[22:11] (Molly) Having retired with Kinner in tow while the men drank their port, Molly is already upstairs when he walks through the hall to their room. On reflection, it's quite a nice house, especially compared to the parts of Innesbruck they've seen so fat [22:14] (Molly) ((done)) [22:15] * @Morgan lets himself into the room quietly [22:18] * Molly is still awake though wearing a sheer nightgown, reading a book whilst sipping what appears to be champagne [22:21] (@Morgan) Anything good? [22:22] * Molly looks up. Though she smiles, there's something about her expression that's a little wary [22:23] (Molly) I -ought- to say a shockingly lurid Vodacce romance... [22:23] (@Morgan) but... [22:24] * Molly shows him the cover of "A military history of Eisen" [22:25] (@Morgan) Why would you want to read that? [22:26] * Molly smiles [22:26] (Molly) Eisen interests me. [22:28] (@Morgan) military history is fairly simple... we learned to fight... we taught others to fight... we fought ourselves... proceed to step two [22:29] * Molly laughs softly [22:29] (Molly) I wonder what step two will be [22:29] (@Morgan) taught others to fight... [22:30] (@Morgan) its well known that the best training on Theah is from the Eisen [22:30] * Molly nods [22:31] (Molly) This is an interesting book though. Fourteen hundred years ago, the armies of Numa tried to invade and were beaten back by 'Eisen Barbarians' [22:33] * @Morgan nods, rubbing his nose [22:33] (@Morgan) it was just after lunch, we weren't at our best [22:39] * Molly giggles, closing the book [22:40] (Molly) I think I'll take it with me. It is only fitting that I receive an Eisen education [22:40] * @Morgan nods [22:43] * Molly gets up, pouring him some champagne and taking it to him. She doesn't look up enough to make eye contact, demeanour submissive [22:44] (Molly) Champagne? [22:44] * @Morgan takes it [22:45] (@Morgan) thank you blossom [22:45] * Molly looks up a little anxiously [22:45] (Molly) Are you angry with me? [22:46] (@Morgan) No blossom, why would I be? [22:48] (Molly) Because I put you in an awkward position at dinner [22:48] * @Morgan shrugs [22:48] (@Morgan) it happens [22:49] * Molly shakes her head [22:49] (Molly) I should have been more careful [22:49] (@Morgan) I'd be interested to know what had you distracted [22:50] * Molly smiles [22:51] (Molly) Nothing like you would probably imagine I was distracted by [22:51] (@Morgan) no? [22:51] (Molly) I was thinking about Innesbruck and the future [22:51] (@Morgan) oh? [22:51] * Molly watches him [22:52] (Molly) Did you wish to sit by the fire, or talk in bed? [22:52] (@Morgan) By the fire would be nice I think [22:54] * Molly goes to sit in a chair in front of the flames. Swirling in the glass as her hand moves, the bubbly liquid catches the flickering light glowing orange and yellow in turn. She tucks her bare feet beneath her [22:58] (Molly) Better? [22:59] * @Morgan sips the champagne [22:59] (@Morgan) thats not bad [23:04] (Molly) Kinner found it in the wine cellar [23:07] (@Morgan) It doesn't have the flavour of, say, port, but its not too bad at all [23:07] * Molly nods [23:07] (Molly) It isn't a patch on cherry brandy though [23:07] * @Morgan shrugs [23:09] (Molly) Innesbruck... I was thinking about the funding mostly [23:09] (@Morgan) oh yes? [23:10] * Molly sips her drink [23:11] (Molly) How we raise the money is complicated [23:12] (@Morgan) is it? [23:15] * Molly nods solemnly [23:15] (Molly) If it were all Varicks, it would be simpler [23:16] (@Morgan) aye, probably [23:17] (Molly) In good conscience, could you use funds from Koln to repair Innesbruck, knowing what you know? [23:18] (@Morgan) to an extent, yes [23:18] * Molly looks intrigued [23:18] (Molly) How so? [23:19] (@Morgan) I'm entitled to an income for my work as steward.... That could be put into Innesbruck [23:19] * Molly nods [23:20] (Molly) Indeed. But after that? The profits and taxes from here? [23:21] (@Morgan) I cant help but think that the previous steward got Innesbruck into that mess, so is it not fair that the current one helps get it out of it? [23:22] * Molly nods taking this on board [23:23] (Molly) I hadn't thought of that. If Koln benefited from her taking so much from Innesbruck, should things be rebalanced? [23:23] (@Morgan) thats what I was thinking [23:24] * Molly smiles [23:24] (Molly) Interesting [23:25] * Molly smirks [23:25] (Molly) Starting with that wonderous painting! [23:25] * @Morgan smiles [23:25] (@Morgan) why not [23:26] * Molly suddenly laughs [23:27] (Molly) There is another painting in there that could attract a great deal at auction! [23:28] (@Morgan) well... now there's an idea [23:28] * Molly grins [23:29] (Molly) I rather like the idea of selling it to her in order for her to make restitution for the amount she's taken [23:30] (@Morgan) thats really quite an enjoyable idea [23:30] * Molly smiles with mock-innocence [23:31] (Molly) Of course, if she doesn't want it, we can display it and sell it to the highest bidder to recoup Innesbruck's loss instead [23:32] (@Morgan) D'you know, I was thinking much the same [23:33] (Molly) The _Avalon_ thing to do would be discretely wrap it and have it delivered on to her by a trusted servant [23:33] (@Morgan) if she pays enough, sure... [23:37] (Molly) The Vodacce thing to do would be host a prestigious exhibition where it is revealed as the centrepiece halfway through the evening... Especially if she could be tricked into unveiling it personally [23:38] * @Morgan chuckles [23:38] (@Morgan) oh dear... can you iamgine her reaction? [23:38] * Molly grins [23:38] (Molly) I could, but it would be very unkind of me [23:39] * @Morgan chuckles [23:39] (@Morgan) its very... very tempting [23:40] (Molly) Humiliating a rival is en vogue in Numa this year according to Jarvie [23:41] (@Morgan) rival? [23:41] * @Morgan raises