* Molly and Morgan arrive at the dock by carriage just as the ship comes in. It is a fairly non-descript ship, but it is quite busy. As the ropes are tied off, and the sails refurled, the passengers get off one by one. As the last of the passengers disembark, David and Martha come down, leading both the horses behind them as a cabin boy starts to unload their trunks. Molly smiles to Morgan < 04Molly > They seem to have arrived safe and well < 08@Morgan > so it seems blossom < 04Molly > **leading the horses down, David and Martha talking together. They are very easily affectionate now, equals where they were not when Morgan first met them. The horses are tethered up, and Martha looks around. * Molly walks over towards her mother, keeping an appropriate distance from Morgan. Martha smiles at them, and then studies Molly. A frown passes over her face briefly, before the smile returns < 04Molly > Martha: Good afternoon, Morgan, Moll... *she looks to Morgan* I trust all is well? * @Morgan follows along, looking around < 08@Morgan > aye, it is... your voyage went well? Session Time: Sun Aug 09 00:00:00 2009 < 04Molly > Martha: *she grins, and hugs her daughter* Oh yes, most eventful! I bring news! *she lets Molly go, and her father takes his turn. David then turns to Morgan, offering his hand* * @Morgan takes his hand, shaking it firmly < 04Molly > David: Well met, Morgan. I haven't been in Carleeon for many a year < 08@Morgan > I find myself here all too often < 04Molly > I rather like it here. It will always have fond memories for me. * Molly watches Morgan quite intently, and Martha watches between the two. David lets go of Morgan's hand < 04Molly > David: What on Theah is the matter with that horse of yours? *he nods towards Xantha, who stands tall beside the smaller mare, eyes hard and watchful* < 08@Morgan > that depends what you mean... < 04Molly > David: He nearly trampled several of the grooms, and was almost agressive with them. I think had Aurora not been with him, he might well have taken a nip at one or two of them! *he laughs* * @Morgan nods < 08@Morgan > he's a horse trained for war David... though I'll confess no other has been able to ride him < 04Molly > David: I haven't found him much trouble, though when they tried to seperate the two, he nearly kicked down the walls of the stall < 08@Morgan > he seems to have taken quite a shine to Aurora < 04Molly > David *he nods* She's still a little young for breeding, but it'll come * Molly smiles at Martha < 04Molly > you have news, Mama? < 04Molly > Martha:*she nods* aye, but lets get settled with lodgings somewhere, I ache to get out of these shoes! * @Morgan looks mildly uncomfortable < 04Molly > David: *he looks to Morgan* Something wrong, young man? * Molly watches Morgan, studying every feature. < 08@Morgan > not yet... though it depends how abrasive I find the staff at the inn today < 04Molly > David: You have made arrangements already? * @Morgan nods < 04Molly > David: *he looks to Martha briefly, before looking back to Morgan* Have you further business in the dock? * @Morgan looks around, still looking for a particular flag upon a ship < 04Molly > Martha *she doesnt notice, too busy watching the expression on Molly's face. There is no sign of Holzheim's ship, though the harbour master, a tall wiry man, the same one who showed them the Rose, walks along the dock. His name springs to Morgan's mind, Sir Marcus Reynolds < 08@Morgan > if you'll excuse me a moment, I wish to speak to the harbour master < 04Molly > David: *he nods, and Molly leads them towards their coach. The cabin boy loads up the coach, and brings over the horses. < 04Molly > Sir Marcus Reynolds: *he looks up at the ship they've just come off, making notes* * @Morgan walks to the harbour master < 04Molly > Sir Marcus Reynolds: *he looks up* Good afternoon < 08@Morgan > Sir Reynolds... I wish to enquire as to whether a particular ship will be docking soon < 04Molly > Sir Marcus Reynolds: *he nods, looking Morgan up and down* You look famliar, sir... what ship are you looking for? < 08@Morgan >  Das Ewig Abendrot < 04Molly > Sir Marcus Reynolds: *he looks down at his clipboard, flicking through* Captain Holzheim is due to return on thursday ((its now sunday)) * @Morgan nods < 08@Morgan > thank you < 04Molly > Sir Marcus Reynolds: *he watches Morgan, and the name dawns on him* Ahhh The Purple Rose... now that was a sad tale < 08@Morgan > aye... still... from the ashes < 04Molly > Sir Marcus Reynolds: *he nods* Please pass on my condolences to Lady Forrester < 08@Morgan > I think perhaps you misunderstand... the Rose is being refloated < 04Molly > Sir Marcus Reynolds: *he looks surprised* I would not have thought it possible! * @Morgan allows his accent to slip slightly < 08@Morgan > I think you understimate the stoutness of Eisen ships < 04Molly > Sir Marcus Reynolds: *he smiles* Will she dock here? < 08@Morgan > at some point I expect < 04Molly > Sir Marcus Reynolds: Lady Forrester should still be in the possesion of the logs from this dock, I sent them with great haste on her request. I was not told