit chou? [23:41] (@Morgan) I think I'd recall doing such [23:43] (Molly) Which is precisely why _you_ didnt understand the secret code of the whores. *she looks to the girl* ma cherie, if you're going to claim you cannot have your identity known, you really ought to be much wiser than you are. [23:44] (Molly) M: *she looks both annoyed and caught out* [23:45] * Molly shrugs, looking at Morgan [23:46] (Molly) You may also note that she didn't object when I said her work was illegal, and that her poor use of her own language implies a low level of education [23:47] * @Morgan nods [23:47] (Molly) M: *she frowns, looking wary* [23:47] * Molly switches to Avalon [23:48] (Molly) I'd be shocked if she's ever been to Avalon as whores, especially this young, aren't likely to have traveled [23:49] (Molly) M: *she looks quite confused and a little worried [23:50] * Molly repeats it in castillean, though a little slower as her own knowledge isn't brilliant either. At the ends she adds [23:51] (Molly) And if she did know castillean, she'd be amused that I'd said Avalon rather than castile this time *the girls expression doesn't change* [23:52] * @Morgan nods slowly [23:52] * Molly returns to montaigne [23:53] (Molly) Perhaps rather than me waste a perfectly good evening whilst my champagne warms too much sat here playing the fabulous detective, we can cut to the chase? [23:57] (Molly) M: *she looks very uneasy, nodding slightly. She looks at Morgan as if he's the lesser of two evils* they will kill me. I am worth more to them dead than compromised [23:58] (@Morgan) I still need you to tell me... [23:59] (Molly) M: I can tell you that had you not risked my mission I wouldn't have harmed you [23:59] (@Morgan) what had you done? [00:00] (Molly) M: I have and will continue to do what I am told [00:00] (@Morgan) thats not what I asked [00:01] (Molly) M: the things I have done in the past are not relevant. I am not forced to work for them against my will [00:02] * @Morgan looks at Molly [00:02] (@Morgan) do you think she misunderstood me? [00:02] * @Morgan looks back at the girl [00:03] (@Morgan) what had you done that would make my, lets say investigating, an issue for you? [00:04] (Molly) M: *she speaks unashamedly* robbery, burglary, assault, theft and a little arson [00:04] (@Morgan) was anyone injured in the arson? [00:05] (Molly) M: no, it was a distraction to allow me to continue unnoticed [00:06] (@Morgan) so you're prepared to offer what in return for being released? [00:06] * Molly continues fiddling with the knife [00:07] (Molly) M: that I will commit no further crimes than are absolutely necessary and be gone as soon as my mission is fulfilled [00:08] * @Morgan laughs [00:12] (@Morgan) I'm sorry, thats not exactly any assurance of anything... you're essentially just asking me to let you go, let you continue with whatever you were doing, then let you escape... [00:12] (Molly) M: precisely [00:12] * @Morgan looks at her, speaking montaigne [00:13] (@Morgan) No. [00:13] (Molly) M: don't get involved, don't make an issue of it or draw attention, and all will be well. [00:13] * @Morgan glances at Molly [00:13] (@Morgan) you really have no idea who I am, do you? [00:14] * Molly looks amused though he can see it's far from genuine [00:14] * @Morgan looks at Molly again [00:14] (Molly) M: not at all. My mission has both to do with you [00:14] (@Morgan) was that a veiled threat she just made? [00:15] * Molly smiles [00:16] (Molly) Quite possibly. Though I grow tired of her repetition. I'm far more interested in this poison than her plans... But I am easily bored [00:16] * @Morgan nods, looking back to the girl [00:19] (@Morgan) let me enlighten you here... I'm the man that had the nerve to pull the trigger at his own CO... I'm the man that had the nobles from all over this area digging in dirt and lugging stone... I'm the man that claimed an island after deactivating a syrinth device... I'm the man that an inquisitor wouldn't touch, in a _casitilian monestary_... [00:20] (@Morgan) I'm the man that defended an estate from a barrage of monster for a _month_, singlehanded, after a montaigne trickster opened one of his cursed portals... [00:20] (@Morgan) I'm the man that banished the Comte de le fare from my lands on pain of death... [00:21] (Molly) M: *she pales noticeablely, looking like she might faint* [00:21] * Molly smiles [00:23] * @Morgan looks over at Molly [00:23] (@Morgan) I wonder which part she disliked the most... [00:24] (Molly) Simply marvellous, ma cherie, his face so red and eyes bulging. But youve seen him like that already, given your previous line of work? [00:25] (Molly) M: *she shakes her head subconsciously* how are you connected to him? *she looks at Morgan* [00:26] * Molly smiles briefly to herself, looking over the stiletto again [00:31] (@Morgan) can I assume you wouldn't want him to find out about your... situation here? [00:31] (Molly) M: he is of no real risk to me... [00:32] * @Morgan says nothing, watching her [00:33] (Molly) M: _he_ is of no real risk to _me_ [00:33] (@Morgan) but you are to him? [00:34] (Molly) M: *she looks angry with herself* I am not permitted to say [00:35] (@Morgan) would it make it a little easier if I told you he's not exactly on my list of allies? [00:35] (Molly) M: it would make it easier if you tell me where he is and let me go [00:36] (@Morgan) shame that, I thought we were getting somewhere [00:36] (Molly) M: you put yourself at risk by asking so much [00:37] * @Morgan shakes his head [00:37] (@Morgan) tell that to the two dead men... [00:38] (Molly) M: your life would mean even less to them than mine. *she nods towards Molly* hers even less [00:38] * Molly grins [00:40] (Molly) Even emporer Leon himself has wished me dead on occasion and even he remains unsuccessful. I am unafraid of this Eisen group you answer to [00:40] (Molly) M: then you're a fool. [00:40] * Molly winks at Morgan [00:41] (@Morgan) so, they're Eisen then... [00:41] (Molly) M: *she sighs* execute me. [00:43] (@Morgan) You forgot a third option... I think you'll stay here until 'they' come to find you... [00:43] (Molly) M: that would not happen. [00:44] (@Morgan) you'd just sit here until you die? or until you spill some secret or another? [00:46] (Molly) M: the former. My honour is oath enough that they know I would never defect. I would rather die than betray them [00:46] * @Morgan pulls a face [00:46] (@Morgan) some nasty rumours often go around... I should know [00:47] (@Morgan) I think I have enough information to make life a little uncomfortable... [00:47] * Molly nods [00:48] (Molly) Most certainly Mon petit chou. In