an eyebrow [23:41] * Molly drinks from the tall glass [23:42] (Molly) I merely attended the game, Alarice drew up the rules [23:43] (@Morgan) sounds like something Claudia would say [23:46] (Molly) Her statement that I could not have you both, and her attempts at pushing you and I apart clarified that she thought me so [23:46] * @Morgan nods [23:46] (@Morgan) fair enough [23:46] * Molly doesn't look upset about Alarice's dislike of her [23:47] (Molly) She isn't a rival to me, she has nothing I want [23:50] * Molly shoots him a playful glance, twirling a crimson curl around her finger [23:50] (Molly) Though I wouldn't mind being blonde [23:51] (@Morgan) blonde? Why? [23:51] * Molly smiles briefly [23:51] (Molly) I wouldn't stand out so much here [23:52] (@Morgan) And that'd be a good thing? [23:53] (Molly) I am not very at ease being stared at [23:53] * @Morgan nods slight;y [23:53] (@Morgan) sorry [23:54] * Molly looks confused [23:54] (Molly) Why are you sorry, liebling' [23:54] (Molly) ? [23:54] (@Morgan) for staring... [23:55] * Molly giggles, blushing [23:55] (Molly) I never see you staring [23:55] (@Morgan) You never _catch_ me staring... [23:56] * Molly grins [23:56] (Molly) I would never be upset by you staring [23:57] (@Morgan) but you just said... [23:58] (Molly) It isn't the same. I'm not at ease with people touching me a great deal, yet I constantly yearn for you to do so. It is different. [23:59] * @Morgan smiles [23:59] (@Morgan) I know [23:59] * Molly giggles [23:59] (Molly) I'm so obviously smitten? [00:00] (@Morgan) I'm afraid so [00:00] * Molly sighs [00:01] (Molly) Oh dear, I'd best make an effort to keep my true feelings hidden! [00:01] * @Morgan chuckles [00:01] (@Morgan) like me, you mean? [00:02] (Molly) I couldn't possibly comment [00:02] * Molly smirks [00:02] * @Morgan laughs [00:03] (Molly) But yes, I might envy her hair a little. And being Eisen. [00:04] (@Morgan) pfff, it has its curses [00:05] (Molly) Does it? [00:06] (@Morgan) Stupendously superstitious, always seemingly itching for a fight, no sense of humour... [00:06] (Molly) I'll argue two of those [00:06] * Molly smiles [00:07] * @Morgan shakes his head [00:07] (@Morgan) the humour comes from my mother... [00:07] * Molly shakes her head [00:08] (Molly) I disagree. Your father has his moments, and Grendlik ((holzheim)) is hilarious! [00:09] (Molly) Lieutenant Kurt made me laugh often also. [00:09] (@Morgan) My father is a rare case... and Holzheim isn't funny, he's just peculier [00:09] (@Morgan) ah, well... Lieutenants... [00:09] (Molly) And HeinzHarold is a wonderfully funny man [00:10] * @Morgan mutters [00:10] (@Morgan) I taught him that [00:10] (Molly) The 'Lord high commander' comments? [00:10] * Molly smiles [00:11] (@Morgan) He just _thinks_ thats funny [00:11] * Molly giggles [00:11] (Molly) I'm afraid I agree with him [00:11] * @Morgan sips the champagne [00:12] (@Morgan) I thought you were simply encouraging him [00:13] (Molly) It doesn't do to take oneself too seriously all the time [00:13] * Molly smiles [00:13] * @Morgan shrugs [00:13] (@Morgan) I dont take myself seriously... others are meant to do that for me [00:14] (Molly) If it helps, I do take you seriously [00:14] (@Morgan) seriously amusing? [00:15] * Molly manages not to smirk [00:15] (Molly) That wasn't quite what I meant [00:17] (Molly) I think Inga has made a good choice though [00:17] * @Morgan nods [00:17] (@Morgan) he's a good man [00:17] * Molly grins playfully [00:18] (Molly) Why, if I didnt have one Eisen man , albeit quietly, smitten, I might have been tempted by him myself [00:19] (@Morgan) I daresay he'd actually have been a good choice [00:20] (Molly) Oh? Not Grendlik or Kurt then? *she giggles, watching his reaction* [00:21] (@Morgan) No... definitely not [00:21] * @Morgan looks serious [00:22] * Molly nods [00:25] (Molly) As for the other thing you're wrong about... You do not seem to always be itching for a fight [00:25] (@Morgan) have you listened to me talking to pretty much anyone? [00:26] (Molly) I listen to you talking to me [00:26] * Molly smiles though it doesn't meet her eyes [00:26] * @Morgan looks concerned [00:27] (Molly) And Theus knows I've given you much opportunity today [00:33] (@Morgan) Aye... you have. [00:34] * Molly nods sadly [00:34] (Molly) I apologise whole-heartedly [00:34] (@Morgan) I dont _want_ an apology... I want an explanation [00:35] * Molly studies her glass [00:35] (Molly) I'm not _entirely_ sure [00:36] (@Morgan) but... [00:39] (Molly) It wasn't something I had much control over. I just kept saying and doing things I knew I shouldnt [00:41] (@Morgan) You think it was tied in with your... shall we say, shineyness [00:41] * Molly looks thoughtful [00:42] (Molly) Probably. I'm confused as to what stopped it [00:42] (@Morgan) Well... it appeared to stop when we were... intimate [00:44] * Molly nods slowly [00:44] (Molly) I see [00:44] * Molly smiles a little [00:45] (Molly) That would make sense [00:46] * @Morgan nods [00:47] (Molly) Perhaps I was seeking to provoke you... [00:47] (@Morgan) why? [00:48] (Molly) Not intentionally. Subconsciously. [00:48] * Molly looks to be thinking this through [00:50] (Molly) If our intimacy ended the effect, the shineyness if you prefer, then perhaps causing tension might have been a way of encouraging that to occur [00:50] * @Morgan nods slowly [00:50] (@Morgan) wrong sort of tension, though [00:52] (Molly) Oh? I thought that disagreeing was the sort of tension that would lead a man to try and kiss a woman? [00:52] (@Morgan) I woudln't think so [00:53] (Molly) You seemed concerned when it was Kai and I at loggerheads? [00:53] (@Morgan) Thats because Kai is... untrustworthy [00:53] * Molly nods a moment [00:54] (Molly) And jealousy is also an ineffective instigator? [00:55] * @Morgan nods [00:55] (@Morgan) that too [00:55] (Molly) Angry rather than amorous? *she giggles* [00:56] (@Morgan) thats it, exactly [00:56] * Molly nods. She raises an eyebrow lazily whilst sipping the champagne [00:57] (Molly) What sort of tension _is_ required? [00:57] * @Morgan shrugs [00:57] (@Morgan) I dont know [00:58] * Molly watches him a moment before looking back to the fire [00:58] (Molly) You would not prefer me blonde then, liebes herz? [00:59] (@Morgan) I rather like you as you are [01:00] * Molly smiles [01:00] (Molly) There's is nothing you would change? [01:01] * @Morgan shakes his head [01:01] (@Morgan) you're perfect as you are [01:01] * Molly blushes [01:02] (Molly) I am honoured, but far from it [01:04] * Molly looks him over playfully [01:04] (Molly) I'd make a few minor, temporary changes... [01:05] (@Morgan) oh yes? [01:05] * Molly nods [01:06] (Molly) Firstly, your shirt and trousers would be hung over the chair instead [01:06] * @Morgan laughs [01:08] (Molly) Secondly, you'd be sweeping me off to bed to show me just how perfect you find every inch of me [01:09] * @Morgan nods [01:09] (@Morgan) I see... [01:10] * Molly stands, putting down her glass. Boldly she walks to him and taking his hands pulls him to standing. She smiles, eyes full of promise and desire as she speaks [01:11] (Molly) Not yet... But you will... [01:11] * @Morgan chuckles [01:11] (Molly) **fade to black** [19:49] (Molly) **he falls asleep with ease as they lay together peacefully afterwards. In all of his dreams, he recognises the link Natasha spoke of, sometimes the tree, but often inanimate objects that have significance between them [19:56] (Molly) **touching the broach she had made for him before they went to Carleon, he begins to hear the thoughts in her mind. Asleep, she's thinking about how to maintain control, how to prevent disaster. [19:56] * @Morgan becomes confused [19:59] (Molly) His own dream starts to shimmer as if its a thin painted silk curtain over another picture [20:01] * @Morgan waits to see what happens [20:02] (Molly) ** the words he hears in her mind become not just syllables but sensations as he feels the breeze, a salty tang, the gentle roll of the ground, contrasting with the coachyard at the torrington estate he is standing on [20:05] * @Morgan shakes his head slightly, looking around [20:06] (Molly) **with a dizzying lurch, he finds himself stood on board the Rose, at the rear, watching disturbingly clear water as the ship churns it in her wake [20:07] * @Morgan grunts slightly, taking in his new surroundings [20:08] (Molly) **The ship looks older, clean and well-maintained, yet less pristine than she was when he saw her. From his vantage point, he sees no crew [20:09] * @Morgan walks forward [20:10] (Molly) **he hears a familiar voice, though like the ship it is somehow older, a little world-weary [20:12] (Molly) All of you, get back to work! We've all heard the legends. Either you block your ears and work, or I'll throw each of you overboard to swim to them myself! [20:13] * @Morgan heads toward the voice [20:17] * Molly stands on the maindeck, hands on hips. Her hair is shorter than he's ever seen it, barely gracing her shoulders. Wearing leather trousers as well as a man's shirt, leather waistcoat and a tricorn hat, the level to which she is armed isn't out of place. He can feel the anger from her, almost as if it were heat. The crew stand transfixed watching something in the distance [20:18] * @Morgan follows their gaze [20:21] (Molly) ** on a rocky outcropping, five sirens sit singing, though he hears no song. They're all beautiful, blonde, curvy, very Eisen looking. Their mouths open, yet the only sound he hears is the resounding crack of a palm against a cheek [20:23] * @Morgan looks back at the crew [20:23] * Molly stands in front of one of the men, furious as she subtly shakes off the sting in her hand. The reddening handprint mars the face of a man who looks like a younger version of her father but somewhat taller [20:24] (Molly) Snap out of it, for Theus sake! They're just bloody women, you've all seen plenty of 'em! [20:25] * @Morgan approaches them slowly [20:27] * Molly shakes her head with frustration before ripping a large swathe of the shirt off her chest, leaving only the rough waistcoat to protect her assets. She hacks the fabric into smaller pieces with a knife. She doesn't notice him approach [20:28] (Molly) Must I do every fucking task myself? **it dawns on him that she's speaking Avalon with a hint of a montaigne accent [20:29] * @Morgan mutters [20:29] (@Morgan) what the hell is going on... [20:31] * Molly whips around, fire blazing in her eyes. She looks older up close, at least ten or maybe even fifteen years older. She's still beautiful in a jaded sort of way, a woman of experience. [20:32] (Molly) **by the time he's taken this in, her stance has changed, knife pointed at his throat [20:32] (Molly) Who are you and why are you on my ship? [20:32] * @Morgan smiles slightly [20:33] (@Morgan) I think, madam, the more pertinent point would be that _those_ *he hooks a thumb towards the sirens* aren't interesting me... [20:34] (Molly) **the crew are slowly going back to their tasks, though somewhat glassy eyed and puppet-like. She battles between watching the intruder, and watching the controlled crew steering the ship towards the rocks. She glares at him. [20:36] (Molly) A deal then. Help me block the ears of these suggestible idiots and I'll wait until you've provided me an explanation before cutting your throat and throwing you to the fish. [20:36] * @Morgan laughs hard [20:36] (@Morgan) sounds like a deal [20:37] * Molly spits in her hand then offers it to shake [20:37] * @Morgan does the same [20:38] * Molly hands him a fist full of cut up shirt then strides off, full of arrogant confidence [20:38] * @Morgan sets about blocking the crews ears [20:40] * Molly does