the conclusion of the inquest *he looks annoyed about this* * @Morgan nods < 08@Morgan > Ihave my suspicions... though, since the ship was docked here fairly recently before her... accident, I'm sure that it would be just for you to be sent word of the cause < 04Molly > Sir Marcus Reynolds: That is usual, yes * @Morgan looks towards the sea < 08@Morgan > what I meant... is that despite the fact I'm sure it had nothing to do with you or your dock... I'll make sure you find out anyway... so you can take steps against those that caused it being allowed use of the docks. < 04Molly > Sir Marcus Reynolds: *he smiles* Thank you, I should appreciate that. * @Morgan nods < 08@Morgan > if you'd excuse me, I must get back to the inn < 04Molly > Sir Marcus Reynolds: *he bows slightly* Good day, my Lord * @Morgan inclines his head then walks back to the coach * Molly sits in the coach with her parents. Martha and David sit with their backs to the driver, and Molly in the corner across from them. Martha is telling Molly all about the journey excitedly, getting more and more animated. David sits close to her, holding her hand. * @Morgan climbs inside, sitting down < 04Molly > Martha: *she ceases talking long enough to watch the two of them, before rturning to her account of the antics of Xantha and the grooms, and James' children, and the sailors. This chatter takes them the short trip to the coach < 04Molly > Martha: But some of the songs those sailor's sing! Well, Moll, it's enough to turn the air blue! * Molly laughs, and looks to Morgan < 04Molly > I have heard that about sailing men... * @Morgan flushes slightly < 04Molly > Martha: *she looks out of the window* I have never been to Carleon before. What is this Tavern like, Morgan? < 08@Morgan > slightly more... sensible than most < 08@Morgan > if frequented and staffed by idiots < 04Molly > David: Are rooms booked already? < 08@Morgan > indeed < 04Molly > David: I see < 08@Morgan > we thought you'd appreciate having somewhere already set aside to get changed... < 04Molly > David: *he nods* That makes sense. I am sure you have given much thought to the matter < 08@Morgan > experience, rather < 04Molly > David: *he nods* You must have travelled a great deal < 08@Morgan > aye, I have < 04Molly > **they become quiet, and the last stretch passes. They get out of the coach at the Tavern, and a porter comes to take their things. A stable hand comes over to Morgan < 04Molly > Stable hand: Shall I take the horses, my Lord? * @Morgan shakes his head < 08@Morgan > no, because I dont dislike you... I'll see to them < 04Molly > Stable hand: *he nods, and shows Morgan in the direction of the stables. The others go inside* * @Morgan leads the horses into the stables, talking to Xantha in Eisen < 04Molly > **a little time passes. The three are upstairs. * @Morgan goes into the parlour * Molly stands by the mantlepiece, looking at the clock. David looks out of the window, and Martha sits watching Molly. There is tea and coffee on the table, along with pastries and biscuits. Molly looks frustrated. < 04Molly > No Mama, nothing is the matter, do not nag me * @Morgan coughs slightly < 08@Morgan > there is a problem? < 04Molly > Martha: *she sighs, and looks to Morgan* I think Molly seems out of sorts. * Molly looks to Morgan < 04Molly > I am fine. Would you like some tea, or coffee? < 08@Morgan > tea, please... there's only a few places here that dont do injustice to coffee, and this inn is not one of them * Molly nods, and gets him some tea. She brings it to him, handing it over. She looks at him, eyes intense, and then takes a seat with her own tea in an armchair by the fire. David sits beside his wife. < 04Molly > Are the horses well? < 08@Morgan > Xantha doesn't like sea travel particularly... probably because nothing happens when it ends now * Molly nods < 04Molly > I am not sure I shall like sea travel without being in charge of a ship * @Morgan shrugs < 08@Morgan > you get used to it < 04Molly > Martha: *her eyes light up* Now, this is the news I was wanting to tell you! < 08@Morgan > at least you wont have the dubious pleasure of bunking down with thirty other men * Molly blushes very hard, and looks away < 04Molly > David: I'd rather hope not! < 04Molly > Ummm... what were you wanting to say, mama? < 04Molly > Martha: *she smiles at David* Well, it seems you are to have a suitable dowry after all! * Molly looks to Morgan, puzzled < 04Molly > Go on, Mama... < 04Molly > Martha: *she sits forward, excited* Well, on the dock, some of the salavagers you hired to salavge your ship told your father that they are going to refloat her! And she'll be sailable once more! Isn't that wonderful! You shall have that wonderful ship to take as your dowry now! * Molly looks to Morgan once more, uncomfortable < 04Molly > I... that will not be possible mama < 04Molly > David: Why, little Moll? *he looks troubled* < 04Molly > I no longer own her * Molly looks to the floor < 04Molly > David: *he looks annoyed* what on Theah possesed you to do such a thing?! < 04Molly > Martha: *she looks to Morgan* Did you know about