fact I would say she has betrayed them already [00:48] (Molly) M : *she looks genuinely upset* [00:49] * Molly shrugs [00:51] (Molly) M: it would be better for me to be dead [00:51] (@Morgan) just tell me what your mission is... you never know, I might even help [00:53] (Molly) M: *she shakes her head* their mission is too important to allow outsiders to know. Either you take my life or I shall find a way to do it myself. I will not reveal any more [00:54] * Molly rolls her eyes, though he can tell she's a little concerned [00:55] (@Morgan) whats it _for_? [00:55] (Molly) Mon petit chou, if she wishes to die and will not tell you what the poison is for, perhaps she would be willing to demonstrate its effects? [00:56] * @Morgan nods slowly [00:56] (@Morgan) I suppose that'd give us at least _some_ information to be going on with [00:56] (Molly) M: *she looks seriously afraid* no, no please, not that! [00:57] (@Morgan) I didn'ty think it was _that_ bad... certainly I've had worse [00:57] * Molly turns it around, looking at the poison. [00:58] (Molly) M: please, don't! I dont know why it didnt work on you! If it had we wouldn't be here! [00:59] * Molly speaks with a false air of distraction. [01:00] (Molly) I wonder if I should go back and retrieve that odd little bur that buried in my lovely petit chou and nearly stole his life? [01:02] (Molly) M: *she looks terrified* how did you get the seed?! That can't be done! That can't be done! [20:53] * @Morgan nods slightly [20:53] (@Morgan) normally... you haven't noticed I'm not your average Eisen man... [20:53] * Molly smiles, waving the knife nonchalantly [20:54] (Molly) He really isn't, ma cherie... He does the impossible very often [20:55] (Molly) **he can see a slight tension around the corners of Mollys eyes [20:55] (Molly) M: *she looks afraid and excited* tell me how you removed it, and I will tell you about the poison [20:56] (@Morgan) You first, I think [20:59] (Molly) M: *she nods, slightly warily* the poison is made of vervain, flax seed and poppy seed, along with those crushed burs [21:00] * Molly tries hard not to look too interested [21:01] (Molly) The burs are likely the key ingredient, the others would just make one sleepy [21:01] (Molly) M: *she looks at Morgan* how did you remove it [21:02] (@Morgan) Why's it supposedly so hard to? [21:04] (Molly) M: it latches itself to a persons tissues as easily as to clothes. It becomes almost part of you [21:06] * Molly laughs softly [21:07] (Molly) And this small irritant within a mild sedative is the best your handlers can furnish you with? Ma cherie, what a waste! [21:08] (Molly) M: *she looks annoyed* it is one of the greatest poisons ever created! They spent thousands of guilders on it! [21:09] * Molly smiles slightly at Morgan [21:10] (Molly) I've seen far better. [21:10] (@Morgan) I hope they kept a receipt... [21:12] (Molly) M: *she shakes her head* you're wrong! It is the most useful potion ever made! Even fatal poisons are worthless beside it! [21:13] * Molly smiles once more [21:14] (@Morgan) whats it _meant_ to do, since it isn't meant to kill you [21:14] (Molly) M: *she looks indecisive* you _will_ tell me how you removed it? [21:15] (@Morgan) I dont see how that matters, if I'm honest... would you enlighten me on that, assuming I tell you how it was removed? [21:16] (Molly) M: *she nods* [21:17] (@Morgan) I keep my word. [21:19] (Molly) M: it's called utsäde av glömska [21:19] ** New query from Morgan (Available on submenu 'Windows') [21:19] (@Morgan) sounds Ussuran [21:21] (Molly) M: it is Vesten... It means seed of forgetfulness [21:24] (Molly) How does it work? [21:25] (Molly) M: *she sighs* once it's in the target, they lose conciousness. Then, for a very brief time, you can alter their memories and give them instructions. [21:26] * Molly cannot hide her surprise [21:26] (Molly) How awful! [21:27] (@Morgan) how useful... [21:27] (Molly) M: *she looks at Morgan with a nod* it is very useful if you are captured or compromised [21:31] (Molly) You intended to change his memories? [21:31] * Molly looks tense now, somewhat unimpressed [21:32] (Molly) M: *she shrugs* ideally, though if I'd had to kill him I would have. [21:33] * Molly 's jaw tightens, and for a brief second it seems impossible to predict her next action. Then she smiles indulgently, playfully [21:34] (Molly) It is a good thing that you hit your target then, no? [21:35] (Molly) M: *she shrugs a little, looking to Morgan* I did what I had to [21:37] (@Morgan) it was a good throw... I suspect anyone else would've been rather overcome [21:39] (Molly) M: *she nods* always. The utsäde av glömska has never failed to work on anyone before, or be removed. It heals over once the person is given the command to forget it, and so it remains in them, making sure they do not regain their memory [21:40] * Molly frowns deeply though remains quiet [21:48] (@Morgan) well, its failed and been removed now [21:49] (Molly) M: I need to tell them. I might not be executed if I can warn them about this [21:49] (@Morgan) Its possible, probable, in fact, that wont be the case with anyone else... [21:50] (Molly) M: how did you remove it? [21:52] * Molly smiles [21:53] * Molly looks briefly at Morgan as if waiting to see if he's happy for her to continue [21:53] * @Morgan nods slightly [21:57] (Molly) I am somewhat knowledgeable about the human body. It was an interest inspired by many pleasant evenings with an Eisenfurst of similar persuasions. As a Gift of Parting, he gave me a Dracheneisen bladed scalpel. It was with this I removed it. [21:57] (Molly) M: *she nods* I do not think they have tried Dracheneisen before, it is too rare. [21:58] * Molly smiles at Morgan, obviously waiting to see his reaction [21:58] (Molly) It helps to have friends in high places and a chequered past [21:59] * @Morgan smiles slightly [22:00] (Molly) M: will you let me go? [22:02] (@Morgan) No, not yet... you're a little too dangerous to be milling about affecting peoples minds [22:03] * Molly smiles [22:03] (Molly) A wise point, Mon petit chou. We really should be sure she has no more of this potion, no? [22:06] (@Morgan) that'd be a good idea I think [22:09] * Molly stands, rapidly patting the girl down. She finds two more vials of this potion, and returns to Morgan, holding them carefully [22:09] (Molly) I think we'll all rest a little easier now. [22:11] (Molly) **there's a knock on the door** [22:12] (@Morgan) come in [22:12] (Molly) **walder enters** anything you need, Milord? [22:13] * @Morgan looks at Molly [22:13] (@Morgan) I think we're ok for now... unless you want anything? [22:14] * Molly looks.thoughtful [22:14] (Molly) No, but don't go too far, we might need her guarded while we discuss our options [22:17] (Molly) **he nods and leaves** [22:17] * Molly smiles at Morgan, waiting to see what he does next [22:18] (@Morgan) so, this mission of yours... who's it aimed at? [22:20] (Molly) M: I can't tell you about the mission. [22:21] (@Morgan) yes you can [22:21] (Molly) M: I won't. [22:21] (@Morgan) I dont like to threaten people, but would you care to take a wager on that? [22:24] (Molly) M: *she nods* you say you are a special case, so the information about this would not be worth as much to them as maintaining secrecy. I will die before I tell you. [22:25] (@Morgan) No no no... you might be wounded just a little though [22:26] (Molly) M: I've been tortured before and it didnt work. I am unafraid [22:27] (@Morgan) I wouldn't dream of torturing you... no, something else, but if its any consolation, you wont remember it, and you wont mind answering my questions [22:30] (Molly) M: *she looks a little unsure* I'll take my chances [22:30] (@Morgan) you're hoping you're an exception, too? [22:30] (Molly) M: I am [22:31] (@Morgan) well, lets have a comparison, see how alike we are... how many times have you died? [22:31] (Molly) M: *she looks confused* none? [22:32] (@Morgan) hmmm, that doesn't bode well... how many, lets say, monsters have you overcome? [22:34] (Molly) M: *she pales, looking haunted* two [22:34] (@Morgan) and what were they? [22:35] (Molly) M: bishops, I believe.I couldn't tell without their clothes. [22:35] * Molly blinks a moment, though doesn't interrupt [22:36] (@Morgan) not quite what I meant... whats the longest you've gone without sleep? and still been able to function, I might add [22:36] (Molly) M: five days [22:36] * @Morgan nods [22:38] (@Morgan) lets tally this up, see how you compare to me shall we... I've fought dragons, fire wizards, an entity that compels you to murder... and countless lesser minions, I've stayed awake for more than a month, while fighting said monsters I might add... and I've died twice. [22:38] * @Morgan watches her digest this information [22:39] (Molly) M: *she looks shocked, then shrugs* I'll take my chances. I cannot betray them out of choice or weakness [22:40] (@Morgan) they scare you that much? [22:40] (Molly) M: I love them that much. [22:41] (@Morgan) well that rules out goblins... nasty little beggars [22:42] (Molly) M: *she just nods* [22:42] * @Morgan shakes his head slowly [22:42] (@Morgan) I hate stupid people [22:43] (Molly) M: there is a difference between stupidity and loyalty [22:43] (@Morgan) Oh, I know, but in this case, you're rather convincing at being both... or stupid for being loyal. [22:44] (Molly) M: *she shakes her head* I do what I must. [22:45] (@Morgan) so does a dog with an itch. [22:45] * @Morgan shrugs, looking at Molly [22:46] (@Morgan) anything you want with her? [22:46] * Molly smiles a little [22:46] (Molly) I don't think so [22:48] * Molly remains seated, clearly not intending to leave unless told to [22:48] * @Morgan nods [22:49] (@Morgan) we'll be off then, I think... oh, actually... the target of this little quest of yours... wasn't the Baroness was it? [22:50] (Molly) M: *she shakes her head* No, she wasn't [22:50] (@Morgan) was it to harm Innesbruck? [22:50] (Molly) M: *she shakes her head* no [22:51] (@Morgan) Then you and I might not be at crosspurposes as you think... [22:52] (Molly) M: my purpose requires my absolute secrecy, and yours requires my absolute truth. In that we are entirely at cross-purposes [22:53] (@Morgan) I can keep a secret [22:53] * Molly rises, carrying the knife and the vials [22:53] (Molly) M: so can I. [22:53] * @Morgan nods at the vials [22:54] (@Morgan) not for long, I think [22:54] * @Morgan stands up [22:54] (Molly) M: *she nods briefly* [22:56] * Molly goes to the door, giving Walder instructions to watch her. They head back to the drawing room of blue and gold. After taking the time to lock away the knife and potions, Molly is sat on the desk, a familiar pose, watching him [22:57] (Molly) I'm sorry if my behaviour confused you, liebes herz [22:57] * @Morgan looks at her a moment [22:57] (@Morgan) cabbage... [22:58] * Molly smiles broadly [22:58] (Molly) Just a term of endearment I heard [22:59] * @Morgan snorts [23:00] (Molly) If it hadn't been a necessary distraction, it would have been quite enjoyable [23:00] * Molly watches him solemnly [23:01] * @Morgan shakes his head [23:01] (@Morgan) cabbage... [23:01] (@Morgan) She's an interesting one, dont you think? [23:01] * Molly nods [23:02] (Molly) Very strange. I am beginning to wonder why trouble finds us so easily [23:02] (@Morgan) I wonder if that was just a little wrong time wrong place... though, I have to say, the rest of the trouble I encountered was of my own making [23:03] * Molly frowns [23:03] (Molly) What happened down there? ((if he tells it honestly, just say)) [23:04] (@Morgan) ((he would)) [23:04] * Molly shakes her head a little [23:05] (Molly) Sometimes I wish I could just tie you up and haul you onto the Rose and keep you from harm forever [23:05] (@Morgan) I'd fine some way of causing trouble... besides, it needed to be done [23:05] * Molly nods [23:05] (@Morgan) and I didn't take kindly to the way they spoke of you [23:06] (Molly) I know. But I worry for you regardless [23:06] (Molly) Of me? Why? [23:06] (@Morgan) it was unkind... I wont have that [23:07] * Molly 's eyes darken briefly [23:07] (Molly) I seem to get you into a great many rights [23:07] (Molly) Fights* [23:07] (@Morgan) Oh, no, I got myself into this one... it was going that way anyway [23:09] * Molly nods. She holds her hands out to him [23:09] * @Morgan takes them [23:09] (Molly) How are you feeling now? [23:09] (Molly) ** he feels that warm pleasant sensation of belonging [23:09] (@Morgan) disappointed that it came to what it did... but otherwise fine [23:10] (Molly) No pain, or memory gaps? [23:10] (@Morgan) a little sore I suppose, but thats it [23:11] * Molly nods, though looks distracted [23:11] (Molly) What a scary potion that is [23:12] * @Morgan nods [23:14] * Molly sighs [23:14] (Molly) So much power [23:15] (@Morgan) thats very very dangerous [23:17] * Molly nods [23:18] (Molly) I don't know who this group are, but it terrifies me that anyone is running around Eisen with the ability to control others, even make them forget their loved ones [23:18] (@Morgan) That really needs to be stopped [23:21] * Molly nods [23:21] (Molly) What do we do? [23:21] (@Morgan) I'm not altogether sure [23:24] * Molly nods. She squeezes his hands [23:24] (Molly) If we let her go, her