likewise. It immediately prevents them being affected. He sees her communicate with each man in a complicated sign language, many gestures of which are the same he and HH use. [20:41] (Molly) **the ship still moves closer to the Eisen sirens [20:41] * Molly disappears below deck a moment [20:43] * @Morgan finishes up before making himself unobtrusive [20:45] * Molly returns a few moments later with a rather obscenely large double-barreled ussuran style rifle. She goes to the port side, now just twelve feet from the singers, and methodically loads the monstrous weapon [20:46] * @Morgan wanders over [20:46] (@Morgan) you're seriously going to try to kill them? [20:47] * Molly looks at him with a heavy dose of scorn. There is no empathy there in those familiarish eyes. [20:47] (Molly) Not try, just kill. [20:47] (@Morgan) because... [20:48] * Molly laughs [20:48] (Molly) As if I need to justify myself to you, or anyone! [20:48] * Molly takes aim [20:48] * @Morgan pushes the barrel sideways [20:49] (@Morgan) I wasn't asking for justification... I was asking for a reason... [20:51] * Molly nearly goes off balance but catches herself. She puts down the gun before taking a swing for him. He feels her anger, sheer rage. [20:52] * @Morgan rocks backwards onto his heels, just out of range of the swing, resuming his position once its passed [20:53] (Molly) Stay out of my way! [20:53] (@Morgan) I just did... now explain [20:53] * Molly picks the rifle up again, aiming once more [20:54] (Molly) This is my ship, I owe you no explanation! [20:54] (@Morgan) Molly, dont make me make you look a fool in front of your crew [20:55] * Molly spins round, levelling the gun at him [20:56] (Molly) Don't you dare call me that! I don't know who the devil you are, but I haven't used that name for nearly fifteen years! *she looks furious* [20:57] * @Morgan sighs [20:58] (@Morgan) I dont think I'd care to hear an explanation from someone so clearly detached from rational thought... [21:01] * Molly nods briefly as if that settles the matter, then resumes her aim before quickly firing towards the sirens. The first gets hit, slowly changing shape, growing, developing angular legs. Eight of them. Taller. At least seven feet to the first knee. A figure Morgan knows from his own nightmares. [21:02] * @Morgan mutters [21:02] (@Morgan) ah damn [21:03] * Molly simply shoots again, looking unafraid. She crouches a little to angle the shot into the soft underbelly of the hideous spider [21:05] * @Morgan talks slowly [21:05] (@Morgan) Fifteen years, huh... then what, took Siobahn up on her offer to sail? [21:06] (Molly) **it explodes in to tiny black fragments that burn and sizzle in the air [21:06] * Molly looks at him, eyes cool. [21:08] (Molly) Either you wish to make chitchat with me whilst we are paralysed, bound up then eaten alive, or you let me do my job and we talk if we survive. [21:08] (@Morgan) as I recall, you could multitask, but as you wish... [21:11] * Molly frowns deeply as she rapidly dispatches all the siren spiders. Striding to a crew member, she instructs him to take out the plugs and inform the others to do likewise. Then she stands in front of Morgan, an air of challenge about her [21:11] (Molly) You want to talk here, or below deck? [21:11] (@Morgan) below deck I think [21:13] * Molly leads the way down below, through what was once a ballroom but now is packed to the rafters with weapons, jewels and gold. [21:14] * @Morgan follows along [21:17] * Molly goes into her office. All the familiar fittings and furniture are gone. It is no longer an opulent study but a war room, maps with small ornamental ships strategically place . Nothing feminine at all. She opens a bottle of montaigne brandy, drinking deeply before offering it to him [21:17] * @Morgan shakes his head [21:17] * Molly shrugs. She directs him to a chair [21:18] * @Morgan remains standing [21:18] * Molly does likewise [21:19] (Molly) Who are you, how did you sneak aboard my ship? [21:20] (@Morgan) I was elsewhere, then poof, I was here... why've you stopped using your name? [21:20] * Molly watches him distrustfully, an expression he's never been on the receiving end of from her before. At his question, she tenses a little [21:21] (Molly) That girl is gone. [21:21] (@Morgan) typically terse montaigne reply... where'd she go? [21:21] * Molly wrinkles her nose [21:22] (Molly) She died, along with her hopes and dreams. Now my turn. Who are you? [21:23] (@Morgan) I dont much count cryptic answers unless its me giving them [21:24] * Molly stares at him with grim determination [21:24] (Molly) That is your loss. Who are you? [21:24] * @Morgan shrugs [21:25] (@Morgan) answer for an answer... [21:25] * Molly squares her shoulders. The room feels thick with tension [21:27] (Molly) I owe you no answers. You came aboard my ship without my leave... *she runs her eyes over the length and breadth of him boldly, unashamedly* you look like a man who should know better than that [21:27] * @Morgan shrugs [21:28] * Molly watches him a long moment [21:30] (Molly) Sweet and innocent Molly Forrester got left behind when I finally saw sense. I no longer use that name because it is a lifetime ago. Satisfied? [21:30] (@Morgan) Not really, no... [21:32] * Molly rolls her eyes. She perches on the edge of the desk, a familiar stance. There is a clanging of weapons [21:32] (Molly) I'll humour you. After all, I may yet kill you. What do you want? [21:33] (@Morgan) 'saw sense'... sense in what? [21:33] * Molly 's jaw tenses, chin coming up [21:34] (Molly) Love and it's futility [21:35] (@Morgan) things didn't go your way so you sailed off with Captain Tsaylur I take it? [21:38] * Molly shrugs almost nonchalantly, but there is a brief flicker of pain there fleetingly [21:39] (Molly) I did what I had to, yes. [21:39] * @Morgan nods [21:39] (@Morgan) sorry it went that way [21:40] * Molly shrugs once more, drinking the brandy to cover the pain once more. He hears 'i don't want to remember' [21:40] (Molly) It is what it is. Now, how do you know those names? [21:41] (@Morgan) magic? [21:41] * Molly snorts [21:41] (Molly) Magic is long gone [21:42] (@Morgan) now maybe... [21:43] * Molly mutters quietly [21:44] (Molly) October 1670... La Acte Final [21:44] (Molly) ((it's July 6th 1670)) [21:44] (@Morgan) doesn't ring any bells... [21:45] * Molly shrugs again [21:47] (Molly) You claim you used magic to know the names? Only the Vodacce could do such. *again she looks at him with a bold gaze, it makes him feel almost undressed.