this? < 08@Morgan > I did * Molly doesn't look up < 04Molly > It was my choice to make < 04Molly > Martha: That would have been a very good dowry Moll. No-one would have gossiped that this marriage may have been caused by you forcing Morgan's hand if the ship was involved! * Molly looks up, eyes pained. She looks from Martha to Morgan < 04Molly > People will truly say such things? < 08@Morgan > once, perhaps < 04Molly > Martha: Moll, be sensible. Low gentry marrying in to a high noble family... there is always going to be people who suspect that Morgan had to offer for you because your honour came in to question * Molly sips her tea, studying the pattern of the carpet < 04Molly > I have already relinquished ownership of the Rose < 04Molly > David: *he looks to Morgan* What do you think of all this? < 08@Morgan > I think it was her choice to make and she made it... < 04Molly > David: and the assumptions that will be made? < 08@Morgan > .me sips his tea * Molly looks up to her father < 04Molly > Papa, the sort of people who would think such a thing of me will think it regardless of the ship... I am not well-liked in certain circles < 04Molly > David: *he sits back slightly, trying not to belie his anger at it, though the slightly pained look on Marthas face reveals how much he is squeezing her hand < 04Molly > Martha: Moll, what have you done with the ship? * Molly looks to her mother. Where she had initially seemed confident in her choice, her parents disapproval has visibly started to trouble her < 04Molly > I... I...I signed it over to Morgan with the Justice of the Peace in Tawstock < 04Molly > **Both parents look to each other, before looking to Morgan. David speaks* And you had no idea of this? < 08@Morgan > not until she gave me the documents, no < 04Molly > Martha: The Justice of the Peace should have talked sense in to her... * Molly studies her cup, not trusting herself to speak. David and Martha continue to watch Morgan. It is clear that they expect him to have more sense and be more reasonable than their daughter * @Morgan places his cup very carefully on the nearest sideboard * Molly watches him < 08@Morgan > you have an issue... spit it out < 04Molly > Martha: I can not understand why she would do such a careless thing < 08@Morgan > one way or another there would be questions... if she'd kept it until we married... there'd be question over whether I'd married her to get her ship * Molly looks up, voice quiet < 04Molly > That to me would be far worse than my morals being questioned, mama. There are lots of reasons for my choice. *she looks to Morgan as if unsure that she should continue. Her parents disapproval has obviously shaken her* * @Morgan gives the slightest of nods * Molly takes a deep breath < 04Molly > Firstly, I wanted Morgan to see that I come to him completely willingly, and that I want him to have the Rose rather than him take it within the marriage laws... < 04Molly > *both parents nod* < 04Molly > Secondly, people will suspect that I have tricked him to marry me for the benefits such a match will give me financially and in status. By giving up the Rose, it shows I am not interested in building my own holdings from such * Molly looks to Morgan, trying to see his reaction * @Morgan 's face remains calm < 04Molly > Thirdly, By not holding on to the ship, it shows that I completely trust in Morgan to provide for me in the future < 04Molly > and lastly, it shows that I know he wants to wed me because... for reasons other than getting the Rose. By giving over the Rose, it proves that I trust him to still wed me, even though he owns the only thing that could recommend me to a noble husband. * Molly looks up at him < 04Molly > Verstehen Sie, liebes herz? < 08@Morgan > Ich tue liebling * Molly seems emboldened by his support, and looks to her parents < 04Molly > David: I suppose that is reason enough < 04Molly > I rather thought so. It was to be Morgan's soon regardless, and those with kindly dispositions will still see that I brought the Rose to the match, and increased the Koertig family standing < 04Molly > Martha: *she nods* I can certainly understand you wanting people to realise yours was a match for love < 04Molly > David: *he smiles* So, young man, how does it feel to own the greatest ship to come out of Eisen? * Molly sips her tea, looking somewhat relieved < 08@Morgan > it'll feel all the better when she can sail under her own sails again... < 04Molly > David: they were certainly making progress on that when we left * @Morgan nods < 08@Morgan > I'm giving some thought to starting a business with it... and getting another ship commissioned < 04Molly > Martha: Another?! * @Morgan nods, picking up his tea < 04Molly > David: What sort of business? < 08@Morgan > that I've no decided on yet... much as I'd like to start some sort of freight service... thats not what I'm bred for < 04Molly > Martha: *she looks to Molly, then Morgan* Do you have no fears for it being sunk again? * Molly looks to Morgan then, having not really thought of this < 08@Morgan > no... the investigation into the cause will be