report about you withstanding the potion may make you a target [23:25] * @Morgan nods [23:29] (Molly) If we execute her... She frowns slightly [21:31] (Molly) There's only one other option [21:31] (@Morgan) oh? [21:32] * Molly looks back to him [21:32] (Molly) We could use the potion on her...much as I dislike it. [21:33] (@Morgan) I dont think I'm particularly keen on that idea [21:34] * Molly sighs softly [21:35] (Molly) Me either, liebes herz... A persons memories should be their own, for no-one else to dictate who is remembered and who forgotten [21:36] * @Morgan nods [21:36] (@Morgan) looks like we keep hold of her for now then [21:37] * Molly nods slowly [21:37] (Molly) I can see no other option [21:39] * Molly smiles a little [21:42] (Molly) How did the meeting go? Apart from having to kill people and nearly having your mind erased, of course *she grins but there is a wealth of sadness in her eyes* [21:43] (@Morgan) Well, most of them seemed receptive, apart from a group who set themselves aside... though they seem to have gotten the message now [21:43] (Molly) That is good. I had a look at the books [21:44] * @Morgan nods [21:44] (@Morgan) how bad is it? [21:44] * Molly frowns slightly [21:45] (Molly) It isn't wonderful. I suspect that he has a large amount of money squirreled away somewhere, as with Alarice [21:46] (@Morgan) Well, Alarice may decide to part with that for some art... [21:46] * Molly giggles [21:47] (Molly) You truly intend to blackmail your own cousin with her naked portrait?! [21:47] (@Morgan) Blackmail would be demanding payment continually while keeping the evidence... [21:49] (Molly) Would 'sell at an extortionate price' be more accurate? [21:49] * @Morgan nods [21:49] (@Morgan) people love art, though, so a high value is to be expected [21:50] (Molly) Oh yes, especially for such an unusual piece! [21:50] * Molly smiles warmly [21:55] (Molly) Are you entirely sure you wouldn't wish to have such a painting of me? *she giggles* [21:56] (@Morgan) I certainly wouldn't complain at having one [22:01] * Molly blushes, having expected an entirely different response [22:05] (Molly) Perhaps... Perhaps it would be a new hobby for you? Painting, I mean [22:05] (@Morgan) Not something I've ever tried... I sketch occasionally [22:06] * Molly smiles, still a little flushed [22:06] (Molly) Perhaps you might draw me naked? [22:06] (@Morgan) perhaps [22:06] (@Morgan) I didn't say I'm any good, mind [22:07] * Molly bites her lower lip [22:07] (Molly) I'm not sure I could stay still long enough completely undressed [22:08] (@Morgan) bit cold, I suppose [22:08] * Molly says something very quietly [22:08] * @Morgan frowns [22:08] ** You are now disconnected (recvfrom failed: ETIMEDOUT (Connection timed out)) ------------------------------ Logging started for Blitzed:#7thseaic on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 10:09:31 PM Greenwich Mean Time ------------------------------ [22:09] ** Reconnecting to irc.blitzed.org:6667… [22:09] ** You are now disconnected (recvfrom failed: ETIMEDOUT (Connection timed out)) [22:09] ** Reconnecting to irc.blitzed.org:6667… [22:09] ** You are now disconnected (Network connection lost) [22:09] ** Reconnecting to irc.blitzed.org:6667… [22:09] (433) Molly :Nickname is already in use. I know _how_ the books were cheated. To an unperceptive person, it would just appear that Innesbruck costs more to run than it makes [22:15] * @Morgan nods [22:17] (MollyK) How often would you expect to fully rethatch a tenants roof? [22:18] (@Morgan) depends on the severity of the weather up to that point, fire not withstanding [22:20] (MollyK) Assuming there have been no severe storms or fires [22:21] (@Morgan) assuming the thatch was good, anything up to half century [22:21] * MollyK nods [22:22] (MollyK) Most have supposedly been rethatched twice or three times in the last eighteen months. [22:22] (@Morgan) how many major storms and fires? [22:23] (MollyK) One minor fire [22:24] (@Morgan) thats just... stupid [22:24] (MollyK) I would wager that the thatcher here recollects very few of these supposed jobs [22:25] (@Morgan) thats not a wager I'd bet against [22:27] (MollyK) There's compensation for herds that never existed, banquet costs for parties that don't seem to have been thrown, costs of horses, carriages and so on that aren't listed elsewhere. There are even costs for redecorating and renovating the rest of the house! [22:27] (@Morgan) clever... I wonder who came up with the idea [22:28] * MollyK shrugs slightly [22:28] (MollyK) I have no idea. It explains why our fathers were not suspicious though [22:28] * @Morgan nods [22:29] * MollyK squeezes his hands briefly [22:30] (MollyK) I would suggest a way forward, if you'd like? [22:30] (@Morgan) always [22:30] * MollyK smiles, pleased [22:31] (MollyK) Firstly, we need to go to his house and find any money hidden there [22:31] * @Morgan nods [22:31] (@Morgan) I'll get my... damn, I left my axe in the hall [22:32] (MollyK) In the village? [22:32] * @Morgan nods [22:32] (@Morgan) last saw it wedged into the woodwork [22:33] * MollyK smiles a little [22:33] (MollyK) No-one in their right mind would steal it now [22:33] (@Morgan) probably not, no [22:36] (MollyK) After that, we'll sell anything worth selling in Koln, and raffle the rest to the villagers who need it. I'm nOT entirely sure what we do with the house itself yet [22:38] * MollyK smiles [22:38] (@Morgan) No, thats going to be something of a problem... there's not a great deal we can do with it [22:38] (MollyK) Why not? [22:39] (@Morgan) cant tear it down, it'll benefit noone... [22:40] (MollyK) We could rent it to whichever family is in the greatest need of space or in the worst house now... [22:41] * @Morgan nods slowly [22:41] (@Morgan) not bad, not bad [22:41] * MollyK grins [22:45] (MollyK) Or we _don't_ charge rent, they live there for free. They use all the land to grow food and whatever they don't need for their family is to be given to the poorest families in the village? [22:45] (@Morgan) Dont forget the village still needs to be paid for, though [22:46] (MollyK) But their labour and time would be their payment [22:46] * @Morgan nods [22:46] (@Morgan) I see [22:47] * MollyK frowns slightly [22:47] (MollyK) You don't approve? [22:47] (@Morgan) No, not that... just trying to follow your reasoning [22:49] (MollyK) We haven't got much use for the house, people need food, it would be a good thing for the community, the tenant will work harder to please you and stay rent free [22:50] * @Morgan nods [22:50] (@Morgan) and what of _their_ home? [22:52] (MollyK) If it is in bearable condition, it