Molly:*Molly looks up at the Solemn Wind, eyes serious, before turning to Morgan* Can I speak with you a moment? Morgan: Of course my lady Molly: *She moves out of Evie's earshot, but close enough to keep an eye on the ship, and Evie herself* I have a feeling that this issue is going to take a great deal of diplomacy and manipulation to fix.. Morgan:Quite possibly. I cannot say I am pleased to be all but forced to make it Molly: *She nods* I would rather you had not needed to make the apology, particularly when it is based on the sensibilities of a 'highly strung' noble, as the Lieutenant referred to him... Morgan: Needs must. Though she has let her loose jaw cause strife for the last time Molly:Truly, if this can not be remedied, her lack of propriety may be the end of my ownership of the Rose. I don't think she comprehends the gravity of the situation. Morgan: he will not renege on his promise, molly. he will not be allowed Molly:*She smiles at him* Are noble politics always this taxing? This will be the second time today I have had to return to the wind to smooth over the fragile egos of those 'above' me... Morgan: its only ever this complex when the nobles in question are highly strung. certainly i've never had this issue with lady torrington, even when reprimanding her for a lack of care Molly:I confess, I always believed Charles Warwick to be the exception, but it appears that he is an accurate example of the behaviours of nobility. Cetainly the Colonel and Rebecca have both done nothing to encourage me to wish to stay as a member of high society... Morgan:Warwick was selfish and capricious... kai and rebecca are simply childish in my opinion. there are those born into said 'high society' that are kind people... lady torrington for example. Molly:*She smiles* I used to believe Lord Jaeger fit in to that, though I am starting to wonder how quickly he will change to fit his new company... He has already behaved in ways I did not expect... Molly: I dearly hope that I meet some more of the kind ones. I have spent far too much time away from my work courting the feelings of others... Morgan: i'm hoping tbat kai comes to his senses before long. i doubt he'd enjoy being put in his place by a household servant Molly: I would say that to do so would only increase the problems, but I would never dream of giving you orders.. not including within your capacity as my quatermaster, of course *she smiles* Morgan: I think its about time the man learned some humility. i grow weary of his churlish behaviour. that said, i wonder if i am not at fault, since i should not have tolerated such behaviour from eiblinn in the first place Molly: *she looks at him intently for a moment* On a personal level, or on a work level? Morgan: Both i suppose... it was i allowed her to be overly familiar with someone that is of higher standing. Molly: *she nods* Once I had got... Once she and I were friends, I ought to have intervened and dissuaded her ways. It is not impossible for a poor girl to integrate herself in to noble society, but it has to be done so slowly, so carefully... I was prepared for such because of my father's high ambitions, Evie was not. Morgan: No, eiblinn is too brash... her mouth seems to start before her brain is engaged Molly: In many ways, the estate has always had a blurring of groups of society, with nobles and commoners dining and socialising together, but then given the things that have come to pass there, I think that is understandable... *she sighs softly, eyes sad* Perhaps Evie's leaving is in her best interest... Morgan: it might be best for us all. though i dislike jaeger, we would not have fallen out proper if eiblinn were not around Molly: I shall be sorry to see her go, for it will make my world a little lonelier. Evie and I did not always get on so well, but since we have been friends, she has come to mean a great deal to me. Morgan: I know, but she is hellbent on leaving and, given the flighty disposition of some, its probably best she leave before someones temper runs out and i have to run someone through Molly: I agree... My role as Schiffseignerin has to, for a little while at least, come above my role as a friend, and she has made that far harder in the last few days with her behaviour than I can really manage. Morgan: indeed. unfortunately we must make amends for her behaviour... though... *he looks thoughtful*you should not apologise. she is not your staff Molly: She is my friend, and a guest upon the Rose. I was present, and should have admonished her for it, yet I did not. Regardless of whether the apology is deserved, I need his forgiveness and goodwill far more than I need my pride. Morgan: let me speak with him first. you should not need apologise, and i will try to make him see that Molly: *She looks at him a little unsure* Is that your advice as my employer, my quatermaster, and friend? Morgan: It is. i shall make him see that his issue is with me. if you wish to apologise after that, fine, but you should do it as a friend and not because you ought. Molly: *she nods and smiles, looking at him a moment before looking around* This has been an unusual day... Morgan: Has it? seems fairly normal to me... apart from decisions i am near making Molly: *she tilts her head, looking highly intrigued. she speaks even more quietly* Now you have aroused my curiosity.... Morgan: Perhaps I have explained myself poorly… *he looks at the sky a moment* I apologise as her employer, because I should… and make it abundantly clear that is my responsibility and mine alone to make amends… then, if you wish to, you _could_ apologise as a gesture of goodwill to him since, despite the fact she has no tie to you or the Rose, you felt that it would be the right thing to do, to assure him that, even though it is not needed for you to apologise, his taking offense did worry you grievously. Molly: *She looks at the floor a moment, cheeks flushed slightly* Oh, yes I see. It was a misunderstanding on my part. *she smiles* That sounds like a sensible plan, and I am happy to follow your lead. Morgan: It seems to me that it would be wise to show him that, although you’ve no compulsion to apologise, you wish to in the name of friendship… I suspect that would pander to his sensibilities. Molly: *she nods* Hopefully he will be so flattered and manipulated by my charms in doing so that the issue will be quickly resolved. Morgan:We can hope. I’d much rather he holds a grudge to me than to you… especially when you’ve done nothing to deserve it Molly: *she sighs* I've found that so far, it matters little if blame is deserved or not, one can still end up the target of such. Hopefully he will see that it would be dishonourable to back out on his word to a lady based on the behaviour of one of her acquaintances. Morgan: He’ll see alright Molly: *she looks at him intently* I understand... But hopefully you will not have to use the full arsenal you have available to you to see this thing resolved... certainly not on the Rose's behalf... Morgan: It is not on behalf of the rose… I would do it because you deserve, for once, to not have to sacrifice or humiliate yourself for others’ selfish whims. Molly: *she smiles softly* Thank you, I greatly appreciate it. And though it has not been an unusual day for you, it has for me... I've boarded my own ship for the first time, been to a coffee shop for the first time, been... ummm... apologised to Lady Rebecca, discovered one of my best friends intends to leave and now back here to apologise to Colonel Kai. Many of those things are unpleasant, and interfere with the tasks I intended for today.