completed before long and steps can be taken to prevent it happening again < 04Molly > David: And will you run it out of Tawstock...or? < 08@Morgan > it is undecided < 04Molly > Martha: *she looks at Molly then Morgan* You'll not need to decide just yet... < 04Molly > **there is a knock at the door * @Morgan opens the door < 04Molly > **The young lad stands there < 08@Morgan > how much are you paid a day, lad? < 04Molly > About 20 cents, my Lord * @Morgan nods and fishes in his pocket < 08@Morgan > you like working here? < 04Molly > *he looks unsure, but remembers what he has been taught* Yes, my Lord, it is a good, professional tavern * @Morgan nods < 08@Morgan > and since we're not being listened to... you like working here? < 04Molly > *he looks at the floor* I have no choice. My parents died when I was eight, and my aunt couldn't care for me. She left me here < 08@Morgan > charming * @Morgan pulls his hand out of his pocket and hands the lad a guilder < 08@Morgan > go find somewhere unobtrusive for the day < 04Molly > *he takes it with a bow* Thank you, my Lord < 08@Morgan > go on with you * @Morgan watches the boy leave and closes the door * Molly watches Morgan closely, but her face is serious < 04Molly > Martha: *she watches her daughter and future son-in-law, looking back and forth between the two, frowning* < 04Molly > David: Is all well? < 08@Morgan > I'd say so * Molly spots Martha watching her, and looks to the floor. 'Who was it, dear heart?' < 08@Morgan > the kitchen lad * Molly smiles < 04Molly > I wondered what time dinner would be < 04Molly > David: Morgan, when do we set sail once more? < 08@Morgan > it depends... if we sail on the ship I'd wished to... Friday * Molly stands and gets her bag. She goes over to the table, and takes things out. David pours more tea, and then goes to the window.* < 04Molly > Martha: Friday will leave us some time for sight-seeing * @Morgan sips his tea before looking at Martha < 08@Morgan > you have anywhere particular you wish to visit? < 04Molly > Martha: I would like to look at the shops, and see the Palace * @Morgan nods < 08@Morgan > an impressive sort of place * Molly unfolds parchment, and her quill scratches on it as she writes < 04Molly > Martha: I saw drawings, where I used to work. It must be huge, far bigger than the Torrington House? < 08@Morgan > I'd say so < 08@Morgan > I suppose its somewhat larger than the drachen cathedral, also < 04Molly > Martha: Molly has told me of it, it sounds lovely. She showed me her painting of it * @Morgan nods < 08@Morgan > I think perhaps you'll all be surprised at  die Dauerhaftigkeit * Molly stands, and goes to the mantlepiece, taking up a candle, and returning to the table < 04Molly > Martha: That is your parent's house? < 08@Morgan > aye < 04Molly > Martha: It is big then? * @Morgan nods < 08@Morgan > moderately < 04Molly > Martha: What is it like? < 08@Morgan > Eisen < 04Molly > Martha: Do you like it there? < 08@Morgan > yes and no... pbviously my childhood was spent there < 04Molly > Martha: *she smiles* and someday it will be your house? < 08@Morgan > someday, aye... when I have to take over responsibility < 04Molly > Martha: *she looks at the fire* You will both live in Eisen then. * Molly stands, and rings the bell pull < 08@Morgan > I could not leave it to my brother... it is my duty to take up my fathers responsibilities < 04Molly > Martha *nods, speaking quiely* and hers to be by your side * Molly watches them whilst she waits for a servant < 08@Morgan > aye < 04Molly > I shall send this letter and ask for dinner to be prepared < 04Molly > Martha *she looks up* who are you writing to, Moll? < 04Molly > Just Evie, Mama, she has opened a shop here in Carleon and I am going to visit her on tuesday * Molly looks at Morgan a moment < 04Molly > I thought we might meet with she and Ayden on wednesday evening? * @Morgan onds < 08@Morgan > as you wish < 04Molly > Martha *she smiles* Is Ayden the man you told me about? * Molly nods. She proceeds to tell her mother all she knows about Ayden, with the promise of bringing more news on tuesday. The servant takes the letter, and has dinner sent up. They talk around the table regarding the length of the journey, and Carleon itself. If he is paying attention, Molly watches him a great deal during dinner, eyes intense but expression carefully neutral. Martha watches this with a frown. Before long, the night has drawn round, and bed time comes. The fire is extinguished, and Molly takes a candle to take to her room. Martha smiles, bidding them both goodnight, and goes in to their room < 04Molly > Before long, the night has drawn round, and bed time comes. The fire is extinguished, and Molly takes a candle to take to her room. Martha smiles, bidding them both goodnight, and goes in to their room < 04Molly > David watches from the door frame, and Molly smiles at Morgan. 'Es ist wie mit einem Aufseher!' ((it is like having a warden!)) * @Morgan laughs < 08@Morgan > sleep well blossom < 04Molly > Goodnight, dear heart * Molly goes into her room shutting the door, and David goes in to his room.