could be used to give a family chance to branch out rather than multiple generations under one roof? [22:52] (@Morgan) perhaps take the opportunity to improve it a little... [22:52] * MollyK nods [22:55] (MollyK) Also, Bauer should take some of the profits from Koln, perhaps two hundred guilders, and buy whatever food Koln would be selling here or in Seeufer to give us a headstart [22:56] * @Morgan nods [22:56] (@Morgan) alright [22:57] (MollyK) That would form some of the redress for where Alarice took more from Innesbruck than Koln [22:57] * @Morgan nods [22:58] (@Morgan) plus whatever my income would be from Koln... [22:58] * MollyK nods [22:58] (MollyK) You hardly need it. I believe Alarice was taking a thousand a year. [22:59] * @Morgan nods [23:00] (MollyK) Perhaps we should just tell him how many people we need to feed, and him arrange an appropriate amount of food to come regularly until either Innesbruck can support itself or 1,500 guilders runs out? [23:01] * @Morgan nods [23:01] (@Morgan) makes sense [23:01] * MollyK nods [23:02] (MollyK) Depending upon the people here and our luck, it could take a while. At present, Innesbruck has less than 500 guilders to its name. [23:06] * @Morgan shakes his head [23:06] (@Morgan) that is not good [23:07] (MollyK) No, not at all. But it has you, liebling. [23:08] * MollyK smiles softly [23:08] (MollyK) If anyone can make this right, it is you [23:09] (@Morgan) maybe... we'll just have to hope [23:09] * MollyK shakes her head [23:10] (MollyK) We'll just have to make it happen. [23:11] (@Morgan) kicking and screaming, I suppose [23:12] (MollyK) If necessary, yes. One thing that is essential, we need to know precisely what urgent repairs and improvements need to be made, and also what can wait til after the harvest. [23:12] * @Morgan nods [23:13] (MollyK) I'd suggest appointing a villager. Have him or her collate all the information and go from there? [23:13] * @Morgan nods slowly [23:14] (@Morgan) good idea [23:14] * MollyK blushes [23:15] (MollyK) I'm sorry, this must be a little like teaching one's grandmother to suck eggs. I am perhaps a little over-excited to have a hand in powerful decision making, its a great rarity for someone such as I [23:16] (@Morgan) you're better at it than I... I tend to just threaten people and be done with it [23:16] * MollyK smiles softly [23:17] (MollyK) You do yourself a disservice, liebes herz. [23:19] (@Morgan) No, I just speak the truth [23:19] (MollyK) I know how you like speeches though. One about cooperation with each other and helping each other whilst we all work to bring the village back to prosperity might be useful? [23:19] (@Morgan) cooperate or I'll beat you up? [23:19] * MollyK giggles [23:20] (MollyK) You are partial to threats [23:20] * @Morgan nods [23:23] (MollyK) So, sell the ugly painting, sell Alarice her painting, have Bauer supply food, ask villagers to prioritise needs and help each other, find any hidden money, use help from Sudlachenburg to harvest. [23:23] * @Morgan nods [23:23] * MollyK grins [23:23] (@Morgan) all good so far [23:25] (MollyK) Once the harvest is in, they can use and sell the crop. Less reliance on Koln, and people will be able to pay their rents and taxes, at rates that are fair. [23:25] * @Morgan nods [23:25] (@Morgan) sounds good [23:26] (MollyK) It will take a little longer by taxing at a much reduced rate, but the long term benefits of such outweigh the slower recovery [23:26] * @Morgan nods [23:27] (@Morgan) it'd be a more solid, stable recovery... like getting up slowly from an injury, rather than jumping up [23:27] * MollyK smiles [23:27] (MollyK) Precisely. And they'll trust you far more knowing that you're wanting to help them more than line your pockets [23:28] * @Morgan nods [23:29] (MollyK) A wise man once told me running a town is very similar to running a ship, except you always know where a town is [23:30] * @Morgan nods slowly [23:30] (@Morgan) sounds wise indeed [23:30] (MollyK) Perhaps I was not as unsuited to life at sea as I feared [23:34] * @Morgan nods [23:34] (@Morgan) I suspect not [23:35] * MollyK shrugs slightly [23:35] (MollyK) I would never have been happy with leaving you behind [23:36] (@Morgan) you'd have managed [23:36] * MollyK shakes her head with an affectionate smile [23:36] (MollyK) Not even for a day [23:39] * @Morgan blushes slightly [23:39] (@Morgan) thankfully, not a situation we have to endure [23:40] (MollyK) There isn't a minute that goes by that I am not thankful for what we have [23:41] * MollyK loosens his hands [23:41] (MollyK) Would you like me to handle all the written parts of what we've planned? [23:41] (@Morgan) if you wish to, I'll not complain [23:42] * MollyK nods [23:43] (MollyK) I've not got a huge amount of cleaning to do here. I look forward to a time when we can afford to redecorate though [23:43] * @Morgan nods [23:43] (@Morgan) what do you have in mind? [23:44] (MollyK) Something a little more modern, maybe some Avalon colours, though nothing garish. [23:45] * @Morgan nods [23:45] (@Morgan) I could live with that [23:45] * MollyK smiles, looking around the room [23:45] (MollyK) This room will be unchanged though [23:45] * @Morgan nods [23:46] * MollyK leans in, speaking soft [23:47] (MollyK) I think it would make a fantastic background for your first nude sketch of me... [23:47] * @Morgan nods slowly [23:48] * MollyK smiles [23:48] (MollyK) And on that thought, I think I shall go and prepare for bed, if that pleases you? [23:48] * @Morgan nods [23:49] (@Morgan) of course blossom [23:49] (MollyK) I'll see you shortly, liebling? [23:49] * @Morgan nods [23:51] (@Morgan) I'll not be long [23:51] * MollyK takes one of the candles as she hops down from the desk. She curtsies to him with a little amused smile. [23:53] * @Morgan smiles gently, watching her leave ------------------------------ Logging started for Blitzed:#7thseaic on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 9:14:45 PM Greenwich Mean Time ------------------------------ [21:14] ** You have joined #7thseaic [21:14] ** New query from Morgan (Available on submenu 'Windows') [21:27] (Walder) **molly has taken herself off to bed. At present, Walder is guarding the girl. [21:27] * @Morgan walks to the room where the girl is held [21:32] * Walder is sat outside the locked door, conversing in montaigne with her with surprising ease [21:33] * @Morgan listens for a moment before speaking [21:33] (@Morgan) anything of interest? [21:38] * Walder shrugs, smiling [21:39] (Walder) 's been a long time since I had chance to speak the language, Milord [21:39] (@Morgan) flows off the tongue, doesn't