It was not always so, but in the last decade or so, as the war stole so many lives from the children of the Sudlache, so did it steal the noise and bustle of this magnificant house. Where once the halls during the early afternoon would be the working ground of servants clearing up after visiting hours, or preparing for an evenings entertainment, now they are almost all at task in the fields of those without help. This was Adalbrechts idea, a solution to the problems his people suffered. There remains a few scant servants, those too old, too young, or too infirm to work the land. It is one such woman hanging out the laundry in one of the back gardens that Morgan can see through the ornate window. Her limp is noticeable, and the strain of her labour is clear in the rests she has to take between items. The huge gardens that surround the house are similar to the inside - tidy, elegant, classically well-designed, rich colours, sumptuous fabrics, dark wood. There is little difference between how it is now, and how it was when he was a young boy, carefree, happy, and full of life. There are no changes in the four months since he was last there, except for in himself. How will they react to the news that the lady he spoke to his mother of was there to become his wife? Would they approve?