* you're definitely not Vodacce. [21:48] (@Morgan) No no no, I didn't claim _I_ used the magic... [21:48] (Molly) Tell me what you know. [21:48] * Molly watches him [21:49] (Molly) Then I'll decide whether to have you keel-hauled or hung... *she looks him over once more with a slight shrug* [21:50] * @Morgan shrugs slightly, wondering if there's a way to influence all of this [21:56] (@Morgan) what is it you dont want to rmemember? [21:56] * Molly tries to play nonchalant but her wariness shows through [21:57] (Molly) Who wants to remember their past? Nothing but misery lies there [21:59] (@Morgan) the past is what shapes us as we progress through life... [22:00] (Molly) **he hears in her thoughts Siobahns voice "Its over, my dear. You must face the facts and move on, no?" [22:01] * @Morgan sighs [22:01] (@Morgan) this isn't real, you know [22:02] (Molly) The past is a withered limb, best severed before it's poisons kill the heart. *she laughs darkly* it was too late to save mine. He took my heart and never returned with it. [22:02] * Molly looks distracted, and surprisingly pinches her lower lip in her normal manner [22:05] (Molly) Sorry, what did you say? *very slowly, her demeanour is becoming less harsh, and the years start to reverse* [22:06] (@Morgan) to whom do you refer? [22:07] * Molly is so distracted she doesn't make any effort to look at him [22:08] (Molly) A man I once knew *she sighs* a man I once _loved_ [22:08] (@Morgan) who? [22:09] (Molly) *a tear rolls down her cheek* Morgan, the only man I was born to love. [22:10] (@Morgan) and he was, what, my height? [22:10] * Molly frowns slightly [22:10] (Molly) I don't want to remember [22:11] (@Morgan) my sort of build... god awful temper when it came to nobility? [22:11] * Molly smiles in spite of herself [22:13] (Molly) Yes. *she frowns* but he left, and never came back for me. For a year I looked for him before Siobahn reminded me that he'd never be found if he didn't want to be. [22:14] (@Morgan) You took advice from a Montaigne courtesan? [22:15] (Molly) She was my friend. [22:16] (@Morgan) likewise, but she had some strange ideas [22:18] (Molly) She helped me run the Rose, showed me the world, showed me the ways of the world. Got me my first privateers license, my first 'good friend'. [22:18] (@Morgan) what about Eiblinn? [22:19] (Molly) What about her? *she speaks slowly, so distracted* [22:22] (@Morgan) she was your friend... [22:23] (Molly) She was. She didn't take it well that I'd been head over heels for _her_ man. In the end, he left us both. [22:24] (@Morgan) Take a good look at me... [22:25] * Molly yawns a little. She studies him, smiling slightly [22:25] (Molly) You do look a bit like him. You'd better not be his evil brother. [22:26] (@Morgan) No, I'm not Edward... [22:26] (Molly) Edward... That was the bastard's name. [22:27] (@Morgan) he wasn't a bastard, they were married when he was born [22:27] (Molly) He was a bastard in deed if not chronology. He was the first man I ever killed. [22:28] * @Morgan shakes his head [22:28] (@Morgan) Look at me properly.... [22:29] * Molly does. She looks pained, looking away [22:29] (Molly) Am I dead? Or is this some cruel trick? [22:30] (@Morgan) you're dreaming blossom [22:30] * Molly blinks slowly. [22:31] (Molly) Blossom... I haven't heard that in a long time [22:31] (@Morgan) since I last said it? [22:31] * Molly starts to look confused [22:32] (Molly) Here, in this room, the morning you left me forever. [22:32] (@Morgan) as I said... you're dreaming... [22:33] * Molly looks at him, slowly opening and closing her eyes [22:33] (Molly) I'm dreaming? [22:33] * @Morgan nods [22:33] (@Morgan) aye [22:34] * Molly looks around, taking in the room with a groan [22:35] (Molly) Oh no! What have they done to my study?! [22:35] * Molly looks as young as when she went to sleep [22:36] (@Morgan) Nothing blossom, you've not done it [22:36] (Molly) Thank goodness! It's awful [22:36] * @Morgan nods [22:37] (@Morgan) its not terribly nice [22:37] * Molly looks at the map with the ship figures, idly moving them around [22:37] (Molly) This gives me an idea for a game though [22:37] (@Morgan) oh? [22:38] * Molly looks up at him [22:38] (Molly) If I'm dreaming, am I dreaming you? [22:38] (@Morgan) No, you're not [22:39] * Molly briefly looks around, clapping her hands. The decor returns to its original style [22:40] (Molly) How are you in my dreams? *she giggles* I mean how are you actually in my dream, not just something I dream up? [22:41] (@Morgan) the 'link' I told you about... [22:42] * Molly starts wandering around, then looks down. With a brief wave of her hand, a full length mirror appears [22:42] (Molly) And it can be used to enter my dreams? [22:42] (@Morgan) apparnetly so... [22:42] * Molly looks shocked [22:43] (Molly) What on Theah am I wearing?! [22:44] (@Morgan) I'm not entirely sure [22:45] * Molly goes to clap her hands, pausing to look at him [22:45] (Molly) Any requests? [22:45] (@Morgan) your choice blossom [22:46] * Molly claps and is wearing the red dress he bought her with the sparkles [22:47] (Molly) I like to know I'm dreaming. Once you know it is a dream, it can be controlled [22:47] (@Morgan) not something I've ever had success with, to be honest [22:48] * Molly nods thoughtfully [22:48] (Molly) Without control, my dreams are odd. I think it's from an over-active imagination [22:49] * @Morgan nods [22:49] (@Morgan) possibly, aye [22:49] (Molly) Have you been here long? [22:49] (@Morgan) a little while [22:50] (Molly) What was I dreaming? [22:50] (@Morgan) youw ere attacking sirens... that turned into massive spiders... [22:50] * Molly nods [22:51] (Molly) Unsurprising given that we were discussing sirens whilst the effect was in place. Spiders is new though. [22:51] * @Morgan nods [22:52] (@Morgan) big spiders.... schattenman sort of size [22:52] * Molly smiles slightly [22:52] (Molly) Perhaps they were from your mind? [22:52] (@Morgan) maybe [22:53] (Molly) ** the clock strikes 4:17am** [22:53] * Molly looks at it [22:54] (Molly) If you wake up now, you could be out for dawn [22:54] * @Morgan nods [22:54] (@Morgan) I think I might do that... its been a while [22:55] * Molly smiles gently [22:55] (Molly) It is important to you [22:55] * @Morgan nods [22:56] (Molly) Count backwards from five and you'll wake up [22:56] * @Morgan does so [22:59] (Molly) **in the blink of an eye, the dream is gone and he's awake in the bed in Koln, his wife curled up beside him, a gentle smile as she sleeps. She seems somehow younger, more innocent, highlighted by the jaded, life-weary woman in her dream [23:41] ** You are now disconnected ------------------------------ Logging started for Blitzed:#7thseaic on Thursday, September 19, 2013 9:01:03 PM British Summer Time ------------------------------ [21:01] ** You have joined #7thseaic [21:01] ** penguin.uk.eu.blitzed.org sets mode(s) +nt [21:01] ** ChanServ sets mode(s) -o Molly [21:03] * Molly waits patiently, and appropriately follows the proceed according to the Objectionist church. The priest holds the chalice of consecrated wine to his lips, the symbol and spirit of the prophets blood [21:12] * @Morgan sips it [21:13] (Molly) **the priest then hands him a thin wheat wafer [21:13] * @Morgan eats it [21:15] (Molly) **he waits for Morgan to stand and return to his seat before repeating this for the next person [21:16] * @Morgan does so [21:16] * Molly watches her husband with a hint of concern whilst whispering [21:16] (Molly) Are you alright, liebling? [21:17] * @Morgan nods [21:17] (@Morgan) fine blossom [21:19] * Molly smiles. Soon the line is finished, and the priest addresses the parisheners [21:21] (Molly) P: And now we'll take a minute for our private thanks and prayers with almighty Theus. [21:21] * Molly , like the others, closes her eyes with her head bowed. [21:22] * @Morgan bows his head [21:23] * Molly 's thoughts become quietly audible in his mind [21:29] (Molly) I hope that my magic isn't something you abhor, something I will go to hell for using. Please guide me to use it wisely and not selfishly. [21:33] * @Morgan smiles briefly, keeping quiet [21:36] (Molly) P: **he brings the moment to a close with an 'amen' which is repeated throughout the church. [21:40] (Molly) **he then dismisses them and the bells ring. People quickly file out into the square where clouds have gathered overhead in their absence. There is quite a lot of staring and whispering. He sees Bauer and Ghalen as they get to the exit [21:41] * @Morgan peers at the sky [21:42] (@Morgan) that doesn't look friendly [21:44] (Molly) B: not at all, my Lord. We'll be in the town hall though *Ghalen smiles at Molly, though looks a little flustered. She doesn't even notice, also looking up with the yellow-tinged clouds with a frown* [21:45] * @Morgan nods [21:51] (Molly) **the Vaticine church also files out, and soon the two groups become one again. A woman walks over to Bauer, mid-twenties perhaps, unsurprisingly blonde. She is neither pretty nor plain. Beside her is a little girl, around three. With hair bordering on brown, she resembles Bauer quite strongly. As they get close, she looks surprised and points to Molly's hair. [21:51] (Molly) Mummy I want hair like that! [21:54] (Molly) *bauer and his wife both look horrified at the girl's lack of decorum. Her mother tries to shush her. Bauer starts to apologise to Morgan, not noticing Molly crouch down to the child's level* [21:55] * @Morgan waves the apology away [21:55] (Molly) B: I'm so sorry, my Lord, she really doesn't understand when to speak and when not to [21:58] * Molly smiles at the young girl who clearly realises her error* I'd quite like hair like yours, I think its very pretty **the girl smiles a little* what's your name, little one? **she continues to chat with her, even when a solemn looking girl of twelve or so approaches Bauer* [21:59] (Molly) SLG: the hall is open, father [22:00] (Molly) B: **he looks to Morgan as the first of the raindrops fall onto the cobbles between them* Ready, my Lord? [22:00] * @Morgan nods [22:02] (Molly) B*he leads everyone into the hall which is simple but clean. After five minutes everyone is sheltered inside from the driving rain that lashes the town. People watch him, some with interest, some slightly warily [22:03] (Molly) ((as in watch Morgan)) [22:04] * @Morgan watches the people [22:07] (Molly) B: **he claps his hands to get attention** as you know, there has been a change in Steward, and Veisgraf Sudlachenburg has come to meet you. I am sure you'll give him a friendly welcome. *they still look a bit unsure but most smile politely. Cups of coffee are passed around on trays. Molly brings Morgan one, speaking quietly [22:07] (Molly) He's expecting a speech I think [22:08] (@Morgan) aren't they always [22:12] * Molly smiles, sipping her coffee, whilst everyone looks at him expectantly [22:12] * @Morgan raises his voice [22:13] (@Morgan) Ladies and gentlemen, as has been said, I'm the new steward here... Sadly my time will be divided