it [21:39] * Walder smiles slightly [21:40] (Walder) My late wife, Jacques mother, was montaigne. Makes me feel close to her, silly at it sounds. [21:40] * @Morgan shakes his head [21:40] (@Morgan) not silly... not at all [21:42] (Walder) Thank you, Milord. [21:43] (@Morgan) We'll be keeping the young lady here for a time. I dont really want her running about doing whatever she was doing [21:44] * Walder nods [21:46] (Walder) The cellar is the best place, Milord. Your uncle had it built as a safe room in case Vaticine troops came, so that your aunt and cousins would be protected. [21:46] * @Morgan nods [21:46] (@Morgan) good, that sounds about perfect [21:46] * Walder nods [21:47] (Walder) Would you like me to stand watch tonight? [21:48] (@Morgan) For a few hours, yes, then I'll relieve you. [21:48] * Walder nods [21:48] * @Morgan offers his hand [21:49] (@Morgan) thank you for your help tonight, Walder [21:49] (Walder) Of course, Milord. I'll do anything I can to help. Me and Jacques will. [21:51] * Walder shakes his hand [21:53] (@Morgan) I'll be back in a while, I'm going to have a look around [21:54] * Walder nods. He waits til Morgan heads off before talking once more to the captive. [21:54] * @Morgan wanders the house [21:59] (Walder) **its a good size and not changed at all since his childhood when he used to visit his uncle. He circles through a large kitchen, scullery, dining room, small ballroom, two more drawing rooms before moving upstairs to the eight bedrooms [22:00] (Walder) **it all seems quite secure, all doors locked. [22:00] * @Morgan heads to his bedroom [22:00] ** You're now known as Molly [22:00] -NickServ- This nickname is registered. Please choose a different nickname, or identify via /msg NickServ identify . [22:01] -NickServ- You are now identified for Molly. [22:02] * Molly is again reading the Eisen military history book, this time under the covers with bare shoulders exposed. She looks engrossed. A warm fire burns in the grate [22:03] * @Morgan sits on the edge of the bed [22:03] (@Morgan) dont you find those rather tedious? [22:04] * Molly looks up with a smile [22:05] (Molly) I find it fascinating, the tactics, the reasons that spark conflicts [22:06] (@Morgan) normally something stupid [22:07] * Molly tucks a ribbon in to mark her page before rolling to one side to put the book down. It confirms that she is not just bare at the shoulder. She rolls back to reply [22:07] (Molly) Quite often yes, but fascinating nonetheless [22:09] * @Morgan shrugs [22:09] (Molly) Did you find it tedious when you learnt as a child? [22:10] * @Morgan nods [22:10] (@Morgan) I did, actually... [22:10] * Molly looks thoughtful [22:11] (Molly) Did you find learning how to rule tedious also? [22:12] (@Morgan) haven't done much of that, I dont think. I think most of my lessons in that respect were actually lessons in how to behave towards other people [22:12] * Molly smiles [22:12] (Molly) So Innesbruck is somewhat of a crash course for you too? [22:13] * @Morgan nods [22:13] * Molly looks at him earnestly [22:13] (@Morgan) sort of. Its just a case of finding what the end goal needs to be, then how to achieve it... [22:14] * Molly nods [22:14] (Molly) I think we have at least found a starting point. [22:15] * @Morgan nods [22:15] (@Morgan) absolutely [22:15] (Molly) What is it you'd like me to do here, liebes herz? [22:15] * @Morgan looks confused [22:16] * Molly giggles [22:16] (Molly) I mean in Innesbruck, not in bed! [22:16] (@Morgan) I still dont understand [22:18] (Molly) I could look after the house, our meals, our washing... Or I could handle all the administrative tasks for the house and village... Or I could liaise with the villagers. I will do anything you bid of me [22:19] * Molly smiles slightly as if at an inner thought [22:19] (@Morgan) I think thats something we'll have to arrange when the time comes... I think we'll need another member of staff or two here, but your help with the administration would be appreciated [22:21] * Molly nods [22:22] (Molly) There is much that Jacques and I can do, but at least one more maid would be useful. There are several empty cottages besides Walders that were used for staff after Alarice banned them from living in the house [22:23] * @Morgan shakes his head slowly [22:23] (@Morgan) I'm given to wonder if she's a bit mad [22:25] * Molly smiles [22:25] (Molly) Usually I'd agree but I think in this case she has a point [22:26] (@Morgan) oh? [22:27] (Molly) It would be nice to be completely alone together, as we were in the cottage by the gatehouse, especially now we are married [22:27] * @Morgan nods [22:27] (Molly) Also, from the other side, I think servants need their own homes, their own space, whenever possible [22:28] * @Morgan nods [22:28] (@Morgan) as you wish [22:28] (Molly) You would prefer to have live-in staff? [22:28] * @Morgan shrugs [22:29] (@Morgan) Anyplace I've been with staff, they've lived in the house [22:29] (Molly) If it does not work, I'm happy to try the traditional method [22:30] (Molly) Do you think you could come to like living here? [22:31] (@Morgan) I suspect so... the people here mostly seem ok, but they're very worn down and wary [22:31] * Molly watches him as if unsure whether he's staying or not [22:32] (Molly) Alarice did that to us in a few weeks, imagine it after several years! [22:33] * @Morgan nods [22:33] (@Morgan) very true [22:33] (Molly) I meant more the house though [22:33] (@Morgan) I would imagine so [22:36] (Molly) good. Our time between returning to dry land and having to rule Sudlachenburg could be enjoyed somewhere quiet like this. Just the two of us... [22:36] * Molly smiles softly [22:37] * @Morgan nods [22:41] (Molly) For a little while at least [22:41] * Molly watches him [22:42] * @Morgan nods slowly [22:42] (Molly) Are you going to stand guard tonight? [22:43] (@Morgan) later. I'm planning to sleep a bit first [22:43] * Molly smiles [22:43] (Molly) I'm sorry, I'm keeping you up by talking so much [22:43] (@Morgan) dont be silly blossom [22:45] * Molly laughs softly [22:45] (Molly) I have warmed the bed for you [22:48] * @Morgan smiles, standing to undress [22:50] * Molly tries very hard not to stare as he does, mostly managing [22:50] * @Morgan rolls his shoulders before climbing into bed [22:50] (Molly) Do you like being in control here, liebling? [22:51] (@Morgan) its rather daunting, actually [22:53] (Molly) Even though it's in your nature? [22:53] (@Morgan) you think? [22:54] * Molly turns on her side to watch him, ruby curls spread across her pillow. She speaks quieter now he's in bed [22:54] (Molly) To be in control? Yes, I