between here and my other duties, which I'm afraid cannot be avoided [22:16] (Molly) **everyone nods, no-one daring to see any humour when they are sure of him [22:17] (@Morgan) I've no doubt you've heard many rumours of me, some of which might actually be true... but regardless of what you may have heard, I want only fairness and prosperity, and that is what I will be working towards... Does anyone have any questions they'd like to ask? [22:19] (Molly) **everyone shakes their heads** [22:19] (@Morgan) come now, lets not be shy... you must want to know _something_ [22:21] (Molly) *someone from the back shouts "are you really a spy for the Eisenfurst?" and other villagers try to quieten him [22:22] * @Morgan chuckles [22:23] (@Morgan) If everyones working towards the same goals, there'd be no need for spies... but no, I'm not a spy for the Eisenfurst and I was rather surprised by that rumour myself [22:24] (Molly) *there's a little laugh. Someone else asks "where's the Baroness gone?" [22:29] (Molly) *there is a resounding no from the general populace [22:29] (@Morgan) I didn't think so either [22:30] (Molly) "did you really make some nobles build a house by themselves?" [22:31] (@Morgan) to an extent... I persuaded them to do some of the groundwork before the rain set in... I cant say I'd like anyone without the correct experience actually building a house if I wanted it to stay up [22:32] (Molly) **they laugh** [22:33] (Molly) " did you really break your own brother's nose?" [22:33] * @Morgan nods [22:33] (@Morgan) I'm afraid so [22:34] (Molly) **there is a little murmur of wariness [22:35] (Molly) "did you really get to sail on the Purple Rose?" [22:35] * @Morgan nods [22:36] (@Morgan) though the crew at the time wasn't best suited to her... I'll rectify that before long [22:36] (Molly) "didnt she sink?" [22:37] (@Morgan) Oh yes... we had her refloated [22:42] (@Morgan) we couldn't stand to see a ship of legend just sit on the bottom of a harbour... so we've had her mended and are meant to be meeting up with her before too long [22:47] (@Morgan) [10:41pm] **they all nod a little though don't really seem to understand [22:47] (@Morgan) [10:42pm] <@Morgan> we couldn't stand to see a ship of legend just sit on the bottom of a harbour... so we've had her mended and are meant to be meeting up with her before too long [22:48] (MK) **people smile, chatting quietly with those around them about how wise that is. [21:29] (@Morgan) you can of course have a moment, but your grace isn't the correct term for me [21:31] (Molly) V: **he looks a little worried* I'm sorry, your lordship, I never can remember [21:32] (@Morgan) Its no problem... *he looks at him, waiting for a name* [21:38] (Molly) Venn, my lord [21:38] (@Morgan) Venn... whats on your mind? [21:40] (Molly) Well, I just wondered, what with the Baroness not controlling Koln, what's going to happen to Innesbruck? [21:41] (@Morgan) The same thing... I'll be running it [21:42] (Molly) **he nods** that's good, my Lord, has a lot of problems does Innesbruck [21:43] (@Morgan) I noticed a few when I rode through recently... perhaps you can give me a more detailed perspective... [21:44] (Molly) **he looks a little confused* I'm not sure. But I can tell you what I know? [21:46] (@Morgan) that'd be even better... how about we get some coffee and sit down and discuss it [21:47] (Molly) **he looks pleased. He goes to get coffee, then finds them a seat [21:54] * Venn waits til Morgan is seated [21:54] * @Morgan takes a seat [21:54] ** New query from Morgan (Available on submenu 'Windows') [21:57] (Venn) well, my lord, I was born in innesbruck, as were all my family. Lots of them died in the war. But it was after Lord Hans died that things got bad [21:58] * @Morgan nods, sipping the coffee [21:58] (@Morgan) I cant say that surprises me... go on [22:01] (Venn) We've always been bakers, and it's a good trade usually, but taxes were getting higher, as were rents. Once Lord Eldreich died, it got even worse. [22:06] (Venn) There weren't enough people to harvest so crops were lost. Wheat became more expensive, and the overseer was taking so much we didn't have enough money to buy it, so farmers started taking it to Koln, Sudlachenburg and Seeufer to sell instead. It happened to lots of different people in lots of trades. We bartered to start with, but soon everyone couldn't afford to trade their time, having to make things to sell outside of town. Last year it became too much of a struggle so we moved here to start over. [22:07] * @Morgan nods, listening patiently [22:11] (Venn) I still have a sister who lives there. I send her money when I can, but I worry for her. Its rough there. Robbery is common. [22:12] (@Morgan) Well, that'll be something particular I'll be changing [22:13] (Venn) I hope so, my Lord. It's not right to be taxing so much [22:14] (@Morgan) No, I agree... there'll be a great deal of changes before long, Venn, though I'm sure you realise to recover from that sort of state isn't going to be easy [22:15] (Venn) I know, my Lord, but something needs to be done before people starve. [22:17] (@Morgan) Something is being done... I've already begun arrangements to have help to bring in the harvest, and I'm arranging some financial assistance so taxes can be lowered... there are other changes, but I need to keep them to myself for now [22:19] (Venn) **he nods* a bit of advice, my Lord? [22:19] (@Morgan) go on [22:20] (Venn) Sack Pieter, the overseer. He's got a very grand house for a man who arrived in Innesbruck with nothing, if you see what I mean [22:21] (@Morgan) I'll take it under advisement... mark my words, Venn, things in Innesbruck will change [22:21] (Venn) **he nods* thank you, my Lord [22:22] (@Morgan) Would you be tempted to move back if it became more as it was? [22:24] (Venn) Yes my Lord, we've been there for