do [22:54] (@Morgan) I'm not so sure [22:56] (Molly) No? How so? [22:57] (@Morgan) I just have a desire for things to be done fairly and properly... thats all [22:59] (Molly) I think you are a natural leader. You have a wonderful way of making people want to do things, not from fear but because it is right. [23:00] * @Morgan pulls a face [23:00] * Molly smiles, the fire crackling in the grate [23:00] (Molly) You do not see the greatness in you that I see [23:01] (@Morgan) No, I dont [23:01] (Molly) You are far harder on yourself than you deserve [23:02] * Molly gently places her hand on his cheek [23:06] (@Morgan) perhaps... if I were so good at convincing people to do things because they're right, I wouldn't have had to kill two people tonight [23:08] (Molly) Ah liebes herz... *she shakess her head sadly* you can't always win them all [23:11] * @Morgan sighs, nodding [23:17] * Molly moves to him, eyes full of compassion. She gently brings her lips to his, and in that touch he feels that now-familiar sense of belonging, being alright exactly as he is [23:21] * @Morgan sighs contentedly [23:23] * Molly sets about bringing him the long-offered comfort and aid she'd always promised, until both fall asleep in a satiated tangle of limbs and sheets. ------------------------------ Logging started for Blitzed:#7thseaic on Thursday, November 14, 2013 8:57:17 PM Greenwich Mean Time ------------------------------ [20:57] ** You have joined #7thseaic [20:57] ** New query from Morgan (Available on submenu 'Windows') [21:08] (Molly) **as he falls asleep, he notices her smiling as she dreams, making him hazily wonder what she's dreaming of. Soon, he realises he's barefoot in the softest, finest, whitest sand he's ever known. He hears gentle waves lapping at the sun-drenched shoreline. It's bright and hot in this secluded cove. ((mtf)) [21:12] (Molly) **upon looking, he sees the yellowish hills rise up around the edges of this beach. The trees there are unusual, without branches, just a single burst of long green leaves at the top. There are bushes with flowers in a startling array of colours, also unfamiliar. Some match the red ruffled shirt he's wearing, familiar from the day in Carleon they first met holzheim. He realises his boots are knotted at the laces and flung casually over his shoulder. His hair is also completely loose. [21:13] (Molly) ((your turn)) [21:19] * @Morgan frowns, wandering along the beach, looking round [21:20] (Molly) **towards the back of the cove is a house, built of this local stone, perhaps half the size of Innesbruck. It looks well maintained and cared for. Between him and the house is a hammock hung between two of the strange trees. One tanned leg hangs relaxed over the edge to trail in the pale powder beneath. [21:23] * @Morgan walks towards the hammock [21:28] * Molly drops the bent arm that shields her eyes and slowly sits up. It's hard to tell what strikes him first: the air of quiet confidence, the sun-bleached light copper strands in her hair, the bronzed complexion utterly unlike the one he's familiar with, the toned athleticism of her figure, or the unusual barely-there top and skirt, complete with a belt of small knives not dissimilar from the one he was hit with earlier. [21:30] * @Morgan inclines his head [21:31] * Molly smiles, hopping down. She comes to him. [21:31] (Molly) Morgan Hockridge... Aren't you a sight for sore eyes! [21:31] (@Morgan) am I? [21:33] * Molly nods. He can hear a distinct difference in her accent when she speaks, the Avalon sounds more lilting, exotic [21:33] (Molly) It has been ten years since I last saw you. You look well. [21:33] (@Morgan) ten years you say? [21:34] (Molly) **he notices writing appear in the sand as if drawn with an invisible stick %he doesn't even remember% [21:35] * Molly nods with a charming, confident smile [21:36] (@Morgan) I seem to recall you were somewhat paler [21:37] * Molly laughs [21:38] (Molly) It's much sunnier here than in Theah-main. It does beautiful things to a person. [21:38] (Molly) %so he hasn't completely forgotten me...% [21:39] (@Morgan) Theah-main... I see [21:39] (Molly) I'd forgotten quite how pleasing your voice is *she watches him with an easy, open expression* [21:41] (@Morgan) easy to think so when I'm not telling people what to do [21:41] (Molly) *she nods* I remember. I'm sorry, I doubt you use that term up there. We've called it Theah-main for many years. From just after Xsarlac appointed me as the minister of the Exterior. [21:42] (@Morgan) I seem to have missed a lot [21:43] * Molly nods [21:43] (Molly) Where are my manners? Did you want to go inside? [21:44] * @Morgan nods [21:44] (@Morgan) certainly [21:46] * Molly immediately opens the door and lets him in. She appears not to notice that they didnt walk to the house. Within seconds he's sat on a wicker low chair with a surprisingly cold drink in a beautiful blue glass. She sits opposite him, watching him with obvious pleasure at his presence [21:47] (Molly) I wasn't expecting the Coral to dock for several more days. You made good time. [21:47] (@Morgan) the Coral? [21:47] * Molly laughs [21:47] (Molly) Your ship? [21:47] (@Morgan) my ship... [21:49] (Molly) Well, it was obviously Captain Tsaylurs before the wedding... *she smiles the smile of a woman resigned to a loss but knew she tried her best* [21:49] (@Morgan) I see [21:49] * Molly looks a little concerned [21:50] (Molly) I fear you might have a touch of sunstroke. Capperlucia in high season does that to newcomers I'm afraid. Drinking will help. [21:51] (@Morgan) its certainly picturesque [21:51] * Molly smiles softly [21:52] (Molly) It is. I was awestruck when I first arrived. It was exactly what I needed after my departure from Avalon [21:53] * Molly watches him intently [21:58] * @Morgan nods [21:58] (@Morgan) I'm not surprised, its spectacular [22:00] (Molly) I knew from what he'd told me that it was lovely, but I didn't realise it was like paradise. This house and cove were a surprise gift from him, supposed to cheer me up after I was so unhappy and heartbroken. [22:00] (@Morgan) did it work? [22:01] * Molly smiles a little nonchalantly [22:01] (Molly) I am not unhappy here. I have my work, my daughters, my friends, my husband... [22:02] * @Morgan nods slowly [22:02] * Molly smiles at him compassionately [22:03] (Molly) I don't hold you to any blame. I'd always said I would do anything to help you heal, and what you needed at that time was Lady Siobhan. [22:04] * @Morgan nods again [22:04] (@Morgan) haven't heard the name Hockridge in a while [22:04] * Molly looks surprised [22:05] (Molly) Oh! I'm sorry, I just thought perhaps you had to stop using Koertig after that business with your father [22:05] (@Morgan) business with my father... [22:06] * Molly blushes, harder to tell with her tan [22:08] (Molly) Xsarlac mentioned it just after he bought Queen Betuana home. I'm sorry, it must be hard to know it's all in Edward's hands now [22:08] * @Morgan shrugs [22:10] (Molly) He must have been terribly angry about her past to disown you [22:10] (@Morgan) who knows... still, its done now [22:10] * Molly sips her drink [22:12] (Molly) So, tell me what else I have missed. Apart from a few brief envoy missions to Queen Elaine, I've not returned to Theah-main in a decade. How is your wife? [22:12] (@Morgan) Montaigne, apparently [22:13] (Molly) **he realises he can see her thoughts on the surface of the liquid %are they unhappy? Has the infatuation finally ended?% [22:14] (@Morgan) I cant say you've missed much [22:14] (Molly) "Apparently?" *she laughs* I have dearly missed your humour. No-one here is funny in the same way as you [22:15] (@Morgan) the word you're looking for is sarcastic, I suspect [22:15] * Molly nods vigourously [22:16] (Molly) Sarcasm is utterly lost here. People wear their hearts on their sleeves, no covert meanings, no hints. If we mean it, we say it. [22:17] (@Morgan) that must make life interesting [22:18] (Molly) It was a huge change from Avalon thinking. It allowed me to think about my interactions in my old life in an entirely different light [22:20] * Molly drinks from her glass again [22:20] * @Morgan nods slowly [22:20] (@Morgan) I sometimes tire of the duplicitous nature of society [22:21] (Molly) Imagine a world where no-one has to hide their feelings, everyone knows the score. Feelings aren't hurt because we do not create motivations in our minds that aren't there [22:22] * @Morgan stares at his glass [22:22] (@Morgan) you think people make their own lives difficult needlessly? [22:25] (Molly) Definitely. For example, in Avalon, you coming here would have made me hope you were seeking me out to tell me you'd made the wrong choice. Here, I accept your presence because I can see and hear you. If you have a reason for coming other than to see and speak to me, it will become apparent. I anticipate nothing, I hope for nothing. I am content to just _be_. [22:25] (@Morgan) very zen [22:26] * Molly smiles [22:27] (Molly) It took a few months to get used to. [22:27] (@Morgan) I'm not sure I could... closest I get to that is standing in the rain [22:28] (@Morgan) I suspect I'd go for a long time between periods of such [22:29] * Molly laughs [22:29] (Molly) We have one or two rainy days a year [22:30] * Molly looks at him speculatively [22:31] (Molly) Are _you_ happy? [22:32] (@Morgan) that depends entirely where my head is at the time of asking [22:32] (Molly) In this moment. Here, in my house, my company? [22:32] * @Morgan nods [22:32] (@Morgan) I'd say so [22:33] (Molly) Are you expected to return to the Coral soon? [22:33] * @Morgan shrugs [22:33] (@Morgan) who knows [22:34] * Molly laughs [22:34] (Molly) Some marriages are like that in Theah-main too then [22:35] (@Morgan) apparently so [22:35] * @Morgan sips his drink [22:36] (Molly) **it isn't a taste he's familiar with, a sweet fruit with a slight tang. Nothing untoward happens. [22:36] * Molly smiles [22:39] (Molly) In Avalon, I would tell you it was Passionfruit, a local aphrodisiac. You'd wonder if I was trying to seduce you to stray from your wife, and I'd wonder if you'd made the false assumption. The air would fill with tension til one of us did something to break it. *she pauses, taking a drink* here, it is just a drink made with our most common fruit. [22:40] (@Morgan) its interesting, I'll give it that [22:41] * Molly smiles [22:42] (Molly) If you don't like it, I could get you coffee, or brandy? **the liquid in the glass changes colour and consistency as she makes suggestions. She looks surprised and confused* [22:44] (Molly) It can't be magic... [22:45] (@Morgan) could be a dream.... [22:45] * Molly looks thoughtful [22:46] (Molly) I think it might be. *she looks around* [22:46] * @Morgan nods [22:46] (@Morgan) I suspect so [22:46] * Molly looks surprised at his appearance [22:47] (Molly) Interesting... [22:49] * Molly looks down, then laughs, shaking her head. Suddenly she's dressed in a cornflower blue day dress she's had for years, the nearly nakedness covered to an "appropriate" level [22:49] (Molly) Better? [22:49] (@Morgan) depends on your point of view, I thinki [22:49] (Molly) Oh? [22:50] (@Morgan) in public, this is definitely better... [22:50] (Molly) I think I'm dreaming, so not public. But are you really here, or just part of my dream? [22:51] (@Morgan) I'm inclined to say really here [22:51] * Molly nods [22:51] (Molly) Like on the ugly version of the Rose? [22:51] * @Morgan nods [22:52] * Molly nods [22:52] (Molly) Can you change things in your dreams? [22:52] (@Morgan) I dont dream much, I cant say I've ever tried [22:53] (Molly) You just... Will it to happen, I think [22:54] * @Morgan nods [22:54] (@Morgan) sounds reasonable [22:54] (Molly) Why dont you try, liebling? [22:54] (@Morgan) because its not my dream [22:55] (Molly) I give you permission. Though this has been a rather interesting dream... [22:55] * @Morgan nods [22:55] * Molly smiles [22:55] (@Morgan) it has [22:56] (Molly) I have often wondered what my life would have been like in Capperlucia [22:56] (@Morgan) like this, I suppose [22:57] * Molly changes the room, til it fades and they're sat on the hillside over looking lady Catherines [22:58] (Molly) Assuming that my dream is anything like reality, of course [22:58] * @Morgan shrugs [22:58] (@Morgan) who knows [22:58] (Molly) Do you come into my dreams often? [22:59] * @Morgan shakes his head [22:59] (@Morgan) this is the second time... and I cant say I planned to [22:59] * Molly smiles [23:01] (Molly) I dont mind, I just wondered if we ever have a happily ever after in my dreams [23:01] (@Morgan) not so far, no [23:01] * Molly nods [23:02] (Molly) I suspected not [23:02] (@Morgan) oh? [23:02] (Molly) I can't recall any. Usually if I dream of you, I have lost you or cannot find you [23:06] * @Morgan nods [23:07] * Molly smiles [23:07] (@Morgan) I do wonder if these dreams I keep intruding upon are what you think may have come to pass if things had happened differently [23:08] (Molly) Possibly. I'll bear that in mind. I think you'd best wake up if you're relieving Walder. [23:08] * @Morgan nods [23:08] (@Morgan) good idea [23:09] (Molly) Try counting down from ten, it always works for me [23:09] * @Morgan does so [23:10] (Molly) **he wakes up**