generations [22:25] (@Morgan) What do you do in Koln? [22:45] * Molly arrives back to him not long after Venn leaves. The rain seems to have stopped, and people are slowly leaving. She looks a little flushed but happy [22:45] (@Morgan) I think you made a friend there, blossom [22:46] * Molly smiles [22:47] (Molly) Strong-willed brutes and small children seem drawn to me [22:48] * @Morgan nods [22:48] (Molly) Are you ready to leave? [22:48] * @Morgan nods [22:48] (@Morgan) I think so [22:49] (Molly) **they get to the door before Bauer stops them [22:50] (Molly) B: I hope you don't mind my Lord, but I usually have lunch with my family on a Sunday [22:50] (@Morgan) Of course, Bauer, as you should [22:51] (Molly) B: I'll be back later this afternoon to go through the books with you [22:52] * @Morgan nods [22:52] (@Morgan) take your time [22:54] (Molly) B: **he bows, turning back to his wife. As they leave, the air smells heavy and metallic, and there is a light drizzle as they pass through the town square to walk to the house [22:54] (Molly) The people here seem nice [22:54] * @Morgan nods [22:54] (@Morgan) that they do [22:55] * Molly tugs her cloak around her tighter as the rain increases [22:55] (Molly) They're afraid of you I think [22:55] (@Morgan) smells like a storms coming [22:56] (@Morgan) of course they are, I've got a nasty reputation, some of it true, and the yoke of my cousin going before me [22:57] * Molly nods as there's a distant rumble [22:57] (Molly) It may take some time for them to trust you [22:57] * @Morgan nods [22:57] (@Morgan) no doubt [22:58] (Molly) Perhaps I can help that? [22:58] (@Morgan) how so? [22:59] (Molly) By being the unscary, approachable veisgrafin? [22:59] (@Morgan) thats not a bad idea... though, you may have noticed, I was approached [22:59] * Molly smiles [23:00] (Molly) I did. It is a positive step [23:00] (@Morgan) His concern for Innesbruck and his sister in particular proved stronger than his fear of me... though with any luck my admission of what I did to Edward shows if anything, I'm at least honest [23:01] (Molly) **a gust of wind opens the heavens, cascading water over the town [23:01] * Molly nods [23:01] (Molly) I thought that was rather brave [23:01] * @Morgan looks confused [23:01] (@Morgan) why? [23:03] (Molly) One question often leads to more. "Why did you hit him?". It would have been easier to lie than discuss it [23:04] * @Morgan shrugs [23:04] * Molly frowns at the rain, brushing it from her face. They're rapidly becoming soaked [23:04] (@Morgan) well, they'd have learned I'm also stubborn [23:05] * Molly smiles [23:05] (Molly) That you are [23:06] (Molly) *the fields and pasture lands turn into lightly-treed forest [23:07] (Molly) Though I prefer 'tenacious' or 'determined' [23:07] * @Morgan nods [23:07] (@Morgan) that sounds better... *he glances around at the trees* he was asking what'll happen to Innesbruck now I'm in charge of Koln... [23:08] (Molly) **he starts to hear a faint rattle to her breathing [23:08] (Molly) And you said.. ? [23:09] (@Morgan) I said its going to change... he suggests I should fire the overseer [23:10] (Molly) Great minds think alike. Why does he feel so? [23:11] (@Morgan) well, one comment in particular... "he's got a very grand house for someone who arrived with nothing" [23:11] * Molly frowns. The rattle continues [23:12] (Molly) Does he now... Interesting [23:13] (@Morgan) quite... and the taxes are crippling the place [23:13] * Molly nods [23:14] (Molly) What will you do? [23:14] (@Morgan) Find a way to lower them [23:15] * Molly breathes slowly [23:15] (Molly) That should be easy on a small scale [23:16] (@Morgan) we need to get you inside to sort out that rattle [23:17] * Molly smiles a little, but he can see a flicker of pain in her expression [23:17] (Molly) Yes, it really wouldn't do to half-undress out here [23:18] (@Morgan) No, not really [23:21] * Molly watches him sidelong [23:21] (Molly) I should imagine you've been naked in the wilderness before [23:22] * @Morgan nods slowly [23:22] * Molly laughs softly [23:22] (Molly) Fear not, I am not trying to coerce you, merely curious [23:23] (@Morgan) spend any amount of time travelling and you're almost certain to need to at some point... sometimes its necessary... sometimes, of course, its just what Lieutenants do... [23:24] * Molly looks curious [23:24] (Molly) I don't understand. Why lieutenants? [23:25] (@Morgan) I seem to recall it being an Eisen Lieutenant went running through the Torrington house completely in his altogether... and there are times in the course of a drinking game where such things are necessary [23:26] * Molly tilts her lead [23:26] (Molly) Head* [23:26] (Molly) There are games involving nakedness?! [23:26] (@Morgan) consequences, more like... [23:27] * Molly smiles enigmatically [23:28] (Molly) Nudity and consequences... Interesting. Why were they nude anyway? [23:29] (@Morgan) because running through a tavern clothed isn't much of a consequence [23:30] * Molly giggles [23:30] (Molly) I meant the lieutenant and the laird [23:31] (@Morgan) oh, them... I'm assuming the lieutenant listened to the laird, since I dont know an Eisen man stupid enough to jump into a... ring of power, anyway [23:32] (Molly) If I recall, you didnt find it very funny [23:32] * Molly grins as they enter the gates to the house [23:33] (@Morgan) Of course not [23:35] (Molly) Because they were naked, or because we ladies were looking? [23:35] (@Morgan) mostly the latter, though I wasn't entirely impressed that an Eisen man acted in such a way [23:37] * Molly giggles [23:37] (Molly) Youthful curiosity I think [23:37] * @Morgan snorts [23:40] (Molly) It was... Educational [23:40] (@Morgan) Well, I educated him on what I'd do to him if it happened again [23:40] * Molly laughs [23:40] (Molly) Stay put until someone rescues you?
